Reviews for Wrightsville Beach Marina and Transient Dock
Poor Customer Service, 2016-07-04
Captain: , Little River SC (365)

I did not stay at the marina so the review is only based on customer service over the phone. I called about getting dockage for my next stop. THe guy that answered the phone said he needed to talk with the dockmaster before committing dockage to me. He said he would call me right back. I got no call!

Easy stop for fuel and an overnight, 2016-06-29
Captain: , Havre De Grace MD (130)

Very convenient fuel stop with their t-head running parallel to the channel. They dockhands were extremely helpful and did a fantastic job helping us get secured. Great location to people watch all the boat traffic going by.

People at their best, 2016-05-25
Captain: , Sterling, VA (50)

We were heading north with a nice anchorage picked out. 6:05pm after clearing Wrightsville Bridge, got a call our daughter was being airlifted to a major trauma center inNY after bad accident. We found WBM by phone and they could not have been nicer. They found us a slip and said we could leave the boat as long as needed. Other reviews are correct, lots of current. Got tied up and on our way to find our daughter. WBM called us, checked our boat every day. When we returned to continue our voyage north, they gave us a special rate for our one week stay. Our daughter will recover, and all is well. WBM are special people who really helped this boater in serious time of need. People of great compassion and commitment. We will always remember WBM in our hearts.

Great stop inside or outside passage (update 5/16), 2016-05-19
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (944)

Wrightsville Beach is a great stop whether transiting the ICW from the inside or coming / going outside. Inlet is Class A, well marked and deep.

The Wrightsville Beach Marina offers in-slip fueling, excellent bath facilites and laundry, pool, and a good restaurant on-site. There is also a Marine Max within walking distance so in the event you need parts or service.
Update 5/16 - The dockmaster is EXCELLENT and worked hard to get us fueled and into our slip for the night. While the outside transient dock is in a no wake zone, it is right on the ICW so you get a fair amoount of sloshing and slapping, especailly during the daytime hours. Current can be strong so be prepared with lines and fenders before your approach.

Excellent Assistant Dockmaster, 2016-04-09
Captain: , Southwest Harbor, ME (185)

Dead low water, winds screaming from the WSW, Travis got us tied up in a flash
He is the best we have seen on this voyage
And Poe's Tavern that he recommended was also great

Not at all worth the price, 2016-03-22
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (70)

I couldn't even get the terrible WiFi to completely open AC to write this review!!! $3.00 a foot, or $2.50 if you purchase $2.39 diesel... Dock hand was helpful, not to difficult to dock. Dockhand didn't even acknowledge my $20 too little of a tip for helping tie up? Just not worth it at all. Only plus is that there are eateries close by. I won't even inquire as to the cost of a pump out...

Good marina for Med. size boats, 2015-12-20
Captain: , Forked river nj (280)

Overall a great marina. It for sure requires a experieced capt to dock as the current is very strong. I would recceomed trying to be on the side tie as, if you are not a experienced capt docking inside the marina could be dificult for some.

Excellent Location, 2015-10-17
Captain: , Hull, MA (700)

Marina is located in a central location for restaurants, beach, suoermarket, liguor stores. Everything is within a 1 mile walk of the marina but beach buggy taxi service is available for around $5. Marina staff is Great and the alongside floating docks were in great shape and easy to get on and off even with a stiff current. Want Mexian try Tower 7 Baja Mexian-Yum. The marina also has a nice pool overlooking the ICW and also a restaurant on side

Lots of things to do here, 2015-07-14
Captain: , Tonawanda,NY (261)

Great place, very helpful staff, nice and clean.
Ran aground just north of the bridge at the inlet had to call tow boats.

Wrightsville Beach Marina, 2015-05-15
Captain: , jupiter,fl (130)

We pulled into Wrightsville Beach Marina yesterday while the currents were fairly strong. Docking was not easy but Sam, calmly gave us docking instructions and made a difficult dock, really easy. Sam and Madison were very nice and very capable. The marina is in a wonderful spot with a pretty pool and a great waterside restaurant. The town and beach are a short walk. Definitely will be stopping here again.

Easy in & out, 2015-05-01
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1866)

First class operation. great docks, great staff, good water depth, good power, good restaurant. what is not to like? West Marine and anything else you need close by. Stayed here night of 4-29-15.

Customer service, 2014-11-11
Captain: , Hampton, Va (210)

Difficult Marina to dock at given the currents and large sports fishermen at the dock. Excellent assistance and guidance from the dock staff. Staff also drove us to to the supermarket and Westmarine and came back and picked us up.

