Reviews for Vero Beach City Marina
Very Comfortable, 2016-06-30
Captain: , Nacogdoches (160)

Spent several days here in the mooring field. Protection was excellent, wake was a non-issue, mooring balls were fine. Staff is friendly and the facilities/services are pretty good. Transportation around the city is free via local bus lines. Walking distance to the beach. All in all this is a nice place to stay.

exellent moorings docks not so hot., 2016-06-17
Captain: , Key Largo (5304)

Stayed at the marina for the first time in 2016. docks ok but small fairways. Next time the mooring balls.

free bus service to all facilities, bars, groceries and a west marine! inexpesive mooring balls, nice lounge with tv and internet, not called Velcro Beach for nothing, people come and never leave. Very friendly. Don't get much better than this!

Nice stop over, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Portland,Oregon (270)

We stayed on a mooring ball for two nights. It has a nice dinghy dock with a dog park nearby. Easy walk to the beach or the bus will pick you up.

Top notch facility, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Beeville (40)

A favorite going north or south. The staff is helpful. During the winter we look forward to rafting up on the mooring balls. We have made several good friends that way. And provisioning is a breeze as the free city stops in front of the cruiser's lounge once an hour.

But the real treasure is Peter, the local mechanic, diver, boat sitter and jack of all trades. He was quite helpful to me during our last stay. I can recommend him highly. He is a resource as the nearest yard is Fort Pierce.

Understand the nickname, 2016-05-06
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (202)

Once you stop here it's easy to see why people find it hadrd to leave. Mooring field is so well protected and smooth. Free bus service and friendly help at the marina.

just a great stop, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Panama City, FL (574)

Yet again this is one of the places that we love. Sorry we could only make a short stop but used laundry and bus to Publix and assorted shopping. Great staff make this a wonderful place.

What a great place, 2016-04-09
Captain: , Wilmington NC (400)

Late in reviews again. Spent a month in Vero from mid Feb to mid Mar 2016. Stayed in Mooring field. Pumpout at boat, farmers market every weekend, great resturants, free bus, awesome dog park, and awesome marina staff and facilities. Won't even take money on arrival because so may people never leave. Very protected.

Best Dog Park on the ICW is walking distance from marina, 2016-04-06
Captain: , Annapolis (40)

Love to stop here and let Poppy wear herself out! Easy access off ICW. Free bus to shopping or beach, friendly staff. We stayed on a mooring for 2 nights mid week and didn't have anyone raft beside us. Facilities are a little tired, but dock hand said there would be lots of improvements made this summer.

Great town. Mediocre marina, 2016-03-27
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1120)

Expected much more for such a nice town. South docks are decrepit and electric weak with bad ground. Showers too far away to use. No one met us upon arrival--only Florida marina that didn't assign us a slip (said "just take what you can find") and failed to help on arrival. Would be one or two stars except for free pump out boat service that's included with stay. Oh, did I mention the dock cleat for our bow almost fell off when I tried to tie to it? Used a pile instead.

A Very Good Municipal Marina, 2016-03-19
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (450)

Access is easy, the staff is willing, fuel prices are reasonable, the adjacent dog park is amazing, the bus service is frequent and convenient, and the facilities are aging but well-maintained. We found no restaurants within walking distance, but the Vero Beach Yacht Club next door may take you in if you're a reciprocating yacht club member or a member of MTOA.

always a pleasure to stay here, 2016-03-18
Captain: , Pawleys Island (114)

We Love Vero Beach City Mariana. Tim is the best. Always there when you need him! So sad to leave. We've spent our last two winters here and absolutely LOVE everything about it! Cant wait to come back next year! So pretty, great place at the beach! Free bus everywhere...clean and cool!

Friendly and welcoming, both visits, 2016-03-02
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

This marina has some of the friendliest people we have met along the ICW south of the St. Johns River. The marina is older but the fixed docks are sturdy, the electrical hookup solid and the WiFi adequate. Fairways are narrow though. The beach is in walking distance, shops not so much so. To compensate, Vero Beach offers a free bus that stops right in front of the marina. One route goes to the beach, another goes to town; a service we appreciate since we don't carry bicycles or other forms of transportation on board with us. Heads, showers and laundry facilities are clean. There is a Captain's lounge and book exchange on site. We stayed there one night heading south. We liked it so much we plan on spending a week there when we head north.

Our return visit was just as rewarding. We had to make use of the bus service which proved more than adequate. There is a lot to do within walking distance. There is a farmer's market every weekend at the beach, a once a month art show, also at the beach, a wonderful art museum that featured mostly American artists when we visited, and for dog lovers a big dog park practically next door. With easy in and out from the ICW Vero Beach City Marina has a lot to offer.

great stop, 2016-02-28
Captain: , Tampa, Fl (52)

Spent the night on a mooring, walked in the park and to the local grill overlooking ICW. Next morning we want to fuel dock to top off fuel and pump out. Had excellent help and all our interactions with staff were super. A few moorings were available.

now 8th time here, nice area, good facility but room for improvement, 2016-02-15
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario (1880)

Latest stay some staffing improvements, so contact more reliable. Great showers, good laundry, great access to Vero services. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Here are some recommendations based on our recent visit.
-Washrooms getting tired, time to spruce up and clean up. Suggest a renovation might be in order vice patch work.
-should have shut off on end of water hoses at dingy dock
-they dont have clear idea what moorings are avail when you arrive.
-still use fuel dock for overnight transient, but do not enforce off by 0800, so those looking at fueling up before departure have to wait until boats there decide to leave.

great marina overall with lots of conviniances nearby.
Three downfalls experianced this stay, partially attributed to a near fullhouse
1. Wifi was near impossible to access, suspect not adaquate for numbers attempting to access, need to upgrade.
2. Impossile to fuel up first thing in am of departure as fuel dock used as a slip and no enforcement of 815 departure rule.
3. Dingy dock is an excellent design and location, but inadaquate size. Past 5 days mooring field was at approx 2/3 capacity and dingies were stacked two deep.

Not as great as expected, 2016-01-13
Captain: , Hingham, MA (1068)

So many cruisers had talked this marina up that I thought it was going to be so much nicer (especialy after we had spent time at St.Augustine's city marina - which we loved). The mooring field is very packed and everyone is rafted up. I was especially bummed when we left our boat at 4:30pm to go out New Year's eve and came back and found a boat rafted up to us and the older couple was already in bed at 9pm. our plans to have champagne and listen to music in the cockpit were squashed. :(
The facility was ok - showers are pretty moldy and smelt musty. The cruisers lounge was ok - many people were sitting around watchin info-mercials.
The staff was very nice and helpful.
You had to time getting to the fuel dock as there was often a wait.
Dinghy dock needs to be much larger - there is just not enough room for everyone.
The free shuttle is a plus.

Great Marina New Years Eve, 2016-01-04
Captain: , Melbourne, FL (232)

Stayed at Vero Beach City Marina on New Years Eve. Had to make reservations a month in advance for a slip this time of year. Had a great New Years Ever dinnera at the RiverSide Cafe just a short walk away. Took the free bus up to the beach for in the afternoon.

Excellent Visit - Again!, 2016-01-03
Captain: , Palm City FL (134)

Our visit to Vero Beach Marina last week was excellent - great location with very friendly and professional staff.

