Nice stop if you want to get away, 2016-09-19
Captain: , Seaford, VA (783)

Update 9/18/2016: Dockmaster Woods is a great asset to this underused marina. He made sure that we were well taken care of
The only time it gets many boats are on the weekends for the Tiki Bar. Beautiful, remote area. The pool and restrooms need better housekeeping care, especially after a rowdy group. Large building on site has sat unfinished since 2010, don't know if it will ever be finished before the whole area erodes away--- shoreline has been disappearing over the years.

7/2011 We stopped over July 2011 to check things out. We were the only transient boaters there. Very nice fixed and floating docks.

Tiki bar looks like it would be fun on the weekends.

Bath house was a portable "trailer" type facility. Not fancy, but functional and air conditioned.

Outstanding Service!!!!, 2016-09-06
Captain: , San Francisco (155)

Woods helped us tie-up on a blazing hot day. Good wifi. Nice pool and bar. The crew kept an eye on the boat while we were away for 2 weeks. They allowed us to park our motorhome while transitioning to and from the boat. When we mentioned steamed crabs, no problem, we were feasting that evening at a picnic table. Woods gave us a ride to Gloucester to pick up a rental car. His crew was always available for us. Great diesel price.

On the downside, the restrooms and laundry need some attention in being kept clean and well stocked. The porta-potty trailer (three holes) by the fuel dock was unuseable.

another nice stop, 2016-07-27

65' Failine Squadron. SAFE RETURNS
Nice little hideaway. Dock master Woods did a very nice job tying us up and directions in. We talk 5 ft of water and when we made reservations he told us to come in at high tide. Nice docks. Moveable cleats. Nice pool. We came in on a Saturday and the afternoon was families. Saturday night they had a band. Different for us so we enjoyed the music. Tiki bar was slammed with local peeps and it was nice to meet the locals. The waitress and bartenders did a great job keeping up with the crowed although at dinner time it somewhat emptied out. It really rock on Saturday night. Ok not much other than pool and tiki bar and tiki food but the 4th star went to Woods. Nice young with a can do attitude. Came back several times to our slip to make sure everything was ok. Will try to be back

Great Place for a stop over, 2016-07-19

2nd time we have sayed at Windmill. We all had a great time. We had 4 boats form our marina, a great place for a group is A dock. Woods is a fantastic Dockmaster, willing to stay late, and take care of guests.

Great Marina, Particularly for a Small Group, 2016-07-11
Captain: , Occoquan, VA (370)

Our 2nd visit in the last two years confirms this is a Great, little known marina with very easy access off the Bay. Woods is an EXCELLENT dock master and is willing to do whatever it takes to make your visit/experience enjoyable. Fantastic location on A-dock for a small group as you're close to the pool, bar, and have a little beach behind your boat about 20 yards away. Also, great views from this location; like an ocean-front condo. Unfortunately, the pool area has declined since our last vist, but all-in-all, a great location/marina/staff.

A Surprse!, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Goose Creek (70)

Better than expected. New fuel tanks, new fixed docks, nicely redone outside bar (tiki hut), courtesy car, great bathrooms, free laundry.
If you draw more than 5.5 ft, enter/exit at mid-tide or better.

A jem at the mouth of Rappanock River, 2016-05-07
Captain: , delaware city, DE (80)

We had left port at Coinjock, NC on a cold, overcast and misty rainy day heading North. LONG day!!! Wanted something not TOO far into the riverways off the Cheasapeake and found Windmill Point Marina. I placed a call and Woods answered with a jovial and welcoming "Hello!". We were met at the bulkhead just as the sun was setting and assisted on the tie up by Woods. "we are closed on Tuesday, but we can accomodate your needs!!" Nice!!. This is a newly renovated jem that I would happily return to and recommend to any other boaters that we know. Great accomodations for showers, laundry, a pool and Tiki Bar and band stand for entertainment. We will have to come back during the season to partake in festivities! Thank you Woods for being open on your closed day!!! Virginia and Frank "Phoenix"

Will be going back, 2015-08-25

Really liked this one. People are great. Facilities are great. Very shelterd and clean. only down side is that the tiki bar draws a very "rough" crowd.

