Reviews for New Whitehall Marina
Great place to stop just before the Lock 12., 2016-10-13
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (130)

We had been anchoring along our way south and this marina was a great place to stop and resupply our water and plug in and get a pump out. $1.50 a foot and pump out was $16...we did not know we could have waited for the free pump if you can wait...Free is always good :)

Great service and ideal location for locks, 2016-10-07

Caring owners and great small town marina. Restaurant and bar on site provides homestyle food and are very accommodating. Floating docks are old but capable and safe.

Disregard "Pathological liar" allegation , 2016-07-09

We stayed at New Whitehall Marina 7/3 - 7/5 and learned what actually happened from Ronnie and Carol, dock master and managers, and Rich, mechanic. Justin was terminated for valid reasons when Lynn, the owner, learned what Justin had done, including changing the wifi code and thus making it unavailable when we were there. Ronnie and Carol did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable, including revising the dockage fee when we told them that Active
Captain lists a discount.
Sadly, the town of Whitehall is struggling, and the marina reflects that, but Lynn is determined to turn things around. The floating docks aren't as stable as you might hope, and shore power pedestals are on the wall above the docks. We connected to a shore power cord that extended down from the pedestal. Water spigots are also on the wall at the top of the ramp, and we elected not to fill our tank because our drinking water hoses would not reach the spigot.
We have a 38' trawler, and it's about the largest boat New Whitehall Marina can handle. Ronnie and Carol will help you tie up and make sure your boat is secure, and they are willing to do anything they can to help.
One plus is free laundry using a new, state of the art washer with a steam option and matching dryer. The bathrooms and showers were clean and functional, with great water pressure.
For now, the on-site restaurant is closed, but Office Grounds, a three block walk away, had great sandwiches and serves breakfast, but not dinner. The museum is also worth a visit.
We sincerely hope that Lynn and his current team will be able to make New Whitehall Marina a 5-star stop.

and manager,

Great Burgers at the OnSite Tavern, 2015-10-20
Captain: , Fairhaven MA (446)

Week of Oct. 11 we launched our cabin Whaler at the marina and Lynn was kind enough to let us leave our rig there for a week. Lynn the new Owner flipped burgers for us in the Tavern and they had just got their liquor license. BTW, Justin the Manager is a very skilled wooden classic boat restorer/builder and they seem to have a thriving Chris Craft/Hacker business on-site.
The Tavern will be open yr round.
For breakfast be sure to walk up to Main St. to the Historic Grounds restaurant in an old bank building. Bottomless coffee is to die for..not Dunkin swill. Had french toast stuffed with banana, peanut butter and maple syrup.

Great people, 2015-09-20

New owner is changing this marina. Customer service (Justin) was great, really good restrooms and clean, clean and clean. Restarant was new with good selections and full bar.

Wonderful new owner and staff, 2015-09-07
Captain: , Staatsburg, NY (10)

After a long day traveling north on the Champlain Canal we reached Whitehall and stopped for fuel at the Whitehall Marina. Justin and his courteous staff helped us get secured to their fuel dock and quickly got us back on our way to our ultimate destination of Burlington VT. Fuel cost BYW is probably the lowest you%u2019ll find on the lake. A short while after leaving the marina while attempting to get up on plane we seemed to have some sort of mechanical difficulty. Engine RPM increased but boat speed did not. We limped back to the marina and Justin and his staff quickly got us secured to their dock. To make a long story short it turned out we had a spun prop. Lynn, the owner, offered to loan us a prop so we could continue our trip. He also offered to send our prop to Precision Propeller in Newburgh NY for rehubbing. He told us when we return from our trip to just take his prop to Precision Propeller and they would return it to him. By now it was getting late in day we decided to spend the night in Whitehall. We had dinner at the onsite restaurant run by Sal. It was fantastic and reasonably priced. The next morning we were on our way thanks to Lynn, Justin and the rest of the team. The prop swap BTW was performed at no charge. These are truly amazing people who deserve and appreciate your business. A MUST STOP if you%u2019re in this area.

A Great Find!, 2015-08-27

Located just before or after Lock 12, this newly owned marina is a must stop! We have visited many marinas, but I can honestly say that the owners of this newly owned marina are out to please. Their hospitality is refreshing and genuine. They have updated the marina. Docks are newly painted, new appliances, clean rest roomsi and a great restaurant! Everything the boater wants. This is obviously a family endeavor with the kids actively involved - very refreshing! You won't be disappointed!

Support these new owners!, 2015-08-20
Captain: , Mallets Bay (80)

Just stopped for water fill, gas and pumpout and glad we did. In addition to the excellent service (including leting us know about a 10 cent gas discount for ActiveCaptain and Boat US members), we were encouraged to try the restaurant. Not only did it serve exceptionally fresh produce and outstanding french fries, my mostly vegetarian partner pronounced her first cheeseburger in a year, "the best ever". And our waitress could not have been more proud of the place if she owned it. We think (and hope) both businesses will be very successful and look forward to our return next year.

