Great restaurant and outdoor concert venue that allows dinghy raft-ups to listen to the concerts for free. Lots of fun on warm summer nights.

Reviews for Visitor's Dock
Not bad for the price, 2016-12-10
Captain: , Victoria (70)

At $1.00 a foot/night this is some of the cheapest dock space available in San Diego. The marina is okay. Not super clean and tends to attract some derelict type boats. Shower and restroom facilities are awful. Dirty and really worn down. Shower on your boat! Pros are that it is on Shelter Island, so close to lots of marine stores, etc.

Great staging site, 2014-11-10
Captain: , Georgetown, SC (616)

Great location to hang out while waiting for a weather window. Straight in/out to the open ocean, but minimal surge.
Two of the end ties are used by pilot boats, so be prepared for their noisy departures in the middle of the night. Like a lot of SoCal locations, you can expect to see sea lions on the docks. Pretty cool as long as they stay off your swim platform.
As noted below, no security. However, the docks are located at the end of the road on top of Shelter Island, so there's minimal walk-by traffic. The docks are also adjacent to the Harbor Patrol & USCG docks, so that may also be a deterrent.

Transient Docks, 2014-10-18
Captain: , Portland, Oregon (101)

$1.00 per foot per night. Works ok for a brief visit. Not much choice for cruiser's passing through other than the A9 Anchorage over by the USCG Air Station. The location is really not very convenient to shopping, although there are a few places reasonably close for food and drink. For bus service be prepared to walk a mile or more.

Visitor's Dock Moorage, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Kirkland, WA (4478)

Convenient location for stays before departing and upon arrival. Location is good for water access and for bicycle/walking access to Pt. Loma/Shelter Island area of San Diego. Dock and facilities are well-maintained and clean. Facilities are basic and dock is open to the public. For San Diego, it's a relatively quiet place (better than some of the anchorages near the airport). Restaurants are near by and pizza can be delivered to the dock. No nearby grocery stores. Plenty of nearby marina supply stores.

could be worse, 2013-02-11
Captain: , Salt Lake City (186)

If you are just looking for a slip for the night or two, then this is facility is okay.
The head & showers are less than ideal, but they are clean. My wife was not excited about the fact that anyone with the correct key code (changed monthly?) could walk in on her while showering.
There is a lot of helicopter & airplane noise from the base accross the channel.
The upside, these are the closest slips to the harbor entrance and open ocean.

Cheap and clean with nice docks, 2011-05-07
Captain: , Alameda, CA (811)

Anyplace that only charges $10.50/night for the first 5 nights and then $21/night for the next 5 nights has got my vote! Especially in San Diego Bay. The docks are nice and the fee includes shore power. But the restrooms are VERY cold and institutional! But if you want luxury, there are may luxurious (and expensive) marinas nearby.

For cheap money, who can complain?, 2011-03-28
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

Listen, for $10.50/day for a boat under 55', who can complain? The only issue that we saw/felt was that the docks were next to the Pilot boats, who go out at all hours of the night.

The showers/bathrooms are very institutional. If you want nice, pay the big $ of the high end resorts nearby.

Also, if you want to eat nearby, expect to pay big $s.
