Reviews for Town Creek Marina
Never Again, 2017-08-01
Captain: , Southport, NC (130)

Went for a pump out. Were told we had to do a portside tie up, even though we told them our tank is on the starboard side. Had to drive up to a 6 foot plastic sinking platform with only one place to tie up. We are a 42 foot vessel! The dock hand asked to come aboard and proceeded to drag the grimy hose across our rail then over the V berth hatch leaving a trail of black marks for this First Mate to clean up! To make it even more memorable, they charged us $20 for the pump out. Because their diesel is only $2.13, they figure they can make it up with ridiculous high pump out prices.
This marina is not close to anything in Beaufort, unless you have a car. Nothing within walking distance.
We will not come back....ever.

Fantastic Service and People, 2017-05-31

Full service marina with hoist and mechanics
Professional Polite and really wonderful
Have used for 10+ years and it is one of the best on the East Coast

The new dock is great!, 2017-05-02

We enjoyed another great stay. The new dock is in and is really nice. You have to really like a marina that is constantly raising the bar and making it better and better every day. The staff is as good as it gets and really work hard to get you settled in.
Found all the Yanmar parts we needed on site. Restaurant / bar on site is excellent and historic Beaufort is a short dinghy/drive away.
Navigation in is straightforward and clearly marked. However do not cut the corner to the marina when coming in from the bastule bridge. I watched two sail boats leave the clearly marked channel and both grounded. On a positive not they were both able to get themselves off.
Love this place!

challenging navigation due to construction, excellent people, 2016-11-17
Captain: , Alameda (667)

Navigation to the marina can be a bit challenging due to the construction of a new highway bridge and a lot of dredging activity. Call the marina for instructions. Carol and Amanda are superb and very helpful. They try to watch arrivals and be in contact by radio to help if there are any issues picking a path through the construction. The marina itself is undergoing extensive renovations but is fully functional. The slip was a bit tight for our 42x13x6 sailboat but was manageable in light winds.

The marina restaurant is closed for the season in Nov 2016, reopening next spring.

Nothing is really in walking distance due the the construction in the area, but they have a courtesy van and a taxi to Beaufort city front street is $5, where there are lots of excellent restaurants. We at at the Front Street Grill and had a great meal.

The marina gets 3 stars now due to the facilities renovations and local construction, but when that is finished, this will be a wonderful place. Great staff.

Excellent service, 2016-11-06
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

Friendly people and quality repair work. I went in with generator issues that Jeremy was able to figure out quickly. He was meticulous in combing through the boats electronics and the generator has worked like a champ since. Carol in the office was great and Darren the dockmaster was extremely helpful. The docks are in need or replacement but I unerstand that is in the very near future. I would have rated a 5 is the docks were better. Will stay again.

great and gonna be even better!, 2016-10-28
Captain: , Annapolis MD (84)

What was originally going to be an overnight stopover turned into 3 days! The reviews mentioning noise are fair- between bridge and new dock construction there is some noise. But we weren't bothered. The staff is second to none- very helpful and friendly. Reasonably priced (1.50/ft w boat US), courtesy car, laundry etc. floating docks are all being replaced- new ones will be great. Negative is you can't walk into town, but we just dingy'd in and it was fine.

Good marina but expensive service dept charge, 2016-06-13
Captain: , Montreal (142)

I had to stop for a lose propeller and I did clean the hull and repaint the anti-fooling on the hull i the same time but I receive an expensive bill! Great desapointment I guess good service have a price! Very clean marina and great people outside of that money part's. I had a bad wifi reception, they had received a strike 1 month before. Been fixed while I was there.

Great Service, we'll be back, 2016-05-23
Captain: , Groton, CT (111)

Did not stay at the marina, but called in advance and stopped to pick up parts (Yanmar engine belts). Carol was so helpful! Parts dept is actually closed on Monday, but she was able to get what we needed and have it ready for us. She came out and helped us tie up to the fuel dock, and gave us info about the town and especially about the shoalling and how to continue north without running aground. The marina looked very nice, and very clean. Restrooms were very clean and looked newly painted. Store was nice and very neat. Carol was just terrific, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. She even grabbed a step so I could get on and off my boat easily, and helped us with our lines when we left.