Great food !, 2015-08-19

The chicken Marsala and the salad were very good !
We stop on July 26th and came back on August 13th for some more !!

Was pleasantly surprised., 2015-08-19
Captain: , Latham (30)

We weren't sure what to expect after the storms and the dredging knocked out the business at both marinas just past Lock 12 not to mention the free dock just before the lock. Everyone enjoys a free night now and then but the powers that be should support the local businessmen first. They could have held off putting power in there until the marina got back on their feet.
Having said all that we were very happy with the service and condition of the marina. It's obvious that Lynn and Justin are giving it their all. Restauant was great. Lynn was more then accommodating to all our needs. Hopefully by the next time up they will have their liquor license however no one knew what we had in our coffee cups.
You could tell that work is being done, clean bathrooms, office was updated, docks were repaired and some with fresh paint. Power was good and water was available. At $1.50 a foot it's worth it over the free dock. Gas price was $3.49 with a discount for Boat US or Active Captain.
We will stay again. I know I speak for all of us. (Pair of Jeanne's included)

Full Service Marina, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Lake George, NY (40)

Lynn and Justin are so accommodating it was like you are a guest at their home. Nice showers, great food, and excellent hospitality. The neat industrial decor tavern has lunch & dinner choices, pool table, & outside seating etc. The steak, chicken Marsala, and shrimp scampi were all yum!! It is a must stop.
Thank You Lynn and Justin. Pleasurable experience.

Excellent stop - New Owners trying hard to please, 2015-07-09
Captain: , Mashpee, MA (541)

And succeeding!
You won't find a more cordial or accommodating stop on Champlain or at the locks than the one at Whitehall Marina. There were dock hands waiting to meet us. There is a washer and dryer available for free. We expected the usual tired old laundry appliances but found brand new Samsung machines. The restaurant is just getting started but the food was very good and freshly prepared. The showers were clean, fuel, ice and WiFi available. $1.50/ft with 10% off docking for Active Captain members. We'll return on our way back.

Helpful, friendly Marina , 2015-07-08
Captain: , Greenville SC (250)

We needed an alternator rebuild, and Lynn and Justin went out of their way to make sure our needs were met. Showers and bathroom facilities are nice; laundry is free! We were able to drive to pick up groceries with use of one of their cars. The Marina is well protected, and we enjoyed four quiet nights here.

Great place to stop before entering the canal, 2015-07-06

We were welcomed by Justin and received great service. He was very accomodating and ready to provide any service needed.

Best Stop before/after canal, 2015-06-17
Captain: , Huntington, NY (10)

Stopped here while heading south into the canal. What a terrific surprise. This turned out to be the best stop along the route down to NY harbor. I believe in a short time, the new owner (Lynn) is going to really make this a must stop location. Great energy, very accomodating, delicious steak kabobs at the bar! Thank you Lynn and Justin.

now reopened and a great stop, 2015-05-31
Captain: , Holland (270)

this was a great stop. the new owner and the dock master /manager have great attitudes and they run the most welcoming and accommodating marina out of maybe 100 I have stopped at in the last nine months on the loop. I believe that if you call ahead they would have your favorite bourbon on hand. the facilities are clean, there is free laundry and and friendly club. the location is great just north of lock 12 so it is a good stop after running locks all day. the town is just a few blocks away and has a lot of history. a visit to Skene manor (the castle on the hill) is worth the trip for lunch and a free tour.

New Owner - Good Stop, 2015-05-25
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

5-22-15 Hospitality and service have been outstanding. Marina was sold to new owner in March and he and staff are working very hard to get the facility back up to a first class standard. Floating docks in good condition, power, water and Wifi are in good shape. Restaurant and Store not open to general public but Owner Lynn is making every effort to provide refreshments to his marina guests. Town is economically depressed but safe and scenic. We have stayed four days and been very comfortable. Prices are reasonable and they are eager to please their boaters. Kudos to Justin for great assistance dockside. Experienced marina staff always a plus.

Pleasant stop after the Champlain Canal, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Seattle Wa (200)

Under new ownership and Lynn is working hard to get things back in shape including the docks. He and Justin are both super helpful even delivering milk to our boat because we mentioned we needed some. Their restaurant/bar isn't working right now due to NY permitting. They offerred rides and a loaner if we wanted it. The town is very sparse on restaurants too with one cafe being the highlight.

I think my ratings are tougher than some peoples. Here are my rating guidelines - - 1 star - Lousy, skip this one- 2 star - Not terrible but I wouldn't come back- 3 star - Nice, I liked it overall and would return- 4 star - Great experience including facilities, management and setting- 5 star - Spectacular everything (there aren't many of these)

A good place to stop, 2013-08-07
Captain: , Sorel-Tracy (50)

Going northbound, we call 10 minutes before entering lock 12 and left a message; they called back in less than 5 minutes and when we came out of lock 12 they were 3 dockhands waiting for us. 50 amps cable was already in place and they were very helpful.

