FISH MARKET so close, and new facilities, 2011-07-12
Captain: , Washington, DC (350)

If you are worried about fresh smell of seafood and steamed crabs, this may not be for you, but it was great for me.

We have not stay here, but needed some supplies 2 stroke pre-mix oil for the tender and this was the only place we could find on the water that had it. Neither of the two marinas that sell fuel in the area had oil available. They were well stocked for small boat supplies and outboard motors.

I wish there was something less than a single star, like a black hole. Perhaps the most unhelpful and self-absorbed shop I"ve ever been to.

Nice, But Noisy, 2007-11-30
Captain: , annapolis (183)

I kept my boat on a transient dock here for a season. The marina fronts Washington Channel, with easy access to the Potomac, and so it makes for a nice home base. It has all the basics, including a small hardware store.

But the marina is directly under a freeway overpass, and it is extremely noisy at night. It is also next to the Washington DC fish market -- good for lunch, and bad for the smell of the surrounding area. The marina is close to the National Mall, and you could walk. There are also some restaurants and clubs nearby. But the area is a bit scrubby -- what you might expect under a freeway.

However, the marina personnel are very nice and accommodating and they usually have space.

Stayed here for a month in Apri 2005. Gangplank Marina had no spots. Transient dock is under the interstate but we stayed at northernmost dock. Noise was a bit of a problem but we got used to it and it is relatively quiet at night. Biggest noise is the helicopters to the White House and that affects all the marinas.

Great security, new floating docks, free secure parking. Don't miss the cherry blossoms in early April

New and Loud, 2007-01-19

This is a good looking new marina, but I've never stayed as their prices have always been higher than the others, but more importantly one of the main automobile and train bridges go over the marina, so sleeping might be a challenge for some.
