Reviews for Whittaker Pointe Marina
One of the best marinas on the East Coast, 2017-08-19
Captain: , Hampton NH (70)

What more to be said about this jewel of a marina?
Probabaly the prettiest setting on the ICW and certainly the most spectacular view from the clubhouse deck. Oustanding Harbormaster Robert Allen who makes every effort to make the transient feel welcome. Superb facitilities, more of a yacht club feel than a marina. Total honor system (isn't that refreshing), fast reliable WiFi throughout (also refreshing), and on top of all that, the lowest slip charges in the area.
Only detraction - too far to walk into town if you don't want to take the 5 minute dinghy ride, but more than made up for by the free loaner van for access to restaurants and major shopping.
I've been by here many times and my regret it.

Update May 31, 2017. After six months before heading back north, nothing more to add. If you're stopping off in Oriental, you do yourself a favor transiting here.

A Great Stop!, 2017-07-25
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, Florida (20)

We have anchored in this area many times but this is the first time we stopped at a marina. We picked a good one with great services and a text message showing the dock layout so we knew exactly where to go when we got here. Never had that happen before. A great added service. Will be back.

Great stop!, 2017-07-02
Captain: , Chicago (660)

We did a run from Beaufort up to Whittaker Point. We never made it into Oriental but the marina owner gave us the Keys to the courtesy car and suggestions of where to go. We stayed two nights waiting out crazy wind and storms. We knew we may rock some with the wind direction but it wasn't too bad. Pool great for our kids. Courtesy car easy for groceries and no time one else needed it so he told us to keep it however long we needed. Couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

Too bad..., 2017-06-27
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

Entrance is not to be done first time in the dark, but just keep to the red side and plenty of water---we draw 6', and never saw less than 8' even with a moderate S wind (which lowers water level here; wind tides prevail here.) Update: Well, we wanted to come here, but after being told that the price for one month would be more than DOUBLE what it was 2 years ago, that was adequate incentive to look elsewhere. Most businesses realize how much cheaper it is to keep an existing customer than to find a new one, but apparently not here.

Easy place to stop., 2017-06-19
Captain: , Falmouth, Maine (176)

This is a very good place to pull into for the night when you are making tracks on the ICW. Good place to walk the dogs and a car to go to the grocery store. We took the car into Oriental to get fresh shrimp and froze half of what we bought. Best shripm ever at a low price.

Why doesn't every marina do this?, 2017-06-05
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (671)

Right after you make your reservation, they send you a text with images of the dock plan, and building you should sight on as you come down the channel. And they tell you where you'll be staying, so you can form a plan for how you'll dock. They include the wifi password and the bathroom code, too. So everything you'll need to know is in one place, ahead of time.

The dock house is clean, the bathrooms are spacoius, and the staff is helpful and friendly. This is our third stay and we will be back for more.

Most underrated marina!, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Kemah (130)

Great place, clean, quiet, friendly dockmaster. Definitely come back here. Only negative experience was some a..holes from the repair yard across the water actually sped up whern they crossed us while being tied to the dock. Couldn't believe they were going at full speed some 20 ft from us (while 'testing' a big trawler) and another boat that was moored next to us. Needless to say, stay away from this yard for any repair work. This does not reflect on Whittaker marina just don't get me wrong but this was definitely a first for us.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

After reading all the 5 star ratings I decided to stop here to ride out a blow. Every thing all the reviews say are true. The docks are very good, the restrooms are spotless, the loaner car is very good, and the lounge is extremely nice. So, how come the place is almost empty? The one flaw is the protection from the weather. In a south wind there is no place to hide. Unfortunate, but if this marina had some protection it would be really first class and probably full.

Fabulous Marina, 2017-04-21
Captain: , Annapolis (170)

Beautiful marina just off the ICW and although not in walking distance to Oriental there is a FREE loaner van. We had a positive provisioning experience at the Food Lion about 12 miles away and a delicious dinner in town at the restaurant next to the Tiki Bar. The dock master, Robert is a gracious host and excellent communicator. The clubhouse is spotless, the bathrooms are immaculate and the laundry facilities are excellent. We will definitely return!