Nice place to stay, 2016-01-03
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (1900)

Stayed 12 29 2015. We stayed in a slip. Pump out worked well and fuel price for diesel was $2.14 with discount. Decent facilities, good docking help from staff, walked to beach, & took free bus to main part of town. Nice town to visit.

Stayed at better, 2015-12-30
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (173)

There are two and three boats on some of the mooring balls and it is pretty tight. Staff was unresponsive on VHF and by telephone as we approached. We had called several times to get the mooring ball number but we were assured they would answer when we called. We had a reservation but the ball number they gave us already had two boats on it. We had just begun to experience an idle / stalling issue as we turned into the channel so we had to come in at a faster speed than we would have liked. Office was closed before we could get there so we had to track down a maintenance man who was trying to leave to pay and get codes etc. wifi was non functional.

great facilities, 2015-12-10
Captain: , Onekama MI (10)

This is our 3rd visit here. Nice facilities, clean bathrooms and laundry, great transportation system! Wonderful dog park! Very crowded! 3 on a mooring and almost an hour waiting for fuel dock. I think the marina staff could be a bit more proactive when it comes to a 'local' power boater pushing his way in to fuel dock when there are others obviously waiting. We will always stop when we can on the way north and south and have always enjoyed our stays here!

Very Good Value, 2015-11-29
Captain: , annapolis (453)

My sixth trip thru. Tim- Mgr and staff are nice and effiicient,
not like 2011/2012.

Mooring BALL are soft sided (as stated in an earlier review)
and the pennent is long so easy to pick up.

WIFI 's band with is exceeded during the fall crunch as well as the dingy dock ( climbing over three dingys just to get to the dock - sucks). Yes, I understand only a few weeks or one month per yr this is a problem but the City of VB should
address/correct these issues.

Overall a very good value. Will stop again.

Always a pleasant stay, 2015-11-19
Captain: , St. Augustine,FL (231)

Spent two days here in early November, staff was friendly and helpful. Improvements to the facilities are underway. We have stayed here numerous times over the last 6 years and enjoyed every visit. Reminds me of the way Florida was before the high rises.

mooring field w pump out boat & free bus, 2015-11-13
Captain: , St Louis (886)

It's all about the mooring balls (soft-sided. Yeah!), free bus and pump out boat for us. We spent 17 days ($15/day no weekly rate) provisioning & waiting for a weather window. Lounge OK, dinghy dock ok (watch for splinter & nails), bathrooms ok (women's doors propped open--lets in bugs), employees not friendly, wifi good until about 7 pm. They started rafting up just after we left (Nov 12th--I suggest arriving before noon to grab a vacated ball). Sheltered--but that also means less breeze during the day. Getting away from the trees may help with no-see-ums. Dinghy over to Riverside Cafe

Good service, fantastic town, 2015-11-09
Captain: , Little Creek VA (424)

Have stayed both at slips and on moorings. Tim is always helpfull, younger staff not as well trained as they could/should be (probably accounts for the "indifference" reported by others). Such a popular place that it is hard to get a slip, moorings often must be shared. Docks are getting rough, I would guess since it is usually overflowing with buisness, repairs/renovations not a priority for the town.

we had reservations but ! , 2015-11-01
Captain: , Columbia, NC (130)

We had reservations based on previous reviews but took a mooring for $ 15 and really had no issues at all - more then acceptable

staff indifferent, 2015-10-17
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (50)

I called to inquire about getting a slip for a month or more in June and was told the dock master would call me back. After waiting 2 days, I drove over and looked around. Inquired again about a slip. Saw several available but staff still seemed indifferent about renting me one. Said I could request one and they would let me know. 2 months later they never called. Really? The docks look like they were built 50 years ago and the space between the boats is very small. Too sad, as its a nice area. The city should replace the dock with a new, modern Marina and get some new staff as well.

Super Service, 2015-10-08
Captain: , Annapolis (70)

Got fuel and an overnight mooring. Staff went out by boat and put a brand new penant on the ball for us. We appreciated the courteous, professional service.

Not sure what all the hubbub is about, 2015-09-27
Captain: , Nashville, TN (190)

We took a mooring for one night and when it looked like weather was coming, we opted for a slip for the second night. Came into the dock and the wind piped up at the very moment I was making my turn (completely my fault). BUT... the dock had a sharp, unprotected corner with nails sticking out of it!

I was not carrying enough speed to keep me off and now I have two nice bit gashes in my gelcoat. I take responsibility for driving my boat but cmon guys... how about some chaffe protection on sharp corners?

The dock master was completely indifferent. The lounge was good. Laundry was ok and so were the bathrooms. Everyone raves about Vero and the "free bus"? I could not go back and be perfectly fine.

Over rated. Especially if you have to side tie when the moorings are all taken. No way...

mooring limitation on boat length, 2015-09-07
Captain: , Key Largo Florida (61)

Sadly, we discovered today that moorings are now limited to boat lengths of 50' and less. Something bad happened, isn't it always that way, and the makers of decisions over reacted.

Well protected Marina, 2015-08-24
Captain: , Beaumont, TX (669)

We stayed 4/21 12 during thunderstorm and winds that were clocked above 60 m.p.h and torrential problem evident with any of the boats on moorings or at dock...other than one bimini that one boat didn't secure and it got torn. Easy walk down to beach and the art museum was excellent. Easy entry. Helpful polite staff
UPDATE: 8/2015
Previous review re: deterioating conditions here....problems have been resolved. Moorings are checked every year and all have been replaced with new. Tim, the manager takes pride in customer service...even personally drove us to local West Marine and K mart since the buses don't run on Sunday. Employee who lacked the customer service skills has been replaced. This is still THE place to stay for all the reasons listed by previous reviewers.

Nice Place -- We'll Be Back!!, 2015-06-27
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (270)

Echo recent reviews by other boaters. Extremely satisfied with our 2-day stay. Will definitely return.

always a good stop over., 2015-06-06
Captain: , Chester. Nova Scotia (191)

A great place to chill on your way south, or north.
Watch those pesky no-see-ums, they are pretty bad here and mosquito screens cannot stop them from coming inside your boat ( my only complaint).

Shady Trees and Friendly Folk, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Naples, FL (682)

What a find. Tucked away off the ICW, this marina is surrounded by large shady trees and close to parks. The local streets have sidewalks all shaded by huge trees that make for a cool and enjoyable walk to the beach area shops and restaurants. The marina itself has clean bathrooms and laundry that are handy to the docks. Marina staff were very helpful and responsive. We enjoyed our overnight stay

What's Hapened at Vero Beach?, 2015-05-15
Captain: , daytona (41)

What has happened to the Vero Marina?
After stopping here for many years today we found all the mooring bouys to be dirty and heavy with growth. They sent us to #40 only to find the pennant to be not just slimy with growth, but broken down to only about 3' long.
When we radioed the office the response was "look around and find one that should fit you" (we are 51' and they have only a few for over 50'). Anyway, we moved to another which I knew to allow us swing room only to find that pennant to be slimy and barnacle encrusted.
Going ashore it seems that the grounds and buildings are being neglected by a staff that spent all their time in the aircon office rather than maintaining.
Seems like some body has lost interest.

