Reviews for West Shore Yacht Center
Excellent Little Marina, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Essex, MD (51)

This is an excellent little marina that has apparently been (and continues to be) renovated in recent years. The staff/owners are very friendly and helpful. These is currently no fuel available, but there is a pump-out. the facility also has a nice new pool, cook-out area and showers. The only downside is the lack of a break-wall.

Basic, Well Maintained, Good Value, 2013-01-16
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

I've had a slip here for 9 years, 2 on a floating pier and 7 on a lift. Yes, this is a simple facility but it is clean, well maintained, owner operated and has gas, pump out, showers, laundry, ice, water, etc. Over the last 2 seasons the marina has been dredged, but yes Back River is prone to silting and the water quality this far up is fair. Midges can be a problem, but that is true of all marinas on this river and even on adjacent waterways. If you are looking for a marina experience with social aspects, restaurant, nearby amenities, etc. this is probably not or you. But, if you want an affordable place to keep your boat that is well maintained and has the necessities then it is perfect. Word is they are putting in a pool this year so that will add to the value.

Boaters beware, 2012-01-25
Captain: , Pasadena (10)

I would recommend contacting the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland or the Maryland Attorney General%u2019s office before doing any business with this company. We stored our boat on a lift slip from 2009 to 2011 and were promised many things and West Shore never delivered including a refund if the need arised to move on. Lost $1800. Details can be found on the BBB website or by contacting MD.Attorney Generals office.

Friendly and Inexpensive, 2012-01-05
Captain: , Saint Petersburg, FL (56)

The owners of the marina are extremely nice and go out of their way to make you feel at home. And this is by a large margin one of the least expensive marinas around. Unfortunately the marina is far up Back River which, although a beautiful river, is home to a major sewage treatment plant. The river is very nearly dead this far upstream (except for the dreaded midges) so the water is an opaque brown, is muddy and the marina is fighting an uphill battle against major silting. Mind the channel markers and, if possible, follow the natives, as the river has major (often unmarked) shallow areas where silting has occurred And when the wind comes from one particular direction, the odor from the sewage plant is unpleasant. The marina itself is family run and bare bones and you will need a car to get anywhere. The bathrooms and showers are simple but clean and well maintained. if you have a shallow draft and are not bothered by the other things mentioned here, the friendliness, price and beauty of the river will overcome the shortcomings for a lot of people.