First Class-well maintained, 2014-11-08
Captain: , Maine (639)

Capt Dick Frankenheimer sailed into this marina today from NY, and reports it well maintained, properly managed with everything up to date ...excellant floating docks, deisel fueling dockside at every slip, 50 Amp at every slip 100 amp avaiable at some larget T heads. Transient rate $2.50 foot. The Dockmaster helpful and professional and is aware of, and disputes the prior poor reviews. Capt. Dick is an experianced mariner and can be relied upon for dispassionate sound advise.

Misleading rates. Not worth the $3.00 per foot, 2014-11-05
Captain: , Toronto (30)

Skipper Bob's said it was $2.50 a foot but it turns out that published price the dockmaster explain is only if you buy fuel, but why would we at those prices? The price was actually $3.00 per foot + hydro making it the most expensive dock in North and South Carolina. The last time we paid over $3.00 a foot was in New York and you can not compare Wrightsville Beach with New York City. I was woken up at 4:50am which with the sound for the bridge opening. Guess that was why the dock was empty when everyone else was full. Back to Seapath Marina and I will book earlier next time.

Pump out not functioning?, 2014-10-24
Captain: , Solomons, MD (195)

We called in and were told the pump out was not operational. Too bad because it looked like a great place to stop and 'freshen up'.

Overripe, repeat Overripe, 2014-10-23
Captain: , Isle of Palms, SC (311)

We stayed here on way North. Now going South, we've learned our lesson.
Expensive, but....
-Perfect location
-Nice floating piers.
- TV cable inop. When reported 2 months ago, we were told "the dockmaster would be informed". Still doesn't work, but great consistency in that again told "the dockmaster would be informed".
-In slip A6, cleat cleverly placed so that NO boat moored stern-to could place aft line without chafing on the piling. We are 47' and moved so bow hung way beyond end of floating finger, but still couldn't clear the line. We shrugged [one night stay] and decided not to 'inform the dockmaster'.
- Great, strong WiFi signal. But ..... SLOW. wouldn't even start a test. The check-in persion provided the password, but neglected to say which specific SSID to use. I saw SSID "Wrightsville Beach Marina", tried that with password; no go. There are FIVE SSID's all = WBM. I was able to log on to the strongest of these, but, again, slow. Cell data same location [VERIZON LTE] was 10.12 Mbps download.
-Never actually saw the dockmaster.

some training is called for, 2014-07-26
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (935)

First time visit for this delivery captain. There were tow girls working the docks and they did well to get us docked, although they did not seem to understand the use of spring lines to stop movement in a current. Once filled up they pretty much disappeared. Just need some training in customer service to match other quality marinas.
Now.. The next morning is why I will never be back. When ready to leave we finally got the dock hand to come over to help. We discussed line release because I was tight between two boats and this yacht does not move well in a current and wind. As I walked back to the helm, the dock hand had already tossed the lines on the boat and I didn't even have both engines running creating a dangerous situation. His response as I yelled.. Sorry captain. All ended ok but again... Training in procedure and customer service is needed.

Rating is one because I could not give it less, 2014-01-13
Captain: , Earth (232)

Excellent facilities, Dock master and training Dock master were helpful but Travis, the assistant Dock master was rude and made it clear that we did not meet the standards of the yacht club. Many powerboats and only one huge Cat sailboat in slips. Our 28ft sailboat was smaller than most of the powerboats at the dock and that it was clear that it had an effect on the treatment we received.

We were charged an additional night because checkout is 11am and we left early afternoon. @ $2.50 a foot that made for an additional $75 that we paid for about 3 hours of dockage. You also pay $5 for trash and $5 for water and they charge for electricity.

Great restaurant adjacent to marina.

Greart marina, 2013-09-06
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

The marina is part of the Wrightsville Yacht Club. Great dock hands and floating docks. The YC has a pool and the facilities are beautiful. Beach is about 1.5 miles away.

Convenient to Beach and Shopping, 2013-06-30
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (570)

We arrived at the marina around mid-tide. Docking at the fuel dock was not too bad with the help of the excellent dockhands, but getting into our slip with significant current and wind was a bit of a challenge. The restaurant at the marina was one of the best we have eaten at on the ICW. The fish was nicely grilled and served with fresh veggies. Both outdoor seating on a large patio and indoor seating are available. We rode our bikes to a well-supplied West Marine and Harris Teeter grocery store about a mile over the bridge. The beach is about 1.5 miles from the marina. Airlee Gardens is also very close by and well worth a visit.

