Reviews for Waupoos Marina
could Use an Upgrade, 2017-07-04

An acceptable overnight stop. Close to the Waupoos winery. The marina is looking very tired and in need of TLC. Marina staff do not seem knowledgable, but they are friendly.

worst marina I've encountered in 20+years, 2016-07-25
Captain: , Crysler park Ontario (10)

Would have rated this a zero but system expects at least one star.
I've been there before twice, old ,tired facility but great location on lake. Had friendly staff in past including last year.
Changed ownership last summer and I had hopes new owners would improve the marina.
Dead wrong.
No signs of facility improvements from the water and service has gone to zero. They have no idea of what they are doing.
Reserved for 3 nights last week. Upon arrival tried repeatedly to call for dock assignment on 68; no call from my cell went directly to voice mail.Saw signs of life at gas dock and decided to approach.
Lots of room at gas dock until dock hands (???) pulled a boat from end of dock to center of dock; no room left for me.
They were looking right at me trying to hold off in center of their narrow approach channel but no reaction.
Back to 68 no answer.
I called on 16; got reply that they were busy and would be a short while.End of contact.
So much for service.
Tried 68 and cell again to no avail.
After another 5 minutes of holding in channel I turned and went on to Kingston ( hour and a half away)
Never have I encountered a marina like this and I will certainly never try this one again.
I would caution anyone considering this marina .

Rustic is the nice way to describe this marina, 2016-07-11
Captain: , Naples, FL (170)

I really wanted to like this marina better. It is secluded and is plenty deep enough (but is tricky to get too - watch your charts). It is old and not well kept. The people are trying hard and I understand a new owner is now in charge. But it is not well kept or maintained. People are nice and docks are spacious. But no water at the slips.

There is very little withing walking distance. There is a pub maybe 1/2 mile away but you have to be there at the right time. It is only open for dinner on Wed - Sat. There is a winery and restaurant just a little further in the opposite direction but I did not try it.

But this is in an absolutely beautiful part of rural Canada. Despite the above shortcomings, I would go back.

Still Great despite some doubtful complainers!, 2016-01-19
Captain: , Black River, Ontario, Canada (224)

Best first stop if coming from open Lake Ont. from across the lake or east/west. Very good facilities, hot tub, barbeques ashore, comlimentary coffee at shell of old building in the morning. This is an old Cannery that was very active for local farmers for many years until it was made obsolete by frozen veggies in the late 70's. Lots of friendly staff and many local boats with helpful and friendly Captains. Some repairs available, ask for Rick, the manager and a shipwright, if you have any problems.

Under new ownership as of spring 2015. See some improvement already, very optimistic.

Nice place to stop, 2015-07-24
Captain: , Gananoque ,Ontario Canada (430)

This marina is tucked away from the lake and nice staff (Austin was great and very helpful) The coffee and muffin thing they had going no longer exists as the blue moose? is closed. They still do complimentary coffee though. There are 2 places to get a dinner one is the Waupoos winery close by 10 min dingy ride (a little pricy) and one closer within walking distance or you can use bicycles that they loan out. The docks are floaters and larger boats are setup along several walls. Fresh drinking water is not at the sip but is available at each pier entrance. I would return to this marina

It's a great stop, 2013-08-29
Captain: , Vancouver (30)

We just spent a week here, we can't say enough. Rick and the folks are very accomadating. Showers and restrooms are clean, as is the laundry. There is a small restaurant, however only open till 2pm. There is a pub just down the road (2km). The only thing about Waupoos is there is no grocery shopping and the nearest store is 17km's away, cab fare was $20 each way. Hitch hiking was easy and safe (picked up by an elderly lady and she waited for me to shop to drive me back. They do have a weed problem, but marina staff spend a lot of time harvesting weeds all thru the marina docks so it wasn't a problem. We loved our stay and will certainly return

Avoid this Marina (July 2013 review) Follow up, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Port Dalhousie, Niagara, Canada (20)

This Marina has gone downhill disastrously since some of the positive previous reports.
The staff seem not to care one iota, the service is abyssmal, the facilities terrible and run down. It looked derelict, dirty and uncared for!
We had stayed in Cobourg the night prior and were shocked in comparison at Waupoos
Would never ever go back
Neil Malcolm (Caduceus II - 50' power pilothouse)
As a follow up, Our thrusters were clogged and jammed with the weeds in the Marina, (they cut on a day with no wind or water movement-resulting in a weed packed marina!) and after filling with 1000 litres diesel on return to home the fuel filters had to be changed re dirty diesel fuel presumably.
Agree great to be near the vineyards, but not at this sadly run down, uncared for Marina.
Stand by the never return remarks and would never recommend to anyone

A little rough around the edges, 2013-08-06
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

Waupoos marina is a nice enough marina, even though it is a little rough looking, and not really well suited to larger boats. If you're longer than 35' you'll probably find the slips a little short.

