Reviews for Zahniser's Yachting Center
Always a great stay, 2017-08-08
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (220)

This classic marina never disappoints. Everything is first class. The facilities are exceptionally well maintained. The restaurant serves delicious meals. The community has so much to offer with one of the best maritime museums on the east coast. Jim Sharkey's team on the docks is among the best in the business. They give excellent, succinct instructions when docking. They anticipate. They are professional. Time after time, Zahniser's always impresses.

Strong 4-stars, verging on 5 . . ., 2017-07-26
Captain: , Coles Point, VA (788)

My visit was July 24-25. From every telephone contact to face-to-face experiences, Zahniser's was a treat! ALL of the people were simply wonderful. Our experience docking was made all the better by the greeting we received there. My visit at the office to register and pay was pleasant. My departure was equally warm with sincere wishes for a speedy return. The water depth was excellent at my slip, and the views of sunset were intensely beautiful. Power and water at the slip were adequate. Good WiFi coverage. The facilities are in good repair, including the bath house/restrooms. So, what prevents a 5-star? Relative lack of green space, fixed instead of floating docks and that's about it. Also, it's not the closest location to the main drag/boardwalk in town, but the new sidewalks made the trek pleasant.

You will be pleased with how you are treated here . . . I will be back, as they have earned my business for repeat visits.

Great Serivce, 2017-07-02
Captain: , Rock Hall (50)

Excellent service we intentionally only planned to stay one day here but on departing our raw water pump went. Forcing us to return thanks to Jim Sharkey (parts manager) we could get the part the next day. In replacing to the pump some internal damage to the pump drive gear was noticed. I asked Jim if he knew of this happening on other boats with similar engines. He did not but he took the time to dig into it and to get me an answer even though I was only a transient he contacted me latter the next week with what he found out. Thanks, Great service.

Super clean - super nice, 2017-06-21
Captain: , Charleston, SC (250)

From the very capable and very friendly dock hands to the extremely clean and manicured grounds, this is one nice marina. Easy walk to great restaurants, West Marine, package store, etc. A stop here is worth doing.

Beautiful marina, great folks, 2017-06-15
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (400)

(Early May 2017) Came into Solomons Island, Back Creek, expecting to anchor at one of the four anchorage spots shown on Active Captain. See comments on the designated anchor locations and hazard. Decided best action was to grab a mooring ball in the Zahnisers Yachting Center field and glad I did. Back Creek is a busy, marina packed, heavily traveled waterway by watermen, sport fishermen, and recreational sailors of all types. Zahnisers is a clean, very well-maintained marina with great facilities. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I did not need any done, but several people told me that Zahnisers had a great reputation for quality work and could do just about anything a cruiser could require, and I believe it. During our return trip heading south, we again stopped at Zahnisers, but this time went pierside, and where two dockhands met us to help get us tied up in short order, WOW, just great. And, they have a shuttle van for making grocery and hardware store runs. No doubt, we will stop at Zahnisers again in the future.

5 Star Marina, 2017-06-07
Captain: , Haverstraw, NY (111)

We picked up a mooring ball here in late May. Really fabulous service. Beautiful well-kept grounds..swimming pool with deck and food and drinks..wonderful bathhouse with individual private bathrooms with showers..really nice.!! laundry room, restaurant, and walking distance to everything.
I was very impressed with the dock hands.. one in particular..but i forgot his name. He was so professional, polite and really knew how to dock a sailboat in 20kn gusts. We wanted to pumpout and get freshwater on our way out and he went above and beyond helping us out. This is a class get a lot for your 40$ mooring fee.

First Rate, 2017-05-28
Captain: , Camden, Maine (100)

One of the best marinas on our way home to Maine from Florida. Outstanding dock crew, secure, and friendly. Drydock restaurant on site is great. Jim Sharkey, the marina manager, could not have been more accomdaing. Highly reccomended in all respects.

Great stay, 2017-05-22
Captain: , Grass Valley, CA (310)

This is a great place, nice and easy access. The walk through the island is just beautiful. Nice choice of restaurants and its Maryland crab country!

Came in on pool opening day, live music, food and drinks. The bath facilities were close to the T-Head on J-Dock, do get a bit of water noise slapping on the hull from all the boats passing in and out (they don't do idle). Internet was great, the 5G had 30MB, 2G was a bit overused.

Staff was very friendly and very helpful when we docked.

Nice Friendly Marina, 2017-05-05
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

We docked on a T and it was fine. These are fixed wooden docks and could use some updating. Mostly sailboats here but our power boat was welcomed! Very friendly and helpful staff. New private bath suites are great, and laundry very convenient. Walking distance to the boardwalk. A lovely stroll to find several options for a seafood dinner. Pool area looked nice but was not open yet for the season.
April 2017
still a great stop and friendly helpful staff. property well maintained and clean boat yard. Relaxing green space. Town good for biking to dining , boardwalk, ice cream, and great seafood

Friendly , efficient and accomodating staff, 2017-04-22
Captain: , Dronten, NL (140)

We spent one night on a mooring ball and had access to all the superb amenities . The marina offers a courtesy ride to the nearby grocery, liquor store and WestMarine. Downtown is nice to walk to on a newly paved pedestrian trail. And Terry, the dockmaster, did her very best to make our short stay easy and enjoyable.

Update: very supportive, 2017-01-10
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1342)

Update 1/10/2016

We had some boat issues on a delivery. Zanhiser's staff accommodated us efficiently In the depths of winter we got Chuck on board immediately who helped us work through a number of problems, some icing related, some air entrained in a fuel transfer system, and a couple of odds and ends. Chuck was efficient, knowledgable, careful of the boat, and fiercely competent. Many thanks to Chuck, service manager Craig, and dockmaster Terry for their help.

Still not impressed with the line handling - just too many hitches which makes getting off the dock, especially with icing, a bigger chore than it needs to be.

Regardless Zanhiser's will be my preferred stop in Solomon's if I'm not anchoring in the head of Back Creek.

Original review:

The facility and staff are nice and enthusiastic. Unfortunately the dockhands are--like most--not that good. We specifically asked for plenty of slack in bow and stern lines to allow room for fenders and fender boards (the pilings stand well clear of the docks so rigging fenders early, particularly on the tee-heads, is asking for trouble). Lines were secured based on the "if you can't tie a knot, tie a lot" school. The intended support of dock hands really didn't help at all.

No signage was apparent from the creek for which dock was which. Make sure you have the dock diagram from the marina website available or you will be lost.

Bathrooms are clean if somewhat dark.

WiFi repeaters are apparent through the facility but I could not get a decent connection and used my cellular data plan instead.

Dry Dock Restaurant is excellent.

Really enjoyed our stay (again), 2017-01-08
Captain: , Seaford, VA (975)

Update 9/14/2016 Another stay at ZYC. Love the pool and free bikes. Easy walk or bike to down town, don't miss the Orange Crush drinks at the Tiki Bar. We were disappointed that the pool closes earlier in the season than some others in the area.

