Reviews for Tolers Cove Marina
Our new CHS stop!, 2016-10-23
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (430)

We stopped here for a night and could not have been more pleased. The price and convenience, along with the lack of current were welcome comparing to what we were used to staying in the downtown or Patriot's Point areas.
We would not stay here if we were planning to visit CHS for a couple of days, but Tolers is the perfect stop for migration north and south.
Thanks for a nice stay,
Peter & Anne on ARIES

First Class Treatment, 2016-04-25
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1836)

Kevins (Mgr/Dockmaster) treatment is outstanding. While I observed no deficiencies in property his treatment would make up for any, absolutely first class. Nice floating docks, 6 feet of water at low tide. Diesel was 3.96 plus tax.

4-24-16 Kevin is first class, left message on his cell and he returned call. We had called all marinas were full and we were looking for an anchorage and Kevin saved the day by putting us on his fuel dock. Can't say enough about his customer approach.

10-15-15 Agree with all of the comments re Kevin and dock crew. $1.50 per foot including elec. Staff drove us to airport for pickup. Staff will assist in every need you have. Highly recommend this marina.
4-28-15 Stopped for fuel, same first class treatment, channel recently dredged 12-13 ft least we saw. Recommend for anyone interested in this area. diesel was 2.85.

Convenient Stop, 2016-02-23
Captain: , Colorado (411)

They are located on the ICW just north of Charleston harbor so they are convenient for both ICW and outside passages. Entering their basin, there is shoaling on the south side so you need to angle in from the north to their PVC channel markers . We came in at night so it was difficult to see the markers (particularly the red ones over by the dock) and took us a couple tries to find the channel. From the south, continue on the ICW about 200 feet past the green side PVC then turn and aim for the corner of the dock. Turn paralell to the dock once you are close and go between the dock and the PVC. We saw 7 foot or more of water there.

Docks are reasonably well maintained floating concrete. Staff is very friendly and helpful and offers a free ride to local businesses for provisioning and supplies. 30 and 50A power available and moderately decent WiFi. No showers and only one utilitarian toilet in an unheated/cooled room, so don't expect much in the way of facilities. Fuel price was about average for the area and the employee didn't know anything about the transient discount for diesel mentioned on ActiveCaptain. Still a decent place to stop and reprovision or rest on a long trip. Would stop here again.

Goodv transient stop, 2016-02-08
Captain: , Fort Myers, Florida (581)

Stopped here to avoid sitting at anchor during gale force winds. Easy access off the ICW. Friendly helpful marina staff. Very protected from waves and current. Good wind protection except West through NE. Floating docks, 30 and 50 amp power and plenty of depth through out. Bathroom facility is poor, no shower.

Great spot to stage passage from Charleston south on the Atlantic, 2016-02-03
Captain: , Colchester VT (380)

We wanted to avoid the current and anchoring hassles of Charleston (however, if you have never been to visit Charleston, you really should. It is a wonderful, wonderful town) staging ourselves for an overnight out of there to go south and this was a great place to do it. We were through the Ben Sawyer swingbridge so we didn't have to worry about it for the morning start and we shaved about 2nm off of being up in Charleston. The marina staff was great. We came in at the end of the day so, after taking on fuel, we just stayed on the fuel dock. It was easy on, easy off the next morning. There is virtually no current in there to deal with and plenty of water depth. We saw perhaps 8' min at low tide the next morning on exit. A great marina - prices competative.

Great overnight place before southbound through Charleston, SC, 2015-12-11
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

Between long days it's a nice stop. Snuggled next to condos this small marina has floating dock slip with helpful staff.

Great place to stay near Charleston, 2015-09-17
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (72)

The dock crew here, headed up by Kevin, is the best. They bent over backwards accomodating us and providing local rides. Nearby are restaurants, Publix, West Marine, laundromat - you name it. The water at the marina is deep (newly dredged), the view is lovely, and the price is right, especially considering how much some of the marinas in Charleston proper cost. We had no worries when we left the boat for a week. Once their planned-for showers are in, I'll probably up my review to five stars.

Friendly Helpful staff, 2015-08-14
Captain: , Beaumont, TX (669)

A great stop with 7 feet at low tide all the way to the fuel dock. Kevin, the manager goes above and beyond with not only gettig tied and hooked up but simply says, tell us where you want to go we will take you. Helpful with having Napa deliver parts directly to our boat (shut down solenoid) Easy place to walk the dogs and easy walk from down town restaurants if you wish. Pretty, well protected and an easy stop. No showers but they are planned for.

