Reviews for Westport Marina
Liked it a lot, 2015-10-20
Captain: , Fairhaven MA (446)

Did an overnight 10/14/15. Their restaurant had closed for the season but what a treat to walk up the hill then North for a 1/3 mile to the Hotel Restaurant. Really great local food and terrific menue in the historic Hotel. The marina rest rooms were adequate but certainly not a reason to not stop for an overnight. Larry the son of the owner was full of good seastories of delivery trips he had done in the past.

Pricey, bad service, poor mooring identification, 2015-09-02
Captain: , North Hero (303)

This is not the best place. The mooring identification on the water does not match the identification at the office: resulting in arguments between boats and the marina. If you ask for a repair and you are just visiting, don't expect to get it while you are there except if you stay for many days. I will probably anchor near the marina next time I get there. Sad because it could be a very pleasant place

Time for new owners at this facility, 2015-08-28
Captain: , Lake Champlain (210)

This place is run down. Owner has sucked all the profits out of this business for years, and not reinvested anything in his business. He needs to learn the "law of diminishing returns" for Economics 101.

Was a little disappointed., 2015-08-19
Captain: , Latham (30)

Bathrooms need updating and cleaning! Owners seamed pleasant but we were a little miffed by the $5 per hour charge if we stayed past 11AM. Didn't arrive until Sunday evening at 7, spent money in the store, then had dinner and drinks at the restaurant. All we wanted to do was check out the town a little and be on our way. We understand that policy is policy but on a Monday morning no one was lining up to come in and if they were we would have understood. A little discretion would have been appreciated.
The dinner was so so. Probably would have been more enjoyable if the waitress didn't have an attitude. There was 6 of us having dinner and we were all pleasant and joking with the waitress and tried to make light of her shortness. After a while I finally asked her if she was having a bad day because we were about to. Her attitude seamed to change after that and one of the other waiters who heard us talking about Albany came over and spoke to us for a little while. Something tells me he overheard our conversation about the waitress and intervened.
Overall were not sure if we'd stop back. We'll keep following the comments.

Always a pleasant stop at Westport Marina, 2015-08-05
Captain: , Willsboro Bay Marina (2401)

Owned by the Carroll family for over 33 years, friendly staff ready to help and genuine efforts improvement are made each year.

This is a must stop on your way. Ship Store and Gift shop convenience.

We were greeted by Dillan (very friendly dock hand since 2 years) at the dinghy dock where you must report to the Marina and register for 3$ (which is reasonable)
The Gally Restaurant is great for lunch with a view of the lake.

Great dock workers, 2015-08-03
Captain: , Mallets Bay (80)

Easy entry from north. R/G buoys clearly mark entrance. Despite the heat, a long line of waiting boats and threatening storm clouds, the crew at this marina could not have been friendlier, more helpful or efficient in getting us watered, pumped out ($15), gassed up (at $4.15 a little steeper than our VT home port's $3.79/gal) and pushed off. We'll be back.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1523)

When I pay $2.25 per foot I expect a pretty good marina. Had the per foot charge been $1 I would give this place 4.0 stars.
The plusses: Helpful friendly dock hands. Nice ships/gift store. Restaurants nearby. Small beach nearby.
Negatives: Rest rooms were not clean. Exposed to wind and wakes. The town does not llive up to the hype.
If they would make this place shine it would have some real potential. They seem to be satisfied with charging based on supply and demand while providing poor value.

A nice stop on Champlain, 2015-07-22
Captain: , Seneca Lake NY (313)

The owners and staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
Only weakness is restrooms - adequate but in need of updating.
outside grounds could use pick-up for neatness.

Fell short of potential. , 2014-08-16
Captain: , Rochester, NY (200)

If you don't have a head on your boat, do not stay at the Westport marina. I had high hopes as we docked, the girl helping us was terrific, the waitress at the restaurant, Saphire, was great for lunch, but having to use the public bathrooms was very very disappointing. They were so dirty. Then dinner that night was less than wonderful, food is good and wait staff were doing their best but we waited 20min at our table before anyone came over. They needed more wait staff for sure!!! Has potential to be much better...maybe we caught it on a bad night.

