Reviews for Thessalon Municipal Marina
Clean marina and toen had everything we needed, 2017-08-09
Captain: , Elk Rapids (130)

We stopped in here simply because we never had been before. We are glad we did.

The young ladies working there yesterday were immediately responsive to the radio, met us at the dock to grab lines and checked us in efficientlly.

Checking out today and fueling was done just as efficiently.

Staff was friendly and seemed glad to have us staying with them.

The bathrooms/showers were clean which felt great after our two nights in Little Current. The building with the baths and a day room is great, with a kitchen and reading room to wait out stormy weather.

The town has a close-by hardware store, family diner-style restauarnts fairly close and reasonably close grocery store. Bicycles are available for free use at the marina.

The only negative was the sketchy WiFi. It was fast and reliable by the office but absent on the docks.

The town is not a hub of nightlife (although they do have a curling club there!) but offers everything we look for.

Good stop within the north channel, 2017-06-13

The marina has a very nice clubhouse for boaters to use, complete with showers, laundry, kitchenette, and lounge area. Pumpout and gasoline, but no diesel. Water and electric at slip for additional charge. Staff was helpful at gas dock and with info about the town. The slips on the outer wall are extremely long and deep - we saw 12.5 feet with our bow right at the breakwall. When approaching, look for the building with the blue roof. Then only negative about the marina is that there isn't much wind protection in the marina basin - we were there riding out a storm and witnessed (almost) whitecap conditions in the marina and a very rolly night. Otherwise it's a nice marina in a very small town.

Nice Small Town, 2016-07-10
Captain: , League City, Texas (293)

The marina staff were helpful in docking. The facilities are great. A grocery store, hardware store, and restaurants all within walking distance. An easy place to call in to clear Canadian customs with a phone behind the marina office for this purpose. Rankin Supply delivered oil to our slip as it was time for an oil change on the old diesels. Everyone we talked with were very friendly. We didn't have a fishing license but fellow boaters did and they were catching fish right off the docks.

Good Entry Into Canada, 2015-09-10
Captain: , Milwaukee, WI (358)

Nice facilities, with bathrooms, showers, and lounge recently redone nicely. Remember Canadian marinas monitor VHF 68, not 16. Customs check in via phone on the back outside wall of the marina office. Extra charge for electric at the slip... they do loan power cords if you need an extension.

Like others have said, the town is a little hurt. I found a decent grocery store, hardware store, and a one restaurant open on the other side of the peninsula (Sunset Beach Cafe... I'd go there again).

nice marina but strange town, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

marina was great - good condition, nice staff, wide docks, very well protected, good power and some of the nicest rest rooms, showers and captains lounge we'd seen in a while. nothing bad to say about this place. we walked through the town but found only 2-3 people walking around and almost everything was closed. strange vibe to it, but wouldnt hesitate to come back to the marina

Very safe and secure, 2015-08-11
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

These slips are HUGE. Very safe and well protected harbor. Great showers and lounge, lousy wifi! Lesson #1 -- don't put wifi under a metal roof! But the overall marina was very good -- and terrific dock staff. The town was delightful. We happened on it when they were celebrating "Heritage Day". Logs being chopped, bagpipes, funny floats -- it had it all.

Nice marina. , 2015-07-14
Captain: , DBBC- Cheboygan, MI (20)

The town is suffering as many small towns are. Many businesses are closed. The Peppermill Restaurant that was a boater favorite is closed. Not able to find any good place to eat. There are a few greasy spoon places. The harbor was operated by 2 younger folks who did a great job on the radio and were on hand to help us dock. We were one of 2 transient boats in the harbor so there was room to spare on the long docks.

The other reviews cover the other pluses to this place. However plan on doing your shopping before 4pm as the place does roll up the sidewalks about then.

Best place for Canadian checkin, 2014-12-27
Captain: , Milwaukee WI (939)

The marina is only a few hours sail north of Drummond Island so an easy entry to Canada via their onsite phone. Not a large marina, but we have been here several times without a reservation and no problem getting a slip. Slips are long enough for two boats so a power extension may be necessary for the second boat (marina has extension cords to loan). Marina facilities are first rate, with newer two story building. Great showers on first floor and lounge and kitchen on second floor.

