Reviews for Water Street Hotel and Marina
Needs attention, 2017-08-12
Captain: , Watertown, MA (40)

Location excellent with close proximity to great little town. Hotel is freshly painted. I stayed on my boat. Floating concrete docks themselves are in good repair, but transitions between them are in dangerous condition. Electric pedestals are covered with spiderwebs, books, and fuses not in the off position at inspection. Trash not emptied promptly, and smell like rotten meat when opened.. For the ENTIRE marina there is ONLY ONE bath/shower combo, and that one was unclean. There were no shelves to put a few things on while showering, so I put the toilet seat down to rest my bag on it; unfortunately there was urine all over the back of the toilet. Shower and sink also icky and dirty. No laundry at all. Facilities are quite overpriced for what you get. When I showed the manager pictures of the problem areas, she was nonplussed and apologized only after prompted to do so. Blamed high rates on the owners, rather than politely saying that she would pass the information along to her bosses.

4 Stars If You're 43' X 14" or Less, 2017-06-26
Captain: , Galveston Texas (315)

Our 43' powerboat just squeezed into one of their two 40' slips. If you can fit, no other facility in town can compete. Water, power, showers And a pool. At he same $1.50/ft as the municipal piers with no services at all. Great service from a friendly staff, they were waiting on the finger to handle our lines and the office staff were friendly and effiecent. Lively town within easy walking distance. Easy in and easy out of marina.

Nice stop after Big Bend, 2017-06-19

Nice small marina with floating concrete docks, clean restrooms and showers. Easy walking distance to restaurants and shops in the Historic district.

Rating depends upon season, 2016-11-13
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

It would seem that in a busy season, this can be an iffy place for a transient boater. In Nov of 2016, we had the marina pretty much to ourselves. Watch the current cross-wise to the docks on the creek when maneuvering.

The one bath/shower is large and clean, but the shower head was clogged and only trickled water. I reported it on our first morning there and it was fixed within an hour! The pool is quite nice, but unheated and outside, so we did not use it.

The town is very cute and worth a few hours (or a day) exploring. We had great oysters at Hole in the Wall, but the other seafood baskets were not so impressive.

A bit dissappointing, tried it again, same result, 2016-07-06
Captain: , Destin, fl (40)

This is a very nice hotel with huge rooms and impeccably maintained. And the price reflects it. When we arrived on July 3 we called and were told which slip to use. It was filled. The boat there had been there for a number of days and had been told to dock there. When we called back, we received little help and finally just told them what slip we would use and received a confirmation that was fine. Moments after docking, another boat comes in and says that is their slip. Called the front desk (there is no competent dock master) and they sent the folks to another slip. It was absolute chaos and in effect, they had oversold the slips for the weekend.

I wouid probably stay again but not on a holiday weekend, they are just too disorganized to make it worth the effort.

The town was great, they had an INCREDIBLE fireworks show. Up The Creek was a short walk, got seats right at the bar despite the big crowds in town, food, drink and service was great.

Tried the Water Street Inn again July 4 weekend in 2016. The staff at the front desk did not seem to care whether we were there or not. We did not have any shower towels in one of the bathrooms. When I called and asked, they said they would bring them when they can. They did deliver them after some pushing. Second day, we had the do not distrub sign on until about noon. We put the service room sign out but they never serviced the room. The location is great, the rooms are nice (except for the ants) but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Also did not try the slips this year due to all the issues from before. We docked at Scipio Creek Marina right up the street. Excellent marina.

3 night stay, 2016-06-09
Captain: , Josephine, AL (11)

Very laid back. Office staff were great.
Walking distance of downtown but not grocery store.
Only one large shower, clean with lots of hot water.
Long finger piers, so bow to is best or you may have muddy props.

Good, But Nothing Special, 2015-08-10
Captain: , Panama City, FL (30)

As said before, this is a hotel, not a marina. The staff aren't knowledgeable about boats and, frankly, don't seem to care although they were very friendly and welcoming. I saw signs posted that said the law required them to open their docks up to the public on a first-come-first-served basis, so I'm not sure how they can reserve slips. This may explain the confusion the other reviewer encountered when they went on the holiday weekend.

Positives: The floating docks are nice. Walking distance to downtown, about 4-5 blocks. Very quiet and protected location. The price was right -- 1.35/ft for BoatUS. The pool was nice, but small. The staff was friendly.

Negatives: Only one toilet/shower for the boaters, with no hot water and no soap at the sink (though the sign said employees must wash hands). No privacy - the hotel balconies look right down on the boats. We didn't have anything to hide, but kind of felt we were on stage. No store or other services/amenities one might find at a marina.

Nice and very quiet, 2015-02-07
Captain: , Aurora, KY (146)

My wife have stayed at Water Street Hotel and really enjoyed our stay, but this is the first time we've arrived by boat and used the marina. Best features are the floating docks and closeness to great restaurants and shops downtown. The staff are friendly, but not really marine oriented. Wifi is weak and there is no courtesy car. These were our two biggest complaints, otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

very nice place, 2014-12-27
Captain: , Louisville, KY (347)

floating docks, which are rare and quite welcome. Small marina, wide slips, fingers about 35 feet long. But they are perpendicular to the narrow creek and there can be enough current to make docking a single engine boat interesting. Staff is very welcoming, one lady lent me her car to get to Piggly Wiggly. About three blocks from the center of town which has several bars/restaurants, and even a microbrewery. (Their beer is pretty good, too.)

okay in a pinch, 2014-11-15
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

This is more a hotel than a marina. There is no staff to help dock and one bathroom shower combo, so timing to use the head is critical. no laundry either. it is close to town which has shops and restaurants. Grocery shopping is a distance also.

