Reviews for Utsch's Marina
Great Place!, 2016-10-24
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (140)

We waited out the weather at this marina and it was perfect. When we arrived I went into pay for the slip and they gave us a welcome package of wine, cookies and homemade soap! I have never recieved gifts before ! The winds picked up to 40 knots so we were rocking but only due to the West winds. The facilities here are amazing and you are walking distance to the Victorian homes, shopping galore and all the restaurants you could ever want. I highly recommend this Marina. Great staff too!

Very Helpful & Great place to overnight or spend some time, 2016-09-27
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

2016 Sep24 Parts helped us coordinate with the local Onan dealer (Canyon Club) to get a needed part, while we were coming through. Thank you Utsch's! Cruisers and pets are always welcome. The marina's welcome package includes a rich variety of information for those wanting to spend a month and a bottle of Utsch's sweet red wind and hard bread slices for an immediate pleasure. We've only overnighted here, but it looks like a place to stay for a month with all the activities, and free transportation. We also noticed an Enterprise rental car is located here. The fuel rates are competitive, the in and out easy, and making reservations are always easy and welcoming. The rest rooms are clean and very nice with multiple stalls and showers. It is on our calendar to come back and stay a month, sometime in the future. Thank you Utsch's family & staff for taking good care of your marina and guests.

Good Value, 2016-09-20
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (5620)

With a mismatch in Delaware Bay tides (we wanted a following tide), we stayed for awhile.
- $2/ft which includes electricity and cable TV at no additional charge. For the cable TV you have to self-install a cable box but it's no big deal. If you stay 6 days, the 7th day is free.
- Excellent laundry facilities, commercial grade equipment.
- Good dockhands, they were there to meet us coming in.
- Great marine store, as good as many Westmarine stores.
- You can walk over to the first canal bridge to see the height gauge before you depart, important if you're a tight fit.
- Good, floating docks although they're flanked by two piling so you have to lay two fenders horizontally for piling protection.
- Usually the best fuel prices around.

- No pump out
- No courtesy car (five star marinas have courtesy cars)
- Some slips are more shallow than others. Our slip, #9, only had 2.8 ft at low tide. The slip next to us had 4.5 ft. Ask in advance if you have to leave at low tide to get under the bridges. We moved to a deeper slip the day before we left.

Rustic but good value, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South, MD (202)

The floating docks are a bit dated, but the staff are very friendly, and at $2/foot including electric the price is right for this location. The wifi only seems to work around the office area. The entrance channel through the bulkhead is a bit shallow -- we encountered less than 5 feet at MLW. The preferred approach seems to be to come in parallel to the breakwater leaving it about 20 feet to starboard, and then to make a sharp starboard turn at the entrance.

Update 7/12/2016. Utsch's appears to be making a determined effort to become more user friendly, with welcome packages, improved wifi, good slip rates and diesel prices, and ongoing dredging. The staff were most helpful.

No quiet retreat here, 2016-07-23
Captain: , Charleston, s.c. (70)

Satisfactory service here. But having stayed two nights, and having read through the reviews, it seems that Utsch's is not listening to its customers -- for example, lack of garbage receptacles, and those massive bathroom keys. One issue will keep us from coming back. Noise. For hours, boaters on D dock -- they seemed to be locals -- played their music at a volume such that it could be easily heard by at least the nearest 30-40 unfortunate boats. Fortunately, many of these boats were unoccupied. But a number of boats on the transient dock were. So I have one recommendation for Utsch's: listen to your customers. Read these reviews. Make the improvements. And one recommendation for transients: unless you like listening to loud music from across the fairway, avoid this Marina, especially on weekends, and until Utsch's indicates it is addressing this issue.

Great place for a breath, 2016-07-14
Captain: , Brookhaven, NY (366)

Stayed the night of 7/9/16, catching our breath from a southbound beating by Delaware Bay. very reasonable rates, clean bathrooms and showers over in the new building. Walked across the parking lot to the Lobster House for a fine meal. A very civilized break!
Gassed up Sunday morning, got ice blocks and cubes, and off we went. All for 2/ft!

Nice place to hole-up for a night, 2016-07-11
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (69)

My wife and I spent a Saturday night here on our "delivery cruise," taking our newly purchased 39' Sea Ray from Long Island to the Chesapeake. We were planning to go further that day, but because of weather we had delayed our departure that morning. I called them on the phone at 5pm on our approach to the Cape May inlet and was told they had a slip available and to call on VHF 16 or 9 when we were close. 20 minutes later I called and was given instructions to approach. Stay close to the bulkhead for the deepest water; I ventured a bit too far east and my sonor showed 1" under the keel.

A nice follow named Drew was waving from our assigned slip to guide us in and help with lines. They want all boats to dock bow-in. Nice floating piers except the pilings are on the outside so I needed to do some creative fender placement to protect the boat. At check-in I was given a swag bag with a bottle of wine and info about the marina and local area, very nice touch. The wife and I walked the 1/4-mile to the Lobster House, were seated immediately, and had a very nice meal.

We did not try the bathrooms or the laundry but supposedly they are very nice. There is no pump-out so I used the macerator to discharge 80 gallons of sewage into the harbor (just kidding). After some much-needed sleep we departed at 7am the next morning towards Delaware Bay to complete our journey. I highly recommend Utsch's Marina!

Great stop, 2016-06-24
Captain: , Blanco, TX (420)

Friendly folks and good facilities, easy access to several restaurants. Good stop after rough day on the Delaware and waiting for weather to head north. Would definitely stop here again. Didn't have depth issues coming in, but if low tide pay close attention to entrance directions from the marina.

Fantastic Marina, 2016-06-21
Captain: , Charleston, SC (180)

One of the best marina's we have seen in 35 years of boating. Faclities are not new, but floating concrete docks are substantial. Customer service beyond the norm. Gift bags, able dock hands and very friendly. Provided briefing on the commuinity and restaurants upon arrival. Would strongly rercommend.

Friendly staff, 2016-06-12
Captain: , Honolulu (531)

Harry on the dock and Wayne behind the desk are two of the nicest guys you will meet. The location is close to Cape May and Aarts taxi service will shuttle you out to Cape May lighthouse for a flat fee. One complaint is that thecruising guide advertised diesel repair service and Utsch's doesn't have it.

Great service, 2016-06-11
Captain: , Au Gres, MI (42)

We spent 3 nights here due to weather. Wonderful service, family like service. Shallow water on approach, but we had no problem and we draw about 4'.

Great Stop, 2016-06-08
Captain: , Lake Burton, GA (80)

Beat the weather in his morning. Very nice marina, can't beat the location. Fueled up and got good info for my run tomorrow to the C/D Canal. Everyone here is very helpful and friendly. Wish I could spend more time here.

Perfect stop over., 2016-06-01
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1459)

Friendly staff, best fuel prices, clean well run facility. Parts and repairs available and always a welcome smile and a goodie bag.

Family-owned, and it shows!, 2016-05-31
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (367)

We spent four nights here, including part of Memorial Day weekend. The best part is the knowledgeable and competent staff. If you take the time to talk with them, you'll find out they have a lot more to offer than a slip, water, and electricity. Slips are mandatory bow in, and they will provide very robust stairs for you to get to the floating docks (if you need them). They have a well-stocked tackle shop for fishers, and a ship's store for the boat. Take it slow and access is easy. Laundry facilities are first rate. Triple-load commercial washer is $3.75. Regular commercial washer is $2.75. Commercial dryers are $.25 for seven minutes and they do a great job of drying everything, including flannel sheets. No pump out; in fact nobody in Cape May had a working pump out while we were there. The Lobster House does not disappoint. They don't take reservations but a short walk across the gravel parking lot and you're there (and back).

Best value compared to other 1st choice marina's, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (1522)

5-24-16 The staff was very helpful and friendly, gave great directions on approach to avoid shallow water. Stay 20-30 ft off bulkhead of marina for deepest water.