Great Stop!, 2015-06-03
Captain: , Louisville (291)

Excellent access, just off the AICW. Tidal current is not a factor going in or out, like many other area marinas in this area. Like others said, Kevin and his team go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They drove us to West Marine and to a great restaurant on Sullivan's Island. We'll be back!

Another Gem, 2015-06-01
Captain: , New Bern, NC (476)

Stopped here vs downtown Charleston based on reviews from here. I agree with all. After 3 days at sea needed peace and quiet to rest up for the next jump north. Like others said nothing fancy but the staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is great.

Great Stop, 2015-05-23
Captain: , Midway,GA (261)

We stopped here to get away from the hussle and bussel of Charleston on a holiday weekend. The marina was very easy to enter no current to worry about and very nice docks. Kevin the dockmaster was very friendly and offered us a ride to any of the local stores and asked if we needed any supplies. No amenities what so ever except an outdated restroom at the marina office and we knew that coming in. They have plans for a new facilities like restooms ,showers and captains lounge in 2016. When this happens it will be a 5 star from me.Very secure gated community. I will return here again , enjoyed our stay and the staff.

Hidden Gems, 2015-05-14
Captain: , Wilmington NC (400)

Stopped here to recoup after crossing from Fernandina Bch on 5/11-12/2015. Kevin, dockmaster, has just a great attitude. entire staff friendly. Has approx 20 slips available for transient but call ahead because a lot of sport fishing boats use the marina. Got to watch boats coming in and cleaning their catch. Kevin tries to accomdate all boats. He's working on showers now but immediately offered rides to Publix or West Marine. Nice walk to Ft Moultrie on Sullivans Island. Poes Resturant is dog friendly and has great food. Very safe, protected friendly area. Lots of dog walk room. will definitely stop here again.

Great little hideaway, 2015-05-02
Captain: , Sarnia (371)

We stopped here to wait for bridge opening in the morning and take advantage of tides to go north. Can't beat the price and the friendly staff. Good depths on entry and all the way through. Very quiet and secure - gated community. Staff offered rides to market or downtown. Short walk to Sullivan's Island and some great restaurants. Only issue is the facilities - washroom is very basic and no showers.

Nice facility, 2015-04-17
Captain: , Galesville, MD (993)

Good price, good location, good staff. Recently dredged canal that leads to the marina. Didn't notice anything less than 10-11'. Good help tying up. Seemed to be mostly fishing boats. Not a lot of amenities, but if you don't need them (we don't) works well. Staff offered rides. Part of a gated community. West Marine and Publix not far. Restaurants beach also accessible. Sea Suds Laundry nice laundromat but need ride. Overall good value.

One stop shop!, 2015-02-06
Captain: , Destin flordia (10)

i stopped by the other night for a one night stay. The marina is conviently located for a short walk or bike ride to west marine, groceries, restaurants. The staff was MORE than willing to give me a ride to to any of these locations but i decided to ride my bike since ive been on the boat for 9 hours. i would totally recomend tolers to anyone traveling north or south in the Charleston area. The staff was excellent!

A bit challenging to enter but Great service, 2015-01-27
Captain: , Worland, WY (30)

Being renovated so no showers during our visit, but we have good shower on board. Lovely hike across swing bridge to Sullivan Island to the beach and amazing hamburgers at Poe's Bar and Grill (Edgar Alan Poe themed). Marina manager, Kevin took us to nearby Publix grocery and then a second trip to Laundry and propane fill. Tied up to fuel dock so we topped off our tanks with diesel and BoatUS discount. Extremely helpful staff. 1 mile to services in either direction on goid bike path.

Disappointed , 2014-12-09
Captain: , Dillon (163)

We stayed 3 nights. We had water and electric. THE only restroom was not heated. This Marina is a dock with zero facilities. We stayed here as the Waterway Guide said the had a courtesy car and laundry. NOT. Then the reviews said staff could take you. NOT. The Guide says groceries. NOT. RevieWs said staff would take you. NOT. I am not sure we stayed at the same "marina" the previous reviewers stayed at! We had to rent a car, get a taxi to the car, slep our dirty clothes around to get washed, get groceries, etc. we could have stayed at a center ally located marina for .50 cents more. It would we'll have been worth it. Will not stay here again.

