This is the place to stop and find every that is grande in life. Thanks for all you do. Lynn you, as you are the best ever. If you are in the area stop and be grande. Grande Stay at Grande Dunes

Rodent infested, staff was un-helpful and dismisive., 2016-10-24
Captain: , Oyster Bay (120)

Docked here for three nights, we immediatly noticed rodents droppings the morning after docking. Spent the day getting mouse traps trying to catch them. The following day we went to the office, the staff there was dimissive and did not offer any solutions.
This is one of the most expensive marina in the area, definitely not what i was expecting.
There is also lots of debris floating in our docking area, which again i was told was cleaned up over the weekend (we are now monday).

Finally there are no lights coming into the second entrance, which makes a night arrival very dangerous.
Avoid if you can.

Very helpful staff, 2016-06-29
Captain: , Havre De Grace MD (130)

We were planning to stop at the Barefoot marina but couldn't make it there by the time they closed. Instead we stopped here for the evening. While the staff was already gone, we were able to tie up to the long t-head and call them with all of our info. They made it very convenient and easy for us!

Good but not great., 2016-04-28
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (955)

The Marina at Grande Dunes is very nice. You are in a well protected basin right off the ICW. Having a Ruth's Chris steak house right there is a plus, but unless that's what you're in the mood (and budget) for, your options for dning are somewhat limited. The bath facilities are clean and quite nice. The dock staff is friendly and somewhat helpful with securing lines, etc, but I had to reconfigure lines once we were stopped. A good place for a night.

Convenient stopping place, 2016-04-10
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (280)

Stopped here for one night on 4/7. Staff was very helpful in assisting us in getting tied up that afternoon and getting underway the next morning. Punp out was free. Typical bar food at the Anchor Cafe was good and the drinks were generous and fairly priced. Clean showers and restrooms and Lowes Foods is a short walk away. No issues here.

Not alot going on here ---, 2015-10-26
Captain: , Mystic CT (130)

Remote and not much in the way of nearby attraction. Convenient to a Grocery Store. Local Thai restaurant should be avoided.

Good not our favorite, 2015-06-14
Captain: , St Louis (897)

We came in after a long hot, Saturday southbound on the ICW. The dockhands here are excellent, because our approach to the slip was ugly--they really went the extra mile. However, in retrospect we should have requested a face dock for our 18 ft beam catamaran (the wicked current swirls on the North end; pushed up against the dock and we couldn't back away). The bathrooms were nice--semi-private but not the cleanest we've seen. However, it was a meat locker in there, so that was nice!

Only restaurants at the marina are a Ruth Chris (expensive) and the Cafe (good but not air conditioned and we needed it). There is supposed to be a restaurant in the hotel but we were drenched rats so we didn't investigate.

We paid $1.75 Boat US rate. Excellent wifi. (PS they are some of the people renting jet skis and pontoon boats)

EDIT: We had the same swirling current trying to depart the dock. Tried to spin us sideways departing the slip. Be aware of 90 degree turn into slips on North side.

Good stop Southbound after the rockpile, 2014-11-09
Captain: , Marblehead (147)

Excellent place to stop after successfully negotiating the rockpile section. The staff is curteous, helpful and professional. CVS and grocery is within walking distance, but staff offered to take us there. WiFi shows up as not protected, but the name given by the marina is really the user name and you have to enter the password. Walk North to cross highway to get to shopping plaza if you decide to walk.

Stayed during Hurricane Arthur 2014, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (706)

Mostly fishing boats, but very accommodating to the three sailboats that were in the marina. Anchor Cafe had great food and TVs to watch sports. Nice bathroom/shower faciilties with air-conditioning. For sailboats, you will probably be told to come in the south entrance, but call ahead for instructions to be sure.

Grand Dunes Marina, 2014-04-12
Captain: , new bern (317)

We have been here several times. This is a friendly place and very easy in and out. We were met at the dock by capable staff and assisted in tying up. The bathrooms are nice and clean!!!
We had dinner in the hotel at Waterscapes Rest. It is expensive but the food was terrific!!! Gourmet all the way!

Halfway point, Georgetown to Southport, 2014-04-02
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (370)

Stay here because it is convenient and well equipped. Nothing special, but evefything is well-maintained and functional. As noted, there is a Ruth's Chris on-site and a grocery store across the highway. Easy access to ICW.