9/2014 update: Stayed here twice this month on the way to Baltimore and back. I can't say enough nice things about Terry and her staff.

9/4/2013 update: Another great stay. As any boat owner knows, sometimes things break. It's nice to be at a real marina with a real service department when that happens. We took advantage of the pool, free bikes, laundry, etc. Can't wait to come back next year.

Had a great time last fall. Owner decided to keep the pool open another week since an offshore hurricane washed out the planned closing festivities a week earlier. Very helpful staff. Free bikes enabled touring and trips to Food Lion for more beer and Oreo cookies.
Calvert Marine Museum was excellent, don't miss it. I loved just walking around and looking at all the boats and watching the activity of a working boat yard.

Quality & Professional, 2016-10-16
Captain: , Marion, MA (472)

Stayed to wait out weather on the dock and anchored off. Had some mechanical engine work done, quickly and reasonably. Will come back.

dealth by small cuts, 2016-10-14
Captain: , Salem Ma (790)

I was anchored out and was planning on spending money here. i was Ok with the $3 dinghy landing fee, the $3 ea shower fee, even the $1.50/bag trash fee. But there is no fee that allows you to use the coin operated laundry machines (that they make money on). Really now, I wasn't trying to get something free as I was going pay for the machines. We were going to eat in the resturant but passed after carrying the dirty laundry back to the boat.

A good solid facility (again), 2016-10-12
Captain: , PooleUK (973)

After a two year absence it was great to return here, all is much the same, and all of it good!
Thank you all for your efforts.

This was our second time at Solomons, and I elected to try this marina after our issue with the "Smart Y" working at our last stop here. It has all the ingredients for a great facility, but I prefered the marina just to the north, although I am unable to explain quite why.

First Time - Great Stay, 2016-10-12
Captain: , West River (298)

This was our first time to Zahniser%u2019s. The dockhand, Jason, was spot-on with docking directions and excellent at securing the boat, even in the rain. During our two night stay, we observed Jason on the dock numerous times checking lines, which was important with the gusty weather. It was nice to have several WiFi connections to choose from. We ate dinner (Saturday night) and brunch (Sunday morning) at the Dry Dock restaurant on-site. For the most part good meals, only notable downside was too much salad dressing on the Caesar Salad for dinner and nearly none for brunch (lesson learned, order on the side). We now know why this is a 1st Choice marina, looking forward to a stay in the future.

Great marina, 2016-10-12
Captain: , Howell, NJ (130)

Stayed here 6 days waiting for hurricane Matthew to pass. The facilities are top notch, clean bathrooms, washer and dryers in good condition. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Shuttle availalbe to take you to grocery store is a plus. There are moorings $30-40 per night, good deal. We were there with a dozen other boats waiting out Matthew, the marina set up a place for us to get together for drinks and appetizers. Will return.

Has it ALL! Pool, pool bar, restaurant, service, & GM with heart of GOLD!, 2016-08-18
Captain: , Cherry Hill (378)

We come here every visit to the Chesapeake and each time, they exceed expectations but THIS TIME they really went over and above for me.

First things first. Terri who took my reservation was so thorough, efficient and pleasant (A+ customer service) that I could hardly believe it. Two days later, she even came out to supervise the young dock hand as he tied me up. I also needed service and the tech was on my boat in minutes.

What came next was inspiring to say the least. After our first night, I woke up the next morning with a medical emergency and had to visit the ER. Obviously I had no car for my wife to take me (I was in intense pain-kidney stone!). Mr. Sharkey, the General Manager, could not spare the company van. So without any hesitation whatsoever, he hands my wife the keys to his personal car and gives us directions to the nearest hospital 30 minutes away!! Not knowing if I would need to stay overnight, he said to not worry about that, that he would walk home if he had to. Let me state too, that neither me nor my wife had never met Mr. Sharkey during our prior visits. Now that I have, I know why the marina is so successful and why the people who work there are always so pleasant, putting the customer first.

I hope that by writing this, people don't begin asking or even hinting that Mr. Sharkey lend them his personal auto for various purposes. I write about what he did for me in detail to just drive home the point as to how compassionate, kind, helpful, trusting and SOLUTION oriented this man is.

Thank you Jim, Terri & the Zhanisers team!

Nice Marina, 2016-07-12
Captain: , Kent Island Maryland (110)

Awesome pool with bar and grill on site. Docks good and dock hands very experienced. No fuel but that's available just down the creek. A short walk to town and bars/restaurants.

Nice Facilities, 2016-07-11
Captain: , Timonium (90)

On our Baycation, we stopped in Zahniser's for an evening. The pool was refreshing, the bathroom facilities were clean, the docks were in good shape and the dock hands were seasoned - in another words, they knw what they were doing. Solomon's is a fun port with plenty of night life and dining opportunities. We plan on returning.

If you need a marine survey ..., 2016-07-09
Captain: , Dahlgren (50)

If you end up at Solomons and need a survey, you won't do better than MIKE PREVITI at Zahniser's. I had some engine repair work done by the Zahniser's people and was quite satisfied.

I've had three boats surveyed, the last two, a Northern 25 and a Catalina 36, were surveyed by Mike. If I were to buy another boat, I'd want Mike to check that one out, too. Here's why:
He is methodical. Neither seller/broker wanted Mike to do the survey. They both felt that he was too "picky." As a buyer that translated into thorough - just what I wanted. As it turned out, both seller/brokers were very impressed with Mike and the excellent work that he did.
He is knowledgeable. He owned a boatyard for years and knows his subject.
He is pleasant. He was always generous with his time, answering my many questions graciously, never making me feel as though I were a nuisance.
He's not afraid to go up the mast. On both boats, he surveyed the standing rigging, a service not offered by every surveyor.
He sees the job done all the way through. I had the fluids checked on the Catalina. When the lab sent back a negative, but incomprehensible, oil report, Mike was suspicious of their results. He drove 35 miles to the boat on a Saturday morning, took additional samples, overnighted them to the lab, then stayed after the lab to put our job in front of the line - which they were willing to do for an additional fee. He refused to let me reimburse him for any of it. Perhaps the lab stepped up after admitting their mistake.
His service is a good value. Based on his survey, I was able to bargain for a reduced price, equivalent to about 50% more than what I paid him. (It could have been more, but I really like the boat and had trouble being hard-nosed.)

One of the Best, 2016-07-07
Captain: , Middle River, MD (354)

I'm always a little nervous entering a slip away from home when single handing my 31' sailboat. The dock hand they sent out was very experienced and gave me excellent advice and directions. The entire facility is very nicely maintained and run. The check in was easy and very well organized with a nice packet of info. The restaurant is a little pricey but the food was excellent. The wifi worked well. They were very accommodating in letting me come in the day before my reservation to pick up (and drop off) some friends for a day sail. I was also early for my reservation and that was no problem since they had a slip available. Overall, a great experience.

