Reviews for Tolchester Marina, Inc.
UCRB Tolchester Takeover, 2016-09-17
Captain: , Rising Sun,Md (42)

Reserved a Floating dock for this event with the UCRB group, made the 1hour and 15min trip from Port Deposit Md. with my first mate and wife Laurelle. We were met at our slip by one of the dock hands who helped us dock our 20ft Bayliner cuddy and check us in for the weekend. We enjoyed the pool and tikki bar and the bands playing at night. With 35 to 40 other club members who came from all over the Upper Bay we had a lot of fun Saturday night enjoying crabs and food for a meet and great. Over all we would love to return to this Marina in the future.

Supportive staff, 2016-08-25
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1211)

We stopped in Tolchester Marina while on a road trip to the Eastern Shore (business for me, pleasure for Janet). We got permission from the office for a walk on the private beach (available to transients).

The office staff could not have been nicer. The facility is clearly getting some attention and upgrades are underway which, to me, shows care and attention.

Definitely far from anything so provision before you stop here.

I'm a little nervous about bringing my 6' draft sailboat in, but without this visit I wouldn't have bothered. Having seen the place and met the staff I will definitely do the work (high tide with a South wind) to come visit.

Great Marina but Needs Work, 2016-08-06
Captain: , Forked River, NJ (114)

I'm giving this marina a four star rating only because it needs work. The office people are great, the dock hands are great. We had a blast at the Tiki bar while a very good local band was playing. It appears as though some areas of the marina have been updated and maintained. But still mos tof the docks are badly weathered and splintered and are in need of repair. I would definately visit here again dispite the disrepair state of much of the docks.

Not what I expected, 2016-07-24
Captain: , Middle River, MD (70)

Sailboats are not a priority at this marina. It is all about transient power boats and the bar, live music and the beach. Resturant has very limited hours - Friday to sunday but closes at 3 pm on Sunday. Sailboats are located on a pier far from all all facilities on some very old docks.

Great for a day or longer, 2016-06-27
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

I came to this Marina 2 summers ago, last year and again just this past weekend. There have been improvements every season and this year it was fantastic. Property, slips, staff, location...all great. With continued improvements planned, Tolchester Marina is sure to be one of the best on the bay.

Great Marina With a Breathtaking view, 2016-06-19
Captain: , Chestertown Maryland (33)

I have visited Tolchester Marina several times, and have been more impressed everytime that i arrive. I finally scampered out to the shanty last week and the view was amazing. The marina has undergone alot of renovation and esthetic enhancements recently and is one of the best marinas on the bay!! They also have alot of up and coming concerts which can be found on there website... We will be going back again soon.

Pleasant Stopover, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (216)

Recommended by a fellow cruiser, we stayed last Saturday after a rough ride getting there. Upon arriving the dockmaster directed us to our slip where a most-helpful dock hand got us settled in. He spent all the time we needed to get the lines situated and power set up. We heard that the tiki bar was a great stopping point so we set off for it. A long walk around the marina but it was worth it. New decking around the tiki bar and along the short promenade (my description) where there were lounge chairs with umbrellas overlooking an unobstructed view of the Chesapeake to the west with a beach. The only thing that could have been better would be to move the restaurant from the shipyard area over to that same view of the water. They have plans to upgrade all of the docks to the same level - looking forward to that too as the planking at the slips is pretty rundown. Covered and open transient slips available - be sure to specify your preference.

Outstanding Restaurant,, 2015-06-01
Captain: , Chester, MD (13)

We stayed overnight May 30, 2015 after a sleigh ridge from Delaware City Marina to Tolchester. 8 hours on a 25 foot O'Day. (Thanks to Delaware City staff and their advice on C & D canal currents). Stayed near the fuel dock and Tiki Bar. Tiki Bar is almost Carribean with a beach and view of the bay. The restaurant dinner was the best I've had this year, amazing Cajun style fish. Restaurant open from 6 to 8. Tiki Bar open from 6 to "whatever. Free access to the pool next to the Tiki Bar. DJ played until 11, not too bad. Pool showers are basic but close to transient slips Full Marina showers are a bit of a walk, same building as the Marina Office and Restaurant, much better finished. Left at 8:30 am, but office was not open, gave pool key to staff doing trash cans.

Great Beach Bar, 2014-08-04
Captain: , Middle River (130)

One of the best Beach Bars on the upper Bay. Easy to get in and usually no problem tying up to eat. Well worth a visit.

Good place to get fuel., 2013-07-19
Captain: , Worton Creek, MD (290)

We usually stop here on the way to Rock Hall. The marina is easy to get in and out of. Prices are reasonable, and they have both block ice and cubes ( block ice not easy to find).