12 Reasons I Chose Tolers Cove Marina for A 2 Month Stay on My Way South, 2014-12-01
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

1) Amazing %u201CFirst Rate%u201D Customer Service by Kevin Austin and his staff make transient crusiers welcome.
2) Floating Docks and Zero current (current at other Charleston marinas is significant)
3) Gated, Secure, Safe (left my boat for a couple of weeks for medical reasons)
4) Four Incredible Restaurants on Sullivan%u2019s Island (walking/bike distance)
5) Top rated Family 24hr Doctors office (walking distance)
6) West Marine (walking distance)(Marina Staff transportation)
7) Publix food store nearby (Marina staff transportation)
8) Easy Access to ICW and Atlantic
9) Scenic Location (Magnificent/Breathtaking Sunsets)
10) Lowest rates compared to other adjacent marinas
11) Newly paved designated bike lanes to Sullivan%u2019s Island and Publix Grocery Store
12) Beautiful Sullivan%u2019s Island Atlantic Beach

I had only intended to stay 4 nights on my trip South but ran into medical issues that caused me to seek competent local ambulatory medical services which I found within walking distance. My medical situation resulted in my flying back to Baltimore and leaving the boat for 2 weeks. While I was away, Kevin and his staff made sure my boat was fine. It is their helpful customer service that makes Toler%u2019s Cove Five Star Rating from me. It remains a fact that the marina does not have showers but my wife prefers showering on our boat so that was not a drawback. I have stayed 2 months with most of that time was with living-on-board, Kevin and his staff have done everything to make our stay pleasant.

Southern Hospitality at its BEST..!, 2014-11-28
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (10)

Great place to visit, provision, rest, etc... I wanted to fly home for Thanksgiving and found this nice snug harbor to put up my boat for 2 weeks. Dockmaster was/is very accomodating with offers to drive me to the airport, grocery store and West Marine.

A short (20 min) walk to a cute downtown with plenty of top quailty restaurants and access to a beauitful beach.

The navigation into this "snug" harbor is surprisingly easy with lots of water right up to the marsh grass on the port side of the chanel. My boat draws 5' and I never saw less than 8' when entering at MLW.

Although it "looks" tight, there was plenty of room to back down and spin my 40' sailboat.

When entering stay between the PVC Pole (port) & the docks (starboard). I hugged the docks all the way in but found plenty of water when I ventured to port a few times.

Perfect stop over whether travelling the ICW or going outside.

John and Kevin are real helpful. Will drive you to Publix for groceries.
No showers but electric included in the $1.50 price. Nice floating docks
Plenty of water going in I draw 6 ft.

Quick Acces to ICW, 2014-05-22
Captain: , Annapolis (125)

Great spot because it is next to Ben Sawyer Bridge so you can make the 7 AM oprning. Kevin and staff bend over backward to be helpful. At low tide we bumped coming in and at our dock.

easy to get to, 2013-12-03
Captain: , Santa Cruz, CA (150)

Right off the ditch, we tied up on the fuel dock. The manager and his staff were very friendly. Twenty minute walk to west marine. Public grocery store also a twenty minute walk. They need showers and then five stars for sure.

Great marina to leave your boat at, secure and safe., 2013-11-29
Captain: , Hawkestone, Ontario, Canada (45)

We needed to leave our boat while we returned to Canada for two weeks. Great place, Kevin (Owner Manager), and Stewart (Staff) were excellent in their customer relations. They provided numerous rides to town for laundry, provisioning, and to the Airport (both ways) Excellent service! good prices also. Clean, safe and secure. The only draw back is the delay in the building of their new marina building providing the facility with showers. Would highly recommend it.

Not Isle of Palms' Amenities or Price, 2013-11-17
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (250)

We stopped here 11/17/13 rather than Isle of Palms or Charleston. The price is cheaper ($1.50/ft), but there are no showers. Fuel is cheaper than Isle of Palms, too. Sullivans Island restaurants are short cab ride away. Dock hand gave us a lift. Go to Poe's. Best hamburger or fish tacos you'll ever eat. Seriously.

Tolers Cove is not fancy, but certainly adequate for a one-night stopover.