GREAT Pumpout, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Baltimore (529)

We were looking for a pumpout in the area. There is a free pumpout near but the pier slip looked too small for us, so we went around to Zahniser's. Their pumpout is on a T-Head, with very easy access. We were greeted by the Dockmaster and she advised us the system could take 60 gallons at a time but was very fast and quick to recycle. We were surprised how fast the system sucked our tank empty. Our bow is 10' off the waterline so many pumpouts do not have the suction. Zahniser's is one othe best we have encountered.

A Well-deserved First Choice Marina, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (480)

No sense in repeating all the positive comments. Simply among the best of dozens of marinas we've patronized since casting off in early April. Every staff member we encountered was smiling.

Great dockage, 2016-05-24
Captain: , Oriental, NC (20)

Terry the dockmaster does an amazing job. She is helpful and knows what she is doing. We stayed for a couple of days heading north and stopped back on our way south towards home. We love the easy access and of course the staff are right there if you need them. Highly recommend this marina. The food at the Dry Dock Restaurant and Bar is fantastic as well.

Great marina and facilty, 2016-05-20
Captain: , Blanco, TX (520)

Staff here was exceptional (especially Terry) with easy access to the marina. All areas were maintained top-notch. We had some plumbing issues and within an hour had someone from the marina (full service) resolve our problem and was reasonably priced, especially for such short notice.

Best Marina Staff we have ever met, 2016-05-07
Captain: , Chattanooga (220)

A great facility with a superb staff. We were scheduled to arrive after hours so they had left a big "reserved" sign on our slip with our boat name in big letters. This included a waterproof packet with all the documents we would need to enjoy the Marina. The shower and laundry facilities were spotless and obviously designed someone who has traveled by boat. The free bicycles were awesome and we rode to the liquor store and West Marine .5 miles away. The Calvert Museum with tour of the Drum Point Lighthouse was a highlight of our time in the Chesapeake. These people know how to run a Marina. We will be back for sure!

Excellent in all respects., 2016-05-02
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (160)

Our third time here. Outstanding marina in all respects! Helpful, courteous, friendly staff. Clean, private restrooms & showers. Rides to stores and courtesy bicycles. Good restaurant here and good restaurants nearby. Have not needed repairs, but all services are available. Will be back!

Great facility, 2016-04-03
Captain: , Herndon, VA (42)

We spent a weekend in Solomons on our 30' and had a great time. On approach, guidance into the slip assignment was excellent. Dockhands were helpful on arrival. Fixed docks were in pretty good shape, and tidal change was minimal during our stay. We used the courtesy bicycles and had a great time exploring the entire town. Excellent pump out facility, but fuel was more expensive than nearby Calvert Marina during our stay. They have extensive shower facilities which were readily available during our stay. We will definitely return.

Great marina!, 2015-11-21
Captain: , Hampton, Virginia (289)

We stayed here on November 3rd on our way down the Bay to Virginia Beach. Access is very easy and good water all the way in. The dock and marina staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. This is a fixed dock marina, but the tide in the area is relatively minor - typically less than 2 feet. There are a number of restaurants within distance, but the restaurant at the marina, Dry Dock, is excellent and we highly recommend it. The bath and shower facilities were great. The town is a short walk from the marina and has a variety of shops, restaurants, and places to check out. The marina offers free bikes to use and has a small ships store with the essentials. I would have given it five stars if the docks were in a little better condition and if they had been better lighted. I would definitely recommend staying here. Great marina overall!

Excellent facilities, great location, supervise your work, 2015-11-03
Captain: , Alameda (667)

This is a very good marina with excellent facilities, a good chandlery, walking distance to West Marine and other stores and restaurants. Excellent place to stay. Good water and power. Solid repair facilities for most everything.

Zahniser's did several moderate jobs on the boat including replacing some seacocks, cutting out and replacing a holding tank, maintenance of roller furlers and some engine maintenance work.

Most of the work was done well, but some needed rework. The new seacocks leaked necessitating a quick haul to rework them. Removing the old corroded holding tank went very well, but discussions on how to place the new one were slanted towards making the work easier and saving some time. In the end, it probably would have not been a lot more time to do the installation the way that was originally desired, which would have given more space in a crowded engine room and eliminated some storage problems we ended up with afterwards. Where would could have gained 2-3" of space, we lost 1/2" which made storage boxes not fit. We had planned to replace all of the hoses around the tank, but the tank got put in before all of the old hoses were replaced. The old hoses were in good shape, so this probably won't be an issue, but it likely would have been better to have replaced the 17 year old hoses with new. This was another discussion where the Zahniser's staff were probably trying to help save money, but perhaps excessively so.

The wood work around the tank was done quickly and looks great, but it was not completely thought through in terms of future usability and the space requirements for the watermaker that sits around the tank. Hole cut-outs were made for hoses in a solid top which will occasionally need to be removed. These bits and pieces caused rework including cutting slots for the hoses instead of holes, removing some fiddle, etc. After the hoses were done, we had to rework some of the routing to fix a pinched vent hose and move some hoses that had been put back in different routes and would interfere with the watermaker. All of the work was done well and functional, but it simply wasn't well thought through ahead of time - a lot of that being our fault in not being extremely specific.

Basically, the quality of the work is excellent, and where there is a problem they quickly and happily work to fix it. The cosmetics of the work are very good. A boat next to us had some fiberglass and gel coat work done that looked superb. But for anything complex or specific, sit down and think through everything ahead of time, make a checklist and diagrams and provide those details to the staff. I think had we really sat down and provided a plan rather than having multiple quick discussions, we would have been finished faster and been happier.

Management response:
Captain Henry,

We appreciate the opportunity to help ready “HEARTBEAT” for your trip south. When installing an underwater fitting we make every attempt to make it watertight the first time. Unfortunately, we can never be certain until the boat is launched. We are sorry for the delays caused by lifting the boat back out to rebed the seacock. It appears the holding tank location was not adequately discussed. We felt it had been, but in hindsight, you obviously had misgivings. I enjoyed our recent discussion. If you would like us to relocate the tank when the boat returns in the spring, we will work with you on it. Travel safe and enjoy your trip.

Great marina, but watch your repairs, 2015-10-30
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1304)

Spent about 8 months here getting 80 k worth of repairs. We dicussed getting the boat back in early May and got in mid-June. There was also work not done that required us returning. The new auto-pilot did not have the wind vane set-up. A new alternator was installed, but it was a 120 amp rather than the 85 amp on the boat. After 3 fan belts, the new alternator had to be replaced with an 85 amp one. Overall a lot of work was done; my mistake was not having a check list, but the same with Zahniser's. There wood work was excellant as was their electrical work minus the alternator and instruments.

Management response:
Captain Pholeric:

Thank you for the opportunity to accommodate and repair your 41' catamaran. The hull and flooding damage from dropping off your lift was extensive, involving fiberglass/gelkote repairs, engine repairs, sound insulation replacement, bulkhead repair/replacement, electrical, electronic, air conditioning replacement, fire/smoke mitigation, painting, vinyl graphics and varnish work. Regards the late spring delivery, there were a lot of elements to bring together, but a late delivery is a late delivery and for this we apologize. Sorry you had difficulties with the alternator and steering to wind feature of the autopilot. We wish you had called about these. The alternator could have been de-tuned to 85 amps via regulator's Belt Saver software. Hardware was installed for syncing of the wind vane to the autopilot and we thought the vane option was accomplished by the initial dockside setup of the pilot, but if it needed additional adjustment, perhaps we could have helped by phone. We are pleased to hear the remaining work is satisfactory. . We are always available to help with your service needs in the future.