Great Service, but Definitely Rural, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Marblehead MA (40)

We needed some work done and were very pleased with Benjie and Charles Shriley's prompt attention and service, competency, sense of urgency and thoroughness.

The marina is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, so go with whatever you think you will need for groceries, wine, good books, etc!

Bring everything you need, 2012-10-14
Captain: , North Point Creek (41)

This marina is nice and quiet but there is one baad reason there is not a store that is close to shop the closes store is 7 miles in Rock Hall. So i say bring everything like a camping trip.

Great Sunset Views From Beach Bar, 2012-10-01
Captain: , Magothy River (319)

We love the pool and watching the sunset to the west from the bar at their beach. The on-site restaurant is seasonal and there is no food close by. Fixed docks can make getting a dog off the boat a challange here.

Great Overnight Stay, 2012-09-05
Captain: , Middle River, MD (70)

Our weekend group headed over Saturday morning, (8/18/12) slipped right at the dock office. Had a great stay, Facilities are great, Pool/TikiBar/Sunset. We're going back for sure.

Beautiful Sunsets, 2012-07-08
Captain: , Middle River, MD (45)

Just returned from a two-day stay. Covered slips. Friendly slipholders and staff. Slow but decent breakfast at the Channel Restaurant. Long walk to the pool, beach and Tiki Bar, but the mudslides are worth it. Spent a nice day keeping cool in the bay then listened to a band on the beach in the evening. Very laid-back atmosphere. 30 minutes from mouth of Middle River.

Working Yard, 2012-06-02
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Florida (500)

Only reason to go is to have repairs done. Great reputation for diesel mechanics and major repairs.

Convenient Stop, 2011-10-05
Captain: , Sodus Point, NY (688)

Stopped for one night on our way to Annapolis. Too much debris to sail into the evening, so we stopped here. Quick in and out. Friendly staff and inexpensive to stay. Washer and dryer worked well for us. Off-season, so restaurant was closed. Very quiet, nice place to stop for an overnight. Fixed docks for sailboats. We stayed at a 25' long one.

Stay Away Resturant Closed, 2011-09-02
Captain: , Phila, PA (293)

The epitome of a self serving business. Management puts themselves before the customers. We had no working washers or dryers for most of this year. Sometimes we have wi-fi. Resturant is open only for over priced, mediocre breakfast on Sat & Sun only. Tiki bar is open erratically. Drinks are $8.00, if you can get one. All in all, just a bad "give us your money and leave us alone" attitude. They're famous crab cakes left here many years ago with the woman that made them. Fuel is always at least 30 cents higher than anywhere else.

Fuel Pump replacement, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

Our John Deere was having trouble starting. We kept gettng a fuel pump alert but no diagnosis. We were able to get the boat to Tolchester where Charles agreed to see our boat the same day. That never happens! So true to his word, a mechanic came to our boat a looked at the alert and called JD for a diagnosis. We needed a new fuel pump. This was about 4:00pm. Charles was able to order a new pump and get it here the next day!!! It arrived this morning and we hope to have it installed today so we can continue our journey up the east coast in the morning.

It has everything, 2011-07-08
Captain: , Philadelphia (10)

Real Eastern Shore - good mechanics, pool, shelter, fuel, bar and food.

Visited A Number of Years Ago, 2011-04-11
Captain: , New London, PA (302)

Safe harbor during foul weather and convenient to get to, right off the main shipping channel. Nice restrauant on site and staff seemed friendly.

Good hole to hide in, 2009-06-02
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, Middle R., Chesapeake (420)

Just off the shipping channel with good entrance. Fuel available. Facilities decent, not great. Pool for slip holders and transients. Sand beach with bar serving sandwiches. Restaurant and bar on property serves good food. There are slips for use by restaurant patrons. Can tie up at docks and fuel pier after hours for restaurant use, not overnight.

Great People, Excellent Service, 2009-03-23
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (37)

Tolchester is a great marina to get away., we visit every year. They have a world-class marine service operation, that was voted Best In the Bay for 2008. Great little sandy beach right on the bay, with tiki-bar
Take your bikes, nice ride on country roads to Rock Hall

A favorite Place, 2009-01-06
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (495)

The best crab cakes on the bay. I have stayed here many times over the last 20 years and have always found it a great place. In the summer try the Mud Slide at the TiKI bar.

Good Marina, 2008-09-12
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (768)

Kind of a work marina. Clean & neat. No restaurant

Beautiful scenery!, 2007-06-18
Captain: , East Greenbush, NY (705)

This is a real old school marina. In addition to standard slips there are a number of old covered slips with some real classic boats. There is some beautiful scenery as you walk around the grounds. It is also MAJORLY protected - you have to navigate a couple of dredged turns to get in. While the details state 6' for the approach, we draw 5'8" and had plenty of water under as at all times (we were in 10' at low tide). Definitely a must see marina!
