Reviews for Tugboat Inn and Marina
Large boat moorings in rolly area, 2017-08-22
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1453)

We stayed 3 nights 8/12-14/17 on one of their 2 large boat moorings for $45 per night. Moorings are just south of Boothbay Harbor Shipyard, not as close as the main moorings but not too inconvenient. Lots of boat wakes in this area, especially from local lobster boats and net fishermen working inside the mooring field. There was always plenty of space at the dinghy dock and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Restrooms are older but very clean. Secure wifi was difficult to stay connected from so far away, even with our signal booster.

Highly recommend taking a taxi to see the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens - very well done! It is possible for smaller boats to access the Gardens by dinghy at their dock (see AC marker). Great restaurants in town - we enjoyed Ports of Italy and Boathouse Bistro. Above average shops in town (lots of them).

Lovely town, great marina, 2017-08-06
Captain: , Brookline NH (80)

Spent 4 days here in beautiful weather. This marina is right in the heart of Boothbay Harbor. Step off the boat and you're in town. Plenty of boating activity to watch but everyone observed no wakes speeds and very quiet and calm at night. Excellent marina personnel, clean restrooms and showers. We love coming to Boothbay and Tug Boat Marina is our new favorite marina here.

moorings in good shape, 2017-07-16
Captain: , Beaufort, SC (500)

We picked up a mooring for one night about 100' from the dinghy dock. Super easy access to this interesting town. We had plenty of swing room with our 40' trawler. It's an active harbor but the wakes were minimal.

Big price jump, 2017-07-11
Captain: , Camden, Me (160)

Stayed there a couple years ago had an off-season rate of a dollar a foot. This year was quoted three dollars a foot. Went elsewhere.

Calm water, and great if you like summer shopping..., 2017-03-24
Captain: , Westport Point, MA (391)

...which I don't particularly. We just ducked in after a sail from the Port Clyde Gen'l Store, trying to get south ahead of Hurricane Whateveritsnamewas in September '16. The place had very nice, clean showers, and the restaurant at the marina turned out much better and more fun than we thought it might be. Not a lot of time here, up and away at dawn, but a pleasant 12 hours in Boothbay!

Great Stop Over, 2016-09-26
Captain: , Essex, MA (80)

A quiet mooring field tucked to the inner harbor near the town dock and all the goings on. Plenty of elbow room and not on top of one another. Dockmaster was hospitable and friendly. Showers were clean and did the trick. Marina Wifi was accessible. Definately on the list for future stop overs in Boothbay.

In the middle of everything...., 2016-08-06
Captain: , Nashville, TN (206)

Right down town and all the shops, eats and sightseeing. I was here for several days waiting for dockage/mooring to be available down east and stayed entertained on or off the boat. The location in the harbor was very still even sitting right next to all the ferry boats. (Other places could take lessons from these guys in no wakès.) Showers were busy on the weekend, so said my crew. I loved sitting on the aft deck watching all the different boats go quietly by. The wake thing again. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

Good Spot in Town, 2016-08-05
Captain: , Wickford, RI (560)

Right downtown, good showers/restrooms, on a beautiful harbor. Dock staff was helpful and quick to return VHF hail.

Great Place..., 2016-07-06
Captain: , Pittsburgh (80)

Nice harbor, very friendly. Showers are fantastic. Strong pressure and hot. We had a mooring. Convenient dinghy dock, right in town. Great restaurants, ice cream, coffee shops. There is a free trolley right out front that does 30 minute loops which go right by the Hannaford Grocery store..

Good People, good location, and well maintained, 2015-12-09
Captain: , Mashpee River (507)

We have stopped here several times. Clean facilities, good people and easy access to downtown and some really good happy hour deals. The people working here always seem willing to go out of there way for you

Tugboat Inn and Marina Boothbay, 2015-09-07
Captain: , Halifax, Nova Scotia (70)

Called for mooring on the day of and no problem. $30.00 per night and Noah provide great service and information.

Efficent and helpful 2014 and 2015, 2015-07-31
Captain: , Boca Raton, Fl (639)

Harry, and Peter will see to you as you call for a reservation and then tie up in a competant laid back Maine way. Ask a question and get rewarded with information that is spot on. My only problem was with the Harbor itself, this trip it was filled with rockweed and caused a jam up in the sea water intake twice, beteen the hull and the sea stainer, this seems to be the situation in Kittery as well.