High Quality Facilities, 2013-11-30
Captain: , Wiscasset, Maine (280)

Felt like a ghost town when we were there. Had to cross very wide highway to get to
grocery store, excellent place to "air" your dog.

Marina @ Grande Dunes, 2013-10-24
Captain: , Sandwich (692)

Easy access marina on ICW with protected docks making docking easy. Bath/showers clean. On site outdoor sports bar/grille directly on the ICW along with Ruth%u2019s Chris and hotel restaurant. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool with hot tub. Hot tub a real nice evening treat. A pleasant overnight stay.

Overnight stay, 2013-10-07
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (334)

We stayed one night when we wouldn't be able to make it to the next marina or anchorage before dark (10/6/2013). Well kept, with floating docks with large slips and a long dock for larger vessels. Very quiet, except for some traffic noise until traffic on the adjacent street dies down at night. Excellent showers and laundry. Great access to the shopping center across the street.

Be Careful, Diver recommended by Marina is overcharging, 2013-07-01
Captain: , Halifax Marina Daytona Beach (300)

The Marina is well maintained but the Hotel and Grand Dunes Golf Course has separate owners now, so we couldn't make any arrangements for the golf course which we tried in several emails ahead of time. We drove aground 5nm before the Marina. When we got there, they recommended to us FST Dive Services, which they said is the best and cheapest around. That said, we trusted the Marina and called the FST Dive Services, owner Mr. Brandon Toms. In the end we paid $704 for the removal and installation of 22inches in diameter props! We felt way overcharged, Mr Brandon Toms explanation for the steep price was the cloudy water and so we checked around other Divers, which were way less expensive, actually around $250-$350 for the same job.
We will take this further and contact Boat US and of course the BBB in Myrtle Beach.
I hope you all learn from this and always ask ahead of time.

Exceptionally helpful, 2013-06-28
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (631)

This was our home port for 5 years. We returned for a visit this summer and found that Matt and the rest of the staff have continued to uphold very high standards. The marina is next to a large resort complex and the shopping center across the street has a great grocery store, CVS, and Thai restaurant. The staff are happy to take their van to the grocery store and assist with getting stuff down to the boat. This makes Grande Dunes an excellent re-supply stop in addition to a great stopover.

Good business practices, 2013-06-08
Captain: , New Bern (318)

I pulled in with the intention of leaving the boat for a month over the holidays. However, after doing an oil change and turning the engine over, my shaft seal sprung a leak. Had to get hauled out at Hague Marina 10mi south. Long story short, even though I spent one night there, they gave me a full refund for the month I had already paid for.

Has it All/Great Value!, 2013-04-29
Captain: , Kinsale (130)

Quiet spot away from Myrtle Beach but with a good tiki bar/grill and restaurant and an easy walk accross the highway to a good grocery store, drug store, pizza place, etc. We had access to free newspapers, indoor and outdoor heated pools, workout room with sauna, and a large outdoor hot tub at the Marriott Hotel on site. This was a true resort without resort prices. We stayed an extra day and would've loved to have stayed a month!

I had a GREAT experience here-, 2013-04-25
Captain: , San Rafael (387)

The staff was super helpful as I was passing though on a delivery of sorts. Great provisioning right across the street, free bottle of wine from the marina, dinner special at the Ruth%u2019s Chris which sits on the marina. I couldn%u2019t be happier, unless maybe I had a little more than the one night I was able to spend there. The manager of the Ruth%u2019s Chris has a boat in the marina so be sure to say hello.

Excellent Customer Service and Accommodations, 2013-04-19
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

We decided to try this marina based on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area and we are glad we did. The dockmaster was exceptional, providing superb customer service and assistance getting in, getting fuel and transporting us where we needed to go. The marina is on the site of a well maintained hotel and condo complex which has standard hotel restaurants and there is also a Ruths Chris on site. We rented a car for a few days, made a Costco run and explored the numerous things to see and do around the area. There are security gates on all docks which is nice. We would highly recommend this marina.

excellent service and facilities, 2012-12-10
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

staff was exceptional here, as were the facilities. place felt almost new. showers could have been a little cleaner, but that's nitpicking. good restaurants (ruth's chris) almost on the premises, and groceries and pharmacy within a short walk.

