Reviews for Alpena Municipal Marina
A long way in, 2017-08-30
Captain: , Golden CO (39)

Kind of a rustic facility which is owned and maintained by the city, limiting what the operators can do. Nice town, several bars - including a wine bar - the Fresh Palate which we highly recommend for dinner.

Great location, great town!, 2017-08-16
Captain: , Honolulu (712)

Very sheltered at the end of Thunder Bay. Groceries, restaurants, farmers market, all within walking distance. Trolley around town for $1, takes you to Walmart, Meijer, etc., picks up a block away. Summer concerts in the bandshell next to the harbor, Alpena Yacht Club in the harbor with lots of friendly members. $37 a night for a 36' in August of 2017. Repair facility, fuel etc.

Docking $1.00/ft but had no power and no water, no discount offered from standard price. Went back up to Marina for another item and they offered to have me change slips to one they know has power and refunf my $$$. I'm liking them better. I wonder if the A/C review had anything to do with that.

Bypass this Marina, 2016-08-03
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (10)

If you can, bypass this marina. The maintenance is poor and the docks can be very dangerous. I know this from experience, having gone for an unintended swim when a post collapsed. City wouldn't cover the cost of a lost iPhone.

Plenty of room and depth at the docks. Dock hands helpful. But the washrooms were in need of some updating / cleaning. Oh, and no WiFi. We were there during the weeklong Brown Trout Festival but the noise on Sun/Mon was not bad at all. Walking distance to town to reprovision / have a snack. We got lunch to go at "The Fresh Palate"- recommended.

The marina needs some work the restrooms were dirty and the staff weren't too helpful. The power pedestal for our slip was broken and although I told the dock staff several times they didn't seem to care. I duck taped it all somewhat together so the rain wouldn't enter and short my connection, either way those sort of things are easy and should be a priority to fix.
The Avis gentleman (Dwayne) at the airport was great and picked us up and dropped us off at the marina for no charge.
The town is nice and the Maritime museum is awesome, however I would skip this stop next time.

A great stopover location, 2014-07-09
Captain: , Pittsburgh (564)

Friendly staff in quiet location with nearby amenities to re-provision.
For those wanting to get boat work done the marina store next to the docks has friendly service, however we have no personal experience of work being carried out.

Small marina but you get small marina service, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Milwaukee (651)

We were running about a hour and a half past there close time, but since they knew we were coming, theyhad a dockman stay to gas us up and asign us a slip. Very helpfull and the gas dock. as well as at our slip. Very samll marina, in fact I think the USCG, NOAA, Sheriff and local police were the only ones at the dock this evening. A few block walk to an assortment of resturants. Would deffinetly reccomed.

Great staff and good marine store... push button showers., 2013-06-21
Captain: , Brisbane, Australia (399)

The staff was helpful and friendly. The marina quiet. Nice one design fleet. Within walking distance of the grocery shopping, post office, restaurants, bars and the NOAA museum. The bathrooms clean but they have the silly push button showers. Not a good shower stop. There is a strong onshore breeze most afternoons so leave early.

Thunder Bay Shores Marine, 2012-04-06
Captain: , Muskegon Mi (90)

Great Staff, nice little marina. Stopped in middle May and was the only boat in the marnia. Staff loaned us bikes to check out town. Small marine store with your basic needs located on the other side of the parking lot. Make surre you check out the maritime musemum. Great history on Great Lakes shipwreaks

Good average marina. Great staff. Laundry is close, as is the library which has free computer access. Shops are near by.

Godd Place to stopover for supplies and groceries., 2011-07-02
Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

Alpena is a fairly good sized city and has lots of stores. The Marina is modern and well maintained. Like many of the Marinas in Lake Huron, there is lots of space in the them. Floating docks with ample room. To bad they don't have WiFi.

Alpena Municipal Marina, 2011-04-03
Captain: , Hammond Bay (1841)

Helpful staff. All basic facilities provided, showers, restrooms, diesel, gas, pump outs. It is near town and at Thunder Bay Marine there is a ships store.

Quiet town, quiet marina marina but nice people.

Alpena Marina, 2010-06-19
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Nice quality michigan marina. Bathrooms aren't as new as some of the marinas to the south, but still clean and well maintained.

Dial a ride $1.50 to anywhere in town is handy ($2.50 outside city limits)

Quiet, not much business , 2009-09-10
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

clean, helpful dockhand. Not much going on.