Best Sunset View in Charleston Area, 2013-11-05
Captain: , Nashville (315)

Our raw water pump failed on us so we called Tolers Cove because their rates were better than other marinas in the area (we weren't sure how long it would take us to get parts and swap out the pump). Kevin and Stuart were wonderful and very accomodating. Drove us to downtown Charleston to pick up a rental car and made us feel very welcome.

The marina has nice floating face docks for transients. Easy entrance. This is predominately a fisherman's marina so lots of traffic from the mostly small fishing boats, but even still there was very little to no wake and the current protection was great. The bathroom was fine - just one small bathroom that could use a woman's touch and a good scrubdown, but not terrible. No showers which was the downside, but the friendly staff, excellent location (just across the bridge from the AWESOME Sullivan's Island - get a burger at Poe's, you won't regret it), and gorgeous sunset views more than make up for it. We will definitely stay here again if we're ever in the Charleston area.

Pleasant stop, 2013-05-31
Captain: , Marathon (40)

All side-tie docking. New upgrades on the way. No current. Nothing nearby, but you can get ride.

Emergency stop, 2013-05-15
Captain: , Las Vegas (282)

Coming north with heavy winds we could not get through Ben Sawyer Bridge. They have a 25mph wind limit for opening and had been closed for a day already with no relief in sight. We called and discovered Tolers does take transients so gladly pulled in to stay for a couple of nights waiting out the weather. Kevin was most helpful meeting us in his launch and directing us to a face dock location. A little skinny at low tide in the entrance but fine once in. Pretty sparce on the extras but met our needs exactly.

Great Spot for Single Screw Boats - No Current!, 2013-04-20
Captain: , Atlantic Beach, NC (31)

Arrived in Charleston during Race Weekend and most marinas were full. Had reservations at another marina but the currents were so strong, and the wind was blowing 20+, I decided to cancel and called Kevin at Toler's Cove. It's literally just off the ICW with easy entrance, floating docks and no current to deal with, just the wind. Kevin found me a spot, gave me detailed directions into his marina and assisted us upon arrival. Currently without showers, they get 4 stars but after construction of new showers/restrooms later in 2013, I would give them 5 stars. Thanks Kevin!

Captain: , Hilton Head Island (86)

We didn't want to get stuck in bad weather going through Charleston so decided to stop in Toler's Cove for the evening. The location is very convenient to the ocean and the ICW with a great view of the marshes and Charleston Harbor. We had just stocked up on our boat but were offered transportation to restaurants, groceries and West Marine both on our arrival and prior to departure. We knew there were no showers before making our decision to stay, they say there are new facilities which should be ready by the end of the 2013 season which will include showers, laundry and restaurant. We stayed on the fuel dock which had a bathroom with toilet and sink.. convenient but minimal. I see a lot of potential and will stop again on our way back up north. As other boaters have said we had a lot of assistance from the Dock Master and Dock Hands.. There is plenty of room for transients, just give them a call.

Great Transient Service, 2013-01-03
Captain: , Libertyville, IL (10)

We called ahead and were told by dockmaster Kevin Austin that they do take transients and a 49' slip was available for the night. Our ETA was an hour after their scheduled closing time. He said someone would be waiting for us when we arrived and gave detailed directions on how to enter the marina around a shoal. We were then delayed for 2 hours waiting for the tide to fall enough for us to clear the Isle of Palms Bridge. Then we developed an engine problem. After coasting through the Ben Sawyer Swing Bridge with perfect wind and current, we were able to get the engine going enough to get us to the marina entrance but without enough speed for decent steerage. We went aground outside of the marina at about 9 p.m. Kevin, who had monitored our difficulties by phone and radio was still waiting for us and came out with his boat to pull us off and bring us into the marina. The friendly service was outstanding. He was also concerned that so many people believe that Toler's Cove does not take transients. They welcomed us very warmly.

Nice overnight stay, 2012-12-11
Captain: , Chesapeake (261)

Heading south on the ICW, a late afternoon storm came up. Anchoring just wasn't appealing, so I checked AC. One review wrote this stay off, but I called. And am glad I did!

awsome service, 2012-10-27
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (10)

Kevin and his crew were extremely accommodating. we were outrunning Hurricane Sandy and needed a place to go. Kevin promised us space without a credit card and the space was there when we arrived 2 days later. Kevin was extremely helpful with directions, suggestions, and transportation. Next time I need to stop in Charleston I will come to Toler's with out question.