NICE, FRIENDLY, small Marina, 2015-07-29
Captain: , Glen Cove, NY (281)

PETER (30 years and going strong!) MAKES THIS PLACE WORK! From assisting one into their slip to providing information and great recommendations on all manor of things about Booth Bay, one can't go wrong following Peter's sage advice! Face Facts...Booth Bay IS a TOURIST TOWN. Tug Boat is very low key, almost folksy, no frills, old time marine facility. Transients are welcome, but space is limited. VERY CONVENIENT LOCATION in heart of the town. Good restaurant on site as well as Motel type accommodations. Electric service and cable TV have been upgraded and working well. OUR FAVORITE TRANSIENT DOCKAGE IN BOOTH BAY!

Excellent stopover, 2015-07-03
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (231)

Not familiar with Boothbay harbor but Tugboat Inn dock master Peter came out in a skiff and guided us to the right mooring. Most helpful! Excellent dinner at the Inn along with excellent shower and other facilities. We had a great stop over here.

great early season stop, 2015-05-18
Captain: , Augusta, Maine (365)

Needed to do a little shakedown cruise so we went from RObinhood Marina over to Boothbay and being new to boating and this harbor I tried calling a few different resources via vhf and phone before finally getting the Tug Boat inn who told me to go ahead and tie up and as I was docking the dockmaster came down, helped us tie up and told me where the public landing is but that I was welcome to stay were I was as it is still early season and I only wanted to stay for a couple of hours anyway. Very friendly and helpfull.

Great Layover, 2014-10-15
Captain: , Groton, CT (345)

great stop, 2014-08-26
Captain: , Cape Cod (10)

Peter is great. Right down town. Good laundry and showers. Highly recommended.

Friendly folks and good location, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

Cluttered little harbor with mooring balls and lobster traps, par for the course in Maine. The folks at the marina we very friendly and gave us lots of local information. They even had a hot tub that had a great view of the harbor (we didn't use, but a cool feature).

Becareful before leaving as the lobstermen will drop traps in your mooring swing radius, we had a few floats show up overnight/earlymorning under our boat.

Good place to stay in center of town, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Cassiopea A (507)

Tugboat Inn is conveniently loacated very close to the town center. Their bathrooms and showers are accessible 24 hours. Ports of Italy restaurant, just accross the street and to the right, is great.

Great place to stay., 2013-07-29
Captain: , Colchester VT (380)

We called ahead to arrange a mooring. Paid $30 a night to be right next to town. Lots to do and eat in town!!! The dockmaster Harry was very easy going and helpful. We had a great time in Boothbay. Fee included the use of showers which were very clean. A great deal. There is a free trolley in town that will go by Hannafords so you can provision. The town is VERY dog friendly. Dog water bowls out everywhere.

Pleasant stay, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Naples, FL (1096)

Mooring ball was convenient to dinghy dock, even though we had one of the outer balls. Excellent washers and dryers. Make sure you go to Eventide for cheese, pt, bread and a wide selection of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Red Cup (?) Cafe served a great latte. Water bowls for pets are placed throughout the town.

Rental Moorings Usually Avalable, 2013-07-12
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

Moorings $30 in July 2013. Clean showers are coin operated at $.25/2 minutes. Laundry is well equipped but, at $4.00/wash seemed kind of pricey. Trolley will pick you up 2 blocks from Tugboat and is free in summer and gets you to groceries, etc., very convenient.
An easy and convenient stop in a popular harbopr.

Great place, Great dockmaster, 2013-06-12
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

Peter would do anything for you. Sadly, the trolley doesn't start running until schools let out...which is about 6/20. Owners abolished the off season discount, too. Still, love this place, and Hannaford is an easy bike ride away.

2012 Visit, 2012-09-18
Captain: , Stuart Fl (300)

We were at the Tugboat Marina on 8/14/2012. Harry was very helpful with docking and Peter was very helpful with getting us off the dock the next morning. We had dinner at the restaurant which was very good. We were allowed to climb up to the forecastle of the Tugboat even though it is no longer used for service. The view is interesting from up there. The marina is easy access to the town and all the tourist shops.

Close & convenient, a bit touristy., 2012-08-28
Captain: , Annapolis (451)

Agree with most comments. Peter great & helpful, access to town, facilities clean and convenient. Several really nice galleries, a nice bookstore.