Cost of diesel is relatively high but a good place to stop before or after the Champlain canal.

The restaurant is worth the stop, 2013-08-03
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

Actually, we stayed at the free dock in town (the admiral is cheap sometimes) but were able to walk to the marina for a ride acrioss the river to the resturant associated with the marina. We had a really great meal at a great price and we will return on our way south in a few weeks.

call while we were in lock 12, when we came out of lock Todd and AJ were waiting for us. once at dock they actually hooked us up to power/water, very helpful. we arrived on sunday not know everything in town is closed. Todd and Leeann who manage the marina open the resturant across the river for 6 peolpe. they took us by pontoon boat, had a full menu and the food was delicious. on return trip we stay here again and we ate at the smokehouse, again food was delicious...all home made. going or coming through the canal, this is one marina you must stay at. Todd and the crew are friendly and great people. they offered us their car to going into town. when we ran out of soda and cigarette's they went to get us some. they also have alot on knowdlege about the lake and places to see.

Very helpful staff, 2013-07-17
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

Staff could not have been more helpful. Helped us in, took our lines, helped with power as well. Marina has some rough edges, but staff more than made up for it. Biggest problem was lack of marina lighting. Reallly good restaurant on site and another across the river, free boat ride over.

Outstanding Marina Staff, 2013-07-16
Captain: , Monticello, IN (110)

Stayed there on our way up the Hudson mid-July. The marina staff was not only helpful around the marina, but they loaned us one of their personal vehicles to run to the far end of town. To top everything off, it was Sunday night and all restaurants were closed, so the staff opened the Finch and Chubb restaurant and we wound up with a really great meal. We will definitely stay there on our return trip.

Stayed 2 days, 2013-07-12
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (919)

Nice, clean marina. Todd and staff are very friendly and help to make sure your stay is enjoyable. We were having AC problems and Todd put us in touch with a technician. Restaurant on site is very good. Finch and Chubb is across the water and Todd will take you over in their boat.

Enjoyed 3 Days, 2013-07-06
Captain: , annapolis (70)

Todd, LeAnn and AJ were all very attentive to their customers. Went way out of their way to get a large boat settled: they moved one of their finger piers to fit it in and get them power.
Green Mountain grocery is a mix between a Farmers Market and a Costco w excellent produce.
Take a tour and lunch at Skeene Mansion.
Ethanol free gas now.
We stayed because we were not in a rush and they had a good wifi signal. Their restaurant Finch and Chubb was superb and you could look across to your boat.
If they do not fix the Erie Canal, we will be back.

Under new management, 2013-06-20
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (366)

The ownership and management of this place changed in the summer of 2012. We stopped there after escaping the various lock closures this June.
Todd, the new manager was extremely helful and accomodating. (I needed to take my wife to a medical facility for treatment and he loaned us his car.) He is in the process of trying to restart the facility. One can order parts and have them delivered the next day.
The bar/restaurant there does great BBQ. The marina also bought Finch & Chubb (which offers fine dining) and you can get taken there by boat or car.

Last Chance Heading South, 2012-08-13
Captain: , Barrington RI (127)

Pretty full service marina at entrance to lock 12. Stopped in for diesel which was crazy expensive at 4.96/gal. At least 70 cents more than any other place we stopped on Hudson or Lake. So only took 80 gallons to get us further south. Was able to pump out and take water and ice before hitting locks. They have a small pool and I think a restaurant. Woman who appeared to be manager was friendly but of little help. Didn't know how to operate the pump out. I managed to figure it out.. But whole town of Whitehall is so run down that it did not look like a place I'd want to spend any time. We were there on a Saturday at about 2pm and the marina and town were like a ghost town.

not much available here, place was flooded and wiped out. owner was still very nice and helpful, no fuel available.

Good service, 2012-06-02
Captain: , Bainbridge Island, WA (343)

This marina and the Lock 12 Marina across the water are now in the hands of the same new owner. I stopped to have my outboard checked, and the mechanic was great--resolved the issue quickly and was very helpful. The one downside, their gas has ethanol, unlike further up the lake where ethanol-free is available much of the time.

After the flood, 2011-06-30
Captain: , charleston (761)

This whole area was flooded recently and we may be the first boat in since the flood. Docks are still being put out for the season. The restuarant is closed since all refrigeration was lost in the flood. The owner/manager/service man is very pleasant and I hope he can recover since this is a very nice spot with good facilities (after the electric is restored to the dock). Wonderful museum in town at Lock 12, but town is really suffering from the economy.

Enjoyed our stay, 2010-07-25
Captain: , New Bern, NC (289)

This marina staff provided very prompt and courteous service as soon as we pulled in. The grounds, restrooms and showers are clean and well kept. We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. The town is suffering from the economic downturn, hopefully this marina can survive.