DISAPPOINTED, 2016-04-22
Captain: , Hampton, VA (581)

Arrived late one day after a long offshore run. Was pleased that the dockmaster, Darren, volunteered to stay late to catch our lines and give us local knowlege of the channel. Beyond his outstanding support, I have almost nothing good to say. First of all, they've raised their prices to $2.00/ft on the face dock, apparently in anticipation of the yet-to-be-built new floating dock. WiFi at the dock was all-but non existant. Finally, the marina owner took the only courtesy car home that day and since construction of the new high-rise bridge has eliminated the road/walkway to Beaufort, we were pretty much stuck. We had thought about staying an extra day or so to hide from some high winds, but it just wasn't worth it. I doubt we'll be back.

Good marina in narrow channel, 2016-04-16
Captain: , Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732 (200)

Good marina with Darrell helping us into our slip. Call Darrell before you go under bridge for local knowledge, you don't want to meet the shoal in the middle of the creek like I did. Onsite resturant is good but also pricey. They have a courtsey car which is great. GOOD diesel prices.

Good, decent place to stop, 2016-03-20
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (70)

As noted before, staff was excellent and very friendly. Docks were a bit shabby, but floating. Quiet marina. Town/stores are a long walk, but cars are available for use.

Very accomdating, 2016-03-13
Captain: , Oriental NC (20)

We stopped in here to grab lunch on a day trip from oriental. The restaraunt was closed so we called a cab and went into town to eat (It's normally a short walk but Turner street is closed for construction). Cab was $6 each way. Quick and cheap. We weren't able to reach anyone on the radio but they still met us at the dock to help with tieing up. We bought $14.00 worth of fuel and they let us leave the boat tied up to the fuel dock while we went to town to eat. We offered to move several times but they weren't worried about it at all. We'll definately go back.

Excellent repair service, 2015-11-24
Captain: , Warehouse Creek, SR (90)

Needed repair to leak on shift shaft seal on transmission
and a new voltage regulator. Arrived late Tuesday and left Friday with all the special order parts delivered and installed. Bob was the mechanic and Shaun did the electrical work, both were excellent. Matt coordinated the repairs and orders. Used the courtesy car to go into town. Would give this place a 5 except the docks need some repair. City Kitchen was very good.

Good deal, caring staff, 2015-11-18
Captain: , Bristol, RI (772)

The owners of this marina and the dock hands make the difference. THis is a working yard with docks that are shabby. They are scheduled to be changed and upgraded next year. The price of staying here was half that of the Town Dock and included use of a courtesy car. Good ships store and a truly GREAT restaurant on site. Highly recommend as an alternative to the now expensive Town Dock.

Welcoming Marina, 2015-11-07
Captain: , Sebastian, Florida (387)

+ Very accommodating, pleasant, and very reasonably price marina.
+ Mechanic came right down and efficiently repaired an issue that we were having. Very reasonable pricing.
+ Floating docks on NW side of building have Very short finger piers for each slip and space between docks is Very tight. Other docks have slightly longer finger piers and wider spaces between docks.
+ Gas dock is on the Northwest side and Diesel dock is on Southwest side.
+ Dinghy dock out front of the building on the South side. We were told that use of this is Not Encouraged.
+ Showers and laundry are adequate.
+ Have courtesy car --- allowed to use for 75 minutes --- must refill gas used.
+ When leaving the Tow Boat recommended Not going through the draw bridge.
+ Marina “does Not encourage people coming in by dinghy and paying for use of facilities”.
+ Room to anchor out in front of the marina, and can land dinghy at boat ramp docks to the east of the marina.
+ Long walk to Beaufort now that Turner street is closed for bridge construction equipment.