We initially decided to come to Zahniser's based on friends' recommendations and their "1st" rating on Active Captain. Not only are their facilities top notch, but it is THE place to be if you need service. We had a problem keeping our batteries charged. Glen, a masterful electrician, diagnosed the problem and ordered a new inverter/charger on Monday and had it installed and operational on Tuesday -- and Monday was a holiday! Equally impressive was the treatment we received from Craig Bumgarner, the Service Manager, who quickly addressed some post-installation questions to our complete satisfaction. Hats off to the service staff for a job well done!

Picked up a mooring ball for 4 nights. First come, first served for the mooring balls and usually they are full by evening. Great facility with clean restrooms, laundry, pool and ships store. Only thing not here is fuel; however, it is available at several locations in the harbor. We will be back for another long stay.

Kinda disappointed..., 2015-09-23
Captain: , Oriental, NC (190)

We needed parts to perform routine maintenance on our Yanmar and Zahniser's had what we needed at a very good price. When our Cruisair wasn't working, we were happy to ask Zahniser's to come fix it. The tech showed up on time and since we had a good idea what the problem was, he was able to diagnose it quickly. He needed a part but was back in a couple of hours to install it. We were very happy with our experience until we got the bill. We were expecting to be charged for 1 to 1-1/2 hours of labor so we were surprised when we were actually charged for 2 hours and 10 minutes of labor. We reviewed the bill. The labor charges included loading and unloading the truck, receiving the part and calling to meet us at the boat. The service manager did discount the bill $50 when we complained but a padded bill sure leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Management response:
Captain Fisher:

Glad we were able to meet your service needs with prompt and successful service. As explained when we reviewed the invoice together, our policy is to charge from the time our technician is given your job to the time he completes it and signs off. This includes the time spent on your boat and his time loading tools, travel time to/from the marina where your boat was located twice, diagnostics, ordering and receiving parts, as necessary to make your repair successful. You were charged according to this policy, but in the name of customer goodwill, we adjusted the invoice on the spot in response to your concern and to what you proposed as fair. If we can assist you in anyway in the future please feel free to contact us.

Captain: , Road Harbour - BVI (759)

We stayed here just one night only because our friends were here. Solomons offers very little in the way of things to do on shore other than a few restaurants and the museum. So, no one marina is better situated than another. After the first night we moved to Calverts Marina across the water for half the price. We used our dinghy to get to the free dinghy docks at the museum and the city dock. We used the money saved to enjoy meals at the local restaurants.

While at Calverts, we were surprised to see boats on the mooring buoys. For just literally a couple of dollars more they could tie to a floating dock and have electricity and water at Calverts.

Management response:
Thank you for visiting Zahniser's and taking the time to write a review on ActiveCaptain. Our Customers' input is valuable to us as we strive to offer the highest quality facility and service they deserve. We feel fortunate to be located in one of "America's Happiest Seaside Towns" as voted by Coastal LIving Magazine readers. Wtih 7 marinas in this area, offering a variety of options, we are glad you found one to suit your needs. If we can assist you in any way, please don't hesitate to contact us in the future.

Last week my family and I were on vacation. The last league of our vacation we were scheduled to stay at Zahniser's Yachting Center. Mid way through the week our forward Air Condtioning Unit quit on us. We did not recgonize the error codes. We called Zahnier's and were put in touch with Craig who said he would have someone at our boat the day after we pulled in. When we arrived on Wednesday Brian O'Hara was at our boat within 1 hour. He was professional and trouible shot our problem ordered a part and got us up and running. We will be back agian to stay and possibly have some scheduled work done.

One of our favorite stops on way south. About seven hours from the Kent Narrows by sailboat. Much less from Oxford or Cambridge.
Great restaurant with daily specials. But closes relative early, 9pm.
Bar and pub fare at swimming pool. Free bikes ! Staff very accomodating, no problem arriving late and docking, settling up in morning. Reservation suggested but not needed. Busy at holidays. A few moorings available too in about 7' depth.
Visit Calvert museum in walking distance, one of the Best in Maryland !

This place is a breath of fresh air. I purchased my boat Oct. 2014 and went here from St. Leanoards Creek to have my prop repitched. Made an appointment and everything from start to finish (haul, adjustment, launch) went exactly as they stated in the time frame alotted. The staff is exceedingly professional, helpful, and almost most importanlty - ON TIME! The facilities are top notch and the resturant was amazing. The menu is a little on the pricier side, but for sure a well put together meal. Often marina resturaunts are a bit of a miss, but this one is spot on. Every service Zahniser's offers seems well thoughtout and executed. Cannot recommend enough.

One of Our Favorites, Centrally Located, 2015-07-03
Captain: , Richmond (223)

Great Marina, professional staff, and every amenity you could want. We've been here many times, and chose this time because we expected to be socked in by weather and knew it's a great place to be stranded. The restaurant is always outstanding, the new private bathrooms are wonderful, the pool is nice and the complimentary bikes are handy with the shops and restaurants on the island east and West Marine/Food Lion west equidistant 10 minutes away. Also close to the Calvert Marine Museum by bike or dinghy. The piers are showing their age and the slips are very ,very narrow, so youi might consider adding a foot to your beam for comfort when arranging a slip. Another option is to grab a first come first serve mooring behind the last docks at less than half price and still get use of the marina facilities. They have a floating dinghy dock just a hundred yards away.

Excellent as usual, 2015-06-20
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (375)

We've been coming to Zahniser's for many years and they have always been great. We are here with the Annapolis Sail & Power Squadron for two nights and are pleased with our stay. We enjoyed drinks and lunch at the pool, followed in the evening with an excellent dinner at the DryDock restaurant.
There are two sets of showers. The first set is in the lower level of the DryDock restaurant building and are individual rooms with shower/tub, toilet, bench, and sink with mirror. The other set is in the next building to the north and is a set of stalls for showers and toilets and a separate bank of sinks. Everything is clean and roomy.
The pumpout here is one of the best we've found along the ICW. There is no fuel here, but there are several places nearby with reasonable prices.
We were located on a facedock with lots of room. Even though we were beam to the opening down the creek, we had a stable stay.

Picked up a mooring for the evening and we wished it were for longer. Very protected area, quiet and little boat traffic creating wakes. Lots to do in the area.

Marina was full service, super clean yard, pool and restaurant on site.

We will plan a longer stop here on our return trip.

We stayed here on our way south and enjoyed the community. Now heading north we where not disappointed.

First rate staff on the dock and in the facilities great showers and laundry.