Was not impressed with the marina at $2 foot, but a bargan compared to other 1st choice marina's in the area. Marina provided a welcome bag with area info and a bottle of wine. A nice laundry room but a pretty good hike from the dock. The highlight of our stay was the Lobster House, located across the lot from the marina.

Friendly and reasonable , 2016-05-15
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

this is our third time here, and it is true that it could be thin unless you call for directions to stay 20' off the bulkhead. If you are slow and spin carefully, you will have no problem. If you are over 5', avoid the low tide. Once inside you can easily dock yourself in an assigned transit dock because they close at 5:30 pm and open at 7. they will leave a shower key for you. Summer of 2015 they installed wifi repeaters and we were able to get it on our boat.
Great restaurant at the Lobster House next door.

Great friendly marina, 2016-04-23
Captain: , Bohemia Bay (20)

We stopped here one night on our way to the Chesapeake.
Wayne greeted us at the slip helping tie up.
Great guy very helpful. Bathrooms were clean and showers are hot.
Yes they didn't have any trash cans out but a dumpster is in the marina yard, not a big deal. Restaurants are within walking distance as is a Wawa store.

We Will Definitely be back , 2015-11-16
Captain: , Gloucester (70)

Nov. 9 -Nov. 15 2015
With rough weather at our heels, we called Utcsh's Marina. On the phone, the deckhand told us how to navigate a tricky entrance. Once we got there he very helpful with docking. Wayne, the man in the office was very friendly and informative
Friendly; even gave us a little welcome bag with a variety of treats in it.
Cape May is a beautiful little town with plenty of things to explore all in walking distance.
Reasonably priced, 7th night was free.
Private /clean showers.
The only real con. If you need to take a's expensive.

Nice little marina, low priced fuel, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Long Island, NY (204)

Best of the less expensive marinas during the week we traveled (Oct 2015). 2.00 per foot. Diesel $2.30 gallon, best local price. VERY shallow entrance at low tide, maybe 3- 3.5 feet. Follow markers to the red 16, then make a hard turn to port and follow about 30 feet off the bulkhead, then a sharp turn to starboard to get in. Transient slips along the left bulkhead, bow in. Floating docks, steps provided. Nice facilities, clean bathrooms. Laundry available but pricey at $3.50 a wash load. Easy walk to nearby restaurants. Pleasant walk to center of downtown, about 1.5 miles away.

Great Marina - Great Location, 2015-09-21
Captain: , Hull, MA (700)

Great Marina - We have stayed here before and will be back again. This is why:
1. Floating docks available
2. Clean AC restrooms, showers and laundry facilities
3.Bike renatls available $ 5 Half day/$ 10 Full Day
4. 2 Mile bike ride to beautiful sandy beches
5. Restaurant right next door with fresh fish market
6 $ 10 Cab ride to downtown ACME Market for provisions
7. Great stopover to tour Cape May-beautful town
8. Diesel $ 2.30/gal

When coming in from the Atlantic, start going up ICW and make a 90 degree turn to port at the red marker and stay 20-30 feet off the Utsch's Marina wall and enter at end of wall by lighthouse

No Garbage Bins? Unhelpful Dockhand, 2015-09-16
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (909)

Read the many favorable reviews of this family owned marina so we thought we'd give it a try rather than anchor out. Our visit got off to the wrong foot as we normally dock with tension on an midships after springline going to the outer most cleat on the dock - for some reason the dockhand didn't think we should dock that way so refused to put it on the cleat, even after repeatedly telling him to do so and even explaining why, so I finally had to jump off and take it from him. Sheesh! Staff were friendly though - good marine and fishing supplies right there. Yes, there is no soap in the bathroom at the sinks. Yes, the key cards are on a ridiculously large key chain. But not finding ANY trash receptacles ANYWHERE was a major PITA. We saw 6ft at the transient dock at low water.

No, it is not OK to not have soap for use when using the toilets, 2015-09-15
Captain: , Bay City, MI (609)

Utsch's could be a 4 so easily, as they have such wonderful staff, but a few things stuck under my craw as we spent 3 days there. Firstly and most importantly, where can you find a public toilet without soap to wash your hands? Only at Utsch's! When I complained, the gentleman on staff laughed and said people steal the soap! When I suggested they mount a soap dispenser, he looked at me like I was a rocket scientist and why would they do something so ridiculous! Still, I bet they won't do it.

Secondly, in order to use a "normal" size washer, the cost is $3.75. They have fancy washers, but who cares if it is fancy? Get the normal commercial washers and dryers and charge a normal price!

I'm not done! In order to use the toilet ANYWHERE, you need to use their key and it is attached to an 8 x 12 inch huge lighthouse on a long ring! Try and put that in your pocket.

Want more! The only toilets are up a set of treacherous steps OR you can walk to the beautiful bathrooms (with your key on your arm, of course) located as far from the main marina as you can go!

We won't be back, even if it is just for the lack of any soap in the toilet area. Oh, and I love advertising to the world, I'm going to the toilet!

Reliable and so friendly..., 2015-09-09
Captain: , Guilford, CT (120)

We always stop at Utsch's when traveling either north or south. Everyone is very competent and friendly, and they always make sure you are "tucked in" and comfortable. The only negatives I noticed this year were: there is absolutely not a patch of grass to be found for a dog to relieve himself - we had to go outside the marina by the road - and I noticed that there are no garbage cans anywhere near the slips. You have to take your trash clear over to where the dumpsters are where the boats are being stored. I sure wish they could change these two things...

How it should be done., 2015-09-07
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (768)

Two competent dock hands there to help with lines as you pull into to the slip. Friendly, courtious and competent people all around. Great head and showers. Beautiful town to tour. Got it all.

generations of family pride, 2015-08-20
Captain: , cruising (591)

It is easy to see how this family run marina earn their stars! We were first timers stopping with several other MTOA boats on a cruise to New York City from the bay. We were greated with a bag of "local knowledge" and a bottle of cranberry wine. Floating docks, friendly staff, and Ernie even shared some Utsch's Marina caps when he heard us singing happy birthday to one of our members under their shaded gazebo. Easy walk to trolley that takes you to the action. Their full service marina staff helped one of our boats that had to stay behind. We are stopping again on our way home!

Awesome marina!, 2015-08-08
Captain: , Mystic, CT (112)

We ended up at Utsch's marain after a failed attempt at one across from them. I'm sorry we didn't just choose them from the start and would not hesitate to return.

Staff is friendly, considerate, and always willing to help. Great welcome package too (wine was awesome). Soap and biscottie were a plus too.

Thank you so much for making our stay in Cape May a pleasant one. Your marina rocks!

Any port in the storm, 2015-08-07
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

After an all night anchor watch and three drags off the USCG anchorage we needed some TLC.
Called into Utsch's Marina and were pleasantly suprised at the very well run family business.
Clean facilities, good fuel prices, easy walk to the supermarket.
Unfortunately the only slip they had available for us was right next to the marina dredge.
Although they asked us if it was ok to run the dredge, which we agreed to, it was still very noisy and with no sleep the previous night, our early kip was disturbed by the noise.
So how suprised were we, when after we left, they called and left a message on my phone apologizing for the noise and refunding our docking fee.
These are people who care about their customers and their experience at their marina.
thank you!!!
we will return!

July Cruise stop over, 2015-07-29
Captain: , Forked River New Jersey (70)

A nice place to stop over. Staff was ready to help. The new facilities of sitting room showers and laundry make for a nice stay.

Great place to stay, 2015-07-21
Captain: , Bedford, NH (625)

We stayed July 15 to 17. Stayed an extra day due to rough seas along the Jersey Shore. Rented a car and drove to town and all along the shore. Great town, crowded with tourists during their high season. New bath house with excellent facilities. Private bathroom with shower. Large commercial laundry facility. A long walk from transient docks though. Must stay close to the wall on approach as water is very shallow otherwise. Good water at docks. Very helpful staff.