Nice Spot - beware construction noise, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3103)

We had the boat here for a week with 4 nights on board. The major bridge construction created endless thumping, grinding all day and into the night.
It's a good stop but be prepared for the noise.
They are pile driving right now.

A great place for food and repairs, 2015-06-20
Captain: , Ft. Collins, CO (331)

We stayed 4 nights after limping in with battery problems. Our four year old house bank was dying. Steve, the owner was great. He found batteries, had them the next day and installed them as well as fixing several other problems. The marina had nice facilities and the City Kitchen, on site, was one of the best restaurants I have eaten in for quite a while.. And they were flexible with the courtesy car although you can not keep it overnight. I will stop here again just to eat.

Docks are tight but people are friendly and helpful., 2014-10-28
Captain: , Southport, NC (523)

Very tight to dock here and the piers are very short. They did give us steps or there is no way we could have gotten off the boat. Bathrooms are adequate but remind you of a gas station bathroom.
Dock hands are very helpful and staff here is very nice. If you get a pump out, make sure you hug the docks to your starboard side and make a tight turn into the well. There is shoaling off your port side and you will run aground if you don't hug the gas dock. We draft 5.5 feet and did notice the shoal. 15 minute walk into downtown Beaufort.

Not what it used to be, 2014-07-23
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (70)

The rates went up even after Hurricane Arthur took out a lot of the docks. As of 7/22 it is now $1.80/ft with the Boat US discount and $6 a night for electric. Not much transient space and the docks are tore up pretty good. A big difference from last year...

Not perfect but pretty darn good, 2014-07-13
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (370)

We stayed here on June 25 and were generally very pleased with their service and amenities. They had a very nice van for us to use and were very helpful in tie up, etc. Our only complaint was the skinny water that prevented us from getting pumped out as we left. It is exactly 1 mile to the center of town by bike.

First Rate Service, 2013-10-25
Captain: , Swansboro (674)

If you need your sailboat pulled and painted....this is the place to go.

Steve and crew will do everything/anything to take care or your needs.

Highly recommend.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1633)

When we called this marina to make reservations they were very eager for us to stay. Sounded like they were real anxious to please. We needed a loaner car to reprovision and theirs was not available, but they did loan us ths company truck for which we are grateful. Their amenities include the car which is why we stayed there. When we arrived no one answered ch 16. We had to call on the cell phone to get attention. They told us someone would be waiting on the dock, but they were very slow about appearing. When the dock preson showed up he turned out to be a young boy with little experience or knowledge. He had to call for help when we had questions about the slip. The slip was way to long and we were told to use the lines that were tied to the outer pilings. They were mostly floating in the water and were filthy. We finally got permission to tie to the fuel dock and they wanted to charge us more for that. We didn't expect a great facility as we were told they still had hurricane damage, but based on our initial contact we expected a much better service.

Not the place for us, 2013-06-30
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (640)

The people here are very nice and do their best to help you, but the docks are in disrepair and felt rickety to us. We stayed 2 nights without incident in bad weather. We were quoted $20 for a pump out. There is a Cummings facility at the marina if you need parts or service. When approaching from Beaufort we needed an opening from a bridge that only opens on the hour and had to circle around avoiding shallow water waiting for this to happen. The marina is far from town and the restaurant was closed when we were there in April 2013.

Good service, friendly staff, 2013-05-30
Captain: , Pfungen, Switzerland (310)

That's a good place with competent staff.
Beaufort town is in walking distance (20 minutes) towards south.
ACE, Piggly Wiggly and different fast food shops are approx. 20 walking minutes to the east.

Yanmar parts, 2013-05-23
Captain: , Lewes, DE (178)

They have lots of parts and are very helpful. The channel needs to be followed carefully in a sailboat. Docks are ok, dock hand is great as is the parts department.

