Reviews for The Village of Ilion Marina
Nice stopover, 2016-10-12
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (130)

Stopped in to refill water and pick up ice. Lovely marina with a long wall. Part of an RV park and would have made a lovely overnight. Facilities are very clean and well kept!

Good Marina to Stop at, 2016-09-23
Captain: , La Crosse, WI (627)

Staff helpful. Restrooms and showers reasonably clean. Power and water available. Nice town. The Remington museum is worth the walk. We were there in September and the restaurant on the harbor was closed for the season. Lots of car/truck/train traffic.

Nice marina & RV Park and the village is within walking distance, 2016-08-02
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

Don the dock manager was helpful. The side-tie wall, power, water, and facilities are at a reasonable cost. It was a good place to stay over, get a pump out, and refill the water tanks. Fuel is also at a good price. The Remington Arms Company and museum is 5-6 blocks away. On the way back you can stop by the wine & spirits shop, pharmacy, or grocery. However, make certain you get a steak sandwich and ice cream from the Marina's Voss casual grill - the price and taste of the food is really good.

Happy Campers, 2016-08-01
Captain: , Newburgh,NY (100)

We stopped here on 7/26/16 in our 34' trawler. Dockmaster answered phone after hours and was very helpful. We pretty much hooked up to power and stayed aboard during this stay, we did not eat out or go to town. Nice setting.

Nice marina, well run, 2016-07-07
Captain: , Newcastle upon Tyne (463)

We put our boat here for 2 weeks. (the 2016 weekly rate is $100 up to 35', $125 over 35'.) Don the dockmaster is very obliging and ran us into Utica to the Amtrak station. The marina is in a park, and there is some RV parking on site, which justifies the facilities provided. There is a cafe selling fast food and ice cream. Near to Aldi. There is some road and train noise, but not as loud as some other locations.

diesel stop 2.45, 2016-06-19
Captain: , Sodus Bay, New York (220)

friendly, clean. diesel 2.45 and a quick shower

Nice Stop at Ilion Marina, 2016-05-29
Captain: , Louisiana, MO (295)

We stopped at Ilion Marina to top our fuel tanks, pump out and top our water tank. Good service, tremendious water pressure. Also went to the Remington Arms museum--very nice and worth the 8 block walk. Nice Italian restaurant about 4 blocks away and a snack place onsite open tilll 8pm

Been here twice, 2015-10-31
Captain: , Lake Champlain (210)

Good stop for transients, but limited space on the wall. Call ahead if the canal is busy. Well kept facility, but bathrooms need attention. Nice to have washers/dryers available. Easy walk to town.
Last time I was here the manager indicated the Remington facility has decided to stay. May be open to thepublic again?

Easy access and very relaxing, 2015-09-21
Captain: , Little River, SC (731)

A great place for a stopover - or more. Long, high concrete wall made easy on/off our high freeboard 46 Uniflite. Very relaxing and pretty park setting. Wifi pwd given us was incorrect. Verify before the dockmaster leaves. Nice, clean restrooms. Easy walk into town.

Surprise Stopover, 2015-08-17
Captain: , Racine, WI (515)

Nice place to stop. Price is great, hot dogs at their stand very good. Easy in and easy out. Someone there to catch a line.

Good place to stop, 2015-07-18
Captain: , Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac (145)

Nice place, mooring for $1 a feet, electricity, wifi, and cable TV include. Clean bathrooms and laundry. Easy to walked into town.

Inexpensive and easy stop, 2015-07-16
Captain: , Falmouth, Maine (86)

We spent 4 nights here as the canal was closed ahead of us. Great weekly rate and good services nearby.

Great stopping place, 2015-07-10
Captain: , Gibson Island, Maryland (140)

Nice place, free electric, wifi, and cable TV. Clean bathrooms and laundry. We walked into town on the Fourth of July. The hardware store and Chinese restaurant were open. Celebrated the 4th in one of the pavilions with other boaters at the marina.

