Reviews for Watch Hill Marina

Truly a gem on Fire Island, only wish the Federal Gov would do more like this, very well protected marina, really nice beach with snack bar and restaurant, some years the restaurant is great other years not so great. The down side is the unique 50amp power adapter that no one in the world has, but they do rent them, surprise! Also the National Seahore seems to have thier heads up thier you no what as they will not spray for insects that pretty much run the place at dusk to dawn, how people camp in the tent area is beyond be, the red cross should setup a blood donor center here!

One of the Best, On Fire Island, 2013-03-03
Captain: , L.I. N.Y. South shore (20)

One of the last true getaway places left on Fire Island, But the Bugs can be killer after a rain or Sunset this is a well know Fact.. But you will still enjoy it, its about as good as it gets on Fire Island.

Very nice overall, 2012-07-06
Captain: , Brookhaven, NY (366)

Stayed in slip A8, easternmost dock. Seemed to be party central on 7/3, neighbors pretty noisey till after midnight, but OK. Wasn't crazy about the straight shot from the bay, but wasn't too bad that night. Docks on western side seemed quiter and more sheltered.
Mosquitos were out, but tolerable with spray and citrona. Experienced folks had screen tents set up right next to dock/bulkhead, and ate and hug out inside them.
Beautiful ocean beach a 5 minute walk.
Rate for Town of Brookhaven residents on Mon, Tues, or Wed nights $1/ft, great deal. Water available, elctric for another $7, but it's 50/250 so I passed without an adapter.
Overall, mosquitos the biggest drawback, but take precautions and hope for a nice breeze, and you'll love the place.
Well marked chanel with range markers make approach and departure a breeze, verizon cell was 2-3 bars.
Call at 8:30am for slip availability and book with credit card. Dockmaster is inside center, and folks in green shirts will wave you in for a fly-by checkin.

Watch Hill overview, 2011-03-28
Captain: , W. Islip (1025)

Watch Hill is located on the western edge of the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness, across the Great South Bay from Patchogue, Long Island. It is accessible by Watch Hill Ferry, private boat, and foot only. The Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness contains a variety of barrier islands ecosystems in a relatively natural condition. It is the only federally designated wilderness area in the State of New York. At 1,363 acres (5.52 km2), it is also one of the smallest wilderness areas managed by the National Park Service.

Watch Hill is accessible seasonally by ferry via The Fire Island National Park Headquarters in Patchogue NY or private boat. Old Inlet is accessible by private boat only or by the Wilderness Visitor Center (located adjacent to Smith Point County Park, accessible year round by car or bus). Privately-owned Bellport Beach splits the wilderness into two zones.

The park offers a variety of outdoor experiences, ranging from ocean swimming to back country hiking to bird watching. Watch Hill contains a marina, visitor center, nature trail, and seasonally lifeguarded beaches. Campground facilities include running water, grills, showers and bathrooms. The campground contains 26 sand sites, including one that is universally accessible. Lifeguarded beaches are provided at Fire Island National Seashore during the summer at Watch Hill, New York. Watch Hill Ferry Terminal is located at 160 West Avenue in Patchogue, New York, 11772.

Great Place, 2011-02-19
Captain: , Patchogue, NY (51)

Day trip or extended weekend Watch Hill is a good time. This is a family friendly spot great for adults and kids of all ages. The beach on the bay side is a great location for the "just learning to swim" having a very flat and shallow area for the kids to play. The park is well maintained, clean and organized.

Very accessible - You are able to get to this location by Ferry, Boat, and the adjoining marina / town 1 mile west (Davis Park).
Food - There is a restaurant, bar, and food shack, along with plenty of BBQ grills available. The food is good.

Mosquitoes- This is a location know for a bug problem. It can be very bad at times, but if you are aware and prepare you can still have a very good time. Preparation at dusk requires indoor stay or plenty of bug spray. Closing up the boat is a must. I find the bugs are out only for a short window of time, and then you can rejoin your dock and outdoor activities.

Watch Hill is one of our favorite local area spots. Food is great, location is perfect, and the entire atmosphere is a boat vacation. We love it - recommended!!

Awesome Beautiful Boaters Paradise!, 2011-02-16
Captain: , Long Island, NY (72)

We have stayed at Watch Hill many weekends and have also done day trips. Easy to get to, just stay in middle of markers on way into marina - Very shallow just outside the markers, especially east side! Great people, great outdoor bar, good food, beautiful beaches on both bay and ocean side. Only downside is mosquittos at dusk - Stay inside boat, or get eaten alive. Other than mosquittos, one of my favorite marinas on Fire Island!!

Best marina on Fire Island, 2010-07-22
Captain: , Bay Shore, NY (490)

Well protected marina from all except strong north winds. Excellent restaurant and snack bar; Nat. Seashore rangers have programs for kids. $2/foot plus $6 electric; need special 50 amp adapter (some available for rent from dockmaster). Greay beach and 15 min. walk to Davis Park.

Watch Hill NPS, 2009-01-22
Captain: , E. Patchogue (328)

Very popular marina. Usually gets full by Friday afternoons during the summer. I also agree that it can get buggy. It usually bad at dusk. Make shore you don't arrive at dusk because you will be eaten alive with the mosquitoes when trying to dock the boat.

Out side bar was open till 10:00 PM when I was there last season. The bar in the restaurant was open till 11:30 PM also. Nights at Watch Hill are quiet. Last ferry leaves Watch Hill at 5:00 PM. If you want to stay later there is ferry service out of Davis Park until Midnight.

GREAT protection, 2008-06-22
Captain: , new york, ny (113)

This is a Federal Park so anyone can stay here. There is a restaurant and bar that reopened up in 07', I think. There is a full service store about a 1/2 mile west in Davis Park.

Very nice marina. 5 min. walk to the beach, nice nature walks, has campsite, barbeque area, 50 amp electric & water, its a national seashore and they don't spray for mosquitos so it can get buggy at times.