Not fancy, but neither are we, 2012-12-21
Captain: , Bristol, RI (431)

Stayed here Nov 12-23, 2012. Picked Town Creek over City Dock due to price. Stayed longer than planned due to weather and we got a decent discount. Adequate faciilities for us - only problem was the dryer. They have 2, but one does not get hot and the other one broke. Make sure they work before doing laundry. I should just have waited until we got to Charleston. Staff was very pleasant and helpful, courtesy car a plus, and on-site restaurant handy and food is good. About a mile to town, easy walk. Nice shops, restaurants and the museum is worth a visit. Would stay here again if in the area.

Average Stay far from Town, 2012-10-26
Captain: , Little River, SC (1987)

Shower facilities were clean but in need of updating. As others have noted , the laundry is expensive and the pumpout is veryy dificult to get to. We were told to only try it at high tide. It is a long walk into town (1 mile) but doable. Marine Museum was interesting and there are severl good restaurants to choose from. We liked Queen Anne's Revenge. Marina has a courtesy car which was very nice for groceries.

Ok, buts a little TLC, 2012-09-04
Captain: , New Bern, NC (76)

Cons: Docks are still in need of repair. Right now, damage has been fixed with sheets of plywood nailed flat. No lighting on the docks, makes for some interesting night trips to the head. Laundry is available, but expensive (have about $5 in quarters ready). Largely power boats, and with my sailboat, feel like Im surrounded by 3 story fiberglass clorox bottles.

Pros: broke down, and they allowed me to tie to the fuel docks on a Sunday. Staff is friendly. Tiki bar & resturaunt are nice to have. Wifi. Quick access to the ocean through Beaufort Inlet.

Worked with us !!, 2012-08-04
Captain: , Va Beach, VA (151)

We called for a slip with no notice when winds forced us to change our plans. They were full but allowed us to tie up on their fuel dock overnight, even though they had closed for the night.
Floating dock with 50 amp power and water.
Good experience for us!

Fish Tales Restaurant at Town Creek Marina, 2012-08-01
Captain: , New Haven, CT (145)

Fish Tales recently re-opened under new owners Kelly and Mike. Check out the website: The setting at Town Creek Marina is perfect for watching beautiful sunsets from the veranda while sipping sundowners and/or eating dinner. Meals can also be ordered at the Tiki Bar for casual fare as well as the %u201Cwhite tablecloth%u201D dining room. The Tiki Bar has live music on Fridays and Saturdays%u2013 call them at 252-504-7263 for who%u2019s playing. There is a dinghy dock available as well as the slips at Town Creek Marina. We have eaten here several times and each was better than the last! Executive Chef Clint is creative with the local seafood as well as regular entrees and offers excellent presentation. If you%u2019re yearning for something not on the menu, just ask. If he has the ingredients, he%u2019ll make it special for you. We highly recommend Fish Tales and wouldn%u2019t drop the anchor in Beaufort without stopping in.

The not so good outweighs the good, 2012-06-19
Captain: , Windy (170)

I've had two decent experiences here but both were a bit tarnished by the service and facilities. The marina is still not repaired from storm damage so a good number of the docks are closed. The slips on the backside may put you in mud at low tide - be forewarned (the staff probably won't warn you). The marina "opens" at 8:30 on weekdays and 10 or so on Sundays - and no one or nothing is available afterhours. The Tiki bar has reopened and is working out the kinks. Drinks are well priced but the food is expensive and okay at best. Hopefully they will get this straight. My experience with the yard was similar. The pumpout is almost impossible to reach and, at $20 a shot, is aptly referred to as "the most expensive pumpout on the east coast." The yard manager is professional and seems capable and the hands are friendly. However, the quality of the work was just average however and the manager simply "got the job done" he didn't deliver on his initial sales pitch (corners were cut, cost estimates over run, excuses given, etc). Not bad people - just not worthy of recomendation. There is plenty of upside here but for now, they just don't seem to get it.