Nice area, protected marina but in need of maintenance and training, 2015-05-14
Captain: , Deerfield Beach, FL 33441 (60)

Arrived today, everything was fine until I examined my boat about an hour after docking. Found a 2 inch gouge on the starboard side about a foot from the water line that was caused by a bolt sticking out (not properly recessed) on finger pier (N15). My bad for not having proper fenders out while docking, however, the marina should fix the non-recessed bolt(s) and train its dock hands to try to keep the boat away from the finger (on N15 at least). There was no attempt to do so, thus the damage. The finger piers are narrow making side exit and entry more difficult. There was only one cleat on the finger pier, way up front. The staff was helpful in explaining all there is to do in the area.

More than delightful, 2015-05-07
Captain: , Buffalo, New York (1676)

The current exhibit (May 2015) at the Vero Beach Museum of Art is a MUST SEE --- engaging, interesting, and, thought provoking. A gem of a museum, in a beautiful part.

The previous reviews capture many of the virtues of the VB Municipal Marina mooring field. I was taken by the ease of which you can walk to the beach, and, to the mainland shopping areas (an easy two miles by bike or foot, with sidewalks!). The city makes life for a cruiser easy through easy access to all of the necessities.

Good Average Stop, 2015-05-05
Captain: , Auburn, Maine (396)

Steve Lunt. Kathie M. Auburn, Maine
Easy to reach off ICW. We came late, and were put on fuel dock, which was in good repair, with substantial fendered pilings. Bathrooms were spacious, clean, with good showers. Had none but phone contact, since we came late and left early, but very helpful and pleasant staff on phone. Very well protected. Would stay again.

Great stop needing more attentive management , 2015-04-06
Captain: , Solomons, MD (232)

Everything positive said about this marina's location and facility is true, if only it was better maintained.
The pump-out at the fuel dock hasn't worked for over a month, I was told, when I asked for a pump-out. If I could wait until Tuesday then the boat would come by.
There was no toilet paper in the men's toilet this morning and they are generally not kept sufficiently clean.
When you need something you have to search the docks for an attendant.
The 30 amp outlet for my slip was inoperative but I was able to use the one for the adjacent slip.
They don't have rolls of quarters in the office and the change machine in the laundry was empty. I was told that would be corrected in about 30 minutes but several hours later it still wasn't.
This Marina has definitely changed for the worse since the last time we were here in the fall.
The WIFI is sometimes fair but generally nonexistent .

Great staff, 2015-04-03
Captain: , Neptune Beach (41)

Stayed here for a week in March in the mooring field. You've got to raft up, but only because the city is extremely accommodating. Coming in late they happily left a map and everything I needed after hours. Leaving early they were eager to help with anything I needed. Good rates and a friendly, knowledgable staff. Can't beat it.

Vero Brach City Marina, 2015-03-23
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (346)

We stayed here March 20-21, 2015. We were put on the north face dock. One of the staff helped us tie up, and pay up. He was very efficient and pleasent. The mooring field was full; several boats were rafted together. The restrooms and lounge were clean. We enjoyed our stay there, and will go back again.

Halfway to Key West, 2015-03-18
Captain: , Varies - Home in Charlotte, NC (192)

We were here on January 5, 2015 for one night out on the face dock. Easy access from the intracoastal. The marina is well located for shopping and bus service. Older docks but well kept. Toilets and laundry were clean.

Great Stop, 2015-03-14

This was a really good spot to take a break - mooring ball was very easy grab with a floating rope just grab and cleat it off, the daily cost was very reasonable. Good spot to drop the dingy and putt around. Marina is set up for cruisers with a large dingy dock, good lounge and a ton of laundry facilities. Great stop.

A Great Cruiser's Stop, 2015-03-12
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

We spent one night on a mooring ball here on our way north. Have always heard that Vero Beach was a great cruiser's stop, and so it is! The mooring field was full overnight, but didn't have to raft with anyone. We had mooring #33 and had a good wifi signal all night. We happened to be there the same time as the Nina and Pinta so it was busy ashore, but fun to see. Nice walk over to the Atlantic beach and back. Didn't need to provision so didn't take advantage of the services available. We'll be back, fun place.

Great spot to stay., 2015-02-28
Captain: , Oriental, NC (150)

So many services available to get all the errands done. The local bus takes you to all the shopping and West Marine. Helpful staffl, laundry and showers. Only down side is the wifi doesn't reach out to the mooring field with enough signal strength. Always a favorite place.

always a great place to rest and reprovision, 2015-02-28
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

Because we have family here, we stop each time through but it would be a great stop without a reason too. Services and provisioning are eqasy and closely available. A free bus to anywhere is a high point. West Marine and Publix couldn't be easier to access.

Services important to know!, 2015-02-12
Captain: , Chesapeake (261)

Isn't it nice to find help along the way? Our generator's starter solenoid became very intermittent. Well I was directed to Atlantic Mobile Marine Service, Larry (772) 532-0616 (or Danny (772) 913-1686. They came right away, were knowledgeable, knew where to have the starter rebuilt, quickley, charged a fair labor amount and were alway prompt.

The marina is as advertised!

Velcro Beach - Vero Beach sticks to you, 2015-01-30
Captain: , Delaware city (80)

Loved this place. We were on a mooring for a little over a week and could have stayed longer! Friendly people, protected basin, great prices and easy and FREE access to downtown and the beach via the bus which stops at the marina. Although the facilities were not for the yachting set (no pool and basic bathrooms and showers) they were more than adequate for most boaters. We had to get a rental car twice due to a family emergency and Enterprise was always accomodating in picking us up, even at the last moment. Would highly recommend this place. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is that slips are very limited and if you need one there probably isn't one readily available. Hope they can expand those facilities in the future.

Nice area to explore; wifi painfully slow, 2015-01-20
Captain: , Annapolis (213)

We stayed in a slip for a week. Nice marina and facilities. Lots of cruisers here. Easy access and close to the ICW. Bus to town is convenient. A few nice restaurants and a nice beach. Night life seemed non-existent.

WiFi at the marina sometimes worked great, sometimes so-so and other times not at all. Frustrating.

Not sure exactly why this has been named "Velcro Beach." After a week I'm ready to keep cruising.

Stayed here 1/15 for 2 nights for first time and found a nice quiet spot. Internet worked fine, must be fixed, and all other services were great with a bus stop a gate. For us the only downfall is the rafring thing, had too many bad experinces, but they asked us about and did not push issue. Not sure I would leave boat here unattended because of that. Will use this again though.

Fallen out of love, 2015-01-08
Captain: , Trenton ON (658)

I think I have fallen out of love with VERO.

The Internet is still unreliable and impossible to connect to. This should not be so with a #1 Active Captain marina :(

We are on a powerboat and yes , we have a generator which we use when needed but some of the boats here leave theirs going for hours and hours till late at night with no one on the boat.

And then there are the folks who leave their furry friends alone while they go shopping and the dogs bark and bark and bark!!

Could the dingy dock be a little bigger?

I sound like a grumpy old woman but this was not a pleasant stay for us.

The marina should do something about their wifi and perhaps their guests could be a little more considerate.

The 3 stars are for the washrooms, laundry and free bus into town which we all do appreciate.

Good place to unwind, 2014-12-10
Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

Stayed on mooring for 2 nights. Staff helped us to get a good spot as our dinghy engine is toast. Took an easy bus ride to the beach.