Great Spot to Stop In, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Sarnia (371)

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed a couple of nights to enjoy the town. Local restaurants have great food. Some do not offer alcoholic beverages so you can bring your own. Watch the entrance, from R16 turn south and stay 20 - 30 feet off the break wall. More than that will catch you on the shallow area.

Ditto Cap'n Malcom, 2015-07-01
Captain: , Baltimore (180)

Turning is tight for a sailboat, got to stay real close to the dock coming in.

Good stop in Cape May, 2015-06-13
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

June 2015
Still the same good place, though the water in some of the slips has gotten a little skinny. Pleasant, friendly staff, always willing to help. Price and location, make it hard to beat.

Always firendly, competent and helpful staff; good fuel prices. Well protected marina with no current inside the wave walls. Easy access to restaurants. Always a nice place to visit.

Nice folks and less expensive than others in Cape May. Tricky enternce. Docks could use some updating. Solid power and good water. We've stayed there three times and will be back.

Great Stop, 2015-06-13
Captain: , Westerly, RI (50)

Ended up in Utchs after a mechnical issue. Staff was very helpful and accomodating. Suggested a great mechnical service company Mid Coast Marine.
Mark at Mid Coast came to the boat proptly to dianois the propblem, ordered the parts and scheduled the repair work with the yard, needing the boat lifted out of the water. Mark was courteous and professional.
I would recommend Utch's and Mid-Coast Marine to anyone in the area.

Great Marina, 2015-06-12
Captain: , Eau Gallie, Florida (140)

Can not say enough positive things about this marina. We really enjoyed our stay here. Ernie and Charlie are the most practical and down to earth marina owners I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Having coffee in the morning with Fred and Ernie and learning the history of the marina and Cape May has truly enriched our experience of doing the loop. Wayne and Debbie in the office truly care and do everything they can to make the stay enjoyable.
We met many great people with boats in the marina. Everyone was very friendly and helpfull.

Nice stop......., 2015-06-10
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed here the nights of 5/23/15 - 5/25/15. Staff was great - talked us in, helped us tie up - even gave us a nice goody bag of treats/info as we came in. About a mile walk to the grocery (not bad going down empty handed - used Uber coming back with bags of groceries). Got a good $ on 6 gallons of engine oil.

Lobster house nearby meh - as the Uber guy said, more of a factory than a restaurant. Better to walk south about 1.5 miles to the pedestrian mall - great walk by beautiful victorian houses and good restaurants there.

Nice place and great staff, 2015-06-05
Captain: , Venice (589)

The only drawback here is the narrow entrance and slips, makes docking a bit of a challenge but the staff are great. Excellent and private showers, laundry is expensive but works good. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. Easy bike ride to West Marine and stores. Enterprise rental car will pick you up. Cape May is great town to spend some time in.

Great marina and helpful dock crew, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Holland Michigan (60)

Wonderful facilities and very helpful crew. The Lobster House restaurant is an icon and well deserving of its longetivity. Loved the food and the place. We loved the casual atmosphere of this marina and were glad we stayed there.

BEST STOP BY FAR to/from Chesapeake to North East, 2015-05-27
Captain: , Glen Cove, NY (281)

Always stop here going and coming to Chesapeake Bay via C & D canal. Very helpful staff and they go the extra mile to help make you feel welcome...part of their family! New laundry facility is beautiful, albeit a bit removed from Transient area. Convenient to the better restaurants. We draw six feet and had no problem so long as you follow their directions for entrance to basin. There may be fancier marinas in Cape May; but none that make this sailor more happy each and every time we visit!

Good stop for run north, 2015-05-27
Captain: , Haiku, HI (251)

Only issue here is maneuvering room, everything else is fine. We stayed there in 2008 and again just now and it was good both times.

Couldn't have been more pleased, 2015-05-04
Captain: , Delawre City, DE (10)

I wholeheartedly concur with the other reviwers who gave them 4 or 5 stars. It's a working marina with a number of tugs and other equipment spread around the marina. But that adds to the charm. Staff were wonderful. Only slight problem was fitting out 53' Carver into a tight slip. But we got in and out without a scratch.

Highly Recommended, 2014-11-14
Captain: , Ludington MI (70)

Excellent personal service provided by Ernie and Staff. Approach was up to marker 16 and turn in along wall.... dredging was taking place, but plenty of room. Excellent ship store and location. New shower and laundy building as nice as any countyclub. Large marina with a small town feel. Not a lot of grass for dogs.... but lots of undeveloped space for dogs to explore and staff very dog friendly. Welcome package was a pleasant suprise with wine and biscotti from local bakery. Excellent! Easy walking distance to eats.... we chose the Lucky ____ across the street and had the clam pizzia and calimari... thin crust and excellent!!
Dredge was working as we left, but promply moved so we could get past.

Great stop over spot, 2014-10-30
Captain: , Tuckerton, NJ (53)

Utsch's marina could not be more accomidating. If your coming in late as long as you call ahead they with assing you a slip and leave a key for the show room available for you to pick up. Well protected easy to reach and walking distance to great breakfast and dinner spot, a short bike ride to down town Cape May.

Very Good Transient Stop., 2014-10-29
Captain: , South Bend, IN (10)

We've been here twice and had a good visit both times. Great fuel prices, facilities and close by supplies within walking, bus or taxi service. Plan to come back.

well run friendly place, 2014-10-15

great staff helped us tied and make sure we had everything we needed.
We checked in and got a gift back with wine biscotti news paper etc.
Clean well run facility with a family feel and excellent staff

Great Marina, wonderful time, 2014-10-13
Captain: , sv Averi (653)

We stayed here two nights on our way south. At high tide the depths are fine and even at low tide we were clear of the bottom with a 5' draft. (Still in spring tides, -0.4 ft.) The staff was responsive, friendly, informative and extremely helpful, we about felt like family. The restrooms were clean and the showers hot! The ships store was better supplied than many WMs I have seen and the tackle store a sight to behold! If you don’t see what you need, ask, they have more in back. We received a gift bag with wine, biscotti, soap and local information, never got that before. Coffee (free) is hot and ready at about 7:00a. We were off season and paid $2/ft. this includes electric. They have fuel at reasonable prices ($3.69/gal 10-13-14) and are close to some good restaurants. At $10 a day, their bike rentals are reasonable and get you to the grocery and around town. If they had pump out I would give them 5 stars and if the clean and newish laundry (with industrial size machines) were a tad less expensive, I would give them a 6. All in all, a very nice experience.
When entering, follow the canal bridge channel until you are almost in line with their sea wall and turn in staying 30-40 feet off the wall. Use caution and slow speeds, the bottom comes up pretty quick if you wander out to the SE.

Really a nice place to stay, 2014-10-12

We did the first night at the anchorage at the CG station. Three boats when we anchored, fifteen boats by the evening. The following evening we decided came in to Utsch's and are glad we did. Friendly staff and we didn't bottom out at dead low tide even with our 3'9" draft (but we were close).

Didn't get to try the Lobster House as we didn't think we would need reservations late in the season even though it was Saturday. Wrong. Ended up at Tony's Pizza. Any port in a storm (Tony's, that is). It was actually pretty good although the inside could use a coat of paint.

Stay for a week, 2014-10-10
Captain: , Solomons Island Md (397)

Extended our stay due to weather and enjoyed everyday. The location is an easy bike ride to the historic beachfront. We didnt study the instuctions for entrance and got lost coming in. We entered straight off R2 into the fairway entrance. Luckly Utschs staff gave us directions and said we would be ok with our 3.5' draft at high tide. The facilities are very good. We got the 7th night free.

A terrific Marina and Fun Town to Visit, 2014-10-04
Captain: , Essex (140)

Stayed 3 nights. Wayne the dock hand was always available and very helpful. Transient sllips are all bow in along the dock wall deep into the marina. This provides a quiet location, good protection and close to all marina services. Bathroom/shower facilities were very clean.
An excellent chandlery can be found immediately across the highway from the marina.
The Lobster House provides an excellent fish store. It also has two dining areas. The outside area is for causal dining with a very restrictive menu while the inside dining room is full service.
The Cape May downtown mall is very quaint and comprises of a 3 block area closed to traffic with shops and dining located in old victorian homes.