Needs Improvement, 2012-06-15
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

Incredibly competent and nice people however the facility was damaged in an earlier storm and they just got approval to repair and fix their place up. Got the last slip available that was not damaged and put my 17 and a half foot wide boat in an 18 foot wide slip (their largest as the T dock was full). Needed and got their help for this. Great service facility though. Helped me with two important projects. Would love to see the place after they make the improvements but not before.

Unbelievably fast repair, 2012-05-26
Captain: , Rock Hall (30)

My transmission blew (on Yanmar 3GM30) and they looked at it Tuesday morning, ordered the new transmission to be overnighted by lunchtime. Next morning they took out the old transmission and had the new one in by 3PM. Did a new lift pump and Racor while they were at it. Lent me a courtesy car to go shopping while the work was getting done. Really nice staff and competent mechanics. No charge for dockage or electricity.

Excellent service department, 2012-03-12
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (20)

We picked up some fishing line in our starboard outdrive and had to get it removed and repair the dmaged seal before taking out another charter with very little time to do it. Town Creek Marina was right on the ball and was able to make room on the yard to get us hauled and get the repair done in time to meet our obligations. The lower unit grease was more like white caulking instead of grease and the service department was not only effecent, but took the extra time and effort to clean out all the old lube, wash out with oil, replace the seal and replentish with the proper grease. All this with heavy wind and rain plus a deadline we had to meet. Excellent service, friendly plus knowledgeable people and back in the water with time to spare. Thanks to Steve Tulevech and his team for an outstanding professional job!

Captain Dave

Good people, reasonable prices, 2012-01-23
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

We had a great stay at Town Creek. They plan to have docks rebuilt by late spring '12 from what the dockmaster told us. If you are given the dock farthest east be aware there is very little room to maneuver between the pilings and oyster shoals across.

Very helpful and courteous, 2011-12-28
Captain: , Duck, NC (60)

We had to take advantage of their repair services, including a haul out to repair a broken drive leg, could not have asked for a better first time experience. Steve was very kind and allowed us to observe the repair for future reference, the marina staff went out of their way to make our unexpected stay there comfortable. Although the docks were a bit beat up, they were very serviceable and are going to be replaced. Courtesy car -- and Amanda even mailed by phone charger back to me when I left in car!! Recommend the Beaufort Grocery for a great restaurant downtown.

Town Creek Marina, 2011-11-30
Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

Stopped here to have extensive repairs done. Staff was excellent and work was done as arranged. Repair staff communicated everything with me and would definitely recommend them for service. The marina is in need of some repair as Hurricane Irene took a toll on the docks, but they are working to get things back in shape

Excellent Marina, 2011-11-17
Captain: , Milford, NH (11)

Came here for Yanmar service. Very nice capable people. They let you use a free car. Commercial size laundry.

Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

The finger piers are so short in this marina that it is best to back in and make fast. With a N-NEwind it can be difficult but the staff is helpful. Some of the docks have concrete pilings on their floating docks for making fast: chafe protection a must. The diesel was resonalble @ $3.71 per gallon. The marina has everything for the transient. There seems to be ongoing reparirs. Hopefully, things will get better.

Still has issues after Irene, 2011-10-05
Captain: , Josephine Alabama (183)

We stopped with the intention of staying 2 nights, but only stayed one due to no 50 amp power or water at the transient dock. It is worth the stop to help them out and when they rebuild, it will be a very nice marina.

new docks in the future, 2011-09-19
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

Docks were wrecked in the hurricane, but have been patched together and the marina is back in business including fuel and pumpout. Four stars for now, but with new docks this will easily be a five star marina.

Great place to stop and dog frindly. Hurricane Irene wiped out docks., 2011-09-03
Captain: , Black Earth, wi (63)

We have been here a week and have found that this marina is close to about everything you need. 2 major food stores, ace hardware, fast food and a great restaurant and Tiki bar on site. Also No Name Pizza has the best Gyros I have ever had. People are really nice and with two big labs very dog friendly. Only a mile or so to the Beaufort waterfont if you want to walk. Totally touristy and to be avoided on weekends. Lots of things to see in the area. Also don't forget the horses on the islands. Week later. Love this place. Caught a 3' shark yesterday and today we
watched the dolphins frolic off the dock.