Great marina with personalized service, 2016-06-25
Captain: , New Buffalo, Michigan (780)

Stayed here 3 nights to wait out some weather. We were in the outside slip across from the house boat and out boat did rock with the northerly winds. Henry, the owner caught out lines and gave us the low down on everything. Great club house( we had no issues with cleaniness like prior review). We were the only transients there so the courtesy car was like our own car. We filled it with gas and gave Henry $ 20 for an oiil change. The people in the marina were great( there arent many of them) and will come back in a heart beat. Oriental doesnt have much in the downtown to offer but they are getting a grocery store finally.

Maintenance Lacking, Uncomfortable in SW Winds, 2016-06-12
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

We stayed here for almost a month, to take care of some local business. The monthly rate was $300 for our 33' sloop, with electric included. Patricia was the dockmaster when we arrived in early May and she put us in a slip with our stern toward the open fetch to the SW. The monthly rate for our 33' sloop was $300, ith electric included. After 2 rather unquiet nights, we turned the boat around to face the incoming waves, which were significant when the wind went SW, with open fetch to Adams Creek. The wave attenuator was only modetrately effective, and the waves that got through it bounced off the bulkheaded shoreline by the clubhouse and came back out. During late May and early June, SW wind became more frequent as summer patterns set in. Nights were often unpleasantly bouncy in our slip.
Maintenance in the baths was, at best, not frequent during our first 10 days or so, while Patricia was busy getting ready to leave for the summer. When she left, she was replaced by Robert, who was friendly, pleasant and often occupied with some building maintenance and improvements. He cheerfully kept an eye on our boat when we were away. However, little attention was paid to the bath facilities during our last two weeks. No cleaning there seemed to have been done during the second half of our stay, other than replacement of paper supplies as needed. With very little transient traffic in the marina and light use of the facilities, it was not a major issue, but not a plus. A dead cockroack remained by the men's bath entrance for our last five days there. Finally, our last night there was unacceptably rough, and we left four days early to go to elsewhere .
Overall, the facilities are good, and before the summer southwesterlies set in this could be a good choice, provided they keep up maintenance of their very nice facilities. The loaner car makes the quiet, out-of-town setting OK. With something done to deal with the open SW exposure, this would be an excellent stop.

Great updated Marina, 2016-06-03
Captain: , Ennismore (50)

Great stop! Courtesy car, great docks. Patricia knew we were coming in and watched for us and hailed us on the radio as we approached. She had 3 others on the dock to help us come in on a very windy day. A must stop when we return

Really A Great Place!, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Colchester VT (380)

Whittaker Pointe is a great stop. The docks are sturdy and look new. The staff could not be more accomodating or friendly. Patricia (the dockmaster) is wonderful. The club house looks like it is brand new and has the nicest showers of any we have been to anywhere up and down the ICW!!! The price is great. We would loved to have stayed an extra night because of some nasty thunderstorms moving through but a southwest wind piped up and we were concerned that it was going to be too rough on the outside face dock (where we were) because the marina is open to the SW. There is no breakwater to protect against that direction. The marina is great from any other direction. As it turned out, we probably could have stayed as the wind died down by afternoon. But there were some wild thunderstorms that rolled through. The scenary from their upper deck on the club house is magnificent.

Beautiful facility, 2016-04-22
Captain: , Woodmere, NY (20)

Very nice. Reasonably priced and providing facilities I have seen in much pricier places.

Good Stopover, 2016-01-17
Captain: , Colorado (411)

Have stayed at this marina twice (once a year ago and again on 1/15). Marina has fixed docks in good condition, except for the "bird decorations". Facility building/bathhouse is well kept and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Courtesy car is available to provision in nearby Oriental. Limited space for catamarans, but face dock space should be able to handle most boats. Entrance channel is narrow with shoaling requiring an extra floating green marker so favor the red side for better water (about 7 foot when we passed by - no tides except wind driven). Winds from the southeast will drive waves into the marina from across a long fetch, otherwise reasonably protected. Prices a bit better than the average for the area.