Great place to unwind and meet fellow cruisers. Also willl stop here.
Less than $15/night on mooring ball.

Economical and great town, 2014-11-13
Captain: , Solomons, MD (195)

We stayed on a ball for two nights rafted with another cat (our choice). Rate was cheap and it was extremely calm and quiet. We were at the farthest north ball so zero WIFI coverage in the far of the north field which was a disappointment. Showers were clean--didn't use laundry but plenty of machines. Did not have any issues with dog noise luckily. Our buddy boat used the bus to the Publix and were very pleased. We walked to the beach in about 20 minutes--make sure you stop at Waldos while in town.

Unattended dogs, 2014-11-10
Captain: , Savannah, GA (10)

Took a mooring ball for a couple of days rest and relaxing. There are live aboards thwill leave there dogs unattended and on deack all day and into tthe night. These little dogs bark all day and night until the owners return. There was one boat that had two large and one small dog. Owners were gone from early morning until late that night. Cruisiers will also leave their dogs on board and allow them to remain on deck while they do whatever they do and go to the market. Many of these dogs yap until the owners return. Most dog owners are considerate of others but the few give can really ruin a nice anchorage.

There is a public park just south of the mariner and adjacent to the south mooring field. Locals bring numerous dogs to play. They bark and make a great deal of noise during the day and late afternoon.

I also placed a call the after hours number and am still waitng for it to be returned.

Great moorings, free bus rocks, 2014-11-06
Captain: , Charleston (400)

Stayed on a mooring in the south field for 4 nights while waiting for some mail to be delivered. Very little current so picking up the ball was easy. Instead of a pendant they have a rope attached to the ball that you can just cleat off. Dinghy dock is north of the marina, then go east down the little channel.

Nice facilities. Helpful staff. Free bus picks up at the dinghy dock and where the showers are. The number one bus picks up at the marina. Take it to the first stop to a Publix or West Marine Express. The bus will pick back up on the same side of the street as Publix at about 20 til the hour. If you need Walmart/Target/Lowes, take the #1 to the airport (transfer depot) and get on the #2. That will get you to the major shopping area. Also, you have to be able to carry everything on and off of the bus in one trip. We saw a guy with a bunch of groceries not be allowed on the bus because he couldn't carry it all at once (I had my arms full, couldn't help).

South of the marina there is a park, we just took the dinghy, that has good running trails and a small playground. If you like tennis they have about a million courts.

I've seen better places!, 2014-10-03
Captain: , Rochester, NH (10)

One of the best things about this marina has really nothing to do with the marina itself. That would be the awesome bus system that will bring you quickly to the grocery store or to west marine and many other places as well. The grounds are beautiful and the town is nice too.As for the amenities well ...I've seen alot better. The washers and dryers are the worst,of 6 washers only 2 work properly. When brought to the attention of the staff nothing is done about it...very frustating!!

We stayed in the mooring field and dinghied to shore. Some of the washers weren't working properly and the bathroom/shower facilities are somewhat small, but overall I loved this place. Took the free bus to the beach and shopping. Highly recommend and won't go south or north without stopping here again.

Now I Understand Why They Call it Velcro Beach..., 2014-06-16
Captain: , Placida, FL (276)

Stopped in and grabbed a ball "for a couple of nights" and ended up staying a week. Nice protected field, good dinghy dock and pretty good facilities ashore. Good rates and friendly, professional people.

Pumpouts twice weekly (on request - and you do have to be on board). The bus service was really handy and there's good access for reprovisioning. Nice beach too.

Our only complaint has to do with our location - We were assigned ball #19 which is right across from the fuel dock and close to the dinghy dock, BUT it is also right behind marker #7 which put our transom close to the mangroves and their resident carnivorous no-see-ums...

If we ever head back north on the ICW, we'll be sure to stop again.

Slips may be tight, 2014-06-08
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale FL (271)

We were lucky since slips were all reserved at the time we tried booking one, and we were assigned to the north mooring field. We would have probably been tight in most of their slips (16' beam). North field may be quieter than South and If you like paddle sports, it offers many great adjacent areas to explore. Echo the review on understaffed: when we were registering our young and willing attendant was juggling radio, pump out, fuel dock and our paperwork. Attitude was great though. For the price, could not demand for a speedier service!

Boater Friendly Town, 2014-05-23
Captain: , Midway,GA (261)

Agree with the good reviews. This is our second time here , spent a week on a mooring. Mooring field was about half full at most. Used the free bus lines quite often. Used our dingy to go to a couple near by resturants ( Dockside Grill happy hour 3-6 good food and a 10% boaters discount )

Journey, 44 ft, 3.5 ft draft, 2014-05-10
Captain: , lenoir city, tn (200)

Ditto to other reviews. We took a mooring ball which was AOK, but there was no multiple boats on a single ball. I doubt we would do that.

Staff very nice. We could see that fuel dock could be problematic in heavy traffic. Value for ball is sensational and very fair price. Doubt if we would want to double up on ball. Good anchorage north of mooring fields. Depth in 10 ft range. Surprised at very good food at Riverside, way above average.

Blue Angels May 10-11, 2014-05-03
Captain: , Essex, CT (223)

This is our tenth stay at Vero and always one of our favorite stops. Just when you think it can't get any better, the air show featuring the Blue Angels is coming to town 4 miles away at the Vero airport. Don't miss it if you are cruising nearby! Moorings are readily available this time of year; pickup is a 15'+ line floating in the water with no pickup buoy at the end. Tim and Paul were as capable as ever even though they were shorthanded. They even found a prime slip for us the next day so that we could keep the fur crew cool. This time of year the very efficient and prompt pumpout boat runs Tuesday and Thursday after 1300, signup in the office.
The bus still goes everywhere that you could possibly need to go but if you have your dingy in the water, head south under the bridge. To the east is Riverside Cafe with docks for dining. Keep going towards the large flag which marks an impressive Veterans Memorial Park, land at the mangrove beach or go around to the large boat ramp in Riverside Park. It says no docking but we tied up on the outside and had no problems. This is also close to the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
Cross back to the west side of the ICW and there is the excellent Lobster Shanty dock and dine. The canal just north of that leads to Mr. Manatee's Grill where oysters are $.59 each on Tuesday nights, tie up in slip 29 past all the Grady White boats.

canadian not welcome!!!, 2014-04-18
Captain: , mooney bay (136)

We stay 2 week in vero beach. We heard lots of local saying that they hate french canadian. When we decide to leave, we needed to go to service dock to re-fuel and check out. 2 other boat was taking the place on service dock. So we wait in front of the dock doing circle in front for 45 min. We where 3 canadian boat. Then a big cruiser yatch arrive and call the dock-hand and said that he need to pump 600 gallons of fuel. So the dock-hand tell him to stand by and by-pass us!!!! When i asked the dock-hand why he let thats happen he told me that it was like that here and if we dont like "go back to canada" . At least half of the mooring field was canadian...we will not come back again. Thank you vero beach marina!!

Great Stop, 2014-04-13
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

We spent three nights at the mooring field and had a blast the free county wide shuttle is excellent if not always on schedule. Great location for a walk to the Saturdays farmers market. The Hibiscus Festival was on while we were in town and that was great to. I can see why many people love to stop here and why the marina requires rafting up on the mooring field which didn't occur to us. Will definitely stop by here again but next time for much longer.