Beautiful secluded resort marina 2014 May and 2015 June 29, 2015-07-01
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

Call ahead for Jan or George to be on the lookout for you. This is a quite place during the week and off season, but the Pelican Bar & Grille is open on Friday's, Saturaday's and Sunday's. They sometimes have live bands on the weekends. The facilities are beautiful and the people are extremely cordial. The entrance is well marked, follow the nautical charts and markers. We read an 8 foot depth and they are dredge for 6 foot on low tide. Watch for a sunken vessel on the way in and avoid the wreck . . . go slow and keep a good lookout.

Nice facilities, 2015-06-26
Captain: , Yorktown (83)

I arrived in early Mar bring a 28 Beneteau from the Potomach down to Hampton. I arrived late in the eveing and couldnt make contact with anyone. The facilities are very nice, the resterant and bar weren't open and the marina itself was minimally manned this time of the year. Once I established contact with the management they were very helpful and cooperative.

Needs Improvement But Has Potential, 2015-06-10
Captain: , Urbanna, VA (44)

We dropped by this past weekend. The channel is a bit shallow but we had no problem. The marina is in a great location but it appears the project was abandoned at about 75% completion. Services were minimal but the bathrooms were clean and the pool appeared well kept. The view is incredible.

There was an older, crabby couple riding around on a golf cart. They appeared to have come from the condominiums adjacent to the marina. The mans behavior and mental stability was questionable and his mere presence was not good for the marina environment. The management should address this problem before he runs their few slip holders away.

Hopefully things will improve in the future.

Times have changed, 2015-06-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (20)

We have been coming to Windmill Point for many years. With the changes in management, the services have varied. The constant, in recent years, has been the dockmaster George. He is extremely helpful and always accomodating.

We tried to buy fuel but were told they didn't have enough for our boat. Who wants the last 50 gallons in the tank? We asked about pump out but were told that it was out of service. As a full service marina, clearly it is lacking. Friends warned us of the recent change in management but we didn't believe that the people from York River would ever turn up anywhere else in the state of VA. We were wrong!

The tiki bar is fun and the only reason to go there. Call ahead and have George meet you at the bulkhead to avoid the marina management.

A Lady in Waiting, 2015-06-02
Captain: , Kings Creek Marina (736)

Some of us remember Windmill Point Marina back in the 60%u2019s. It was the hot spot on the Potomac. It has fallen into disrepair in the last decades, and now is only a fond memory of what it used to be.
There are unfinished buildings, under roof but with elevators still in their shipping containers. Fantastic heavy duty commercial stainless steel kitchen equipment left out in the rain. All the floating docks, victims of Hurricane Isabell and Super Storm Sandy, are stacked up in a pile at the back of the property. Some effort has been made to renew the docks and bulkheads, but only near the Harbormaster%u2019s office.
Approach is a hold-your-breath event. Depth alarms, set for five feet, going off left and right. Approach at high tide. A hard left turn to the Harbormaster%u2019s office, and the best of Windmill Point Marina is at hand. George, the Harbormaster, is the kindest and most helpful man on the Potomac. He, and he alone, is why we go to Windmill Point.
The bathrooms and showers are immaculate, as are the laundry facilities. The large swimming pool is clean and well maintained. There is a Tiki Bar that livens up the place on the weekends. A large game room, and cable TV in the lounge. Mid-weak has the precious commodity of quiet.
Windmill Point Marina is truly a Lady, waiting%u2026

Captain: , Gloucester, VA (694)

While the facilities are as stated by prior visitors and the staff were polite and attentive, the afterdark crowd of mostly locals are loud and rowdy.

When the DJ shut down at 00:00hrs. as required by local noise ordinance, the patrons became unruely to the point of fights braking out which began to spread over into the marina area.