Wonderful Marina and Beautiful Town, 2014-10-01
Captain: , Clayton, NY (645)

We had 2 long days in our trawler coming from Ossining on the Hudson. We wanted a day to chill so we spent 2 nights here. Wayne and Wayne were very helpful bringing us into our slip. Depths are 5-6' on the entrance so follow their directions carefully. We draw 4'2 and had no problems. Good electricity, wifi good in the morning but bad in the evening. The gift bag was truly a plus with locally made soap and a personal bottle of wine. The Acme grocery was about 1.3mi south on the main road. It is in an open street mall with several cute shops. It was a wonderful place to spend a land day.

Really liked this place, 2014-09-30
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (523)

The people running this place are very nice and welcoming. The restrooms and showers are clean and very nice. We would certainly stay here again. It is close to lots of restaurants and a West Marine. Across the parking lot you can go to the Lobster House to eat or pick out fresh seafood for carry out back to your boat. Take advantage of the carryout.

One of the Best, 2014-09-19
Captain: , Christmas Cove ME (120)

We have stopped here for years on the way South and back. Had a stuffing box problem once that they repaired for us in record time. Welcome bag contains a bottle of their family brand blueberry or cranberry wine. Fuel price is always good and the crew always pleasant and helpful.

Utsch's Marina, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Boston (10)

Friendly staff, Fuel, Clean Showers, supplies. Great Place to stay in Cape May. Little tricky access......stay close to the sea wall, then a quick turn to starboard by the little lighthouse. Would stay here again

Excellent Value, 2014-09-13
Captain: , Stuart FL (478)

This is a family-owned marina, opened in the early 50s, that has evolved since then. It's not perfect but that's its charm. There's everything you need, including clean showers (!!!), and the staff could not be more helpful and accommodating. There's even a pot of coffee ready in the Bait Shop by 0700. Our 27' sailboat has stopped there 4 times, several nights each, waiting for weather. The boat looks out of place here but everyone has made us feel welcomed.

Truly 5 star, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (185)

Great staff, great facilities including well stocked marina and ship's store.
The only complaint I had was that I was put in a slip immediately behind the fuel dock, and the fuel sign stayed brightly lit all night.

Great tackel shop, 2014-09-02
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

This marina is well protected with a lot of boat supplies.
Its bait and tackel shop is one of the best that I have been in.

Good quiet calm water stop over, 2014-08-02
Captain: , Ottawa (303)

Welcome mat was out. Helped into a slip. Welcome bag of goodies. A quiet nights rest. Decided to stay a second day and explore, do the beaches, etc. Laundry and faciliites were good and clean. Had dinner at the nearby Lobster House. Unbelivably good dinner. The marine store is limited but others are around. Groceries are a bit of hike but easy on a bike (which they rent). Internet was sketchy at best but free. Internet Cafe in town had high speed.

Good fishing opportunities, 2014-07-28
Captain: , Kelso, Wa. (834)

Came in on a Friday, stayed for a couple of days on C dock. Treated well, long walk to dumpster. Lot of fishing traffic, everyone smiling, saw some nice catches.
5 Marine supply stores in walking distance.

Captain Joe, 2014-06-29
Captain: , Charleston (70)

Not a repeat. The slips are shallow at low tide. If your draft is more than 4 feet you will rest in the mud at low low. Dock hands were adequate. The place was grubby. We have stayed at Canyon Club on the other side of the canal and there is no comparison. I am not certain that this marina deserves a "first choice" by Active Captain. The shore water was horrible. Some shore power terminals worked. Others did not.

A good stop in a nice town, 2014-06-19
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

Early June 2014

Stayed two nights. Good restrooms and showers. Good fuel price. A bottle of blueberry wine in the welcome package. Good price.
We spent a day biking around Cape May going to CVS, Ace Hardware, Acme Grocery, the post office, ice cream, and a bakery. After getting the stuff back to the boat, we biked back downtown and rode through the older neighborhoods and did the evening concert in the park.
Take out at the Lobster House is much less than inside service; just carry it back to the boat.

Nice Stop, 2014-06-17
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, Fl (410)

Entrance can be tricky if its windy. Staff was very helpful docking. Good restaurants within walking distance. Clean restrooms.

Great city to visit, 2014-06-08
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (361)

I had no expectations of Cape May and was pleasantly surprised. We bicycled a lot. It is very easy to get around.
The downtown area is very vibrant and a trolley tour was interesting and well worth the time and money.
The marina staff did an acceptable job considering we came in with four boats all together.

Enjoyable stay, 2014-06-05
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (110)

The have nice bath house and everything else was good. They don't have a pump out. We had one of the best meals we have had on the ICW at the Lobster House accross the street. The town is bicycle accessable.

Great Place To Wait The Weather, 2014-06-05
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

This was our second time here. Wayne and staff are really helpful and welcoming. Great ship's store, bait and tackle shop (almost puts Bas Pro Shops to shame), and location to Cape May. A pump out would get them a 5 star rating.

Friendly Place, 2014-05-18
Captain: , Auburn, Maine (396)

Steve Lunt on Kathie M
Stayed night of 5-17-14. Firstly, Wayne is just a great guy, and a real pleasure to deal with. Entrance a bit interesting, and fairways are not overly generous, but manageable. They will guide you in attentively. Once in, you are about as secure as possible. Heads/ showers clean and modern, fuel very competitive. Restaurants nearby, although we had a very long wait at Lobster House, and good, not great, food. Overall, a real keeper.

Loved being rained in at Utsch's, 2014-05-03
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

We arrived at Utsch's on a Monday and then was rained in for the next 4 days.

Super nice staff, great prices on Diesel ($3.79) compared to other places in the area. No pump out but everything else. We paid $2/foot with electric. We were on a floating dock with great access to the store and the laundry facilities.

On-site boat store with all the parts you could need. The fishing store rivals out Outdoor World for selection.

Walking distance to a Wawa and four really nice eateries. (Make sure you get to the C-view!)

They were dreging the basin when we were there and one of the owners took the time to explain how it worked and about their 1950's dredger. Very cool.

Highly recommended!

our best experience in Cape May, 2014-01-22
Captain: , Shelburne, VT (120)

We enjoyed the 2 days spent at this marina. Staff was helpful. New showers and washers. Free newspaper and apples and bottle of wine. It was a tricky entrance but doable with assistance on VHF. A great seafood restaurant next door too.

Comfortable and welcoming to sailboats, 2013-12-24
Captain: , Maine (639)

My 40 foot sailboat and a buddy boat (47ft) both stay here this summer on our passages from NY to Annapolis and back. We were treated as long time friends and the dock hands were very competant nudging us into or slips. A safe place and walking distance to good resturantants and sites. We rented a car and left it at the marina for them to pick up without fuss.

Northermost Southern Hospitality, 2013-11-12
Captain: , Narragansett RI (234)

Coming south, this is the first marina place that we really enjoy staying. North from here (Manasquan, etc), it's all business. Here you are greeted by friendly folks, the docks are comfortable and protected, a pair of friendly cats are washing their paws in front of the office and all seems well. Friendly check in, a surprise of a bottle of local wine and some other goodies is offered, and fuel is reasonably priced. We had Enterprise pick us up for a car rental so we could explore further than bicycle and we were picked up within ten minutes of calling. You can rent bikes here and Cape May is very bicycle friendl, being flat as far as the eye can see. Good food within walking distance (don't miss the Lobster House, and make sure you buy some smoked tuna at the fish store there, trust me on this). The best value at the Lobster House is the small "diner area" at the far right of the building. West Marine within walking distance, but try the good ships store at the marina first (let's support local small businesses pleae!). Heads are clean and neat, laundry is available as well. Plenty of places to explore with your tender or kayak if you are so inclined. All in all if you want a family run friendly place to spend some time, with zero stress and a relaxed surrounding then this is the spot in Cape May. When it's time to depart the canal is 100 yards away.