Great spot lots of fun, 2014-08-14
Captain: , Champlain Bridge Marina (20)

Fun on weekends, live bands, special atmospher, with increadable views. Very good food

Top Notch Marina, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Rochester, NY (69)

The problems some of the early reviewers mentioned seemed to have been addressed. We came in with a bit of wind. The dock hands were right there and knew what to do. The Galley restaurant gave us a great meal while a jazz duo played. The ship store is one of the best we've seen.

All good except restrooms, 2014-06-18
Captain: , Plattsburgh, NY (40)

Nice marina, hard to find help sometimes, however the restrooms need severe help. Excellent resturant, wish it opened earlier in the year.

Great stop before the Champlain Canal, 2013-08-19
Captain: , Block Island, NY (50)

Heading back south, we decided to stop here since we had a really bad experience at a marina further south on our way up. We were treated very well by the dock staff who assisted us in to the dock, we walked through a really nice ships store where the woman at the counter was more than pleasant. We had dinner that night at their restaurant which was fantastic. What a great place will return again!!

Captain: , Montreal (329)

why the three stars, here goes!
first the employes and onwers are great, very helpfull and willing to give a hand no matter what, if your looking for a small restaurant to have a fun time, this is the place to be, repair shop if you need fixing.
bathrooms need a little love & cleaning, some spiders here and there but I have seen worse.
there is a private beach, not bad people should controle their dogs if you know what I mean, kids play in this sand.
Gas is 4.99$ a gallon, I found this very expensive.
At night you feel some wakes that could rock your boat, not much protection for that, except tires in the water.

High Water, 2013-07-09
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (570)

The lake levels are currently very high. We were told by someone at the welcome center in town that the lake is at 99% capacity. At the marina the fixed docks are underwater. Looking down through the clear water you will see the cleats. If you sat on the bench on the floating dock your bottom half would be submerged. We spent the night on the floating docks at this small marina with 3 other boats ranging from 36 to 45 ft. The Galley restaurant at the marina was open with seating both inside and out. We enjoyed the fish and chips and clam strips. Reservations are a must.

Engine Mechanic, music, dock or anchor, 2012-07-26
Captain: , Fort Collins, CO (492)

Larry, the mechanic (and owner with wife) seems very knowledgeable and efficient, as we had fuel leak problems that he was able to eventually locate and fix after sweveral tries. He is very good at explaining the issues and locating parts with fast shipping. He was also very fair when he had to refix something and did not charge us for his time. We were able to anchor out, next to the mooring balls and pay $3.00 to dinghy in, use showers, trash, and laundry ($5.50 a load) Restaurant has music a couple of nights, BBQ on Sat, and City Park (next door) has music on Thurs at 7pm - very nice! Nice boutique/marina store.
Short walk up hill to - on left (grocery, beer, wine, movie rental) on right (bakery, deli, grocery)
Staff are the BEST! Drove my husband to a medical clinic and pharmacy. Marina is exposed to fetch from N,S,E, and can get quite wicked on the wall, (thus the 4 star) but they will try to tie you up on a floating dock if possible. Can tie up for lunch, dinner, shopping at their store., otherwise $5.00 per hour, unless overnighting. Beautiful part of the lake.

quiet and nice, 2012-06-27

nice little marina, people are very helpful and attending. We anchored for a few nights in a bay north of them and took our dink over a few times for supplies, Would definatly stay in the future.

Very disappointed, 2011-08-27
Captain: , Solomons, MD (60)

We have stopped here in the past and always enjoyed our visit. Sadly, this time we left with a bad taste.

In nine years of living aboard full time, this was the first marina that charged us to RECEIVE our mail. When we made our reservation, we asked if we could have several small (very small) packages shipped to us c/o the marina. We were told that was okay but no mention was made of any charge. When we got our bill, there was a $1/package fee. Not a lot of money to be sure but annoying that it wasn't mentioned up front and as I said, it's never happened in nine years of cruising. It was especially galling since including our expenditures in the ship's store, a bad dinner at the restaurant, and dockage, we spent over $700 there.

