Reviews for West Wall
Priced right and good place to stay after a long day transiting docks, 2015-05-30
Captain: , Huntington Harbour, CA (337)

It was shallow, 5', we didn't have issues with the release of water from the dam. After a long day of transiting the locks it was a nice to be tied up. Not the best neighborhood and not so easy to tie up and connect power to larger boats like most of us have. The fire rescue boat is right there as are the city offices so I think it's safer than might have first appeared to be. The Irish restaurant building has been condemned. You need to park forward of the fence boardering the condemended restaurant. $20 for the night and one night is enough. Look for the white mailbox which might have forms, and next to it is a black slotted "box" to leave your money. No forms so we just wrote our boat's name on the $20 and put it in the slot. Local officials showed up the next morning to leave forms and collect and were apprecitive that we had already deposited our money. The Office Restaurant is near by and was good and priced right. We contacted the Oswego Yacht Club and they were nice enough to find a member for us to talk with that had "local knowledge" of transiting the St. Lawrence and also the 1000 islands.

Swift Current, 2014-06-09
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

The west wall has 3 posts, each with a 30A and a 20 A plug. Cost is $20 per night. The current rips from the dam making it a challenge to tie up. Lots of people and fishermen walking by (some stopping to peer into your boat.) There are public restrooms but they are locked at night.

Very shallow along the wall., 2014-02-19

I draft 5.5' and bounce off the bottom here. Okay for power boats, but the best restaraunt is closed anyway.

Avoid this location, 2012-09-18
Captain: , Toronto (280)

The lockmaster at O-8 told us that we could tie up to the west wall with no worries. The chart showed 24 ft right to the wall.
THE CHART AND THE LOCKMASTER WERE BOTH WRONG. With a 4'9" draft we TOUCHED rock when we were 50' away from the wall. 20' from the wall we were hard aground. Fortunately the rocks here are all shelving and after pivoting and turning we were able to get off and away from this deceiving wall. This is not a viable option for sailing vessels. Numerous small power boats passed us by without offering even the courtesy of a tow.

Stay here only if you have to stock up, 2012-09-11
Captain: , Bear DE (694)

terrible wall with high sides for $20 a night - but a close walk to grocery store and restaurants. You can get free WiFi from the Captain Quarters if you have a good antenna.

I don't think they..., 2012-06-13
Captain: , Illinois (2471)

really want to attract cruisers. Spotty electric service, no showers, no wifi and being a gymnist getting on and off the boat would prove beneficial.
The 'Blue Plate' restaurant was good.
Sorry Oswego. You can do much better.

Should be zero stars, 2012-06-09
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

This is a terrible place. Electric is spoty and very limited, only three power stations and some plugs don't work. Getting on and off boat is difficult. Floating dock has been marked as for fire department use only. Another boat asked to use since there is no fire dept equipement there and a nasty, unfriendly man came down when asked if they could use the unoccupied dock and yelled to move the boat. This is not a firendly place to stop. Fishermen are all around the boats casting between them to fish. Would be zero stars if I could give them no stars.

No docks present, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Pultneyville ny (21)

We attempted to dock on the concrete wall, since there weren't any lower docks installed. It would have been impossible to get out dog out of the boat up 5+ feet and over a fence. This dock is better for those with lots of freeboard. The only actual dock was for the fire department.

Captain: , Hampton, VA (389)

very convienent to several grocery stores, a Jo-ann fabric store and restaurants. The current was calm during our stay but we could tell that rough seas from the lake could cause trouble. Check the weather and wind direction before staying here. I would rate it higher if water and power were included in the $20.00 fee to dock here.

Reasonable, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

For $20, a good side tie in down town area. Close to restaurants. Nice to have electric and great walking/biking paths next to the boat. Exposed to weather, but great in smooth seas.

Oswego River Walk West, 2011-06-26
Captain: , Wilsonville, AL (300)

The current and water released from dam made two very uncomfortable nights. Power is too far apart and had to borrow 50' cord. No showers available @ site but were within a half-mile walk @ another marina. Moved to East wall for next night. Much more comfortable and closer to laundry restaurants etc.

West wall currents, 2011-06-25
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (701)

Could not be located better for access to Oswego, a very nice city.
The only problem is the current from the water releases from the hydroelectric plant above lock 7. These create currents so strong that standing waves occur that are 12+ inches high adjacent to the wall. They really were not a problem for us, but our 36 ft. trawler did move with them. A strong wind from the lake could be a lot worse. Be sure to look for the gates in fence along the wall. You will see the white power outlets, and they are near the gates of the fence. Unfortunately, the fence gates are spaced nearly 100 feet apart. Cleats exist only on some of the wall.

Oswego West Wall, 2011-06-13
Captain: , Annapolis (208)

Arrived on 13 June 2011. Staying a couple of days to pick up some repaired props. Floating dock not installed yet, but concrete wall was fine after some adjustments to match where the gagtes were. Electric fine;heads fine. Nice walking in the area. Rental car (Enterprise) within walkiing distance

Nice place to stop while waiting to cross lake, 2009-08-25
Captain: , Melbourne Florida (4616)

loved it. $20 for tie up and 30 amp......bars close with hardware store and more.

Fine plase in good weather, 2009-04-06
Captain: , Austin, Tx (1257)

Current from River manageable with no problem. A North or NW wind drives substantial water in from Lake Ont. Could (did) get relatively uncomfortable. If you need more than 30 a, the 20a connector will need an adapted.

Rough, 2008-07-15
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

$20 you get electric, but rough, not recomended in strong wind

Oswego West Wall, 2008-05-22
Captain: , Patterson, La (1441)

We used it along with several other cruisers in 15-20 mph winds with no problem. More than that it could be uncomfortable.

Hey, you got elec for a reasonable amt.