Warm Welcoming to transients, 2013-11-03

Friendly Quite Marina, 2013-09-26
Captain: , Comox, BC Canada (101)

Lot's of water under keel and had a goodie bag of stuff for us on check-in including a bottle of wine. Very quite and the bathrooms are very clean with great washer/dryer's on site. The biggest draw back for us is the wifi signal that is very much hit or miss, we received other marina wifi signals stronger then there's but there are password protected. Had a great stay and rented bikes to visit a fantastic town.

A Very Nice Experience, 2013-09-07
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

In june 2013, we stopped for a rest and some to do list items. Two hands greeted us with dock steps and even dock lines. The staff is professional, coiN jUNE 2103urteous and very helpful. The new laundry/shower house is very nice. A goiod stop close to several restaurants and West Marine just over the bridge.

Update: 9/7/13- great stop at a fair price for the area. Staff is very friendly and the ships store most helpful with a good inventory of real necessities.

Nice Place to Stay, 2013-09-05
Captain: , Rock Hall (40)

We stayed at Utsch's for two nights the staff was very nice. We had a problems with our thermostat on our westerbeke. Even though they they did not have any parts or manuals for our engine. The man in the parts department took the time to find the best match for my part. Also the welcome bag was nice with a bottle of local wine and cookies. We will stay here again next time we take a trip to Cape May.

Accomodating Location, 2013-08-24
Captain: , Baltimore (60)

We found this facility to be a fairly tight fit but friendly & accomodating for travelers. Gas and diesel fuel were readily available but we were disappointed the pump-out was out of order since Sandy. Floating docks with steps are a comfort, dock hands were right there when you needed them and the showers and restrooms were excellent. Lots of booms and cranes in the harbor at this time so entry/exit was a bit tedious but that will soon change for the better.

Tricky Approach - Congenial Staff, 2013-08-22
Captain: , Rochester, NY (493)

If you've got 6' or more draft, get someone to guide you in, even during high tide! The tricky approach might make this a Four Star were it not for the friendly, helpful staff. We hid here from storms for a couple days and were very pleased with the accomodations all in all.

Especially endearing was the Welcome Bag, containiing a bottle of Utsch's Cranberry Wine, some fancy biscotti and a hoity-toity bar of soap - a first for us!

No current!, 2013-08-20
Captain: , Washington, DC (447)

The lack of tidal flow is what differentiates this marina from South Jersey Marina. Both are very well run and within walking distance to downtown Cape May. Maximum boat size to be inside their breakwater is about 60 feet. And yes, $2 per foot INCLUDING electric is nice too.

Great centrally located spot at a fair price, 2013-07-19
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

Staff is great--very friendly. Close to all amenties. Floating wooden docks are a little dated, but no real issues. No issues with our 5 ft draft but didn't pay close attention to my sounder to monitor actual depth. We will stop here again.

Good spot for reprovisioning and planning next leg, 2013-07-03
Captain: , Mashpee River (507)

Incredibly well placed. Eveything a boater might need is in walking disatnce. Staff is friendly and helpful. Only downside is wireless is flukey.

Good place to position for outside run. , 2013-06-29
Captain: , North Carolina (344)

Stayed here three nights in mid-June waiting for a weather window to run outside.

Wayne met us at the dock and helped us to tie up. They provided steps so we didn't have to use our own.

Restaurants and a grocery store (Acme Mkt)are close by. Taxi service is available. We walked to the grocery store and then had a cab pick us up to go back with the groceries.

Be sure to try the Lobster House for dinner. It can be a bit confusing when you go there but the food was worth it. We ordered at the fish market and then took our food outside to eat at the tables provided on the dock.

You can also buy fresh fish at the fish market and cook it your way.

Good Experience, 2013-06-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

We stayed here one night in mid June on our way to NYC. Great instructions on how to approach the marina from the Cape May Canal. Marina entrance is very narrow between the sea walls. Be careful when turning into the entrance to be sure no boats are coming out. Fuel dock was tricky as you have to actually pull bow-in into a slip to take on fuel. Transient slips are also bow-in. Lots of boat traffic inside the harbor, especially in the transient slip fairway. Staff was great - very friendly and accommodating. Very helpful in docking. Transient docks are wood and floating. Very convenient. Location is very close to restaurants and services. Lobster House Restaurant is just across Utch's gravel lot. A must eat place! We enjoyed our stay at this marina!

Extremely helpful staff, easy walk to restaurants, easy bike ride to Cape May village. We were holed up for three days on Memorial Day weekend waiting for TS Andrea to blow by and I can't think of any safer and more accommodating place to be.

Very Pleased, 2013-05-26
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

We called and made a reservation a couple of days in advance and they were expecting us that day with 2 dockhands waiting for us at the dock. They had a couple of sets of their own steps already on the dock, so we did not have to get ours out. Floating docks - they do require you to nose in for extremely low tides when they occur. Restrooms and showers were spotless and cleaned at least daily. As good a location as any of the other marinas regarding proximity to attractions and town. Bikes help if you want access to the beach and main shopping areas about 1 1/2 miles away. Ames is the grocery store for big groceries between Washington and Lafayette at Ocean Blvd. Lobster House is a block away for all of your seafood needs. Utsch's does have WIFI but it does not reach all of the slips. Apparently they have struggled with the cable company to resolve some cable issues but after trying 2 cable boxes ours worked great with lots of channel choices. Their price is very competitive for this area and we were very protected from howling winds for three days (stayed a total of 6). They offer the 7th day free after 6 but we needed to move on. If you have to be stuck somewhere, Utsch's is the place. The manager is very interested in ensuring the customers are happy - that is worth a lot to us knowing they care and try to accommodate your requests and needs.

Don't go here!, 2013-02-17
Captain: , Manakin-Sabot Virginia (11)

We got a slip here on the way down the coast last spring and had a very hard time even getting in our slip because the fairways/isles are to close together and out boat was only 32 feet. While signing in we saw a nice enought shower/rest room inside the warm office but were told the were closed to the public! We could use the porta-potty out in the freezing cold! Never again.

Lucked out during Sandy, 2012-12-21
Captain: , Bristol, RI (431)

We arrived Oct 25, 2012 to find out that Sandy was headed towards NJ. Looked at all options and decided to stay. They couldn't haul our 45' sailboat, so we spent the next two days stripping and securing her. Turned out the marina faired will during this storm and there was no damage.

It is a shallow entry - we draw 5' and had no problem. It was tight getting into the transient slip, but with a bit of maneuvering, we did fine. At check in, we got a goody bag - nice touch. Bathrooms were clean, but cold. Had to wait quite a while for hot water in the showers. The Lobster House is a short walk away - good old-fashioned Cape May restaurant.

Too tight and too shallow, 2012-11-16
Captain: , Roseville MN (398)

VERY little room between the docks to turn a boat, and finger piers which were so short that we had to climb over our anchor to get on or off - not fun! Tricky entrance with not much depth. Long walk to the rest rooms or into town. Cape May was nice, the marina was not.

Holed up here during the recent storm. I did not stay aboard. Their professional preparation for the storm and the care taken was greatly appreciated.

Good port in a storm, 2012-10-31
Captain: , Brightlingsea, UK (202)

Hurricane Sandy went right over the top of us and the conditions were pretty horrific. But no damage to boats ashore or afloat. Storm surge was nearly 10 feet and there was still over 2 feet to go on the piles. Staff brilliant and marina clean. Helpful marine stores. Walk to a restaurant. Cycle to the town center. I would trust my boat with them.

Good, but.., 2012-10-24
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (624)

Yes, this is a great location and we love Cape May. It's big fun riding our bikes through the endless victorian parade of homes. This is a large well run marina.

So what's up with the lack of a pumpout? When I called for a berth entering the harbor I requested a pumpout prior to going to my slip. I was told the pumpout hadn't been working for "two months"!!