This place earns its 5stars, 2015-11-22
Captain: , Chesapeake City, MD (530)

Patricia and Dan greeted us at the slip. Patricia, a very knowledgable sailor, took our midship spring line without any discussion and we softly powered on it to pull snug against the finger pier. Friends had recommended WPM to us 3 years ago and it appears to remain well maintained and cared for. The docks are first class with LARGE pilings. We knew our way in Whittaker Creek Channel and found 7.4-8.5 running right down the Reds. We use this creek every time we've passed thru for 15+ years as a harbor of refuge. Very short dinghy run to Oriental along the shore.

wonderful three day stay, 2015-11-13
Captain: , Lunenburg Nova Scotia (41)

We arrived without a reservation and were greeted at the dock by Patricia who had talked us in on the VHF. Our stay was without problems with very clean facility's and good laundry. We utilized the courtesy vehicle to reprovision and go out to dinner. We plan to return on our northbound trip and Maybe stay for a month.

Beautiful facility, worth a visit, 2015-10-26
Captain: , Long Island, NY (204)

Very nice clubhouse, clean docks. Helpful dockmaster. Loaner car. Not within walking distance to Oriental, but loaner car gets you there. Honor system laundry room. A very worthwhile place to spend a few quiet days to catch up.

A pleasant place to stop, 2015-07-19
Captain: , Lakeland (997)

We raced the weather and docked just before squalls hit in late June. Our 42' catamaran was tied to a face dock and we were bounced around quite a bit until the wind (from the south) calmed. After the storm, it was wonderful, though. The entry is very shallow (we have 4'3" draft), so be careful. The marina is beautiful. The facilities are first rate. The pool was great. We used the courtesy car several times. The price was right. Definitely a good place to hang out for a few days.

Excellent Marina, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1025)

2015: While we agree with most of what has been said (and what we said earlier), we are a bit surprised that nobody has pointed out that boats in the marina are exposed to weather from the south. And the fetch is the entire width of the Neuse. It can get bad. One of the nights we were in the marina the wind and waves were so bad, I could not sleep in our aft cabin because of the slamming of the waves against the swim platform. Another boat in the marina had the same problem. So, be careful if the weather predictions are from the south.

e only stayed one night, but were impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities, the attitude of the staff and the availability of the courtesy car. It is a ways from downtown Oriental, but the courtesy car mitigates that problem. It is a bit shallow on the way in, so make sure you ask the dockmaster for directions.

A fine facility with excellent dockmaster, 2014-11-22
Captain: , Annapolis (560)

We left our boat here for 10 days to drive back home to Maryland. My wife left her meds aboard. Dockmaster Ashley was kind enough to overnight them to us. A true life saver. We will be back. In addition to the courtesy car, Enterprise in New Bern will come and pick you up if you wish to rent a car. Nice new docs and friendly liveaboards as well. Lounge and bathrooms are excellent. It's also a great view from the marina.

a value added marina, 2014-11-08
Captain: , cruising (671)

We enjoy coming to Whittaker Point Marina. Docks are not floating but newer and excellent condition. Dockmaster Ashley is friendly and knowledgeable. Farther from town than other Oriental marinas but with a courtesy van, steps to a restaurant is the same. We enjoyed a potluck with 3 other boats in their nice lounge. Our women rave about the restrooms. Winds were SW 13 knots and building and we never saw less than 6.5' coming in, we hugged the reds as suggested.

Best place on the East Coast so far!, 2014-10-28
Captain: , Southport, NC (523)

This place is very nice. Private clean bathrooms. Honor system laundry. $1 each for wash and dry. Clubhouse is beautifual and the sunset view is spectacular. You can use the courtesy care for 2 hours, just replace the gas you used. Liquor store 10 minutes away. Groceries are close in Orienatal. Several groceries and marine stores to choose from. Block and cubed ice for sale. $2 for cubes, $2.50 for block.

This is a great marina, 2014-10-14
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

I stopped here a sencond time Oct. 2014 and it is still one of the best marinas I have ever used. This Marina feels all new and has good docks, areally nice heads and showers, free laundry, captains lounge, gas grill and a courtesy car you can use to access anything in town. The owner and dockmaster are very friendly and helpful as well as the other boaters who are there as permannent residents. The only downside is they don't sell fuel.