We have been stopping at Zahniser's for years. They have always impressed us with their service and friendly atmosphere. Dockmaster, Terry and her staff go out of their way to make your visit pleasant. They are dog friendly and the Dry Dock resturant is outstanding. We have never needed their service department, but based on the reviews, I'm sure it is outstanding also. We asked Terry where we could buy Ginger Beer, she didn't know but had some at home. Three sixpacks were on our boat this morning. Now that is service.

Fantastic Marina, 2015-04-27
Captain: , Portland, Maine (845)

We stopped here to duck out of a low for a couple of days and were well protected. The yard is very clean and organized with first rate facilities. We rode the loaner bikes to shop and also used the free shuttle. Laundry is cheap. 2 loads for less than $5 wash and dry. Jim Sharkie(sp) was extremely helpful and provided us with a small piece of starboard cut to size for no charge. The off season rates make this stop a real bargain but we would return at full price.

Update 4/23/2015

We stopped in here on our way north. We needed to get our dog to a vet immediately. They were too happy to help us by providing a loaner car, even after hours if we needed it. We saw them a few days later at the Annapolis boat show and they asked how we and the dog were doing. Just great folks who know how to run a marina.

BIL recommended this spot. We arrived at 1130 pm after a 12h trek from the CDC. Night navigation without a moon and lightning in distance was NOT pleasant. Lots of red and green buoys to negotiate and it looked like a Popeye waterside town in the dark. Go around the island!? OK then it made sense! Fueled up took a walk with the dog and moved along. Beautiful area.

Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

We come back here time after time. They are professional, friendly, and helpful. The facilities are terrific. Year after year they keep this marina a first class place. Always a great experience!

2012: The staff is friendly and professional. The docks and grounds are inviting. This is a terrific marina as all their reviews say. We've been on the moorings and it's easy to bring the dinghy to their dinghy dock and go ashore. We've been on their docks and enjoyed having easy access for the dogs. The neraby Woodburns grocery store closed but the marina now offers a shuttle to the Food Lion. The pet store also moved but is now in the same shopping center, or they will deliver to your boat with a minimum purchase. Do not pass up dinner at The Dry Dock. We had a very good meal. We had a wonderful stay and will return!

How to Run a Boat Yard, 2014-10-29
Captain: , Roseland, NJ (332)

When we were considering a repower in 2008 while cruising full time some of the folks in the Hylas Owners Association referred us here. Our mechanic Jim Franklin first meticulously explained what he would be doing and when, and then proceeded with the installation and a crew education. He started early, and stayed late. He was a gem, and has since retired. We had many others work on the boat at Zahnisers over our cruising years, all with the same level of professionalism. And then we built a house.

We made the mistake of not continuing with our maintenance needs this year at Zahnisers, opting instead for a yard with what we thought was a decent reputation closer to home. The work was significantly delayed and as one repair after another performed at the local yard failed and their multiple efforts to repair the repair were not successful, we finally figured out a long trip to have the job done right was the smart decision. We phoned Craig Bumgarner at Zahnisers while underway, having just experienced yet another failure, and were able to bring the boat in as soon we arrived. Paul the engine mechanic took a few days to address the shaft alignment issue the local yard had caused and been unable to correct, install a new dripless shaft seal to replace the dripping one just installed, and a few hours to diagnose and correct a engine shutdown problem that the local yard had never been able to figure out.

A few weeks later the fiberglass ruptured at the bow for the third time on top of the core repair work the local yard did. Craig once again worked us into their schedule and Bobby just completed a great looking job, after removing the wet balsa that we thought was taken care of initially and the cause of the repetitive rupture. While there Chuck improved our Frigoboat refrigeration performance and as always, when we deal with Chuck we walk away understanding our boat better.

When Zahnisers gives you an invoice, it is not a line item sum total. They tell you what they did, in detail. Zahnisers starts the work when they promise, complete it in the time they estimate, and do a quality job.

When you show up at a yard six years later and you see all the same people, why would you go anywhere else? I hope I will never need reminding again.

Called the marina on a Sunday, to,report that our deck wash pump had quit. Jim Sharky said come in tomorrow, and we can have one here and get you back on the road the same day.
"a man of his word". Steve on the boat 9:30 work complete by lunch with a great discussion of what needed to be done to make our trip South safe.

With bad weather approaching this marina took us in without a reservation on a Sat. night. Facilities ar first rate, the staff is curtious and efficent. The Dingy Dry Dock restaurant is a bargin for quality. We would stay there again.

what a steal, 2014-09-15
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (686)

I don't stay at many marinas but this place takes the cake! I thought I would anchor and looked at Solomons 1 but no other boats were there so I moved on. Solomons 2 had a few boats so I dropped the hook but couldn't get it to stick. There was a blow forcasted so I moved onto a mooring ball for just $30 per night with fantastic facilities and wonderful staff. Bus to walmart is a cinch BTW. You catch it at the library. There are 2 walmarts but the St Mary's one is a super walmart and bigger

Really nice place, 2014-08-29
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

A definite place to stay if you are wanting all the amenties and facilities. I give this four versus five stars due to price. We usually stay elsewhere in Solomons, but decided to give here a try. If you want nice and very convienent to town, then this is one of the best. If you do not want to spend this much, then there are very good alternatives in Solomons that also are walking distance, or have a courtesy car.

A fabulous place to stay in Solomons, 2014-07-29

We stayed here for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it - can't imagine how it could have been better.

The marina is in excellent condition, well-maintained. Had some repairs done on our boat, the servcie staff were very accomodating and did quality work.

The location is ideal for walking around Solomons. We will be back often!

Great facilities and wonderful staff, 2014-07-18
Captain: , Englewood, Fl (351)

We stayed at Zahniser's the first week of July 2014. The facilities and staff rank in the top five of all our stops since leaving the Great Lakes in the Fall of 2012. We walked, rode bikes, and used our dinghy to see the sites of the island. Dock Master, Terry Walters is the best we've met.

Captain: , annapolis (453)

June 23rd in route to my home port, Annapolis, from wintering in the Bahamas; I stopped at Zahnisers for a short haul.

Spoke with Jim and Phil and requested to be hauled over staff's lunch break. No problem. My Pacific Seacraft 37 was hauled sprayed and left hanging in the slings. This allowed me an extra 30 -45 minutes to replace the zinc, clean and spray the prop,
and some touch up from 3,000 nm round trip to George Town.
Good to go. Short haul rate is $8/ft.

Everyone on Zahnisers staff is friendly. Will return in November for winter storage.

PS: Excellent meal in the Dry Dock- nice view of the marina.

$30.00 Mooring Ball, 2014-06-05
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

Zahniser's is a great operation, but $30.00 is awfully expensive for a mooring ball. The balls are also very close together although the field is so well protected that it's easy to pick up a ball. With the balls so close it's not a good idea to tie a line of yours to theirs. Just use theirs.

Excellent facility and town, 2014-06-01
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

This marina was excellent and the staff were the most professional and pleasant we have come across yet.
The pool was a little cool but a lovely setting, combined with a great town a new board walk and a free food shuttle service, free loaner bikes. We will definitely be back, the only thing I would request is cable TV service.