Captain: , Castine, ME (58529)

2014 update - stayed here a few more times. This time we noted free WiFi that reaches the mooring field. It's a great step. I'd like to see it faster but it's a start. There is also a pump out boat that will come out to your boat - nice. And the dog park is getting some funding and future improvements (fencing, maintenance, etc).

Who says a great place can't get even better?

2010 update - stayed here again. The staff is exceptional. This is a fantastic destination. The GoLine bus service makes it easy to get anything you need. There is now an off-leash dog park very close to the marina. Lots of local dogs are there - great new addition. I upgraded my rating from 4 to 5 stars in 2010.

Original review:
We stayed on the dock in April, 2005 and on a mooring in March, 2007. The facilities are exceptional. The personnel are friendly and helpful. There is a nice bus that takes you all around. The dinghy dock is well cared for.

The only minor complaint that I have is that WiFi should be available for free.

It was a very sad time for us on the mooring in 2007. We lost our dog Tucker to cancer quickly and unexpectedly while staying here.

Urge to stay longer is obvious., 2014-03-25
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

(3/15/2014) Enjoyed a great time in Vero. Fortunately we have good friends here also, so we didn't need the convenient bus service to see the sights and enjoy the good food at many nearby restuarants and yacht club or for reprovisioning. Tim, marina manager, very friendly, with plenty of help during the week. Weekend dock master was by himself trying to coordinate mooring/slip assignments, fueling etc.., but did an admirable job with the juggle. Within an hour of docking during first stay I bumped into Peter (local diver) who checked out my running gear first thing next morning. I suspected hitting something while pulling away from fuel dock at Roland Martin Marina on Lake Okeechobee. Peter confirmed my suspicion, which cut short our stay a few days so as to back- track to Cracker Boy Boat Works in Ft. Pierce to attend repairs. (See my glowing review of CBBW) We returned for one night on a mooring, and enjoyed that experience, and will likely use that option again some time. Easy dinghy ride to shore, dog friendly areas nearby too.

Great spot to spend some time, 2014-03-03
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

We only stayed in the moorings, but found this to be a great place. Marina staff are friendly and helpful, laundry and bathrooms are good. We found it quite peaceful in the north mooring field, and had manatees and dolphins visiting us.

The City has everything you need, and the free city bus is perfect to get you to it all.

Overall we really enjoyed our time here, and would definitely come back.

Nice Marina, 2014-02-16
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

Vero Beach City is very protected and just off the Atlantic ICW. Fixed docks. Fuel, pumpout, 6 washers and 6 dryers, clean restrooms and showers, boaters lounge, book exchange, 30 and 50 amp service. WIFI signal was good but we were near the marina office. Cable TV hookup did not work.
Fuel dock is small and can acommodate only one large boat or two small boats at a time.
No courtesy car but a bus comes by the marina on weekdays that will take you shopping areas. No provisions or restaurant but it is maybe 1/2 mile walk to Mulligans Bar and Grill which is right on the beach. Darn good marina for a day or a week.

Captain: , Savannah, GA (160)

Larry & Mimi, s/v Sweet Amelia Great place to build the "kitty" up as you go South to more expensive digs. Lots of green space with picnic areas and grills, covered by huge old oaks. Moorings priced right and good east/west protection. Theodora and Ralph at the dock were great, always welcoming and helpful. Pete cleaned our hull and replaced zinc - most reasonable we've found. Dog park next door, dingy dock crowded, but manageable as all tie up with a dingy's length of painter - so just juggle a couple to find a spot. Fantastic free bus takes you anywhere.

Vero Beach does it right, 2014-02-02
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

Moored in the south mooring field. Everything about was experience was positive! The people are friendly, the facility is immaculate, it's an easy walk (4 blocks) to the beach and restaurants. The town is upscale but not over priced. I can't believe we waited so long to visit Vero Beach, and at $14 a night for a mooring, it's a good value.

Lots to offer but...., 2014-01-30
Captain: , Atlantic Highlands, NJ (80)

Heard great things about Vero Beach, moorings at a good reasonable price, a free bus and plenty of places to provision. What more could you ask for? The showers tiles had mold growing on them and the bathrooms overall were just dirty. The laundry wasn't cheap $2.00 per load and were dirty and the dryers also $2.00 a load and not efficient. Not enough dinghy dock space.

Busy Marina for a reason, 2013-12-23
Captain: , Scottsdale (320)

We came in at dusk with no reservation, but they had a mooringball left in a shallow area that deeper keeled boats could not navigate to (very south end of the mooring feild near the bridge). The facilities were fine and the dockmaster very good with local knowledge. We left at first light with no problems goind in our out (4 ft. draft)

Vero is always a great spot, 2013-12-05

We always spend several days here on a mooring each fall and spring. The showers have been rejuvinated and the WiFi is great, it is a good place to receive packages and provision utilizing the free local bus service.

Mooring Field is Great; Slips not so much, 2013-11-30
Captain: , Solomons, MD (882)

We have stayed here several times and love the mooring field. The price is right, it is an opportunity to meet other cruisers, nice doinghy dock, the laundy is large, etc.

This time, however, we had to move into a slip to get some work done on our boat. We have a 52 foot boat; they put ius in a slip whose fairway was 60 feet across. Getting in and out was, at best, chgallenging. On ce we got in we found that the electrical pedestal for our slip did not work. Moreover, while there may have been some floating docks (as others have stated), ours was a fixed dock built low to the water so it appeared as if it were a floating dock. The infrastructure here is getting old; someone needs to make an investment in the place before it falls apart. Finally, the marina is grosly understaffed. The employees often do not return phone calls because they are so busy doing other things.

We would go back to the mooring field in a minute. But we won't go back to the slips.

Good facilities and good location, 2013-11-27
Captain: , cushing, maine (482)

Popular place for transient. Some liveaboards. Probably need reservations for a slip. Anchoring not permitted. Moorings available, but are limited in number; most boats are required to raft-up. Free bus runs to beach and town, right from end of dock. Pump-out at fuel dock or by boat if you put your name on list. Pump-outs Tuesday and Thursday only. Walk to beach and many shops and restaurants. Anything you want in town and a bus ride away. West Marine has good store here. Bus also runs out west of town to Walmart, Sams Club and other major stores. Docks are fixed but the tide range is negligible, except when wind is high. WiFi is free, but not that strong. Free cable TV. Decent heads, cheap coin laundry and a day room with a lot of stuff for the transient. Electric is $5 per day. Rates competitive with similar places. Very friendly staff. Tim is hard-working and always helpful.

Relatively nice, 2013-10-19
Captain: , Where ever the hook is (573)

The marina is very nice, and quiet. The floating docks are excellent, the mooring balls are ok except for the rafting up policy. We've been here three days so far and everyone is friendly the marina seems very secure and the dinghy dock is quite nice. The staff is thin, they are usually one deep so they are being run ragged trying to keep up woth all the demands so patience is essential, once you have their atteniton, they are great. The free bus into town, awesome and reliable. The wifi, haven't been able to find it yet even with my extender antenna. The clubhouse, sparse and needs updatiing. The bathrooms, could have cleaner floors but otherwise, they are clean. The laundry, great. The place is hard to get into at peak season but it is a nice marina and Vero is very nice, the way Florida used to be everywhere. The rates are better than elsewhere but I think $1.ft is the max anyone should charge, here it is $1.60/ft but elsewhere, it is North of $2. I'd come back for sure. They are shorthanded and probably won't be at the dock to help you tie up but then, if you really need help to tie YOUR boat up to a dock, you might want to get a mooring ball instead.