Great Place to stop, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Tonawanda,NY (261)

Great service, shoping in walking distance

Didn't intend to stop but Glad we did, 2015-06-17
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (995)

Stopped here because of a pending storm coming at us. Thought we would dock up for a couple of hours but the storm decided to slow down so the Locks closed and we spent the night. I had called the dock master to tell him we were spending the night and he said he would come down if needed for wifi info. Said would see him in the morning and got the WIFI info from one of the RV parked in the parking lot. There is a small takeout place there that has a great collection of eats. I couldn't stand it and got a Stawberry Malt with extra Malt. All other food i saw coming out looked great. Called a cab to go to dinner and Grocery Store. Cab Driver found us a great pizza/italian place Yettys. Because it was Sunday, others were closed. She also took us to the Grocery Store and back. The price was extremely resonable considering she waited at the store for us to shop.
Would stay here again in the future.

Ths city marina has it all., 2015-06-14
Captain: , Illinois (2444)

This marina has it all, clean showers, laundry, wifi, cable, elect., and water. Cafe close by, Aldi's a short walk to the south other places to eat and shop. All for $1 a foot.

Tour the west end of the Erie canal and many villages offer similar amenities that are for the most part, free.

We used the boat ramp to end our two week cruise from Lockport, NY.
Colby did a good job helping us and Ron the harbor master assisted us during a storm which was greatly appreciated.

Great stop at a scenic little marina, 2015-06-13
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2709)

There was nothing to complain about except one loose cleat near us. Great water pressure, clean showers, good laundry, friendly staff, convenient pump-out and an overall pretty atmosphere made this a great stop.

We enjoyed the Remington Arms museum, but there have not been any factory tours for some years now. The movies explain it all in detail, anyway.

Good stop, take care of necessities , 2015-06-02
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

Stopped to hook up to electric as we needed heat at night. Also empty garbage and wash dirt off boat from locks. Accomplished all those things. Clean safe place. Was raining so we did not go off the marina grounds. Good 50 amp electric and water pressure. Worth the $1/ft fee. Ice Cream/burger joint on premise, other restaurants and grocery nearby.

Great facility close to town, 2015-05-26
Captain: , New Castle, NH (70)

The facilities are well kept. As noted by others, there is a hamburger/ice cream shop next to the dock. About a quarter mile up the road is a supermarket. A little further is an Italian restuarant serving pizza's to veal. We enjoyed our meal as apparently did many locals that were there. Another quarter mile up the road is a Rite Aid, several other shops and the Remington Arms factory and museum.

Convenient grocery, 2015-05-22
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1120)

Aldi is one block away. Ice cream and burger joint is on premises.

One of the best marinas on the loop, 2014-09-19
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (370)

We came into this marina only because we could not safely use the free wall at Gems on the Mohawk. What a surprise! At first glance it does not look like much but they have every service you could possibly ask for including free cable TV! (I did not ask about a courtesy car) Courteous and helpful staff and good fuel price of $3.69 less .02 discount for volume. Bathrooms, shower and laundry all excellent.

Well Kept and Pleasant, 2014-08-27
Captain: , Brewerton, NY (489)

Easy access wall alongside the canal. Office closed up by 5 p.m. but Dockmaster was available by cell phone to provide shower and WiFi codes. 30 amp outlets were unlocked for after hours access, but 50 map boxes were padlocked, which could be problem for late arrival by larger vessels. On site hamburger stand convenient in a pinch, but servings were small and far from gourmet.

Well maintained and kept marina, 2014-08-21
Captain: , Calgary (281)

Very well maintained and clean marina. Washrooms clean. Laundry facilities on site. 30A power and water

What a neat, well kept marina!, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

To concur with previous reviewers, the grounds and facilities of this combination marina/RV park are very neat & clean. Snack bar on site with both soft serv and hand dipped ice cream as well as a good variety of sandwiches and snack foods. Gas prices on July 7, 2014 were gas $4.09 and diesel $3.91.