Disappointing stop, 2014-08-20
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (654)

First you must understand this is a hotel with docks on the sideline. Hotel employees although try have no concept of the boating world. I asked about tides and got the deer in the headlight look. There was an exceptionally low tide while there and we were in the mud by to quote and the manager she said didn't even know how deep her slips were.
Also most disapointing was the town of Apalachicola who centers around the boating community does not have a working pump out in any of the marinas. Shame on you Apalachicola you should know better than this.
We did find the food exceptional in town. Up the Creek was our fave. Ira's at the Gibsons was over priced for marginal acceptable food, with great service. Lots of nice Bohemien Art Stores.

Great Location , great rooms, 2013-08-07
Captain: , Apalachicola, Fl (15)

This where we do our Boat Orientation/Deliverires from Wefings Marine. The staff is exteremly friendly and its a clean upscale facility . Floating Docks are great . 30 and 50 amp power , clean Bathroom/Showers .Walking distance to restaurants ,bars, shopping .

Floating Docks, 2013-02-28
Captain: , Port Clinton (20)

Only floating docks in town. Price is great with Boat US discount. No help with dock lines etc. We spent a week and really enjoy the town. Need to pay attention entering creek as you need to stay close to docked fishing boats.

Nice Overnight, 2012-09-24
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

This is a hotel/condo development with nice concrete floating docks. Well protected. Docks were fine for our 36 foot boat but might be a bit short for longer vessels. There was only 26 feet (combined) width between the two floating finger piers (two slips) and our beam is 13.5 plus fenders. But, the marina had several empty spaces so they just did not put a boat in next to us. Hotel has a pool which we did not use. And, is within a short walk of Papa's Seafood Restaurant which was great.

Great marina, 2012-07-31
Captain: , charleston (831)

Small marina/hotel adjacent to oyster packing plant. Interesting to watch oystermen. Within walking distance of everything. Veterans park, historic home, and botanical garden across the street. Park area was a city dump and parking lot until 2004 when park opened.
Friendly, helpful staff at the hotel -- just not too knowledgeable about boats. Would sttay here again.

Oysters-Oysters-Oysters, 2012-03-19
Captain: , Gulf Shores AL (160)

We stayed here one night. Good docks and a good staff. The food in town makes it a great stopping place. Don't miss Boss Oysters. Ten minute walk from marina.

Location, location, location, 2011-12-17
Captain: , Wilmington, IL (41)

Best marina in Apalach. Friendly management. Central location between downtown, Piggly Wiggly (8 blocks), Papa Joe's Restaurant at Scipio Creek Marina (for absolutely fresh shucked oysters), park. Hotel ammenities (pool, but no hot tub), carts. Clean rest rooms and docks. Rates as of Dec, 2011 with BOATUS are $1.35/ft plus tax.

SUPERB location in Charming fishing / artsy village, 2011-10-05

Staff quite helpfull, slips first rate.... Even a local alligator to entertain. Easy walk to local restaurants and downtown.

Small Sailboat Cruising, 2011-05-07
Captain: , Carrabelle (364)

I have stayed here three times. This is not a full service marina but the floating docks are excellent. The staff is very friendly. You are within easy walking distance to restaurants and convenience stores. There is also a pool available and the hotel staff will loan you towels.

Good location for boats 45 and under, 2011-04-26
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (539)

Checked this out and decided slip dimensions not good for our 52. But it is a good location and should be fine for 45 and under. They had a long slip but it did not have enough beam for us. Contact them by telephone, not VHF. Easy walk to town.

Due to a storm, 2011-04-25
Captain: , Key West (410)

Due to a storm I spent two night here. Appalachacola is an easy walk and in two or three days you pretty much have done it all. Only one shower, in the only bathroom for men and women, for all boats on the dock and staff on duty. Very clean and well kept. Pool. Would I stop again? If there was another storm that big. I wouldn't stop in fair weather just to extend the cruising kitty. Besides this little town is expensive to eat in. Good protection out of the ICW but lots of shrimp boats pass you by.

Water Street Marina , 2009-06-27
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (147)

I agree with all the previous 4 reviewers have said. I would add that there is only one restroom/shower for the whole marina. Ask for the weekly rate. Also there are bay boats for rent nearby. I enjoyed our stay there, as well as a couple of nights in the hotel, and plan to return and charter a boat to cruise the ICW from Wefings, in Eastpoint (across the bridge.)

Water Street Hotel, 2008-12-26
Captain: , Houma, LA (417)

We stayed at the Water Street Hotel docks for a week during May 2008. A great place to stay. No fuel or dock store, but good floating docks and walking distance to town. The hotel is very nice, and you can use the pool. Appalachacola is a really neat town. Low key, not over developed, great restaurants and shops.

Water Street Marina, 2008-10-28
Captain: , Carrabelle, FL (62)

Nice floating docks and friendly service. No restaraunt on site, but a short walk into town.

You are a bit close to the hotel, and sometimes feel as if the people are staring down from their balconies at you.

30 and 50 amp. Water.

Marina changed to Motel/Condo Complex, 2008-01-30
Captain: , Braselton GA (226)

Deep Water is now Water Street Inn and Marina; it is a motel/condo complex with all motel services plus a small marina. Marina is larger (a few more slips) than Deep Water Marina was; slips are somewhat short for larger (45 ft plus) boats but manageable. Usual power and water plus internet but no cable. Rates are good with Boat/US discounts. No fuel but diesel is available just down channel at BP fuel dock; provides fuel to commercial boats active in area so fuel should be fresh and prices as of 1/28/08 were $3.04/gal plus taxes of 7%.