Best Service in the Chesapeake, 2013-10-21
Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

Wanted to update our older review. This is a wonderful place to stop and rest. The service, headed by Jim and Terry, is outstanding. There are swings and playground area for little kids. The bathroom are super clean. Everybody goes out of their way to make this the place to stop.

We were travelling south and had to park our boat for Hurricane Sandy. Stayed in Z's mooring field, boat came through with no problems.

What impressed me the most was the service oriented, customer focused staff at all levels. The hurricane was coming, boats were being pulled out, people were nervous, yet the crew at Z's got things done and everything worked out.

Special thanks to Terri, the dockmaster, for a warm welcome when we came to shore the first day on our dinghy.

Extended dockage & various services, 2013-10-14
Captain: , St Paul, MN (180)

Left our 40' Mainship Trawler here for 5 weeks for a very reasonable fee. Dockmaster Terry assisted docking and made sure we understood the ammenities of the marina.
Was able to communicate, long distance with Craig, Jim & Phil in service to get estimates on various projects and had them do several critical ones. They agreed to winterize the boat when I could watch the process. Glenn did the job and patiently explained what was being done and why. All work was done very professionally and for less than I had expected. There was no "padding" of time as has been the case in other marinas.
We will definitely visit Zahniser's again and have future work done here.

Service as it should be, 2013-10-09

I have had service work completed at ZYC for the last 15 years, Big jobs and small. Jobs no one else could conceive. The people at Zahniser's are very friendly and the marina is well taken care of. Sailboats definitely out number power boats. We stayed her for a night in mid-September. They put us on the T and the end of one of their docks. It was perfect.

The grounds are well kept. They have nice restrooms, pool and the Dry Dock restaurants was excellent. I highly recommend the surf and turf.

We will definitely be back. The marina is a short walk to shops and the river walk.

This IS the place to go for vacation. Weather you take a slip or a mooring ball Zahniser's treats you like royalty. Their parts department will go out of their way to find you what you need. The swimming pool is clean and cool with a friendly bar/snack bar in the pool area. They have bikes to borrow, a ships store and the best bathrooms I have ever seen in a marina. We spent two nights on their mooring balls and found them to be very nice. Didn't really use the facilities, but did see a nice book exchange. Easy dinghy in, and also very convenient to the wonderful Calvert Marine Museum.

Did not eat in the onsite restaurant, but a glance at the menu looked pretty expensive. We recommend the nearby Captain's Table Restaurant.

Best of the Bay, 2013-04-10
Captain: , Quantico VA - Amelia FL (677)

If you are looking for the best of the bay. This is it. Honestly the best marine maintenance experience I've ever had. Honest, reasonable, and timely they have expert management and service. Hard to find better - I'm certain. They took the extra time to get me out of the way of Sandy last year, did more than I thought possible, and have earned a customer for life - Grace really appreciates the new Max-Prop they installed.

Good protected moorings and staff, 2013-03-22
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (785)

We took a mooring after anchoring a couple of nights so we could get groceries and fill the propane tanks. The marina van makes runs to the stores several times a day in season. Showers and facilities are 10 out of 10. Ice was priced low.

Perhaps the best on the bay, 2013-01-12
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

We stayed here for the 1st time for 2 nights this summer (2012). Friends recommended it, but it is a bit of a ride from the upper bay so i had not made it before this year. Well, I won't hesitate about returning in the future. What an amazing facility. Great docks, pool, bath houses, onsite restaurant, The Dry Dock, was superb. Service service service - these people get it and for that I commend them. Free use of bikes allowed us to tour the town too. Fun and scenic, Solomon's Island is quaint, but frankly we didn't even want to leave the marina it was so nice.

Above and Beyond, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

Being from the Gulf Coast of Texsas, we have seen a few storms and how marinas handle them. The first storm for our boat was Katrina when she was in New Orleans. We chose to take a slip at Zahnizer's due to the requirement to stay put while my mate recovers from a medical condition so it was that our boat was in a slip during Sandy. A very great surprise and a service rendered well above most marinas was the team that roamed the docks during the storm adjusting dock lines and making sure boats were well tied. They did that all night and most of the next day.

A Great Place, 2012-11-04
Captain: , Stuart, FL (1019)

Terry helped onto one dock for a pump out and, then, helped us tie up to our face dock slip. She was a wealth of information about Solomon's and the Marina. We borrowed their bikes and rode around town and out to the supermarket. Ate wonderful crabcakes at Stoney's Seafood House.

The Marina is super clean with really nice people. They go out of their way to help.

Don't miss the Annmarie Gardens, a great outdoor sculpture park that's a bike tide away.

Friendly, safe marina to hide in during a hurricane!, 2012-10-30
Captain: , New York, NY (20)

We stayed on ZYC's mooring during Hurricane Sandy and we were safe as houses. The marina staff were extremely helpful and even offered to drive us to the grocery store and back, which we took them up on.

Super marina to stay at... I only wish we were here in better weather!

Outstanding Service Great People!!!, 2012-10-28
Captain: , Salem, MA (372)

We arrived and had a medical emergency. Terry the dockmaster called 911 for us and got us the EMT%u2019s and ambulance. We were rushed to the hospital. After being treated at the hospital Jim Sharkey, Marina Manager, came and picked us up with his own truck and brought us back well after the office had closed.
I can%u2019t speak enough as to how great these folks take care of their customers.

Great Place to be, 2012-10-27
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

We stayed on their mooring for a couple of days. Meanshile the dinghy engine wouldn't keep it's idle. I asked the service department and they reccomended we call another business since they were booked, and don'tusually d small engines. Not a problem. We called the "Reliable Marine" people and Mike said sure, we will come, get the carburator out, take it and clean the gunk from the ethanol out. Later same day they called and said they were done, but reccomended a new tank and hose so the fuel wouldn't get contaminated again by a leaking air vent. It is working like a charm now and all in a day.

Wonderful marina!, 2012-10-15
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (20)

The staff is extremely helpful and the facility is clean and lovely. They provided transportation to the Food Lion and CVS. We'd stay again.

Nice clean marina, 2012-10-10
Captain: , Oxford, Md (130)

Stayed here over the Columbus day weekend. Very clean marina, bathrooms & docks. The on site restraunt is nice but, a bit pricey. Staff was very polite and willing to help.

Great location, 2012-10-08
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

It was easy to walk to downtown restaurants in one direction and to the museum in the other. We also had access to bikes and were able to attend a festival at the museum. Zahnizers had a van to take us to the supermarket. They promptly picked us up when we called. If you don't time it right, it could be a long wait for the washer and dryer. The main bath house was exceptional; the other could use some sprucing up. Overall, great experience.

WOW, They are customer focused!, 2012-09-25
Captain: , Branford, CT (1003)

We pulled into the Solomons with the intent of going to the nearby urgent care facility (nothing serious). The receptionist at the urgent care facility said I had to go to the hospital (20 miles away) for my condition (crazy...but I couldn't get past her wall). I called Zahniser's and asked if they had a courtesy car. They do not, but Terry said she'd call me right back. She did and told me I could pull up one of their T docks and she had a way for me to get to the hospital and back. Incredible!