Upon tying up I asked what's up with that and was told that Cape May is at the "end of the earth" and that it takes forever to get anything. Gee, I didn't know UPS and FedEx don't deliver to Cape May. Please excuse my sarcasm, but really.

You know, this is the third time in two years that we've stayed here and the pumpout has been non-functional all three times.

So this is large marina with a ton of boats. What are all those boats doing with their waste?

Anyway not to be all negative, the place is clean and looks to be very well organized and well run. So how about putting a little energy into fixing the pump out?

Good Value - Good People, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Michigan City (349)

Stayed her 8/28/12 and 8/29/12. As with all the other reviews, it is a little tricky getting in but was well protected and the people were very friendly and accomodating. Even got a welcome package that included a bottle of wine! The restaurants around the marina were excellent but the shuttle system to the downtown area was very unreliable and the stops are poorly marked. Convenience store was short walking distance away.

Captain: , Wall, NJ (420)

Made a long run from Barnegat to Cape May. Called the marina and they were very helpful getting us a slip. You must dock bow first in most of their transient slips as they are shallow. Not a feal problem for most folks. Very friendly and helpful. Showers were clean and they had just repaired the Air conditioners and they were working to catch up due to the high heat we were having over the 4th of July holidays. Returned to the marina a week later on our return trip and they had all our info right at their finger tips. No hassels.

Captain: , Cleveland, OHio (421)

We were travelling from Atlantic city and choose to stay at Utsch's Marinal. good price but better people. Cape May is a great town to visit fo a couple of days break in travelling either south or north.

Special thanks to Wade and to Debbie. Debbie has a great welcome gift package for boaters, in fact it is the best gift pack we have received in two plus years of cruising.

Come see Cape May and stay at Utsch's.

Captain: , Wiscasset ME (1435)

We are in a 42ft sailboat 5.5 draft. We stayed here one night and were impressed. Very nice facility and easy walking distance to shopping. From Cape May Harbor approach the canal until you are at or even past red 16 and make a sharp turn to port staying about 20 feet off the marina wall. Do not stray from that wall, stick right close in to it and turn to starboard at the entrance. Would recommend other than low tide for deeper draft vessels.

Captain: , Pelican Marina, Elizabeth City, NC (131)

Helpful, super clean showers and toilets, a gift on check-in, always someone on hand to answer questions; all these are at Utsches. The Lobster House restaurant and take-away shop are within a 2 minute walk and downtown 25 minutes by foot. So much more for the price than anywhere else en route from Atlantic Highlands.

Fueled here twice this year. Easy to get in, just make a sharp left out of the channel at R16, stay 20 feet off the wooden sea wall and turn right into the marina. Two fuel slips are near the end of the fairway, on the left, well marked with yellow signs. Lots of help to tie up and leave....

Great marina for transients, 2012-10-01
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

Updated: We stopped for one night in late September on our way back south, and enjoyed being back at this well run marina. We bought some fuel (decent price), and did laundry (still the best laundry room I've seen!). Had dinner at the Lobster House next door - and learned about the gate in the fence on that side of the property so that we didn't have walk all the way out to the road and then down to the Lobster House. We'll be back!

We stopped for two nights so we could tour Cape May. Utsch's was a great stop: floating dock, nice bathrooms and the best laundry facility we've seen since starting north in Florida: commercial equipment, two double-load washers, one triple load washer, and six dryers. Very friendly family run marina - a great stop. We had bicycles and biked into Cape May three different times to sightsee and enjoy the architecture. Ate at the Lobster House - lovely meal.

Arrived at low tide. Not enough water to get all the way into the slip. They did all they could. Understand a dredging permit is being worked on. The facilities are nice and clean. Top notch laundry and heads.
A full service boatyard within easy walk of resturaunts, etc. Owners and employees all open and friendly.
Don't miss this one.

Captain: , Kent Island, MD (181)

This is my third time in Cape May and second time at Utch's marina and this is my marina of choice in the area so far. Utch's is not a resort or club, simply a clean, well run marina with a professional and knowledgable staff.

Reasonably close to several marine stores, and an easy walk to several restraunts. The marina is about 2 miles from the beaches and about 2 miles from the main tourist center.

Bicycle rentals are available at the marina and rental cars are available from two different rental car companies with pickup and drop off if planning a longer stay.

As other reviews have indicated, the entrance appears a bit tight but it is easily negotiable in a single screw trawler without thusters.

Not much to add....., 2012-08-14
Captain: , Charleston, SC (422)

Everyone was very helpful. Better be sure not to make reservations too far in advance because you will lose a portion of the charges if you don't show. Fairways and slips little tight and the entrance somewhat narrow if you haven't been here before.. we'll be back

Service with a smile, appreciating customers, 2012-08-04
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (465)

Utsch's has always been one of our favorite stops. On our visit two weeks ago we were there on a Tuesday, mid-morning for diesel and were the only customer. After purchasing $1200 of fuel I asked if I might take no more than 15 minutes to do a quick errand across from their parking lot. He said no. Advised them that it would cost us as a customer as purchasing from the fish market was a reason we stopped at Utsch's and was important to us. He said he didn't care. Yesterday we purchased $2000 of fuel elsewhere when we passed thru Cape May. I can understand if they are busy but question the policy during slower periods - if indeed it is the policy.

Keep coming back every year, 2012-07-20
Captain: , Eastport, MD (490)

We come to Cape May every year for a family gathering and have stayed at Utsch's probably 4 times for a week at a time. Friendly staff with almost no turnover. Unfortunately it's a long way to Cape May proper and the city trolley no longer comes out to the marina so those wanting to vacation in Cape May will need to figure out transportation.
The store on the fuel dock has lots of fishing gear, both block and cube ice. There's also a decent ship's store plus two others within walking distance and West Marine across the bridge.

Yes, getting in is tight, and fuel dock a bit shallow even for our 5 ft draft, but have never had a problem.

Although the overview says Bar = no there's a bar at the Lobster House and Lucky Bones is also nearby. Good liquor store just across the bridge. Also several other restaurants along the main road to town within walking distance.

Wifi signal isn't always the best, though apparently they've tried to improve it. Possibly interference from equipment around the fuel dock? Go up near the office and it should be fine.

Need to go across the ICW to Canyon Club for pump out.

Restrooms always clean, though there's one quirk in that there's no hand soap.

I give this marina three stars which I consider appropriate for a good average marina, we were happy with this marina but do not consider it above average. The ladies in the office were terrific. Bathrooms are spacious and clean. They give you a bathroom key with a ridiculously huge tag, I understand the reason but why not just get one of those button punch locks for the one locked door. Like most marinas they advertise wifi but you have to take your laptop up near the office building for it to work. The cable tv didn't work when we were there, they were trying to get it fixed. If you walk a few blocks to the Wawa food store, you can catch a trolley which will take you to the town center and the beach a mile and a half away, runs noon to 10pm about.

We stopped at Utsch's on our Delmarva Circumnavigation. First time to New Jersey on a boat.
Tricky navigation to the Marina. Follow AC instructions!!
Once we were in the slip we ran aground. The slip reall diid not accomodate our draft. Had to dock the boat not all the way into the slip.
Marina is not very appealing. Not many sailboats. When we walked over to South Jersey Marina we kind of wished we had stayed there instead. Much more sailboat friendly and appealing.
At check in they give you a key to the Rest rooms with this huge wooden lighthouse attached. Everytime you go to use the facilities you have to take the walk of shame as everyone is looking at you carrying this big key "Gee I wonder where he's going"
Restrooms: Hot! No AC.
Laundry facilities very nice but over in the next county! Very far away!
There does not seem to be a no wake zone in NJ. Power boats came cruising by at the marina and left boats at the mercy of the wooden pilings. Definitely need fender boards!!!
Lucky Bones Resturant across the street was worth the walk and trying to cross traffic. They have the best thin crust pizza! The Lobster House had great food and an even better view of South Jersey Marina. Bikes will get you into town to shop and take an historic trolley tour. Bikes will also get you to the lighthouse. Take a taxi and visit the brewery and Cape May Winery.