The facility took a big hit during Hurricane Isabel and I'm certain that the investors are struggling to pull it all back together. If they don't address THIS problem the rowdies are gonna be the only customers they'll have and THEY won't generate enough revenue to justify what's been poured into the marina facilities as they stand much less any future improvements.

Nice marrina, 2014-09-17
Captain: , Virginia (50)

It is a little shallow getting in in some spots, but plenty of water at the docks. George, the dockmaster, is very accomodating. About seven miles to the nearest facilities by road.

Nice Marina, 2014-08-11
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (10)

Been there twice in the past two years. in 8/2012 it was just re-opening so the pool was barely working and the Tiki Bar was not open yet. Staff was very nice though, the docks are fantastic, showers/bathrooms are very clean and inviting. Hit it again last week 8/2014 - unfortunately the pool was out of commission due to an algae bloom and the management was slow to react. Diesel pump was also not working so luckily we didn't really need the fuel. It is closed on Mon and Tues but if you call the after hours cell no. for Geroge we will take care of you. We just pulled into an open slip on a Tues and called George - he let us know where the deeper water was and we relocated. We draw 5.5' so we entered and left at high tide and were fine - could probably have gone a few hours before or after HT and have been OK. The beach is small but nice enough. The Tiki bar was open this time and had good drinks and basic bar food which was tasty. Overall pretty good - would be nicer to see the owners take a bigger itnerest in the place - but then again it is small and probably not a lot of cash coming in (but apparently the bar gets hopping on the weekend during summer).

Stopped by based on reviews and found to be deserted, a couple of boats in slips but nothing else. Tried calling on phone several times with no answer, left message with no call back.

Windmill Point Marina, 2013-09-30
Captain: , Sandwich (692)

After Labor Day there is no one in this marina. We stayed one night. Shower/bath clean. The grounds are well maintained. There is a pool and outdoor bar/restaurant open during summer months. Dock facilities new. Best to come during the summer for activity. Closest town 7-10 miles.

Very nice & quiet marina. Excellent facilities and sparkling clean. Kerry , the Harbormaster, is very personable and helpful. Highly recommend a stay here!

An undiscovered gem, 2012-08-25
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

The Windmill Point Marina is located just inside the mouth of the Rappahanock River, making for an easy in and out. While still being upgraded, this marina is beautiful. The staff are great. The whole marina has the look and feel of being new. The finger piers are state of the art, the fuel dock is easy to get to. The marina office is charming, complete with a Captain's lounge where we can relax. watch some TV or just have a nice place to carry on a conversation. The heads are spotless. There is a Tiki bar on site that is currently not open; it is in search of a proprietor. It is apparent the owners (new as of this past February) are sinking a lot of capital into this marina. When it is complete, it has the makings of being a first rate resort marina. The negatives are the approach is pretty shallow and there is nothing nearby within walking distance. With some bad weather in the forcast, we may be here a day longer than we planned. No problem though. The dockmaster offered to drive us to town if we needed to get anything

Potentially Great Marina with easy access from the Bay, 2011-11-18
Captain: , Hampton, VA (2502)

We've stayed here a number of times in the past 30 years and have enjoyed ourselves every time.

Everything has changed in the past 10 years and this is essentially a brand new facility. Everything old was ripped out and carted off.

having survived a number of mis-starts with rising above mismanaged resort building, Windmill Point is now past the point of failure and is a great spot if you don't want to anchor out....

Nice marina, 2011-10-09
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

This is the 3rd time we've stayed here. Each time, they get a little better. The place is a work in progress - but the people are wonderful. The docks are new and there is a great pool and tiki bar.

Windmill still turning, 2011-08-12
Captain: , Yorktown, VA (79)

We visited mid-week in mid-August 2011, and may have been the only visiting boat. We arrvied at dusk, and found our assigned slip using the internet marina map; had a nice fixed dock slip near the entrance. Slips, power, water in excellent shape. Pool was being well-maintained, but it is right by tiki-bar. The staff was helpful, and stated they are scheduled to move their office and bath facilities into a perrmanent building next month.