Very clean and nice bathrooms, too

Captain: , Kent Narrows, MD (200)

Zanhiser's is truly a world-class facility. I've stayed there many times and always found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The facilities are clean and more than adequate. The Dry Dock restaurant is excellent but small so get there early; it is also pricey as is the facility relative to others South on the Bay, but worth it. Although a rental bike may be needed to get to the supermarket, the restaurants and watering holes are all within walking distance, as is the Marine Museum.

Great marina with poolside service, 2012-08-27
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (50)

The dockhands are top notch and the pool has food service. Dry Dock restaurant overlooks the creek and marina with excellent food. Our group of 7 boats was put on the convenient T-heads with unobstructed views of the creek. Short dinghy or bike ride to the famous Tiki bar. Overall, Zahniser's is a wonderful stop or destination.

An excellent boating resort, 2012-08-21
Captain: , Londontowne, MD (470)

We've stayed here several times over the years, most recently over 4 days of this last week (8/15-8/19/12). The marina is well run, staff is always friendly, one night at the Dry Dock Restaurant is always a treat (with a more adventurous menu, although a bit pricier than most other Solomons choices), daily visits to the pool are always relaxing, and there's no end of entertainment just watching all the boat traffic go back and forth. We appreiciate that ZYC is slightly more centrally located than are other marinas to the north or south, so destinations in either direction (town south, or Museum and West Marine, etc. north) are all relatively easy to get to, certainly within easy bicyclng distance, and usually easily within dinghy distance for waterside destinations. If Zahniser's had floating docks instead of fixed, I'd probably rate it an 8 on a scale of 1-to-5! Crediblle nearby restaurants that we've sampled over the years include CD Cafe (closest, easy walk, and good food), Stoney's Kingfisher Restaurant (an easy dinghy ride or slighly longer walk), The Pier Restaurant on the Patuxent River side (bicycle), and the Captain's Table slightly further up the creek and an easy dinghy ride). The latter is a bit "homier" and the building shows its age, but the staff is friendly and the breakfast bar (buffet) was good enough.

Excellent customer service & follow up, 2012-08-06
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

Sadly, the restaurant was closed when we were there (7/8/12) but the dockmaster recommended a local nearlby restaurant called the CD Cafe/Restaurant, which was beyond great. We only stayed one night on our way north, but would definitely come back.

Great place to stay, 2012-07-17
Captain: , Rock Hall Md. (138)

Very helpful with docking. Great resturant on site ( make revs.) Both bath houses have AC and are clean.

Helped us out!, 2012-07-15
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1025)

The winch to lift our tender onto our second deck burnt out. Because we were leaving the next daay, we needed to get our dinghy back on board. The folks at Zanheiser's told us where and when to be with our boat and dinghy and they lifted it back on-board with their crane. They charged us only 2 hours of labor and one hour of crane time. Thank you Zanheiser's!!

Great staff, nice town, 2012-07-05
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7374)

Zahniser's found room for us for extended stay during busy July 4th week, we needed to repair generator. Very helpful, friendly staff. Nice pool with bar & food. Very nice restaurant on site. Full service marina if repairs needed, winter storage. Fully stocked marine store. Several restaurants in town, nice museum. Zahniser's will drive you to grocery store, also has loaner bikes. Oilder docks with short fingers, but very good conditon. Large dinghy dock if you want to grab a mooring ball or anchor out.

A VERY NICE MARINA, 2012-06-04
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1633)

We stayed on the end T tied alongside. The docks were in very good condition and the staff was very friendly and helpful. You got the impression they knew that the transient customer is the reason they are there, not an interuption to their job. The rest rooms, showers and laundry room were beautiful, well maintained, and very clean. The pool was an extra bonus on a hot day. They offer loaner bikes for trips to the market, ab out a mile away. Wifi was also very good

Great Stop for A Day or Two, 2012-05-10
Captain: , Providence, ri (60)

we stayed on one of their moorings, $30/night with full use of facilities, which are topnotch. They drove us to grocery and picked us up. Well stocked and reasonably priced ship's store and very friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more.....

Well....yes you we were readying to leave at 6 am on sunday, our raw water strainer snapped a bolt and diasabled us. They towed us to the service dock, and a mechanic was there first thing Monday AM....he took less than an hour to fabricate a new part in the machine shop (!!!) and install it, and we were on our way. Service way above and beyond what we have seen at other facilities.

An excellent restaurant, just a short walk from the marina, is the CD Cafe.A local we met said it was the best in the area.

Parts Search, 2012-04-26
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (451)

Talked to Laura about a part for an old Morse Dual Control. Even though they didn't have the part, she made phone calls and searched the internet to help me. Although we couldn't find a part, she made a great effort to help me and we weren't even staying at the marina. Thanks Laura!

Great Boatyard, 2012-01-15
Captain: , Hampton, VA (30)

Don't be put off by the comments regarding how expensive Zahniser's may be. I have had work done there for years and they are outstanding. Yes, they have a higher hourly rate than many and they bill every item, but they spend less time than others and I like having a detailed itemized bill rather than just show a charge for "shop items." Their work is outstanding, they get it done right the first time, and they have always been very accommodating. I have referred a number of people there including two sailboat repowerings and everyone has been very pleased. Zahniser's is always my first choice for any boat work.

Great folks, 2012-01-08
Captain: , florida (230)

I called them to make a reservation yesterday (January 9th, 2012), saying we'd arrive shortly after 3 PM. They close at 3 PM on Saturdays in the off season. I would have been glad to tie myself up, but they had dock hands stay late to help us and check us in. Great customer service!

The place is well maintained, the bathrooms and showers are clean, and they're pet friendly. Can't say enough nice things about them.

Hauled out, washed & Blocked, Jims team painted her and polished Suzie Too. Everyone was so helpful & accomodating. Facilities, good, clean, restaurant food was excellent. Pool area & small childrens play area. Its got everything, would recommend to everyone to visit!

Skilled but expensive, 2011-12-07
Captain: , Dover, DE (20)

We had our catamaran hauled here in Sept 2011. The travelift and slew are ideal for catamarans. We were happy with the quality of the work done. The bill was another story - VERY expensive. Every brush, rag and cloth is billed out to a whopper of a tab. DIY work is forbidden. Craig is knowlegable but aloof. The work is done well but be prepared for a beating to your Visa

Full Service Stopover 10-24-2011, 2011-10-24
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

$1.90/ft + $12 for electric, a bit on the $$ side but a nice quiet marina, full service. The pool looked nice for in-season use and the restaurant was closed on Sunday for dinner so we did not really make full use of this marina. It is well situated to walk into "town" which is really just a walk along the river with a few restaurants and gift shops, attractive and a good walking "town".