Tight Quarters, 2012-06-25
Captain: , Kingsport, TN (470)

I stopped here for fuel in 44' sailboat with dink on back. The turns in were fine, but the last 90 deg. turn into the fuel dock was a bit tight. My 7' draft stopped the boat half way into the fuel slip, so we did not even need lines or fenders. Attendent was very helpful, and capable to make it work, and handle lines to kedge the boat out again.

A very warm welcome!, 2012-06-23
Captain: , Saugatuck, MI (144)

We traversed Delaware Bay during a dangerous thunderstorm. Lightening surrounded us, winds were strong, and waves were high. Reaching the Cape May Canal was almost Nirvana! Having already made a reservation, we called Utsch's just to confirm our arrival - despite the storm. "Wayne" was marvelous! He gave us all the information we needed, contacted us as soon as he saw us approaching, provided info to accurately approach the marina entrance, helped us dock, and Utsch's even provided a wonderful "welcome bag" at check in! The personnel was splendid, and they were quick to respond to our marina entry.

As a word of caution . . . if approaching from the west in the Cape May Canal, once you've turned toward the marina, hug the marina bulkhead within 20', or you may end up on a ledge. We made our approach at LOW TIDE and almost got hung up. Move slowly towards the "lighthouse" replica, then head on in. The fuel docks are straight ahead, close to the largest building dead ahead at marina entry.

We dined at Lucky Bones, and enjoyed the conclusion of an eventful day!

Very nice facilities. Rent a bike and ride into historic Cape May. Received a "goodie" bag from dockmaster - newspaper, cranberry wine, biscotti, odds n ends - nice touch. However - very tricky to get into at low tide (we have 5' draft) You must follow channel exactly til you reach buoy t canal - then hang a left and hug the wall (like 20-30 ft) along Utsch's til you reach the entrance

I'll definitely return! , 2012-05-24

Utsch's has it all. Fair prices, great service in every capacity, friendly, knowledgeable people. What more can you ask for. I'll be back.

Good Value, 2012-05-18
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1328)

Perfectly adequate transient floating docks.. I like the fact that the wooden floating docks have pilings outside of them which means you avoid scraping your hull along the floating dock when you dock. Several restaurants nearby. Town is quite a hike so need bikes (which we had) or take the trolley bus (which we did not). Professional staff. Good value for Cape May at $2 per foot which includes electricity. Bulkhead around marina which keeps waves/wake out. Good bath/shower facilities and adequate laundry.

Convienient Stop, 2011-10-12
Captain: , Boston (232)

We stayed one night. The staff was helpful and friendly. The docks are in good condition. The waters around the marina are shallow so be sure to get instructions from the dock staff before approaching. $2/ft fee.

Regular Stop, 2011-10-09
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

I always stay here and love going into the town.
I stayed there again on June 28, 2010 and it's every bit as good as ever. Had a great lobster at the restaurant next door.
We came back on 9/21/11 and the place is still wonderful. I can't quite figure out what to do with the NJ Blueberry Wine that you get at checkin. "Lucky Bones Backwater Grill' still has the best NY style thin Pizza south of Brooklyn.

Convenient stop, friendly staff, 2011-09-30
Captain: , Portsmouth (372)

Utsch's does the basics well. Facility is fairly well maintaned. Pricing is very competitive at $2/foot including power.

Smallish ship's store is exceptionally well stocked.

Goody bag with wine and snacks is a rare and welcome touch.

Utsch's Marina, 2011-09-21
Captain: , Branford, CT (900)

Stopped here before heading up the Delaware. Very nice folks. Welcome bag of wine & cookies (blueberry wine, not my favorite). They build their own docks, they say. They hold their floating docks in place with about 8 piles, surrounding the finger. As a result, big fenders and or fender boards are necessary. I'm gonna buy some 24" orange fender balls next chance I get. Diesel was $3.749/gal, all taxes etc included.Very clean bathrooms. Lots of places to eat nearby.

Yes a great place to spend the night, 2011-09-17

I can't add much to what has already been said. This is a great stop over marina. Good fuel prices too.

$2/ft includes electric. Tricky bow in slips, but nice and quiet once tied up. Laundry clean, great machines but far from slips. Town is a 45 min. walk TAKE A CAB! ( or rent a bike at the office) Acme market in town has everything. Lots of restaurants within 10 min. walk. Got a nice welcome bag on checking in, a nice touch.

This place Rocks!, 2011-08-31
Captain: , Egg Harbor Township, NJ (30)

Pulled in afterhours but had called ahead and was assigned a slip. Had bathroom key waiting for me. Next morning they gave me this bag with all these goodies in it. Nice touch! The restrooms were very clean. The Marina itself is fully staffed and profesional. Lost my fuel cap while fueling. They opened up multiple packages until they found the right one. Luckily they had one in stock which was a huge help. All & all a great place!

A good stop and fun town., 2011-08-23
Captain: , Central Illinois (497)

Dock hands were very helpful. Gave good directions to get us in the harbor and into the slip. Very nice welcome package. Best we've seen on the loop.

Did the walk and trolley ride to downtown. Fun place to walk around and see all the Victorian homes.

Don't let the approach scare you, 2011-08-19
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (70)

This was our first time stopping in Cape May. The chart shows skinny water from the channel to the marina, but if you follow the navigation posted, you will be fine. We pulled up at the gas dock and the 2 attendants were pretty laid back...basically gave us the fuel hose and went to stand in the shade. Service was barely above self-serve. Older floating docks but secure. Lobster house has great takeout and a great seafood market, just a walk across the parking lot. Fine stop for just one night.

Great Marina, 2011-08-19

This is a great stop in a great location. 2 dock hands helped us tie up and were very friendly. When we checked in, we got a welcome bag with mango soap, biscotti and blueberry wine all from local shops.

Excellent place to dock. People very helpful. Got held up by weather, called ahead and they had dockhand waiting for us. Gave us a welcome package(class) and recommended excellent restaurant. We will be back!

Captain: , Quebec, QC, Canada (43)

We stayed overnight before going at sea heading to NY, friendly staff, nice little gift bag at arrival. Heads and showers are clean. Note there was still a 2 hour wait time at the Loster House at 19:30... so we headed to a great other restaurant right across the 109.

Good location and a reasonable price, 2011-07-03
Captain: , Beach haven NJ (510)

Good place to stay after coming through the Cape May canal. They have a fuel dock and you can walk to some great local restaurants. The Lobster House is close by and has a great seafood restaurant, bar and attached diner for an early breakfast before getting underway.

Great Victorian Homes, 2011-07-02
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

6/9/11 Always wanted to see Cape May. Not disappaointed. Biked around the town and Victorian homes and down to the beach. Only stayed one night. Would go back. The staff at Utsch's were fiendly and helpful. Gave a nice welcome bag with several goodies that were enjoyed. Floating docks reasonably priced at $2.00 ft. Lobster House restaurant, about a block away, was very good. Follow the marks and the marina's directions when entering..

A Good Stop for Us, 2011-06-03
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4015)

A dock hand met us at the fuel dock. Then another met us at our slip. Very secure and protected marina. It is a boat yard marina, with mostly offshore fishing boats as permenent residents. They have a ships store and repairs available. It is not a resort marina and some may be disappointed by inappropriate expectations. We enjoyed our trip to town and were able to restock at the grocery store.

Cape May marina, 2011-05-21
Captain: , Stratford, CT (658)

They found a slip for us after 3 phone calls but seemed to have plenty empty ones after we got there.
Restrooms were clean but ladies showers lack privacy.
Docks are old and need some cleaning.
Didn't seem like it has the criteria for a first choice marina but I haven't seen the others in Cape May.
Not very dog friendly...need to hunt for walking areas-everything is gravel.

