Reviews for Westport Harbour
Great place to stop, 2016-12-11
Captain: , Ottawa (653)

Docks have full electricity. Harbourmaster very helpful and the cost is reasonable. Showers and washrooms a 5 minute walk into town. The town has a small hardware store and grocery store. Some small shops and a few restaurants. Call ahead on VHF 68 for directions into the harbour. There are 2 entrances which are not connected. The approaches are very shallow so make sure to pay close attention to the markers.

Westport Marina, 2016-09-06
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

A great town Marina. The dockmaster was extremely polite and helpful. We enjoyed the town and had a great lunch at the Tangled Garden.
Grocery shopping was also handy.

Unplanned side trip, 2016-08-24
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

We were planning on staying on the top of the Newboro lock but their electric spots were full. The lockmaster called ahead for us and the harbormaster in Westport said come on in. We got a spot on the wall which was a very nice spot. Nice town for an evening walk. Bathrooms and showers were a liittle walk but ok. We were glad we stopped.

Nice marina and town, 2016-03-09
Captain: , Rochester, New York (213)

Sept 3, 2015-- Spent 3 nights here to avoid potential river traffic over labor day holiday. Rick and Josh took good care of us. Docking was easy (but call in ahead on the radio to see which entrance you should use).
The bathrooms are a bit of a walk, and the showers require payment. That is only reason I rated this a 3 not a 4.
The Cove is a nice place for dinner. They have a band on Thur night and the food is good. There is also a small museum that has lots of interesting items from the history of the area. It is worth a stop.Town does seem to shut down at 9pm

Nice marina, GREAT Fishing., 2015-08-19
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

Wasn't planned, but we took the side trip to Westport, glad we did. Situated right in the middle of town, everything is easy walking distance. We had to walk to library for the wifi, other than that all else was good. I caught plenty of bass for a fish fry right off the docks. plenty of small pikes to give you the fight too. Bathrooms were a block away at visitors center, but shucks, this town is trying to lure the cruisiing clans.

Great stop on the Rideau System, 2015-08-11
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

Ditto what the other reviewers have mentioned: we were put on a side tie to the long dock inside the island. Well protected, good power (30 amp) and fresh water. Great dock master helped us in and answered questions. Town has lots of restaurants, stores, a hardware store and a FANTASTIC bakery. Loved the bakery! Do yourself a favor and stop in - early in the day - and make some purchases (bread, tarts, quiches, sausage rolls, doughnuts, etc.). GREAT stuff.

Nice town, friendly harbormaster, good docks with water and power. Short walk to town where there is a hardwares store, several restaurants, and many other businesses.

A nice place ..., 2014-09-11
Captain: , Kingston, ON (230)

... for a municipal facility run by volunteers. Water and power available at the docks included in the price. Wifi too, but very slow and not especially reliable. Washrooms and showers though are a block and a half away in the downtown area and open to the public. Showers are coin operated ($1.00 for two minutes). At $1.25/ft per night I would have expected something on-site but the marina is on a small island connected to the downtown via a foot bridge. A nice small town with some funky tourist shops and a good spot to resupply. The volunteer harbourmaster is great and very helpful.

Worthwhile 'diversion' off of the Rideau Canal, 2014-07-23
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

First off, name of place is Westport, one word, not two. For this area, a very nice stop - hence the four stars. We're not in Ft Lauderdale, Toto. Docks need a little maintenance. Great wifi, used twin 30 amp to get 50 amp (we needed air conditioning - it was hot). Water is available. Was buggy at night. Check out is 11 am. Call dockmaster around 10 am and find out what dockage is available after checkout - you don't really make a reservation. We assumed deeper water was at north end of island, but there were two GB 42 trawlers at the south docks, although don't expect much more than six feet at either end. Comments about town facilities still valid - two bakeries, grocery, gourmet shop, hardware store, emergency medical next to pharmacy, dentist, and several restaurants all within two-three 'village' blocks of marina.

Good resupply stop, nice town, 2013-08-15
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7049)

Docks, power, water - all adequate. Be sure to call before you start down main bouyed channel as dockmaster may send to to alternate channel to south. Most everything you need to supply within 2 blocks including hardware with limited marine parts and a decent sized grocery store. Lots of boutique shopping.

Quaint Stop-Over, 2013-08-01
Captain: , Prescott, Ontario (141)

Shopping is in close proximity to the docks. Some very unique shops in Westport not your strip mall stores.
Showers are a bit of a walk (a couple of minutes) and they are pay showers.

Very nice little town, 2013-07-29
Captain: , Rochester NY (310)

We arrived here during the Canadian holidays and it was quite full. We called the harbormaster on 68 and we were told some boats were leaving and that checkout was at 11am. He took our boat name and we waited in Upper Rideau Lake until he called us to come in. The channels are very narrow but the docks and town are very nice.

We pumped out at the marina in the north channel on a very short wall (20') and very low docks. Not much room to turn around.

Ideal Stop, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Freeport, ME (608)

Clean, well kept up. All bases covered within a couple of blocks: grocery, ice cream, restaurants, shops, hardware, ice cream, laundry. Very helpful harbourmaster - call on VHF 68 to see if there is space available, and he will direct you to the correct entrance channel, and help you get into you assigned space.

Worth the deviation, 2013-07-02
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2320)

This is a nice marina with great docks and access to all of the necessities a boater is looking for. There is free internet, a nice grocery store two blocks away, a choice of restaurants and three ice cream parlors...what else is there!

Really nice little town with everything in walking distance, 2013-01-31
Captain: , Gloucester, MA (807)

Lots of shops, hardware store, ice cream, bakery, etc all within easy walking distance. Very nice place to stop for a day or two.

Quiet Little Town, 2012-09-16
Captain: , Roswell, GA (455)

Grocery, Bottle shop, Restaurants, all within a few minutes walking distance. Pay as you go showers, 1 loon for two minutes at the municipal building.

Very Nice Town, 2012-08-18
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

heading south on the Rideau, this is a great stop. Nice shops for the ladies, good food at the Cove Inn and gricery across the street. Also Beer and Liquor store 2 blocks away. dockmaster is very helpful. 6 foot depth coming in. Good breakfast and lunch at the Tangled Garden. Great fresh fish at the Salmon House, whcih is a fish and chips place. 3 ice cream stores, we liked the one closest to the harbor. Most of teh outer docks to the south have power and water now. We used 2 30 amp plugs to make a 50 amp.

Good and pleasant stop, 2012-08-11
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

Everything within walking distance. No problem with depth. We draw 4 ft. Electricity was included in 1.25 rate.

Don't miss Westport., 2012-07-19
Captain: , Lake Champlain, VT (271)

Cute resort town with good grocery shopping, two bakeries, and three ice cream parlours. Don't miss the fish store on the main street for sandwiches and a variety of smoked salmon products.

Easy In Harbor, 2011-07-11
Captain: , Stuart FL (835)

Nice dock with 30 power and water. Price $1.25 June 2011.

Looked at free dock which is to right as come in the channel. No power or water and loooked a bit short for our KK 42. Free dock appears to be not further from town than the "town dock".

As usual the docks are very low and need to have fenders dragging water when come in to dock. The channel is a bit tight to turn around in but certainly can be done. However if wind blowing away from dock a port side tie up may be easier than trying to turn around if wind blowing hard.