Zahniser's Yachting Center, 2011-10-17

Excellent Marina, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Atlanta (100)

Stayed one night. Arrived after hours. Everything was set p for us. they left a sign with our name on it at the slip. Very long T Head. Easy in easy out. Good restaurant, but expensive. No fuel. If you need fuel early, Bunky's opens at 5am.

Good place to stop., 2011-07-05
Captain: , Deale, MD (347)

Friendly and helpful staff. Dock are fairly tight and showing age. Nice pool, laundry and bathroom facilities. No fuel. The Dry Dock restaurant is a safe bet and there are other good restaurants nearby. Over all, Zahniser's is a safe bet and in a good position to enjoy Solomons.

Always wonderful, 2011-06-19

Stopped here on the way up the Bay. Terry and her dockhands always provide a warm and professional welcome. On premises restaurant has fantastic food!

The Dry Dock is back..., 2011-05-20
Captain: , Hampton, VA (116)

The on-site restaurant, the Dry Dock, has returned to it's former high quality level after a year+ of very disappointing food. We have found very few marina restaurants where the food was more than fried fish and crab cakes, but this one is great. We would stop here only for dinner, but all the other praise we can easily agree with.

Great visit, 2011-05-15
Captain: , New Bern, NC (10)

We had a great visit here. Clean modern bathrooms and laundry. Loaner bikes for quick trip to West Marine. Close to multiple restraunts and shops. Maritime Museum within walking distance. Dockmaster, Teri called to let us know about farmer's market in town. What's not to like?

Great Marina, 2011-05-09
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (6077)

Showers and restrooms are the best I've ever seen in a marina (they are fully ceramic tiled). There is a laundry, 2 washers and 2 dryers from $1 to $1.25/load. Although there is not a loaner car, they do have loaner bicycles and the town is not far away.

WestMarine is an easy ride away but the grocery store that used to be almost next door has closed and you now must ride to Food Lion for provisions, another 10 minutes or so on a bike.

The Captain's Table is a good, dependable restaurant right on the water, a 5 min bike ride or a 15 min walk.

The staff here is first rate, very helpful and friendly and they have a decent marine store on the premises.

Full Service with a Smile, 2011-04-19

Top Notch Marina, 2011-04-13

the best for transients in solomons..., 2011-03-07
Captain: , baltimore (168)

I highly recommend this marina. It seems that they really know what they are doing, and that really made for a nice time in Solomons. We walked to the King Fisher for dinner and it was outstanding. Plus, they have an excellent web presence which is something I value. Great place and great informative website.

Loaner bikes, clean showers, nice people, great restaurant -- what's not to like. This place never disappoints.

great facility, 2010-11-02
Captain: , Galena MD (171)

A real haven after a hair-raising run down the bay. Got in late for the staff but had good directions to our slip which was marked by a big sign--nice touch. The bathrooms were clean and plentiful and private. The pool was clear and inviting and town is only a short bike ride away. A nice destination in itself. Hard to leave the grounds.

Best Marina and Working Yard, 2010-08-13
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (329)

We have been coming to Zahniser%u2019s Yachting Center (ZYC) since 2000. We anchored many times in this area; however, in 2000 when our generator broke down on our previous boat we called Jim Sharkey, the marina manager at ZYC. He went out of his way to get us to the dock, repaired and back on our way. From then on we scheduled an annual vacation at the ZYC%u2019s docks. Not only is it clean and staff friendly, it has a great pool, is close to the nice small town of Solomons and has the best maintenance yard anywhere. Every summer we work with Sharkey on our list of repair/maintenance items to be done by the ZYC highly qualified staff. Whether we need bottom paint, gel coat repairs, electrical work or engine work this is the place that we go. I doubt that there is anything that they can%u2019t do and do well.

First Class Marina, 2010-08-01
Captain: , Lottsburg, Va (264)

This is a very nice marina for a one night or one week stay. Nice clean rest rooms, laundry facility, pool, helpful staff. It is a big marina so the complimentary bikes could be used for getting from one side of the facility to the other, those more adventuous can ride to town; there is a West Marine within 1 mile. First class resturant on site and several more in walking distance. Well equipped yard which we did not need (for a change).

We took a mooring here for one evening. Easy dingy dock access, friendly staff. Very nice showers, probably the best we have had the honor of depositing our cruising grime in!

Loaner bikes were helpful in getting to Woodburns.

Nice stop in Solomon's, 2010-06-17
Captain: , Bonita Springs (484)

Stayed on a mooring for 3 nites (43 ft boat). Easy to approach moorings (first come first served) with dock, pool, bar, nice rest rooms and laundry. Close to several places to eat with West Marine and groceries nearby too. They have nice loaner bikes to run errands or just cruise around. Friendly place.Take dingy to Holiday Inn dock which is very close to grocery store. Calvert Maritime museum is definitily worth a visit. History, ecology, marine life all displayed nicely.

Best of Solomons, 2010-06-05
Captain: , Wicomico Creek, MD (494)

Great stop convenient to Calvert Maritime museum, grocery and West Marine. One of the best restaurants in Solomons, The Dry Dock on the premises. Would have rated it a "5" but docks are not floating.

Need to return when it's warmer to get the whole experience., 2010-05-19
Captain: , MA and Southwest FL (538)

This a first class operation. Staff was extremely helpful. Upon arrival, they provided top notch instructions and had our slip reserved with our boat name on it. We were there early in the season (April) so pool and other items were still closed, but what we did use (store, restaurant, bathrooms) were all excellent.

Only downside, slips a bit sparse (pilings with litle dock space) for our likes.

Excellent destination, 2010-01-16
Captain: , Albemarle Plantation, NC (389)

Marina services are complete; physical plant is exceptionally well maintained. Friends of ours have had complex repairs done with no complaints. The restaurant has a long tradition of very fine southern Maryland cuisine. Small, beautiful vista, not stuffy. Just right. One of our favorite restaurants for many years. Marina is in the heart of the Solomons Island tourist mecca. A little far to walk to the Tiki Bar down at the other end of the island, but you probably could use the exercise. I know I do!

Great Moorings in a Good Location, 2009-11-01
Captain: , South Portland, ME (537)

The nine moorings at Zahniser's are well maintained and adequately spaced. A, B and C are for bigger boats (we are a 49') and D thru I are for 43 ft and below. The staff is very friendly and the dinghy dock is free for people on their moorings. Short walk to historic area of Solomons including Calvert Maritime Museum.

Good mooring, 2009-07-26
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

At $40.00, the moorings are a little expensive, but include swimming priviliges and docking at the convenient dinghy dock. Long single pennant, as a power boat we had to bridle into the clevis to add a second line. Good swing room, not crammed together. No wakes.

Stayed here in July 08 while emergency work was done on our engine; the staff were so impressive we came back in Nov 08 to leave our boat for the winter. Extremely nice marina with full amenities. Staff extremely helpful. Had a steering problem and the staff went out of its way to launch a small boat and tow us into the correct dock space and then wait around to make certain that everything was in order. Reasonable rates for the area. Great access to the town. Very friendly dock mates and nice picnic areas for relaxing, etc. Definitely a place to stay.
