Reviews for Waukegan Harbor
A nice spot, 2017-03-08
Captain: , Chicago, IL (50)

Mike S on Karizmaddie

We stopped there on our way to Racine to do the hook race. There were storms all around us and the guy on duty in the office gave us a ride to the newly opened sports bar/restaurant just over the hill in town. He came to fetch us back also. We couldn't have asked for more from the staff.

Clean facilities but not much else around, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

I stayed here a few times but they gave Boat US discount which made it nice for the price. As of 2016 no Boat US discount. Actual marina is nice but nothing really around here. You can take Metra train to downtown Chicago for the day as the station is close which is a real plus. Fuel prices are better than Chicago so we stop here to refuel going North or South on the lake. The staff on the fuel dock has always been helpful.

Lots of boat but very few here...., 2016-08-16

Nice Harbor with floating concret piers. Good rate per foot......
Oh, they no longer give anyone a discount for Boat US. Our 33' boat cost us about $50 buck for an overnight. Not much to do unless you hike into town.

Friendly staff, well kept marina., 2016-08-05

We stayed one night. Liked the staff very much. Gregg took me in their pickup to Lewis Fresh Market into town and it was fantastic. He waited while I shopped. Great produce/meat, etc. So, if you visit this marina, see if you could get a ride to this market. Gregg offered initially. Nice person. The facilities are very nice. Their flower garden in front is full of colorful swiss chard as a ornamental plant and they gave me permission to pick some. Nice vegetable to have on hand for my galley.

Clean place easy in and out for fuel and docking, 2016-07-26
Captain: , Saint Charles (669)

Not much in the area off of the marina but the marina is well kept. clean rest rooms, clean docks well sheltered from the lake.

Skip this port, 2015-07-26
Captain: , South Haven, MI (40)

The Marina is well done with attractive facilities and nice people. However, there is nothing else available. The YC is nearly closed, there isn't a real restaurant in walking distance and the locals tell me the town is a disaster. OK for a quick stop over... nothing more. Try Kenosha instead.

Not ready for prime time, 2015-06-01
Captain: , LaSalle MI (618)

Stopped for fuel and overnite dockage, fuel dock attendent was very enthousiastic and eager to please. Front office however seemed we were nothing but an intrusion on whatever it was she was doing since we were the first and only boat that arrived today. Nice facility, clean and in good repair.

A PLANNED STOP, 2014-09-22
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

We planned this stop due to close proximity to Railroad Station one block. $27.00 total for two tickets round trip train fare to Chicago. Great Rate with Boat U.S. Discount. Ask for it. Facilities excellent and very clean. Staff very helpful. Maintenance Mgr John bought a high 3 step fiberglass ladder to our slip. Caution High Free Board Vessel's. Steel pilling between entrance to all slips separates you from you neighbor. The top of this steel piling has a "SHARP" edge with NO CAP! Wind pushed us down on it and it caught us under a rub rail putting a nice scratch into Gelcoat and side of boat. Great Place to hide out from high winds and seas which we did for 4 days.

Brand new facilities, 2014-09-15
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

Very nice marina with floating docks. The price at $1 was pretty good. Nice showers.

Not many places to walk to for dinner. There is a new outdoor place called Terrace at Silvin Place that has good food and a full bar. It's about a 7 min walk from the marina.

Be sure to contact harbor as you enter. Word is to keep buoies to your west if you draw more the 5 ft.

Great Place, 2011-03-23

Been there for years. Best marina in the area.

Waukegan Harbor, 2009-08-07
Captain: , Waukegan, IL (39)

The harbor itself is very nice and has all of the amenities. It is very well maintained. As noted in the other review the town does not have much to offer.

Waukegan Plus and Minus, 2009-03-20
Captain: , Waukegan, IL. (50)

Waukegan Harbor( both old and new) have been Jodi m's home port for close to 40 years. We have found the harbor staff to be outstanding and "customer oriented". The harbor itself, the staff and the vendors that service it are all outstanding. Those are the plusses--unfortunately the city, itself, leaves very little to reccommend. The best one could offer is that the train station is a few blocks from the harbor and you can quickly get to Chicago.. It is truly a shame that the City of Waukegan has expended little effort in joining other "rust belt locations" in improving it's waterfront commercial area.