Cool Town thats all, 2013-09-12
Captain: , Southport, NC (706)

I was given instructions which dock to approach. As I got closer, I didnt see a dockhand. I called on the radio again and asked if I had the correct dock. I was greeted by a "I'm only one person and I'm trying to do three things". Exact words. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot. Maybe they are too busy for trans. boaters. The dockmaster was in the office. I guess he was busy too. When the dockhand was helping me tie up, he explained to me that this was his last day. He was getting layed off. City cut backs down sizing marina staff. Its true, they are having personnel problems, and it shows. I've never been to Vero so I wanted to visit. Its a shame they are the only act in town. I almost just said forget it and turned around to find another marina. We did however ride our bikes into town and got some icecream. I talked to some livaboards and they all seemed real nice. The docks are OK and the tide is very small. I wouldnt want to be in a slip being so narrow, so we are happy on a T dock. Next time I'll pass up this marina since they dont really want our business anyway.

A Great Surprise in Condo Alley, 2013-06-21
Captain: , Jersey City, NJ (190)

This was a hidden gem along Florida's Condo Coast. It is off the main waterway in a residential neighborhood lined by moss laden oaks. The marina office and grounds looks like something from the northern lakes. It is a fifteen minute walk to the Atlantic through the neighborhood. The docks are well maintained and the staff helpful.

Easy Location, 2013-06-17

Poorly Managed, 2013-06-06
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (115)

Arrived Vero Beach, from the Abaco's, on June 3rd. Nice location in a nice town, but the marina was understaffed and had poor knowledge of available slips and depth. The docks are average with fair mainenance and the bathrooms and captain's lounge could have been better maintained. There is a nice dockside restaurant in walking distance from the marina. I am not sure I would stop here again.

Excellent/good staff/many positives, 2013-06-04
Captain: , Sarasota FL (60)

Well run. Clean. Friendly staff. Easy in and out. Free pump out by boat twice a week. Nice town. Great public transport system. A very good stop for transients. Understandably popular and crowded in season. Use large, well organized mooring field if you can't get a slip.

Bad experience , 2013-05-20
Captain: , Denver CO (55)

We are 15' wide. BEWARE of narrow slips on north dock AND no pilings for protection from wooden edged finger pier. Vertical fenders are a necessity but tough to fit in 16' slip. We stopped on a Sunday at 5:30. We also had trouble raising anyone either by phone or VHF. Finally, part time dockhand was clueless.
We have had good experience in past but after this time it's unlikely we will dock there again.

Mooring field best deal around, 2013-05-17

Good city marina, 2013-05-07
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (880)

Old Florida location. Friendly folks. Lots of live-a-boards. We got the last slip, as this is a popular place. Mooring field in demand and may have another boat raft up to you. Protected harbor off ICW. Facilities ok-older but very clean. Laundry nice. Good restaurant within walking distance. Free trolley will pick you up and take around the city. Nice town.

Impressive marina, 2013-05-02
Captain: , Hilton Head Island, SC (377)

The staff at this marina is friendly and helpful, and I was impressed by the professionalism of the operation. They handed me a folder when I arrived at the office, and it contained a map of the area as well as many suggestions for places to go and things to see. My registration form was also in the folder, and it had been pre-completed so that just about all that was left for me to do was sign it.

The docks are better than most of the non-floating variety because the pilings are semi-imbedded in the walkways. This allows one to hang fenders vertically rather than try to line them up horizontally with each piling. That, along with minimal tide, makes for a safe and secure docking experience.

The men's bathroom is clean but in need of a spruce-up. It looks old and well worn.

I only spent one night here, but it was a very pleasant eperience, and I would definitely return if I was to be in the area again.

Good Spot, very protected, 2013-04-07
Captain: , Little River, SC (1967)

We intended to stay 2 nights but due to bad weather we were there for three in a slip. It was the last slip available and was quite difficult to get into. Narrow entrance and not much water but we made it fine. Our dock neighbors were extremely friendly and helpful. Nice clean facilities. The free bus is great. Many good restaurants and don't miss the Farmers market on Saturday mornings. The beach there is beautiful although it was very windy when we were there. We will return.

Wonderful!, 2013-04-02
Captain: , Melbourne, Florida (81)

Love this marina! Well protected, good mooring balls. The marina staff is friendly and helpful. The city bus comes to the marina hourly and will take you most anywhere you would like to go. Showers are clean, laundry is $2 each wash/dry. Hence the nickname "Velcro Beach" because it is so easy to stay here.

Real nice place, 2013-03-30
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (785)

Spent two nights on a mooring here. Good price, clean showers and restrooms and a boaters lounge. Bus picks you up at the marina and its free. The only disapointment was not seeing any manatees.

As good as ever, 2013-03-27
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (5607)

There are lots of positives well covered by other reviews. Some cautions:
- There is a current that runs through the marina, not bad but pay attention to it when docking
- Some of the slips are filling in, ask about the depth
- If you arrive during a high water event (strong east wind, new moon) be sure to place fenders so they are at water level - the concrete docks will be low.
- The concrete docks have a wood strip facing but the initially recessed bolts are no longer recessed due to wearing of the wood in places. Be careful.

The moorings have a single, floating line for pickup and securing to a cleat. It's very convenient and better, I think, than an eye that you have to thread your own line through.

Add in the free bus service to Publix, Walmart, WestMarine, restaurants, etc., and this facility meets all the requirements of a five star marina.

This marina meets all criteria for a five star rating.

Captain: , Oriental, N.C. (130)

Mooring is easy and simple. The facilities are first class. The bus service is really excellent and is what makes Vero Beach so desirable. The bus routes run all over the city and you can get virtually any where. Publix, West Marine, Walmart, Bob Evans, etc. The busses stay remarkably on time, and run on an hourly basis.

The beach is quite nice and has a long board walk and seveal restraunts.

A few problems, 2013-02-13
Captain: , Seabrook Island SC (30)

We had some problems with our reservation and we were put on a dock that really did not fit the boat or its electric needs. It just reminds me to call ahead before arrival when its getting late in the day.

Stayed a week , 2013-01-29
Captain: , Stillwater (10)

Stopped on our way south planning to spend a few nights to get fuel, provisions and do laundry. We ended up staying a week! Can't beat the price, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Shuttle bus service is free and runs hourly. There is a happy hour on Thursday, great opportunity to meet other sailors and exchange stories. Nice laundry facilities and lounge - another great place we met new friends and shared experiences. Will definitely be a stop for us each year.

There's a reason it's called Velcro Beach..., 2013-01-14
Captain: , Bristol, RI (431)

Enjoyed our 9 night stay here. We arrived after the holiday rush and did not have to raft, but that might have been fun. The price is right, the facilities are fine, can't beat a free bus for shopping and it's only about a mile or so walk to town.