You will not find a nicer group of people, 2014-09-14
Captain: , Raleigh N.C. (20)

I was on my way from Morehead with tough winds and high waves we had our engine running nearly full throttle barely making any headway when my wife radioed for a slip. The dock master as well as one of the long term slip holders came to my aid to help me dock. This was my first time docking a sail boat and for that matter any boat of this size. They were very helpful getting me into the slip and tied up properly. We had to leave the boat for about a week until the weather calmed down however they kept an eye on her until we returned. I am very greatful for there help and hospitality!

Great staff, 2014-06-10
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (849)

We needed to stop in a marina in the Oriental area and chose Whittaker Pointe. It was starting to get really rough and bringing out boat in to the dock was a challenge for the Captain. The Dockhand and two other people were there to take our lines and did a beautiful job of getting us tied up. Since the weather was bad, we did not take advantage of the other amenities available. Would definitely stop there again.

We stayed a Month, 2014-06-09
Captain: , Cruising (112)

Excellent Marina but a bit windy from the South West. Dock Master Butch Didion was very helpfull directing us in and handling our lines. We came in in a South West wind and never saw less than one foot under our keel with our 5' draft. Butch said to scrape the paint off the red markers coming in. This is one of the cleanest marinas we have ever visited, and a complimentary coutesy van is offered. The view was beautiful, and much better than being in town. A pool is also available. We will return. The dockage rates are fantastic.

great marina, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (290)

new facilities, great club house, spotless rest rooms and showers, super friendly staff. the marina is fairly exposed to the SW prevailing wind, great with gentle breezes but has a surge with strong winds from SW. free wifi, loner car. this is a much better location than in town.

Very nice stopping spot, 2013-11-30
Captain: , Narragansett RI (234)

Came here in a serious blow, Ashley was great in assisting us, talked us in on the phone (stay well to the right of the center of the marked channel), and was very gracious to us. He made a few phone calls to help us find a nice Thanksgiving dinner, and made us right at home. Spent three days here and would come back. Great spot for a dog to walk and run, better than any of the downtown marinas. Head are a long way away, due to the long docks, but the clubhouse is gorgeous, and there's a great book exchange library there as well. We will be back.

Excellent Marina with a Yacht Club Feel, 2013-11-25
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

This place has just about everthing - pool, laundry, excellent bathhouse, clean common areas, great staff, first rate docks, courtesty car. The only thing it is lacking is easy access to pubs, grocieries, etc. The courtesy car goes a long way to making up for this deficiency. If you aren't worried about access to local amenties, this place has it all.

Excellent Choice...BUT, 2013-11-16
Captain: , Sodus Bay, NY (505)

BRAND New, however, Too wide open, no protection from wind

best marina since we left CT, 2013-10-29
Captain: , westbrook, ct (30)

this marina was by far the most welcoming one we have stayed at since leaving CT. the staff was friendly, the bathrooms were outstandiing and there was even a courtsey car we took into town for dinner. fishing tips and a map of the area were included as well!

nice spot to stop, 2013-10-29
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

All the reviews say it all. A very nice place with excellent facilities. Butch is a great Dockmaster and very accommodating. It is a bit of a walk to the very clean bathrooms, laundry, clubhouse and gas grills. Also a bit of a distance to town, but not to worry, they have a courtesy car. We ate dinner at M&M's, very casual, but good food for the money. The Bean coffee shop is the local hangout. It is right across from the town docks. I gave it 4 stars just because of the distance to the facilities, but you can't have everything! I would take the walk over lesser facilities.

Country Club Setting, 2013-10-27
Captain: , Mamaroneck (20)

Beautiful marina with clean, excellent docks. Awesome clubhouse and showers with a spa-like feeling. Gorgeous views of the ICW. Shallow water in channel. Stay close to reds for best depth. Courtesy car available for trips to West Marine, grocery shopping and downtown Oriental. Room for 4 boats on easy access face dock.

Perfect stop for Oriental, 2013-10-05
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

We have stayed in Oriental before, and further north up the Neuse River, but this is by far the best place we have found. Ashley the Dockmaster met us at the T-head and helped us tie our lines, etc. He was very nice and helpful. The docks are clean and the clubhouse is beautiful. Bathrooms, et all, were very clean. Even in October people were using the swimming pool.