Though facilities are minimal the staff couldn't be nicer. Restaurants and groceries near by, fuel and dockage cheapest in Charleston and best part is closest marina to ocean.

Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (30)

I stopped in here to weather a storm the manager Kevin is great he gave a ride into downtown Charleston to rent a car so I could drive back to fl for a week great rates power and water included first night there walked across bridge to Sullivan's island great bars and friendly people it would be 5 star but there currently is no showers

Great Marina & Staff, 2012-10-18
Captain: , Kenai (20)

We looked at all the Marinas in the Charleston area and Tolers Cove offered the best choice for erveything we needed. Their rates are the lowest in Charleston while providing excellent service. The staff was extremely helpful for our every need and we cannot say Thank You enough for all they done for us during our stay.
We had just bought our boat and needing to equip it before leaving in 1 months' time required a lot of items being shipped to the marina. When our packages would arrive they would boat them over to us from the fuel dock and hand deliver our items even when I ordered a 110lb inflatable boat. That's service!
One of the best things about Tolers Cove is there is no current to deal with like all the other marinas in Charleston. Another reason we chose Tolers Cove was its proximity to all the stores and reataurants. Sullivan's Island about 1 mi away has many great small local palces to eat out and about 1 1/2 away is West Marine and grocery stores to restock the galley.
We would recommend Toler Cove to anyone needing a slip for just 1 night or for the long-term.

Beautiful Spot, 2012-06-10
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

Came here because the current is not like the rest of Charleston. Touched bottom (5 feet) entering the channel but much deeper inside. Nice docks/slips but a bare bones facility. Don't expect much except for a beautiful sunset. Also tight turning around in a 48 footer but it was low tide when I did this. I will go back.

Tolerance Cove Marina, 2012-04-20
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1328)

Very good stop for quick over night. Good floating docks and NO current. Close to ICW but good wake protection. No showers or rest rooms. Isolated from restaurants/shopping. $1.50/ft includes electricity.

Five star service...., 2012-04-05
Captain: , Havre de Grace, MD (31)

Fantastic service! THEY DO TAKE TRANSIENTS! Perfect stop after 26 hours outside....fuel, help at the dock upon arrival and well maintained floating docks. Quiet and friendly! One star removed for new heads and shower blocks not yet come in 2013! I can not say enough about the helpfulness of yhe staff.

Captain: , Annapolis, MD (343)

The marina has very good docks and the manger kevin was very helpful. There were no heads or showers available. Their website (update 4/1/2012) indicated transient slip fees were $1,25 per foot, but they charge $1.50 (electricity included but not taxes). Not a good choice for seeing historic Charleston, but your just passoing through north or south, it's OK

Pet friendly and very comfortable, 2011-11-22
Captain: , Galena, MD (1826)

Docks are in great shape. Facility is gated so very secure. Dockmaster Kevin was very helpful with directions and docking. They are interested in transient business. We did not walk to town but were told there are several good restaurants only 15-20 minutes away and West Marine in a long walk/short ride away.
No laundry or bath facilities available or would rate 5 star.
Would stay here again.
Quiet with little activity on the docks. Travelling south just right after the Ben Sawyer bridge on port side all the way around back.

Great moderately priced stop, 2011-06-06
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3048)

Well it seems they do take transients but only if space is available. So just call and see. Obviously it is not set up like a transient marina but choices are few short of Charleston so it is a good moderately priced stop on the way into Charleston. Good alongside docks and power. Easy in and out.

Do not take Transients, 2010-10-15
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

I called and they told me they no longer take transients. It was late in the day, I needed dockage for only one night, and there werer many empty slips in the marina. I'd list this place as not taking transients. I am local, and other boaters state the same thing

Great out of the way marina, 2010-02-23
Captain: , Stuart, FL (416)

I stayed there for a one month last year and two months this year. I thought it was great. Limited transient space at times but call ahead to reserve with no problem.

Recently dredged. 10' at low tide. Very secluded and quiet and very well protected. Not many live-a-boards, just mostly sport fishermen. Restaurants and shopping are a long walk (25 min) but well worth the walk. Downtown Sullivans Island has at least 10 great bars and restaurants. Great staff, reasonable prices and fuel available. Small ships store on site but limited.

West Marine 1.3 miles 25 min walk
Downtown Sullivan;s Island 1.2 miles 22 minute walk