But, the big appeal to this marina, at least for us, wasn't the marina itself, but the location. This is a great spot to base an excursion to the local wineries.

Friendly services even if you are anchoring, 2013-05-30
Captain: , Toronto (49)

We love Waupoos and have anchored there several years on our way to and from Toronto to Eastern Lake Ontario. We use Waupoos Marina as our shore base. In addition to the services and friendly staff mentioned in other reviews, for a modest fee ($7 in 2012) you can use the showers, the laundry, the meeting shelter, picnic tables, and all the other facilities even if you are at anchor. Good deal!

we loved this place!, 2013-02-02
Captain: , Mimico (110)

We had an excellent time here! Very friendly and helpful. Used it as a home base for several days while we explored the area and didn't want to leave! The restaurant is wonderful and you can swim in the marina the water is so clean.

Lovely marina, 2012-11-03
Captain: , Kingston (269)

This is a lovely little marina. The facilities are clean, and the employees and the local people are more than friendly. Take a walk to pick up some fresh veggies in season, meat from a local farm, and use the BBQs provided.

Mediocre. There are better places to stay., 2012-07-07
Captain: , Pultneyville, NY (285)

Rustic? Yep, zactly. Great, calm location. A bit disorganized it seemed.

We spent the night and it worked however.

Nice place to stop and close to the US, 2012-07-06
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

The crossing from Oswego was only 42 nm, 32 across the lake and 10 to get to the marina. Staff is very friendly and helpful. "Rustic" is the best word to describe it. Lovely location. Good shelter from winds except due easterlies. Happy with our choice. Access to electric is bit tricky.

Very restful stop, 2012-06-25
Captain: , Bainbridge Island, WA (343)

Some things have changed--the burned down building mentioned in an earlier review is gone, but so are the muffins for breakfast, the sauna, and the aviary mentioned in one of the guidebooks. The strawberries are gone, too, but there are now several wineries that could be visited on the free-to-borrow bicycles. There's also a blueberry farm just past the best known winery (actually, there's one just outside the marina, but they don't sell the public, I'm told). Very pleasant & helpful staff, and the on-site restaurant serves modest but good food for breakfast & lunch.

Good palce to unwind, 2011-04-27
Captain: , Pensacola (307)

This is a very relaxed marina where the boater can spend a couple of very pleasant days. In late June and Early Strawberries are in season and there is a U-Pick field just outsice the marina.

Go out to the road and turn left about 1/2 mile to the Duke of Marysburg pub. They serve Daqueris made with fresh strawberries (in Season)

Call Wapoos Estates Winery and they will pick you up at the marina. Take the wine tour or have dinner. They serve an excellent meal.

Great little Marina, 2011-02-06
Captain: , Glenora (590)

Great protection and service at this marina. Freindly staff and nice dock space.

Mixed bag - some good, some not so much, 2010-03-19
Captain: , Whitby (1653)

Location is great for anyone passing outside Prince Edward County. The facilities are an unusual mix of well-maintained and run-down. On one of our visits, the hot tub was green. The main building had burned to the ground some years before and only a shell of debris remained. Water quality is excellent, and there is no surge in the harbour. People actually DO swim right at their boats.

Good spot, 2008-09-16
Captain: , Newcastle Ontario (102)

Tire breakwall which does a great job of keeping things quiet. Can be a windy spot to try to dock. Laundry facilities on site which is paid on the honour system. In the middle of nowwhere though, so unless you have a bike or call a cab, not much to do. Good stopover spot before heading out into the big lake.

Waupoos Marina, 2008-08-05
Captain: , Blighsburgh (205)

Maybe we hit a bad day but we did not find the staff either friendly or helpful. The kid on duty was practically surly. Nice area, good docks, had a nasty storm the night we were there and marina breakwater provided excellent protection. Should be a great spot, will try it again next summer and hope for a better experience.

Update July 2008:
Well, what a difference a person can make. This visit totally different than last year, young fellow running the docks was most helpful and friendly. Staff went out of their way to help us out with advice and services. Much better indeed.

A nice rustic marina with an interesting rural ambience, 2007-09-20
Captain: , Montreal, Quebec, Canada (253)

We have spent a few days each for the last two summers at Waupoos Marina and we find the staff to be very competent and friendly. This is a great place to have friends meet you. There is also a bed & breakfast at the marina and a campground. And the sailing from there is fabulous and wide open.