Free pump-out, Diesel 3.99 gal, 2014-06-30
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, Fl (410)

A great place to stop!!! Close to a market, restaurant, now has free pump-out even if you dont stay there. The onsite hamburger hut has the best hamburgers & hot dogs. Staff is excellent. The rate is $1.00 ft. includes electric. Weekly rate 34' & under $100.00/ 35' & over $125.00. Well worth the $1.00 foot.

Surprisingly a very nice stop, 2014-06-23
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

I was pleased the Admiral suggested this stop after doing a bunch of locks.
The laundry facility was good the marina / RV park was very clean and the staff also helpful.
Just be aware if you draft over 5'6" like us it gets a little skinny by Voss's and the fuel pumps. We had 1 foot under us and I called the last lock master who confirmed the depth would not lower and it didn't.
Would definitely stop again especially at $1 per foot. Plus good food right on site.

Marina is fine, but Voss Dogs rocks!, 2014-05-17
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

Clean simple marina. Tie-ups along the wall with both 30/50 amp power. Two washer/dryers. Rate was $1/ft including electric. Fuel and pumpouts available.

Short walk into town with an Aldi's and a HUGE well stocked Tru-Value hardware and a two pharmacies.

The reason to stop is Voss's Dogs and Burgers. New England style toasted bread rolls for the dogs. Shakes were real ice cream. Fries are crispy. Been here two days and picked up 15lbs so far.

Great stop, 2013-09-23
Captain: , Wicomico Church (610)

Great dockmaster, clean facilities; can walk to town

Remington plant tour closed , 2013-09-05
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3049)

Tour has been permanently cancelled. Museum is nice though and they have a nice film of all the manufacturing steps to make their product

Easy stop - very clean, 2013-07-26
Captain: , Freeport, ME (608)

Nice place for an overnight. Laundry was very clean, and all machines worked. Snack bar on site. Fuel (G & D ) available. Water & power at wall, but a really long cord from floating dock. No wake protection, but a speed limited area, so no big deal.

Trains every little while, but no whistles, and the rumble isn't hard to get used to - we slept right through.

It's nice place to stop..., 2013-07-25
Captain: , Castine, ME (59082)

The town wall indents here to form a small municipal marina. It's a nice place to tie up with adequate services. There were a lot of RV's staying in the parking lot which seemed a little unusual.

It's an easy place to pull into and leave the next day. They have a fantastic weekly price but I'm not sure I'd leave my boat there for a week unattended - the staff didn't seem like they knew much about boats to me.

well kept marina, right on the Erie, 2013-05-22
Captain: , Key Largo (5330)

50 and 30 amp, subjet to some wake, but canal speed is 5 mph here anyhwayz.
aldi's in town is just OK, not a restocking grocery store, and $1 a ft, no electric charge.

Good facility on the canal., 2013-05-19
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Convenient, easy in & out. Power good and water pressure very high. Very clean and well kept. Dockmaster Don does a good job. Town is close with most of your needs, Herkimer is 2 miles with giant WalMart and lots more shopping and restaurants. Price is very fair. On 5-9-12 Diesel was posted on the pump ar 4.33 and gas 4.43.
5-15-13 Another overnight Dockmaster Don very cordial and helpfull. $1 per foot, good power used 2 x 50 for 100 amp, high water pressure, easy in & out. Posted price for both gas & diesel was 3.99 on 5-15-13. Had diver available.

Safe and Easy Access, 2012-10-07
Captain: , Stoneledge, Cayuga Lake (60)

This was safe and easy to dock to their wall. They were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the cafe was closed for the season, but a short walk into town was Sorrento's a really good restaurant.

Great place to safely leave your boat, 2012-09-26
Captain: , Richmond, TX (87)

We stayed for a week, rented a car and drove to Finger Lakes and Adirondack Mts. The marina is inexpensive and safe with a harbormaster who cares about the facility. Great Italian restaurant within walking distance.

Good Fuel Stop, 2012-08-24
Captain: , Mimico Cruising Club ON Canada (1210)

High long wall, with widely spaced rings.