Town is a couple of blocks away with hardware, LBCO, bank, good grocery, best giftshop in the North Channel and a wonderful restaurant, The Pepper Mill. Grocery staff drove us back to the boat when we loaded up on Labor Day. Also nice breakfast/sandwich place on the opposite side, Sunset Grill.

Their diesel tank ruptured in 2013 and they have not been able to replace it due to Canadian EPA laws so don't plan on getting fuel here. Best to fill up in Drummond or DeTour so you have enough to get to Gore Bay.

Loaner bikes seal the deal, 2014-08-09
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

This is a great stop. Nice floating long floating docks, summer help is very good at getting you into the dock.

Go to the Pepper Mill for dinner. There is also a Valuemart and a great hardware store.

They have loaner beach bikes that are in great shape to take you to town. Take the extra five minutes to bike to the north of town and look down the river that divides the town.

Wonderful marina and staff, 2014-07-30
Captain: , Austin, TX (877)

We enjoyed our stay here. Marina is in top notch condition, very clean, new power and water pedestals, docks in excellent condition, and very helpful staff. We had a wonderful dinner at The Pepper Mill, and homemade warm from the oven blueberry pie. Nice grocery, Home Hardware. Also loaner bicycles, fun to ride.

Thess Marina, 2014-07-12
Captain: , Ottawa, Ont (10)

We made a reservation knowing we would arrive after hrs. The dockboy was there to meet us anyway at 745pm. Great service. The marina facilities are clean and newer and the docks offer good protection. Seems like a quiet place.

Don't go there on a Sunday!, 2013-07-15
Captain: , Cheboygan (426)

By 4p on Sunday everything basically is closed. Better eat on the boat! Wi-Fi is almost here. Young ladies at dock don't know how to pull a boat in so we got scratched. When we called in they answered but we could hardly understand her girlish voice and had to repeat several times.

Good location but so so marina, 2012-08-05
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4187)

Great geographic location for the cross-over to Michigan. Nice town nearby. Laundry machines on premises. However, no power ON THE DOCKS. Its at the top of the main pier so if you are the second boat on the dock (behind the first boat) you will need an extension cord. Marina has extension cords. But the AC power breakers are set up on the pedastel in such as way as you dont know which breaker is for which outlet. No water on the dock either. Its also at the head of the dock on the main pier. Only two hose bibs. So if two boats get here ahead of you and connect to it, you dont have water unless you can run from your boat tanks.
Young kids work here. Inexperienced and not very well trained. I get the impression this marina is not well managed. I called a day in advance and made a sliip reservation. Day of arrival I called 45 min ahead of arrival and received a slip assignment. Then when I arrived, another boat was in the slip THEY assigned me.

Nice Marina, 2012-07-15
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Well protected by outlying breakwaters and stone dock. Dockage is on long finger piers with usually two boats moored one behind the other on each floating finger pier. Utilities are not on the finger pier but are on the fixed dock at the head of each finger. Because we were the 2nd boat on our pier we had to use two 50 ft electric cords to reach the power pedestal and could not access water because we only had one 50 ft hose. Town is a short walk wit several okay restaurants. We liked the peper mill and were less enamored by the pub. Marina has free laundry machines and free loaner bikes. Very nice showers and boater lounge.

Great Stop, 2012-01-28
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (201)

Spotless facilities, well protected docks, very helpful young staff. Short walk or bike ride to main street for easy provisioning. Friendly folks in town. Visited here July 2011.

Beautiful Marina, 2011-07-20
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Extremely clean marina grounds. Young staff is very helpful. Long high cement dock & break water keep all storms at bay. Wind floats above the boats. The piers are new, wide and modern. Active town, go to Tina's for wine & dinner. Free appitizer for boaters. A very good over night stop. Groceries & hardware avaialble. Bikes from marina are free to use. Only drawback is that the WIFI is at library 5 min away.

Thessalon Marina, 2010-12-31

Quiet well protected harbour. A great overnight or destination. Lots of room for transients. All amenities only a short walk. Beautiful marina building and friendly community.