Not my favorite stop., 2011-05-17
Captain: , bear, de (364)

DIY dockage, with old but clean facilities

Very nice Marina, 2011-04-13
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (588)

We stopped here last November when we were on our way south. They are very nice people and they go out of there way to make you feel welcome. It is a very tight fairway getting into the marina. I had my hands full getting out of there in the morning in the dark. It is a long walk to the grocery store but I would return.

A Surprise Ending, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Ottawa, Canada (363)

Back in October i was passing through on my way to the Chesapeake from Atlantic City. The marina is a little tricky to get into and around with an LOA of 52 feet, but it can be done with patience. The service was friendly and helpful while we filled up, they even drove us to get propane - all was well. We spent a few minutes to get some lunch together and then were told we had to leave immediately - without warning they dropped my lines before I had even started the engines. It was a disquieting end to an otherwise positive experience

Nice people, clean facility, 2010-11-26
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

Very attentive staff. Pay attention to their directions on how to get in. It's a very tight passage and you need to be precise. Once in it's a very nice spot with very clean showers -- always a plus. Easy walk into town.

No Problem Entering with a 44' Sailboat, 5' 10" Draft, 2010-11-03
Captain: , Wilson, NY (432)

I called ahead to check because the reviews made it sound so tricky to enter. They gave us very clear directions. It was tight, and on a really windy day might have been dicey, but we got in, fueled and to our slip with no problems. The marina folks were right there to help and if you call ahead they give very clear directions. This is a quick stop, wish we could linger to enjoy the marina and the town.

Good 'ol Utsch's, 2010-10-22
Captain: , New York, NY (200)

I came to this place for the first time with my dad in 1958. Old Mr. Utsch still sits in the office every day and watches over things. This is not the faciest place. But the facilities are clean and in good working order, and the Utsch family is always around to make sure it stays that way. They are nice, friendly people, the welcome bag of goodies is great, and the price is right!! By the way, if you're a jazz fan, the Merion Inn in Cape May has a world-class pianist, George Mesterhazy, and very good food.

Superb Transient stopover, 2010-10-15
Captain: , Block Island (1679)

Stopped again in fall of 2010. Once again not disappointed. It helps to call one day ahead to reserve a slip.

Not for vessels over 50 ft LOA, 2010-10-08
Captain: , Marblehead, MA (926)

They accepted a reservation for a 56 ft trawler with no thrusters and assigned a slip that could not have had more than 50 feet between the end of the silip and the pilings on the opposite side of the fairway. Do not understand how they can claim facilities for up to 80 ft. or more than 6 ft. at low in the approach which requires a 90° spin to enter.

Friendly and Clean, 2010-09-26
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

We always stop at Utsch's on our way North. The personel are most accomodating. The fuel price is most reasonable. I will change my Racors before we leave to test the fuel quality. They do sell a lot of fuel here and I have never had a problem with their diesel fuel. Most importantly for me after the fuel quality is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Utsch's has by far, in my experience boating on the East Coast and Chesapeake Bay, the cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen. This will always be my first choice in Cape May.

Great family-run friendly place, 2010-09-18
Captain: , green cove springs (83)

Also one of the staff typically brings to the store produce from his own garden - good organic local stuff. Great folks, clean and safe facility.

Best Marina in Cape May, 2010-09-09
Captain: , Morristown, NJ (383)

Have been stopping here since 2003 and find very little change. The staff are very friendy and helpful. Fuel prices are competitive and they have clean reastrooms and showers. The entrance is a litte tricky but once you have managed it you will never forget. Do not waiver off the bulkhead. Easy walk to a delightful town and the Lobster House next store is wonderful. Have also found the Lucky Bones across the street to be jumping with good food and drink. The ship's store is well stocked and for you fisherman they have a great bait and tackle store.

Utches Revisited, 2010-08-25
Captain: , Las Vegas, NV (143)

After discovering Utches in 2004, I had the opportunity to make a return visit here last week. It is amazingly exactly the same place with the same rates. Stll has the nicest bathrooms of any marina on the east coast. Our stay there is the highlight of our trip from Annapolis to Long Island Sound.

Great Around Stop, 2010-06-21
Captain: , Wicomico Creek, MD (494)

Friendly people, clean bathrooms walking distance to Lobster House. Plus a welcome bag! A little tricky entrance, but call ahead and they guide you in. Fuel is still $2.74/gal. Had a problem with water in the fuel aftre leaving here. I am not the only one reporting such issue. Double check fuel quality (if possible) before fueling up.

They really seem to care, 2010-03-07
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Excellent facility. Leave the channel at the specified mark, stay parallel and close to their bulkhead, and turn to starboard down their slipway. Very accommodating and helpful staff. Cape May is a great stop to walk around. And the marina is next door to the Lobster House restaurant.

Friendly Marina in Cape May, 2010-02-28
Captain: , Waretown, NJ (58)

Good Place to stop in Cape May. Right at the end of the harbor/beginning of the Cape May Canal. A little tricky to get to fuel dock if you're beamy, but staff was very helpful and avail on VHF for assistance Best $$ on fuel in area.
Transients always welcome. They even gave us a 'welcome' package of a bottle of wine and bread. Family run. Good location (walk) to restaraunts and stores. No swimming pool; Beach needs a bike or car to get to.
Laundry facilities on site, as well as a boaters lounge, which came in handy at the end of a hot day on the water.

Very tricky to enter, 2009-10-13
Captain: , Port Ontario, Lake Ontario (410)

We have a 5' draft and getting in here requires a very deliberate course. You will need to talk to the marina for details. When we called they initially gave us wrong information but it turned out OK as after some perilious minutes we saw and followed another boat who knew the area enter. You can definately get your bottom cleaned coming in here.
Marina staff are helpful but not more so then many places we've been. They have bicycles for rent, I believe it is $12.00 and is is a nice ride into Cape May. Many beautiful homes there.
Straight down the road about 1.5 miles (est) is an Acme grocery store.
The boat next to us had a little more draft by a few inches and had even more trouble getting in and then couldn't tie up properly as they were on the bottom in the slip and had difficulty moving the boat.
We didn't see anything outstanding about this marina but maybe our entrance problems have tainted our view. However now that we know how to get in I would certainly consider staying there again. A smaller draft would be much easier.

A good place to stop, 2009-09-23
Captain: , Buffalo (1144)

They do everything right here. The only thing that kept it from 5 star rating is the tricky entrance.

You gotta like Utsch's , 2009-07-09
Captain: , Hilton Head, South Carolina (533)

Its a name you will remember one you learn to say it. Its a family business and they treat you as an important person. Docks and power are good and its a short walk to the Lobster House and an interesting town. They give you a bottle of wine, but I would recommend you take it as a gift to the next dinner party you go to.

best Ive seen, 2009-07-08
Captain: , bohemia river, md (37)

I was impressed when they handed me the welcome pack - wine briscoutti, map of attractions. Two different shower facilities both nice. I definitely used the internet (from the lobby of the bathroom on the 2nd floor above the store which had electricity and also a phone line however the line looked corroded.) From the map it is close to things to do although we did not do anything.

Recommend!, 2009-06-17

Comparatively cheap transient rate at $2/f and haul-out fee of $2.50 per foot. Immaculate and modern heads/showers/laundry. Great staff.

We were welcomed with a bottle of wine (don't know if they still do that). Right off the channel to the Cape May canal. Very protected. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice marine store onsite and 2 bigger marine stores nearby.

A working Marina, 2008-03-09
Captain: , Atlantic City, NJ (76)

The main attraction here is it's location to the Wharf Rest. next door. Staff is friendly and they love dog's. No pool which can be drag on a hot day in July, but if just passing through this a great place to call it a night.

Real Boating Charm, 2007-06-29
Captain: , New Bern, NC (197)

We tried Utschs for the first time last season and were more than pleased with the facility, the services and especially the gift bag. All of the amenities were clean and well-maintained. Easy access to ICW and surrounding attractions. This place has real boating charm.

Always stay there, 2007-01-22
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2964)

We always stay here on our trip south. The facility is very well protected. They are friendly and helpful, and always have a treat for our dog. There's a pretty good restuarant right next door.