Docking was interesting. When we made the reservation, there was no mention of being charged for LOA. We told them we were a Krogen 58 (true). Apparently the owner of the marina got on the internet and determined that our LOA was 63'. That's what we were charged. Okay, I've been charged LOA and sometimes I think it's really justified (e.g., Coinjock ) where every inch matters. But when you take a 58' (or 63') foot boat and side tie it to a finger that is no more than 40' long (with no out pilings), charging for LOA is just not right. (The slip would have been downright unsafe in any kind of a blow. We wouldn't have taken it if anything other than benign weather was forecast). The whole thing seemed sneaky and underhanded.

We got a pump out was $14 for only about 50 gallons of waste. Seems a little high but if that's the going rate for Lake Champlain, so be it.

After cooling down for a day, we sent an email to the owner expressing our concerns. We never heard from him.

The only thing that keeps this from being a 1 star review is that the kids who work in the marina are terrific. They are engaging, knowlegeable, polite, and very friendly.

Very satisfied customer., 2011-02-09
Captain: , florida (230)

I kept my old Hallberg Mistral sailboat there for several years (now my ex-wife keeps it there). The price was right, and as everyone else has said, its a friendly place. Larry did some work on my Perkins 4-108 diesel and did a great job. I highly recommend it.

Also, if you're lucky, you might see Champ.

A bit on the pricey side, but . . ., 2011-01-30
Captain: , Coles Point, VA (777)

. . . all the basic services are there. Good help landing at the dock. Fuel is a bit higher than the other marinas. Docks are not the best shape, and the store prices are a little on the high side. Mostly friendly people. Gas and Diesel. Suffers from high water in the early season which often goes up/over the gas dock tie up. Temp. docks set up during high water. Lousy breakwater. Good walking access to restaurants in town. Lovely views.

Nice stop for a day or two, 2011-01-28
Captain: , Montreal (383)

Nice marina with friendly staff. But no grocery for miles around (unless you consider a convenience store to be a grocery).

Westport Marina, 2010-08-07
Captain: , charlotte, vt (20)

We go every year for at least one visit, even though our homeport is only an hour away. The Carroll family does a great job; Larry is a first rate mechanic; the food is good, and the views to Vermont are spectacular.

Delivered a yacht there, 2010-07-05
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (935)

This is a great marina. I delivered a 58' yacht there and when we arrived the dock was all set up and the dockmaster was there to help us with docking and some electrical issues that we had on the boat. Great food, great people, great location.. you can't ask for more.

Yanmar Engine Repair, 2010-04-20
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (335)

If your boat is powered by any of Yanmar's great engines, then Larry at Westport Marina is the man you want to take care of them.

Nice Place, 2010-01-02
Captain: , Poughkeepsie Yacht Club (137)

I stop here every year.
The Carrol family run a good business here, nice store, good resturant and lots of help and friendly service.
The Resturant to the east is also excellent. You can get a very
nice lunch at the golf course.
Westport does have 2 grocery stores nearby, and that's about it.

Great Marina, 2009-09-06
Captain: , Lewes, DE (2517)

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The facilities are great, and this particular weekend (Labor Day) had a great LobsterFest with clams as well as a cardboat building and racing event. The marina is exposed to a north wind and can get rolly, but that is a small inconvience considering everything else.

Westport Marina, 2008-06-30
Captain: , Newtown, CT (245)

Helpful and Friendly staff, clean facitities, a good ships store, nice restaurant...what could be better? The breakwater protects you from wakes. Nice small town and an excellent breakfast up the street.

Great Marina, 2008-01-20
Captain: , East Greenbush, NY (705)

This is a great marina to visit on the weekends. They have an decent restaurant, good bar, live music on Friday and Saturday nights and a number of activities during the summer. They are walking distance to a restaurant or two in town and a grocery, plus have a good ships store. They seem to have an equal mix of powerboaters and sailboats and everyone is always pretty friendly.