Our Favorite spot in Boothbay, 2012-08-24
Captain: , York, ME (1971)

Boothbay is a "must stop" any time we're passing by. And Tugboat Inn has become our usual stop. It's right in town, but on the quieter side. New this year (2012) they had live music at their dockside bar which might deter some, but it wasn't too loud on the floats. The on-site restaurant is pretty good. Showers are large, clean and only a quarter for 2 minutes. The two large front-loading washers and laundrymat-size dryers are great, with detergent and softner included. Block and cube ice is available right at the dock. Fuel and other boat services can be had close by, but not on site. Take the free trolly (runs from about 10:30 AM until late afternoon) to the Rite-Aid or Hannaford supermarket for provisions. Closest stop is to the right at Red Cup Cafe, but you can probably flag the driver down if he's going by. All the usual beach-tourist-town staples are close by, a huge t-shirt outlet, lots of shops, ice cream, fudge, pizza, you name it.

In the thick of things, 2012-08-04
Captain: , San Antonio, TX (40)

This little gem shouldn't be overlooked. It has a great view of the harbor and Harry, the Dockmaster, was most helpful. We had some trouble with our power, but he wouln't quit until he got it right. Even moved some boats so that we could be at a dock with a better connection. In the middle of town, but we had a quiet and restful night.

Great place to get a mooring, 2012-07-16
Captain: , Cape Elizabeth, ME (20)

Always enjoy stopping here. This year we had a mooring right off the end of the town dock on the 4th of July. Great entertainment watching all the boats coming and going. Tugboat is a friendly, well run operation. Tugboat's location puts you right in the center of town. Boothbay is always a fun stop where we can walk the dog, get good coffee, replenish supplies and lots more.

So accommodating, 2012-07-13
Captain: , Newport (404)

Dock master Peter is a laid back and very helpful guy. Moorings $30. Had our pick of many. Heads tidy. One washer not working. BB itself is very sweet. Very walkable. Sherman's book store is a treasure. No marine supplies store. The schooner fleet is a joy to watch.

The Place to Stay, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Red Brook Harbor, Ma. (216)

Great spot center to all the action in BoothBay Harbor. Harry the dockmaster is the best. Very helpful getting in and out and a great tour guide too. Excellent facilities.
No good food shopping options in town however, a mile walk to Hanneford Bros supermarket.

Handy location; small simple facility; friendly, 2011-09-13
Captain: , Portsmouth (372)

Tugboat is well located and just far enough from the center of tourist traffic to be slightly quieter. No amenities - though included WiFi. But docks in good condition. Stable power. Fair rates.

A Great Location, 2011-07-05
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

Classic New England setting. Mooring balls located in downtown area @ a reasonable price, $28. Friendly staff, but slow to respond on the VHF. Only one washer working on busy July 4th weekend. Bathroom and shower was adequate, but limited in number. Dense fog cancelled July 4th fireworks. Shopping and restaurants were plentiful and in walking distance.Overall area I would rate a 4 star.

Tugboat Inn, 2011-03-07
Captain: , Lynn, MA (232)

One of the best places to stop in Maine. Lots of restaurants, walk or dingy to most. We usually take a mooring here and spend some time at the dock dependining on weather and space available. Never made a reservation and always got a mooring or slip in Boothbay. Tugboats is by far the friendliest place in the harbor. Some of the boats there are seasonal and the folks are great. Most transients are repeats or sent by those of us who are. The dockmaster is quite knowledegable and helpful. This is the better side of the harbor for most everything.

Tug Boat Moorings, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Harpswell Me (277)

We have paid a lot more for a lot less facilities. We moored 50 foot off the dock, in what is the heart of beautiful Boothbay. Showers and laundry included in price, helpful service, call ahead for holiday weekends.

Convenient location and nice staff, 2008-11-10
Captain: , San Diego (5)

Very helpful dock master. The marina laundry, at the top of the dock, is back to back to the hotel laundry, so the soap and softener are plumbed in. Saves a little money. Short walk to good restuarants: McSeagulls for beer and pub grub, Ports of Italy for fine dining, Beach House Bistro for fabulous tapas.

Convenient and nice, 2007-08-17
Captain: , Boston (619)

An easy row from the mooring field to a very adequate dinghy dock and a short walk to the restaurants and shops of Boothbay Harbor.

Tug Boat, 2007-02-11
Captain: , Georgetown, Maine (144)