I hope my experience wasn't a common one, 2011-08-03
Captain: , Austin Texas (30)

I anchored out by the airport on a Sunday evening. Boat traffic was heavy and I decided to fuel first thing in the morning before departing out Beaufort Inlet. I called and found that they opened at 8:30 AM on Monday morning.

Monday morning I entered the marina at 8:35 AM and called on the radio for assistance finding the fuel dock and to advise I was single handed on a 49%u2019 sailboat and would appreciate someone receiving the mooring lines. No response. Called and called, no response. Found the fuel dock and successfully docked the boat myself. I again called on the VHF, no response. I hiked to the office and found the staff person engaged in a personal call. I explained that I had called and called and she assured me she heard nothing. She said she had turned on the fuel pump for me and I hiked back to the boat only to find that the pump wouldn%u2019t pump. Hiked back to the office and interrupted the personal call again and she once again said the pump was now turned on.

Pumped the fuel for a bit and the pump stopped. Yip, hiked back again and got the pump turned back on. I pumped the remaining fuel and suddenly had a small diesel fountain as the nozzle apparently won't kick off when the tank is full. Cleaned up the mess as best I could as there were no towels present. Arg.
The place seemed OK and I am hopeful that t I just had a morning where everything went wrong. Nonetheless, if you are expecting first class service, or even good service, I suspect this is not the marina for you. However, as they say, %u201CYour experience may vary%u201D.

A quiet enough harbor., 2011-07-08
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

The people who inhabit this marina are the real jewel here, a couple of which helped with lines upon our arrival. Staff was friendly enough, however, the bathrooms were rather messy and the men%u2019s room toilet was out of commission for the better part of two days according to one of the residents here. At the time of this writing there looked to be someone working on it.
Also, I want to mention the floating docks. The main docks are good but the fingers are very wobbly and one must use care when stepping off one%u2019s boat. There have been occasions when people have fallen and ended up in the water between the fingers and their boat.
They have a courtesy car which was one of the best loaners I have encountered during this trip. The only down side is that it needed to be returned by 6pm when the office closed which makes it tough if you want it use it to go to dinner. Just so happened that we got to know a couple across the dock from us who had a car and we ended up all having dinner together in Atlantic Beach.

Lots of wind the night we stayed there. Marina was full so we were at gas dock. Rocked and rolled all night. Restaurant is good. Chef Bob and Manager Bill are very entertaining. Food was delicious. Line handling was good. Not near town, but they do have a courtesy car that came in handy

Well run marina, 2010-10-26
Captain: , Deltaville (200)

Stayed here 2 nights 10/25/10. Very professsional dockhand (a boater herself) helped us reverse in to a piling slip near the town boat ramp with a high wind on the beam.

The entrance here from the ICW southbound needs some explanation. From the charts it looks as though there is a cut at marker R '34' DO NOT USE THIS CUT - IS HAS A PATCH WHICH IS DRY AT LOW WATER ! You must come off the ICW further north at Fl G 6S 'RS' and take the Russel Slough channel. Note that there are some shoal patches on this channel also, but we made it in with 5.5' draft OK.

Make sure that you turn smartly at Green '1' towards the marina or you will most likely go aground.

Good courtesy car available for 1Hr max which is enough to get to the local Food Lion / Piggly Wiggly.

Pumpout Expensive, 2010-08-03
Captain: , Houston, Texas (164)

We were referred to this establishment from Portside Marina. The pumpout here is $20 per pumpout This is the most expensive that we have seen so far. We did not go here and headed to Beaufort Docks.

All facilities in great shape. A good place to do an oil change. Long walk into Beaufort, but there is a courtesy car.