Washers ok, some of the dryers dried better than others. Get the newer looking ones if you can. Pressure and temperature in the showers on the north side vary with toilet flushes, but not so much on the south side.

Lots of birds, dolphin, and fish jumping. We had a fish in the kayak one morningi. Saw otter, racoon, too. Great kayaking area.

Will definitely return if back in the area.

Cruiser friendly dock and mooring field, 2012-12-31
Captain: , Washington, DC (435)

We took a mooring for one night headed south. Because they knew we were leaving early they put is on a single mooring (no rafting). The ball had a new pennant and was clean and easy to access. We arrived in time for their Thursday Pot Luck/Happy Hour (don't miss it); We'd spend more time but it was getting cold...

One of our favorite Marinas! cozy but very busy marina, friendly people, Beach and Restaurants (try Lemon Tree or Tides) a bike ride away, free bus shuttle to Publix and West Marine Store, a huge Park with tennis courts close by

Cruiser Heaven, 2012-12-07
Captain: , Annapolis MD (310)

What else can be said for one of the most cruiser friendly places around? Mooring sharing was a little daunting at first, but we met wonderful people and the weekly cruiser happy hour on Thursday was a great way to meet people on moorings around us.

The free bus system makes life so easy to get provisioned, entertained, and to find parts. Just the best...we will probably join the ranks of cruisers who make this an annual destination.

A Bad Experience, 2012-11-27
Captain: , Pleasant Prairie, WI (40)

We called for a mooring reservation at 8:30 AM. Were told no problem and that we would have to raft which we expected. Upon approach to the marina they would not answer the radio. Tried the phone, got voicemail. Tried the radio again. No luck. Finally after 7 attempts they answer. They know nothing of our reservation but assign us to raft to another boat on a mooring. We get there, the boat is unoccupied and is in very poor condition. It has 2 fenders aft, nothing forward of that and cleats that are too small to tie our lines to. We call the marina again on 16, no response. Multiple attempts, no response. Finally decide to pull up to the fuel dock to try to get a different mooring assignment in person. There is a big wind blowing us off the dock and no one there to catch a line or assist. Finnally a guy comes out but is more interested in talking to a buddy on the dock than he is in helping us. After two attempts we decide to leave and go to Fort Pierce. Really poor service here - how can you not answer the radio? I know a lot of cruisers like this place and its cheap but we won't be back.

Vero Beach City Marina, 2012-11-26
Captain: , Bristol, RI (240)

Easy in easy out. We love being on moorings and this was the easiest one yet. Attached to the mooring was the perfect size polypropolene line that was clean and easy to attach to a cleat. We used this as a stop over. The staff was helpful, gave perfect directions to find the marina, and exact directions in the mooring field. The rest rooms were clean. Laundry room very good.

If you have to get sick...., 2012-07-30
Captain: , St Augustine, Fl (467)

If you have to get sick this is the place to be. Just after we toook a mooring in January i can down with a severe case of diverticulitus. I was so sick I could not get out of bed, Fire and resue came along side and took me off my boat onto their boat and brought me to shore where they had an ambulance waiting. Indian River medical center had me there for five days, and my wife was able to take the free bus every day to be with me. Great Service and experience from everyone I met. I cannot say enough great things about this area. Lets keep it clean for the future.

Well run municipal marina, 2012-06-30
Captain: , St. Petersburg FL (187)

Picked up a mooring ball, but when the mosquitos invaded and the genset conked out just after dark, we moved around to an empty slip and plugged in. Settled up with DM in the morning, who was most helpful. Well stocked ACE Hardware is a short walk. Riverside Cafe near to marina has a good mahi sandwich, caprese salad.

We stopped on our way down to the islands in 2010 and again 5/18/2012 on our way back north. Both times, we found it to be all that has been said by others on this site. Protected, Reasonable, Available shopping, if it only had an inlet it would be perfect.

Free bus to West Marine and grocery, very safe from wind, 2012-03-15
Captain: , Stuart, Florida (203)

We had a morring here for 10 days. It is calm and safe in any wind. They have a free bus that goes to the beach, to West Marine, Lowe's, Walmart, Publix. Great place with the lovely dog park that is leash free. Good clean facility and very friendly.

Free Bus and good book selection in Captain's lounge, 2012-03-04
Captain: , Georgetown (280)

Stayed here twice on mooring. Nice surroundings, quiet, large dingy dock. We had a great experience with the guy who does bottom cleaning. He did a great job inexpensively.

Easy moorings, 2012-02-04
Captain: , Houston (774)

Great facility with a great staff. Free bus system but you cannot take a scuba tank on the bus. Bus provides great access to stores. WiFi system is totally unreliable. Moorings have pendants that are long enoungh and easy to pick up. Several restaurants accessible by dingy. Mr Manatees and Dockside Grille are across the river south of the bridge and up the first and second canals.

Great one night stopover, 2012-02-04
Captain: , Sanford, FL (657)

Stopped here on our way south, Sunday(no bus), Jan 22, 2012. Mooring ball easy to hook to, quiet area, no problem with wifi, except it did fade out every so often, but reconnected automatically very quickly. Verizon wifi very strong and reliable. Pump out is free with mooring, and fuel is available.

Wonderful place, 2012-01-21
Captain: , Satellite Beach, FL (30)

Great stopover as all say.

My one quibble is that the free marina wifi is very off/on as to whether you'll get or stay connected. This is the second time I've been here where that was true. I've had the best luck immediately disconnecting when that happens, waiting 20 seconds or so and then retrying - sometimes it can take 10-15 tries.

Good Marina Delightful town, 2012-01-01
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

Spent 4 days here and throughly enjoyed ourselves. Space is limited at slips, in fact we got the last one available and it was a bit of a squeeze and very shallow. Very friendly, large mooring field that looked pretty full. Good, not great, showers, laundry and lounge. WiFi did not work where we were. There is a free shuttle bus that stops twice an hour M-Sat once to go to downtown and beach and once to go to Publix and mall. We ended up renting a car so we could take the dog to the beach and go to the movies. We had great weather which always helps a positive review! Quality shops in town, Farmers Market on Sat. morning. Lots of eateries in town from $-$$$.

Great stop, 2011-12-17
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

We always take a mooring ball when we stop here. Sometimes we're asked to raft up with another boat. The last couple times we've been by ourselves. Free (donations accepted) bus over to Publix, West Marine, Panera Bread, Marshall's etc. Transfer to get to the Mall/AMC Theatres. Easy, flat walk to the beach. Post Office and restaurants in town.

We enjoy this stop., 2011-11-30
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

11/26-11/29/11 We spent 4 days here. Always a great stop. Convenient mooring balls that are reasonably price @ 13.90 plus tax. Mooring balls are often with mutilple boats. A great walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. Free bus service to grocery, West Marine, restaurants and a variety of other store. A very cruiser friendly locale. Vero Beach Yacht Club is next door and welcomes all marina cruiser to visit and enjoy their facility. We had a great meal there and they also have a very friendly professional staff. We have had great success with repairs that we needed to have done in a timely manner.

Great Place, 2011-11-29
Captain: , Huron Ohio (547)

We stopped 11/15. A bit of confusion when coming in, as they tried to put us in a slip that was too narrow, but straightened it out quickly and we ended up on a T-head. They were busy as many boats were coming in early for Cruiser's Thanksgiving, but still very helpful.

