Reviews for Two Harbors Enterprises (Catalina Island)
Go now before the Island Company destroys it., 2014-07-25
Captain: , Redondo Beach, CA (260)

For most LA area boaters this is their mainstay. Excellent staff, great bartenders, adequate facilities. Because of ridiculous price increases the last couple years we can only give it four stars. But the Island Company is fully aware of their monopoly on this boaters paradise, and they are milking the pennies out of it. All the yacht clubs have been run out. It's all about money now, not boating. It's sad to see it happen. We will continue to go but will eat and drink on our boat.

My Favorite Destination , 2014-02-01

Quiet and friendly. Moorings are generally available except on major holidays like Fourth of July, Memorial Day weekend and Pirate Days. Fuel cost is higher. Currently about $7 per gallon for regular gas. Shore boats are available. Bring cash for those and tip the skipper on your final ride back to your boat. Hot showers (bring quarters). There is a two mile hike to the top of the island where you are rewarded with a 360 degree view of the island. Or you can hike across the isthmus to Catalina Harbor. Very laid back, which for me is the major attraction.

Some things stay the same, 2013-11-07
Captain: , Kemah, TX (234)

This place has remained pretty close to the same for many years and that is a good thing in this case. It may be a few short miles off the coast of Southern California, but it is thousands of miles away in terms of getting away from it all. From our recent trip to memories from 20 years ago, this place will always hold a special place in my heart and we have always had the best of times here.

Nice island getaway, 2013-02-11
Captain: , Salt Lake City (186)

We really enjoyed our visist to Two Harbors. The moorings are close to the beach and the dinghy dock for easy kayak friendly going ashore. The restrooms are large & clean. There is a bar, a resturant a cafeteria, a general store and lots of nearby hiking. What more could you ask for.

Two Harbors, 2012-08-14
Captain: , Kirkland, WA (4478)

Two Harbors area is picturesque full service village that is much quieter than Avalon. With several options for moorings and anchorages to choose from, the East side locations are more open to swell, wakes, and waves. Catalina Harbor, on the west side of the isthmus is a much better location. We stayed in Isthmus Cove 3 nights over a long weekend and always had a vacant mooring within sight around us.

The Better Harbor, 2011-08-16

We've sailed to both Two Harbors and Avalon - both are great! We prefer Two Harbors, as Avalon is too commercial.

description of the Isthmus, 2010-09-18
Captain: , Marina del Rey, California (12)

Individual ratings given:
6: Current protection Great
5: Holding: fairly good
4: Wind protection: Generally good wind protection. Breeze blows from Cat Harbor then through the Isthmus. The average wind at the anchorage is 0 - 12
3: Wake protection On average, pretty good
2: Scenery quality: Excellent with extensive hiking and water sports availability.
1: Shopping facilities: Small general store, cafe and restaraunt

The Isthmus has a small resident community which includes dorms, small houses and not too far away is the Wrigley Marine Science Center. The cafe is reasonably priced and restaurant is above average in cost. Additional facilities include an outboard repair center (they also sell them along with supplies), propane sales and fuel. There is access to the mainland by ferries (San Diego, Long Beach area and Marina del Rey) and helicopter.
Be sure to try the signature "Buffalo Milk" at the bar. The Bar is the social center of the area where you may find a live band or disk jockey over the weekend, during the summer.