The rate is only $1.00 for Loopers, plus they have a courtesy car to run into Oriental for groceries, West Marine, or to eat at M and M's. What more could you want?

Very nice. Modern. Clean (update), 2013-09-19
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

update - Stayed here again heading south. Still awesome.
This is a very nice marina with great facilities. Awesome clubhouse. Very good docks. All other reviews cover it well. Note that there was resistance on their part to breaking out and using the pump out cart. Referred us to the next marina up to do a pump out. Went and checked that out but I didnt like the set up.
Very picturesque. Quiet. Good protection from the NW, NNW,
N, NE, E and ESE. Not so much from the other points.
Oriental NC - Ok, I will be a bit of a contrarian. Nice small town with the most basic services. We went into town and had a great lunch at M and Ms restuarant...Amelia is awesome. Very friendly folks at West Marine. Note that it is an express store, not a bigger box store. There have been other stops coming up from Florida that are better. I'm just saying. However I recognize that the season hasn't started yet. It might be different after Memorial Day.
Neuse River is schizophrenic.
Of special note we dinghyed to Sailcraft Marina and asked a kind gentleman where the dingy dock was. He let us tie up to the back of his sailboat and even drove us to West Marine and the grocery store. His name is Rusty and he was awesome!!!!!!
Note the hardware store is not open on Sundays. West and the grocery store were.
Back to the marina. We would absolutely stay here again and longer. We are kind of on a schedule and will need to get a move on. Too bad. Great place to stop and relax.

Wonder Marina, 2013-05-27
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Very picturesque and the facilities are immaculate. Stay to the red markers on approach, but worth the visit. Couertesy car available to get you to where you need for supplies or dinning.

Wonderful serenity, 2013-05-20
Captain: , Hartfield (281)

This is such a lovely marina. The showers and captains lounge are opulent and there is hardly anyone here. We were sorry we were on the move to get home or we might have just rested here.

good marina nice folks, 2013-05-04

Tied up here to leave the boat for a month. Good price, great live aboard group and good loaner car to get to nearby Oriental.

Turn off the fan!, 2013-05-02
Captain: , Charleston, SC (140)

Heading north and found the marina with ease. LISTEN to the dock master, narrow and mis marked entrance. Great time waiting on the wind to back down. Captain Ashley was very gracious with local knowledge. Courtesy van makes getting to town easy. West marine, grocery, super hardware store, Sea shanty just opened in March 13, nice bar, help and food. M&M is a must. Very clean marina and solid concrete docks.

Good Stop on The Pamlico Sound, 2013-04-19
Captain: , New Bern, NC (10)

We chose to stay here as opposed to entering Oriental. We were pleasantly surprised. The entrance channel has shoaled and 5ft readings were common. The facilities were in good order and the showers and clubhouse were immaculant. We berthed on a T head as the wind was SE, but a SW breeze would make it pretty bumpy. Marina personnel indicated if such weather was to be forcasted, they would move us inside. They do have a "wave attenuator", but its effectiveness is unknown. There is no resturant, but they have a car for running into Oriental.

What a nice place to recuperate!, 2012-11-25
Captain: , Tracys Landing, Maryland (350)

We stayed here after a harrowing night transiting the Pamlico Sound. Very nice facilities and the staff was always friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were very nice and the courtesy car was a no hassle checkout. If you need a nice quiet place to rest this marina is great.

Terrific Marina, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Belleville Ontario Canada (30)

This marina is the best keep secret in Oriental!!!! The staff and facilities are top notch. Washrooms are modern and very clean (thank-you Carol). The clubhouse is very comfortable and great view , it felt like home. Should mention that we weathered Sandy at Whittaker Pointe and we were able to stay in the clubhouse for a few days with fellow boaters. Couldn't have asked for a better arrangement!!!!!!!Dry and comfortable while we were able to keep an eye on our boat.
Courtesy van made it very easy to provision, terrific selection of stores , all within a short ride. Well stocked hardware store in Oriental with very helpful staff, West Marine next door , and marine consignment shop which is well worth the visit.
Ashley (dock master) and Butch are more than friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make your stay on to remember.
Disappointed that we were not able to enjoy the beautiful pool due to weather, too cold even for an Canadian!!!!!
Laundry on site, $1.00 per machine, honor system so you do not have to feed the machines with quarters. Ice machine also on site.
Loved this place, and recommended it to anyone that passes by Oriental, NC.