Friendly people, 2012-08-06
Captain: , Michigan City (349)

The little cafe was very accomodating and stayed open late so we could have dinner. The food was very good. Illion had little to offer except the Aldi store a block or so away.

remington factory, 2012-07-04
Captain: , holland, mi (132)

Arrived on the weekend before the 4th. Stayed extra day to tour Remington. Discovered plant would be closed the week of the 4th....disappointing. Nice wall and good facilities. Close to a Aldi's grocery.

Good stop if visiting Remington Arms Factory, 2012-07-01
Captain: , LeClaire, Iowa (449)

We stopped here June 26, 2012 because we wanted to tour the Remington Factory. Long wall with elecrictic, picnic tables, grill, and rvs parked across the lot. Cafe on site, we ate at the cafe uptown and got groceries at Aldi's a couple of blocks away. Unless you are wanting to tour the Remington factory using one of the free lock walls is probably your best bet. Factory tours are 10 am and 1 .pm. Good tour - they take you to the factory floor where all of the action is.

RV Park Setting, 2012-06-24
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (441)

OK stopover. The town seemed depressed when riding through on bicycle. Had interesting visit and bought some local produce at local Farmer's Market about 2 miles outside of town. Marina had friendly folks, water, diesel, pumpout, wifi, cable tv, restaurant and clean bathrooms/showers.

Doesn't get much better, 2012-06-21
Captain: , San Francisco (151)

Dockage, power, WIFI, Cable for $1/ft. Nice folks too.

Good Stop Over, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Savannah (128)

Very well manicured facility and campground. Dockmaster was helpful and got us tied up with little problems. There were still some obstructions coming into the dock, but you could see them easily and avoid any problems. The facilities are "campground", very clean and efficient. Fuel was $4.09 diesiel and $4.10 gas I think. Did not buy as I had just filled up at St. Johnsville. Groceries were close by. Dockage was $1.00/ft all inclusive.

Quiet and Clean, 2012-06-10
Captain: , santa barbara (696)

Stayed one night during transit to Great Lakes - arrived late, dockmaster drove from town to assist and get us set up. Very clean and well landscaped location. Restaurant on premises just opened, food was basic but good. Shopping and other restaurants nearby.

Some concern as to depth at the wall - we showed barely 5 feet when there late May 2012

Village of Ilion Marina, 2011-09-05
Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

Great little town. Dockmaster did not answer telephone, however he advised leave a message next time and he will return call. Restrooms were very nice and town was convenient.

Always a good stop, 2011-08-14
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

Good dock with power and water and internet.
Small restaurant on site. Laundry and bathrooms clean and nearby.
Train across the canal is a bit noisy, b ut that's Ilion.
Miss Joanie

Nice little town, 2011-07-22
Captain: , Galena, MD (1826)

High wall but elec and water convenient. Grounds, restrooms and laundry clean and well maintained.
Easy walk to town and groceries. Remington plant no longer offers tours but museum is open and worth the visit.

Always tie upwind of the Dockside Cafe's exhaust fan, 2011-06-19
Captain: , Groton, CT (284)

We didn't! After burgers, fries, and onion rings the gal in charge
brought us a comp. dessert (deep fried Oreo cookies). She really
takes care of the traveling boat people. The Aldi's supermarket
is a block away, the closest we have found yet. They let you take the shopping carts to the boat as long as you return them to the store. A great stop.

Rough wall but clean marina, 2011-06-03
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Very high wall which is very rough. Go in slowly and with lots of fenders. Once tied up, the marina is a nice place to watch other boats go by. Restaurant dock side. Price is right for 50 amp and nice to be off the river out of the traffic for a while. Grocery and restaurants close. Tour the Remington plant.