Forced Rafting, 2011-11-27
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (588)

Nice place BUT they will force you to raft off with other boats. If I wanted a communal environment I would stay on a dock, with all of its conveniences. I wanted privacy. Also, I summited the application on their web site as instructed. I never heard from them. So I called the day before and they stated that they get 400 emails a day and they can not keep up with them. They did give us a reservation over the phone and never stated anything about rafting. Their web site (and active Captain) states that rafting is "encouraged", not forced.

Very Boater Friendly, 2011-11-23
Captain: , Branford, CT (900)

We came for 2-3 days and stayed 2 weeks.
A few tidbits:
* The handicap bathroom is large, with a sink, toilet & shower. Save water and shower with a friend.
* The trees around the lounge drop red berries. Check your shoes before reboarding
* If you have a car or can bum a ride, Marine Liquidators is about 15 miles south on Rt1. To me, better stuff and better organized than Sailorman in Ft Lauderdale. 8 acres of stuff.
* Again, with car, Chef Lins Asian buffet. About 3 miles south onRt 1. Lunch for 2 about $15.00. All you can eat. Not epicurian but decent. Stuff yourself for lunch and have a salad for dinner.

Just Excellent, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Daytona Beach, FL (533)

I have stay in both the marina and on the mooring balls and the result is the same -very happy with this place. It's professional and accomodating. Sometimes you get hooked up with some strange folks on the mooring balls when you have to raft up, but sometimes you meet some awesome folks as well. We will return over and over.

Beware Velcro Beach!, 2011-10-20

We stayed here on a ball for a while the last two winters. Very cruiser friendly. Public transportation the best we've ever seen. Beware, though... We ended up buying a condo here! ;^)

Love this place, 2011-08-14
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

We have stopped 4 times in the past 2 years. Until this stop in Aug., we had issue with one of the dockhands that worked for the city. He was unprofessional and rude. He no longer works there, This time, we met a most outstanding young man, Eric, who went out of his way to help us and make us feel welcome. What a nice change! This was our first time staying in the marina itself. The other times we stayed on a mooring ball. The marina is well kept, clean, and has great facilities in their bathrooms/showers, boaters lounge, and laundry. We always enjoy ourselves when we visit here.

Love Vero Beach Mooring Field, 2011-05-31
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1380)

Moving North Spent 8 nights from 5-16-11 on a mooring. Thorougly enjoyed this place. Vero Beach is very cruiser friendly. Everything you want is here including bus transportation right from the Marina to anything you can possibly want. Harbor Master Tim very Helpful. Office staff friendly and professional. Had a few days of Heavy Love Bugs that eventually migrated some distance North. Field had plenty of moorings did not have to raft up as we did on the way south. But that was Ok anyway. We definitely will be stopping again. Capt Helen and Cheif Engr Bob onboard ALLEZ

We stopped here on our way north and were pleasently surprised. Its out of the ICW and easy to get to. Its a smaller marina, but very personable. The dockmaster is very nice, the facilities and very nice, and it just has a look of home. It was very quiet and peaceful.

A good stop, 2011-05-11
Captain: , Knapps Narrows Md (450)

Spent the night here on our way north. Well protected and secure mooring field. No Anchoring. Mooring cost is only 14.87. You want to put out fenders if you leave boat as when they are busy, they put more than one boat on a mooring.

Excellent stop, 2011-05-08
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

5/8/11 Update: Mooring still $14.87. Has really good wifi now (especially with IslandPC unit) had 5Mbps d/l rate. Still a first class facility.
11/21/10 Update: Mooring still $14.87 Be prepared to raft up when things get crowded. Apparently wifi is in the works when the city and ATT can work it out.
5/3/10 Mooring $14.87 Have stayed here before - both slip and mooring. Very protected. Very easy dinghy travel - little traffic. Riverside Cafe (short walk) is above average. Wi-Fi availability would be a big plus to an already excellent facility.

A Wonderful Marina, 2011-03-13
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (227)

Our first experience was a year ago with a disgruntled employee and we wondered why everyone said this was such a boater friendly place. That employee is gone and things are great. Very friendly and professional staff. All the amenities. The city buses are free and go to Wal-Mart, Sams, Home Depot, and a great mall with movies so you can feel like an ordinary citizen again.

Other cities should use this as a model for what they might be.

There is a reason they call this place "Velcro Beach". The price is right on the mooring field, good transportation, friendly people, clean showers and laundry, WiFi and a captain's lounge. Great deal!

Captain: , Illinois (2422)

Great place. Free buses to nearly anywere. Friendly staff, clean showers and grounds. If really busy...they do assign later comers to raft...same price. Not usually a problem but you just don't know till you know. Very popular.

An excellent facility, 2011-01-30
Captain: , millsboro DE (300)

Stayed overnight here the facility is amazing the only down side is that it is not real close to off site ammenites I wouls have stayed an extra day but they were booked.

Overcrowded, 2010-12-22
Captain: , Seward, AK (130)

I know that everyone likes Vero Beach, and I understand why. There is plenty to like. My beef is that the prohibition on anchoring has resulted in this facility being overcrowded. Makes for a good social environment, which we enjoyed, but no space, no privacy, a bit of a hassle rafting up to a (nice) stranger. Overcrowded dinghy dock, staff seemed competent but very busy so not very personnal.

Free bus and shopping is great, very protected but there is potential for damage due to proximity to other boats, while rafting particularly. Fender generously on both sides.

In the interest of full disclosure, we were there on Thanksgiving, and Vero's cruiser population is probably at its zenith then.

We love stopping here! Three to a mooring ball gives you the opportunity to meet other cruisers...Laundry has 6 washers and 6 driers ($2.00). Huge dinghy dock where all the dinghies meet each other. The GoLine bus system is fantastic although it doesn't run after 5:30pm (in Nov).

Vero Beach Municipal, 2009-02-19

Nice marina. Well run. May not be possible, but try to get a slip on the north docks. South docks are on the other side of the yatch club and you have to walk thru there parking lot to get to the bathrooms and lounge.

Lots of cruisers. Free bus to beach and into stores in town.

Morring balls: rafting was not optional. If they are full they will put two or more on a mooring.

Great Mooring Location, 2009-01-06
Captain: , Stuart, FL (416)

Nice location, nice people, a long walk into town though, almost 1.7 miles. Riverside Cafe is 5 minute dinghy ride or 10 minute walk. Good, fun bar with loud music, nice quiet dining room with average food, resonably priced. It is on southeast corner of bridge with large dinghy dock. Waldo's downtown (America's last great hangout) is on beach and fun, but food is barely average. Still a fun place. Ocean Grill is near Waldo's and supposed to be a little better food, but I haven't been. $11/night to moor. Sometimes three or four boats on a mooring ball if crowded. I'l go back.

There is alot to say that is positive about this marina and I have heard little from other boaters about this gem. Staff really care and I think the city cares as well. There is a free bus to take you lots of places and there is plenty to do. The rates are also very reasonable. Skip some of the other places and spend some time here.

A short 4 block ride to the beach, or over the bridge to town. The Art Museum, the Riverside Theatre, and a Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary all within a mile or two.