Welcome to the Hotel Oriental, 2012-11-12
Captain: , Delafield, WI (90)

You can check in any time you like but you may never leave. The people here are great. We were here thru hurricane Sandy. Great facilities for that one. Well protected from the NE thru NW. We stayed after to do work on the boat. Many good resources in the area. The courtesy van is a nice vehicle.

We had fun with the people coming through and the people staying here. Tuesday nights at M&M for music night is a good time. We will stop again if coming through the area. Thanks Ashley.

Captain: , San Francisco, CA (312)

This marina is gorgeous, both the marina itself and the setting. Ashley, the harbormaster is very helpful. The marina office is like a clubhouse where boaters can gather or just relax. The bathroom and shower facilities are equal to a luxury hotel. The docks, which stretch out over a lagoon-like setting are in great condition. Although fixed the fingers are full length and are set higher than most, making getting on and off your boat easier. The only down side is that the marina is remote from the rest of town, although they make up for it by having a complimentary car available for 2 hours at a time. We were here during bad weather so the walk across the pier felt long in the rain and wind. But the view made up for it.

Great Marina, 2012-11-02

What a nice marina! Large, clean facilitles (bathrooms, showers, laundry, pool, clubhouse) It's 2 miles outside Oriental but they have a courtesy van to use for 2 hours, so getting to the grocery, Post Office or West Marine is no problem. Ashley, the manager is also a boat broker, so he knows the area and the area tradesmen and boatyards and is a wonderful help.

We like Whittaker Pt. Marina, 2012-10-27
Captain: , St. Petersberg, FL (24)

Friendly welcoming folks who are helpful. The clubhouse is clean with spotless indiviual showers dressing and toilet facilities. They have a single washer and dryer, a courtesy van and the location is convenient to Oreintal, NC grocery shopping, West Marine and local resturaunts. Docks are fixed and not floating which usually isn't a problem because tides are not an issue but can be a problem with storms and surge if securing for a a tropical storm is a consideration. We have been to Whittaker Point of two occassions and would definely consider it again if in the area. Nearby River Dunes is also nice but they are not as convenient to Oriental Also we had no ATT or Verizon service at River Dunes and had to Skype for phone calls using their wireless internet connection.

Captain: , N Fort Myers, Florida (516)

This is a first class marina. It has fixed cement and wood docks, a pool, the best shower and dressing rooms you can imagine, discounts for AGLCA members, a great dock master and other amenities. The only downside is the marina is in the middle of nowhere, althought they do have a nice courtesy car, and so far, hardly anyone around. The dockmaster did give us his cell phone number with instructions to call him if we needed anything.

Second stop here just like the first. Ashley is great, as is the marina.

We would give this marina an addition star if it weren't for the fcat that in the conditions we were in (winds from SW) that it was bumpy. Also, it is a very long walk to the base of the dock if you are out on the end. Otherwise, the facilities are immaculate and the people refreshing and welcoming. The courtesy car was a major plus as we needed major provisions. You just fill up whatever gas you used.

Love this stop, 2012-06-03
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

This marina is a bit exposed, but very nice, well built and maintained, and spotlessly clean. Butch the dock master bent over backwards to help us out, even loaned us two of his own batter boards just as an extra precaution Courtesy car available and one of the best we've driven. This is our third stop here and we're never disappointed.

Super accomodating, super clean facility, 2012-06-03
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

New fixed concrete/wood docks, good power, water, wi-fi. We wanted to get to church, dockmaster drove down the road to check times. Loaner car made getting groceries easy, otherwise a short dinghy ride over to Oriental or a 5 mile bike ride. Super clean club house with restrooms/showers/laundry/pool. Plenty of grass to walk your dog. Only drawback is exposure to south winds.