Ilion on the Wall, 2010-09-26
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

We have stayed at the Ilion Marina several times. Both east and west bound the past few years. We had to stay a week in June to get parts to repair our A/C. Don Sterling, the dockmaster, keeps the marina spotless. The restrooms are very clean and the laundry is good. The little restaurant on site is good and the folks running it want to please. The basic rate is $1.00 per foot per day. OR $75 per week whatever your length. Including electricity. Don gets a little miffed if you pay the weekly rate and don't at least several days. These towns want our business. There are great restaurants in town. A great Italian restaurant and a good breakfast place up town near the BOA. Ilion has one of the best local hardware stores we have ever seen. It rivals any big box store. If they don't have it you don't need it. Aldi's grocery store is a very short walk. The Remington Arms Factory is here and is a must tour. This is a great example of American industry as it was, still is here, and should be again. Plan your trip to stop here. It is well worth it.

Great stop, 2010-09-07
Captain: , Geneva, NY (70)

We have spent several nights here in the past two years, and find it to be a very clean, friendly, and convenient stop. Aldi Grocery is really close, and a bit farther walk south, an excellent (old-fashioned) hardware store. Sorrento's Italian restaurant always good. Dockmaster very helpful and friendly. Restrooms/showers/laundry facilities all very clean.

Your basic good marina, 2010-06-30
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

You'll be glad you're arriving by boat because half the parking lot has been given over to RV's. This is not all bad because it probably helps support a good marina on the Erie Canal. The wall is easy to approach and the facility is very well maintained.

The marina is very close to all services in the town and there is a market and several eating establishments close by. If you get there early enough or linger the next day you could take in a tour of the Remington Arms plant.

Nice and friendly place to stop, 2010-06-25
Captain: , Newport, RI (10275)

Still $1/foot with power, water, cable and fast internet. Showers are clean and the grounds are very nicely maintained. The cafe is still in operations and has a Friday night fish fry. Aldi grocery store is just up the street along with a liqour and drug store. Since it was Thursday we ate at Sorrento's again which was good food at a reasonable price.

This is the second time we have stayed there in 2 years and were happy to return.

Train noise is a bit loud but with the AC on and now having been listening to the trains since the Hudson it is not so bad.

Good Stop - Special DEAL, 2010-06-12
Captain: , Austin, Tx (1257)

Other comments right on. Nice clean stop. The 1,000+ factory workers at Remington help make the the town alive instead of withering
1600' of wall, normal price (includes 30/50amp power) is $1.00.
The Western end (angled side from 1475' to 1600' ) has a special rate for multiple days. $65/WEEK including power.

Illion, 2009-08-22
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

Great stop, water, 50 amp, good tie up, clean. $1/ft, Visit Remington Arms factory tour at 10am and 1pm. Mayor stopped to visit and ask if everything was ok.

Very attractive stop, 2009-08-11
Captain: , Stuart FL Middletown RI (240)

The Ilion Marina is in a beautifully-maintained town park/ RV campground. Ilion is a nice town with one or two OK restaurants. We regretfully did not go through the Remington Arms Museum -- the factory is immense. There is a simple restaurant in the Marina, and the restroom/shower facilities are fine. Railroad noise is slightly obtrusive, but that is an issue in many stops along the Erie Canal. A worthwhile stop.

Ilion, 2009-07-01
Captain: , Howard Prairie (500)

Nice marina but loud with the trains on the other side of the river.
Ilion has a great Italian restaraunt in town. Everyone loved the Remington factory.

Ilion Marina, 2009-06-30
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (274)

Friendly and convenient stop. $1.00/foot-- the same as many formerly free walls. Friendly folks, water and pumpout.

You gotta stop here, 2009-06-16
Captain: , Key West, FL (748)

This is a city run RV stop and marina that other municipalities should emulate: immaculately maintained grounds, picnic pavillion, nice little cafe, fuel and pump out. Small gardens maintained in memory of deceased citizens of the town. The place is filled with very friendly people who genuinely care about how your stay goes. At only a dollar a foot, it is well worth it, even though it is surrounded by free dockage. The mayor of Ilion even came by to make sure that we were being well cared for!

Great stop, 2008-06-21