The MLW of 5.5 is probably accurate, we came in near high tide, and our 5.5. keel cleared easily. The dredged area seems to dog leg to the West, as shown on our plotter, and by the spit of deeper water. Fishtraps to the sides, and jetties right by last marks are where you would expect, but didn't pose any issues. Easy to visit!

Getting Better!, 2011-07-05
Captain: , Fishing Bay VA (335)

After reading the reviews I was a bit sceptical, but we docked n dined on July 3rd and found it to be a nice experience. The floating docks we were assigned (41' is our length) were new and nice. Shore power is not normally given for dock n dine customers for the $10 parking fee. Because it was the 4th of July weekend we found a cover charge for the bands playing, $10 entry for all crew members. The kids played in the pool for a bit, and the adults enjoyed some drinks, the captain was on diet coke as the local police cruised this marina about 7 times in the few hours we were there, for good reason if you follow the local news concnering boat accidents. The entrance is narrow and follow the center of the markers, it's shallow. There is a good current running through so take that into account when docking. The bands playing were actually really good, the food was good for pub style menu, BTW the Tiki Burger is HOT, but good! There is no indoor dining outside only. Id stop again with freinds especially if I could stay the night and enjoy a few drinks. Would like to see better bathroom facilities and even an indoor seating area where you can cool off in the heat. Its the right idea and feels like FL more than VA, hope they can make it work.

Fleetes Harbor, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Stingray Harbour (386)

Nice new facilities. Channel dredged saw a minimum of 6' at low tide. Great white sand beach. Tiki hut with food/drink open T-Sun. Band on Sat nights, music other times. Food was great, out of alot on Sunday we visited, because of 300 person crowd on Sat night. Started enforcing the $10 fee for a short stay. Kind of rubs me wrong after a season without it. No permanent head facilities, fancy portapotties with showers. No A/C, shower early in the day or chance coming out sweater than when you went in. Update on $10 fee. Dockmates have said that the tiki bar will refund the fee if you buy a certain amount of definitive answer on how much, have heard a couple answers; one entree and over $15.

Listed phone number now current, 2011-05-30
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

Our yacht club stayed here for one of our summer cruises. The members who stayed here gave it very favorable reviews. We hope to stay here on our way home from Baltimore in the next day or two. We will update our review if and when we stay here.

Our updated review is as follows: We stayed here this Memorial Day Weekend with our yacht clubs first cruise of the year. As has been previously reviewed the facility is in serious financial difficulty. Our cruise chairman was in constant contact the past two weeks prior to May 27, 2011 since the bank owner had to find new management. The boat docking facilities are very good. The dock hands are very inexperienced. And looking for a tip. The Tiki Bar is loud and attended primarily by local residents. A cover charge may or may not be charged to those renting slips. One of our members negotiated a reduced cover charge for slip renters. The Tiki Bar does serve some food but, primarily alchohol and loud music until about 2 AM on weekends. The crowds can become very roudy but, not dangerous or abusive. The rate this weekend was $1.50 per foot plus $6 per cord for electricity. Quite reasonable but for the fact the the restrooms were TERRIBLE. We had over thirty boats from our club plus many other slip renters. There were three portable toilet/shower combinations in a single trailer. When I bring my own room to a facility I EXPECT clean and sufficient toilet/bathing facilities. I know I have these facilities on my own boat but, when I pay $60 per night for a hole in the water I expect more than a porta john. There are no other restaurants within walking distance than the Tiki Bar. We will NOT stay here again unless the facilities improve significantly.

Hope this marina makes it., 2011-05-17
Captain: , Smith Mountain Lake, VA (266)

Stayed here the second week of May, 2011. The marina is barely operating in temporary facilities and is in foreclosure. The harbor and docks are super and it is a great spot just off of the Bay.Tiki Bar is open and seems like it is doing well. I hope someone buys the property; it could be a wonderful marina!

Good Tiki Bar. Bank foreclosed January 2011. New sign in White Stone says the tiki bar will reopen in April 2011