Wonderful Stop, 2012-04-30

This marina deserves a five star rating for location and facilities. If you add its picturesque spot to its amenities, it comes up on top for everything. It's a wonderful place to take a break and just rest -maybe throw in a load of laundry or a quick trip to the store in the marina car. But best of all, just relax in the rockers on the porch and enjoy the beautiful view of the ICW and the surrounding creek.Top on my list are the bathrooms. It's just like being in your bathroom at home. You literally have your own personal bathroom and all six are sparkling clean. I think these are the best bathrooms I've seen so far in our 30 + marinas. In the same building as the bathrooms is a large living room with wrap around windows facing the water. Just like the bathrooms, the whole area is neat and clean and the pool is beautifully kept. The staff is friendly and helpful which all adds up to make this marina seem like a home away from home. This is a "must stop" for us.

Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

Nice marina with all the bells and whistles. Newer facility with very accomidating ownership. Agree with previous comments completely. The only downside I found was that it is right on the channel and can get a bit bumpy at times with traffic. Would definitely stay here again. Ashley is a great host.

FIRST-rate, 2012-04-21
Captain: , Monches,wi (330)

Agree with all posts. Pulled in after snagging a crab pot in neuse river. 25kt winds and 4'seas ...never saw it. Ashley had a diver on site 815a the next morning to disconnect.
Would have stayed longer but we were out-running weather to BElhaven.

one word of caution; channel is skinny. Maybe 6' at low.

Excellent Marina!, 2012-04-18
Captain: , Washington, NC (23)

Hardily concur with the other reviews, they don't come much better than this at twice the per foot rate. Ashley and staff couldn't be any friendlier or helpful. A terrific stop for a night or a year! As an update...they do have a pumpout, a portable one.

Excellent Location, 2012-04-11

Beautiful and quiet setting with easy access to ICW. Superb facilities (club house, pool) and friendly, helpful dockmaster. Short dinghy ride to Town Dinghy Dock (or use courtesy car).

Captain: , Plantation. FL (10)

I've spent the past four summers at Whittaker Pointe, and it's my "other home". The facilities are first class, and a courtesy car makes provisioning a breeze. Ashley and Carol Irwin are not just dockmasters, they are true friends who are there to help out in any way. I'll be back again.

A "must stop marina", 2012-02-04
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (122)

We stopped here on a trip once and ended up coming back and slipping here for a year and a half! The facilities are top drawer, the setting is as beautiful as it gets on the ICW and the staff were friendly and helpful...what a GREAT SPOT! Ashely (dockmast) and Carol (his wife) really made it feel like home...thanks again for a great stay and we can't wait to come back! Job well done WPM!

Captain: , Sikeston MO (10)

Whittaker Pointe is an excellent marina in a beautiful location. The outside dock at the clubhouse lined with rocking chairs is a great gathering place at the end of a long day on the water. The facilities are some of the best on the ICW. The availability of the courtesy van is a wonderful plus when needing to provision or just take a trip into town for dinner. If there is no answer to the radio, transients are welcome to tie up to the T-dock and contact the dockmaster by phone. The dockmaster is a former cruiser and understands the needs of fellow boaters. This is an wonderful stop and a must for all passing near Oriental. I have spent three summers at Whittaker Pt Marina and found the staff and other boaters to be wonderfully helpful. They make me feel like I have come home each time I return.

Nice facility, but some drawbacks, 2012-01-10
Captain: , GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL (736)

The clubhouse facility and condition of docks is unquestionably topnotch. Stayed there for a couple months two years ago.
Two caveats. As others have said, the office is not staffed fulltime. More than that, I found Ashley (dockmaster) always seemed to have an excuse for not helping at dock. And he seemed to forge that I prepaid a month, when checkout time came. His lack of consideration extended to the fact that when I looked out to see who was waking the boat, it was Ashley coming in from fishing ;-(
Second, the docks are very exposed to South wind. Lots of rocking and rolling a couple of times.
Otherwise, a good stay.

Will be back!, 2011-12-23

One of the nicest marinas we have docked at! Beautiful front porch with rocking chairs to enjoy the view. Shower/bath house was very clean, all tile. The courtesy car was great to get into Oriental, quaint town with a Saturday farmers market that was fun.. Only downside to marina is the entry is kinda shallow in spots, but worth the extra caution to stay a such a nice place.