Sailboats stay away, 2013-06-19
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (312)

We attempted to get dockage here for some work on our autopilot by nearby Marine Max. We called 2 weeks ahead, were never told we needed a reservation, and then when we called back they could not (would not?) find room for us. This place is all big power boats and maybe they don't want to be bothered by a sailboat that cannot buy tons of fuel? It is a very attractive place, however, and has a good restaurant adjacent.

October trip south, 2012-11-17
Captain: , Red Bank , NJ (275)

Stayed as a transient over night. Very helpful dock hands, diesel wa $4.249 gallon. Pretty good restraurant as well.

A real community of boaters, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

We have stayed at Wrightsville Beach Marina as a transient and as a long-term renter and the staff, location, amenities, and quality of the marina can't be beat.

Friendly Place, 2012-08-28
Captain: , Aventura, Florida (330)

We had to travel the intercoastal because of weather and called for a spot. The staff was out there waiting for us and gave alot of help. We had engine problems so with the current and storm it was nice to have quick helpful dockhands. There was a resturant on premise but didnt get to enjoy it. We only stayed over night but we will return.

Excellent Stopping Point, 2012-01-26
Captain: , Wrightsville, NC (270)

This an excellent place to take a break. It is surrounded by beautiful boats and wonderful dining. Great local breakfast dive located one block towards beach (Causeway Cafe). Blue Water would be my choice for lunch or dinner. Here I go again rating food!

One of our most wrong place to stop, 2011-12-25
Captain: , Coles Point (50)

We make stop for some repair and it was the most wrongest choice the young dockmaster is arrogant and realy not sympatic , clean marina but wrong people

Nice facility - very pricey, 2011-11-13
Captain: , Central Illinois (497)

Nice location right at bridge on ICW. Helpful staff. Highest dock fees since New York City.

Cartmen Delivery Concierge, 2011-11-08
Captain: , Wilmington (73)

Great place to dock in the middle of dining and bars.

Expensive and Convenient, 2011-11-05
Captain: , Marathon (275)

We stayed because of the weather. We were lucky to come and go at slack tide. Clean restrooms and showers. Florida Keys prices: Expensive.

Perfect Location, 2011-06-21
Captain: , Baddeck, Nova Scotia (160)

Wrightsville Beach Marina is located directly on the ICW with fuel, Ice, courteous staff and "a pool". The beer are ice cold, food is reasonably priced and you won't waste a minute deveiating off the rhumbline.

Watch the Current, 2011-04-06
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (675)

Great place to sttay for an overnight but watch the current coming into the dock. Good restaurants right at hand.

Balanced issues ? Maybe, 2010-12-11
Captain: , Detroit, MI (160)

You can't beat the view, convenience, available post office, restaurants, sports stores, etc.
Pricey, very much so. There's no competition anywhere near here. One of the mens heads is large enough for a handicap stall if a handicapped person could accend the stairs and there is no bars for them. This is at the expense of the stall next to it. The "thin man" would be cramped. The only hooks are in the large shower stalls. The water pressure is so low I had to turn on all four hot water outlets for five minutes before it heated to warm. The pressure was so low it was a little better than a fast drip.
Would I stay here again? None of the other marinas have electricity, pump-outs, fuel, showers, etc. Literally no competition. Yes, I would stay here again.

Great Service but it comes with a price, 2010-11-10
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (728)

Staff was helpful, but the price was a bit steep, and then they charge you to take on water $5.00 and to drop off trash $5.00

Seems with a price this high, they don't need to nickle and dime you for the other stuff.

First Rate, 2010-08-05
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (271)

The marina is first rate, and so is the staff. We stayed for a week, 7/1/2010 thru 7/6/2010. Current is strong but the staff knows how to handle lines so entry/exit is no problem. They have an excellent resturaunt on site and at least a dozen others within walking or dinghy distance. Grocery is a bit of a hike.

Convienent stop, 2010-06-10
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (297)

Very convienent transient dock. Helpful staff but a little pricey to dock here

Great staff and amenities!, 2009-06-16
Captain: , Wrightsville Beach, NC (368)

Sam and Travis take good care of you and your vessel. Great restaurants within walking distance. Pool, showers, laundry facilities. Very strong current.

good news, bad news, 2009-05-26
Captain: , Belhaven, NC (363)

Well, we got fabulous take out seafood at the attached restaurant, but the heads were unavailable due to renovations. Great little breakfast diner across the street. Easy side tie and good dockhands.

PRICEY BUT NICE, 2008-05-31
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (142)

Just prior to Wrightsville Beach Bridge on east side. No wake zone. Cable/Wifi/Pool/Showers/Laundry. Good restaurant next door. Excellent facilities. $2.25/ft 5/30/08. Not much transient space.