The best treatment I've every had, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Smith Mountain Lake (496)

I spent four days gunkholling in the Pamlico (June 23 - 26) and made this place our home base. We were not exactly what they were used to but they welcomed us all the same. I showed up with my 22' sailboat in tow during a thunder storm so we "dry docked" in the parking lot. Used the club house, played cards and the assistant dock master (Buck) looked over the charts with me and told me of all of his favorite gunkholes. And his advice came in very useful. We launched at the city launch the next morning. Buck gave me a ride back to pick up my van and trailor.

We found some wonderful gunkholes and had the best of times.

We popped back into the marina a few times to during our four days out and each time felt like we were at home. The pool is nice, the club house is immaculate and the showers are the nicest I've ever seen.

They have ice (pay on the honor system), courtesy van, bikes, pool ... all clean and newer. We will definitely be back for another adventure. Oriental is an awesome town as well.

Great Marina in Oriental, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Macatawa, Michigan (80)

As others have said this is a really nice place to stop if your plans include Oriental. It's about 2 miles to town but they have a courtesy van. When we were there we were the only transients and were able to use the van to drive in to town for supplies, lunch etc without any need to hurry back.

The showers/bathrooms are cleaner and nicer than almost anyplace we've been. They have a nice looking pool (although we didn't try it because of a late afternoon thunderstorm). The clubhouse is nice but would be great if they added a TV (no cable at the docks).

Getting into the marina was easier than it looked on the chart and we had plenty of water. All in all a very nice marina and the price was $1.25 per foot--a good deal in my opinion.

We stayed here for a week to get the boat cleaned up and found ourselves part of a wonderful family. We were the only transit boater, so we had the marina practically to ourselves until the weekend. We used the couresty car to explore the area and stock up on provisions and cleaning supplies.

There is a West Marine Express a few mile down the road and several excellent restaurants in the area. Our favorite turned out to be Silos - a unique place made from two large grain silos, serving excellent food and a small grocery.

The local grocery is well stocked, but there is a Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly about 10 miles down the road. New Bern is only 35 miles away and they have everything you would ever need.

As everyone else has metioned, the marina staff and locals here are fantastic. Ashley (dockmaster) and Butch (#1 dockhand) are really great and full of wonderful stories and helpful advice.

Good MTOA discounts are iceing on the cake.

This will be one of our must stops.

Previous reviews are accurate. Lots of help to dock in 40 kt winds. Spotless heads and showers. Nice clubhouse. Used courtesy car to eat at M&M Restaurant--Best meal I've had in last 2000 miles of the loop.

Absolutely the best marina so far, 2010-12-10
Captain: , Detroit, MI (160)

This was the best marina on our journey from Detroit to North Carolina. The docks are new, the bath house is so much more with coffee, tea, huge individual shower/bath rooms, a wide deck to sit and just watch the sun rise and sun set. When we arrived we asked about leaving our boat for 2 weeks and were assured that it would be fine there and it was! Everyone at the marina came out to help us dock against the tide and winds and it just got better from there. We were able to use the courtesy van as needed and just felt like we were very welcome. Would definitely recommend this marina.

Great Place to stay!!, 2010-05-29
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Dockmaster Ashley (& wife Carol) will welcome you and try to provide all you need. Reasonable rates (MTOA, BoatUS, etc discounts), great clubhouse, fabulous restrooms, courtesy car, free wifi, sturdy fixed docks, and probably more.
Only downside is that is is a little rolly at times, but not as bad as some we have been in. Not a problem for a short stay, but it probably would bother me for more than a week.

Oriental is a popular stop for cruisers, and this marina is a terrific place to stay. Stay on the range coming in, with depth of 6'. Docks are very nice. The clubhouse is fantastic with some of the nicest shower facilities we have seen. The courtesy van gets you into town easily. There is a heated pool, and the views are wonderful. Best of all, the owners go out of there way to make you feel welcome. All this for $1.25 a foot. Incredible.

The people are friendly, helpful and make you welcome. Large T-heads with easy access are available for transients. Great stop. The prices are right too!