Amazing staff!, 2012-12-03
Captain: , Tracys Landing, Maryland (350)

We got our bottle of wine, AND amazing service from the staff. They drove us all over Myrtle Beach so we could experience a few of the sights. They were very responsive and helpful, and we had a wonderful time during our stay. Thank you, Matt!

Great Place, 2012-11-19
Captain: , Fort Pierce Florida (300)

Based on the other reviews here we stopped on our way south and we couldn't be happier. The place is great and the staff is incredibly helpful and nice.

Very nice protected marina, 2012-10-31
Captain: , Morehead City (390)

We don't stop at many marinas for the night but their fuel was as cheap as any and we got a free night by purchasing over 400 gallons.

Very protected and easy docking. Good restaurants but pricey.

Grand Dunes, 2012-10-07
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

What a nice surprise! The folks here are wonderful and great floating docks. And you're welcomed with a bottle of wine...They have a van if you need to go shopping.
Ruth's Chris is right at the dock and less formal Anchor Cafe at the end of dock.

Beautiful marina worth the extra $, 2012-08-06
Captain: , Stuart, FL (167)

Easy in and out of this well-protected harbor. Bikes are a necessity to go to beach and grocery. Very modern and well-kept, with a pump-out boat for convenience.

Great Stop, 2012-06-10
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

Mid way through the "rock pile" this place shows up. Very large, well protected marina with lots of face docks and nice staff. Easy in and out with dinner at Ruth's Chris that was right there. Bottle of wine as a welcome gift was also well received. Great break in between Georgetown and Southport in Myrtle Beach.

Marina at Grand Dunes is a must stop!, 2012-05-31
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (111)

We have visited the Marina at Grand Dunes a few times now and Jason, Matt & Doug do a fantastic job both running the marina as well as making you feel welcome. Their customer service skills are top knotch and the facilities match it. Keep up the great work guys and we'll be back next time through! s/v Dharma

nice place - Hiding from Beryl..., 2012-05-26
Captain: , Padanaram, MA (259)

Kids have been swimming at the pool at the Marina Hotel. They are no longer owned by the same company, but it seems that the hotel doesn't mind. Very friendly folks here.

Marina at Grande Dunes, 2012-05-06
Captain: , Baltimore, Maryland (330)

Would highly recommend this marina. Great protection and out of the current. Great staff and easy access to a supermarket and drugstore.

Great place for a Steal, 2012-04-24
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1328)

Nice floating docks. The face dock in the South basin is much more protected from ICW wakes than the North basin. A bit pricy but they now give 25 cent discount for BUS, which makes the rate (1.75/ft including the discount) tolerable. Good shopping within easy walk: Lowes grocery and CVS). Restaurant on site.(we did not try) plus Ruth Chris Steak house (which we like).

Clean and Private, 2012-03-26
Captain: , SeaScape Marina (310)

Great food, private setting, very clean facility. Can't go wrong stopping there.

Pricey but nice., 2012-03-12
Captain: , redondo Beach, CA (252)

I love that it's really close to some stores, and theres a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse at the marina. The wife will love it!

Finest Marina in SC, 2012-01-26
Captain: , Wrightsville, NC (270)

This has to be the finest marina in the Carolinas. All amenities are first class and we were treated likely royalty as transients. Be sure to visit the cafe located on the waterway. Plenty of dockage to just stop in for a meal.

Second to none, 2012-01-23
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

The amenities at Grande Dunes are some of the finest I've seen in the Carolinas. Pool, Tiki Bar, Intracoastal bar, jet ski rentals, well-protected harbor, Ruth's Chris, fantastic staff and marina ship store all at your fingertips. In addition to being the only Marina in the downtown Myrtle area it is a great stop for travelers heading north wanting to avoid traversing the Rock Pile at night. If there is a complaint about Grande Dunes it would only be that the Harbor basin is set down below grade so in the summer you do not get a breeze when sitting in the harbor. When its high 90's in the summer, you'll notice.

Doesn't get much better than this., 2011-12-07
Captain: , Red Lion, DE (712)

2011-12-7 This is our 2nd stay here. All of the other rave reviews are right on the money. Speaking of money, my tip was also refused. Dockmaster made arrangements for a rental car. On our 1st stop here we were driven to the supermarket across the highway and returned. Staff also made the reservation for us at Ruth Chris's Steak house. On both stops we have been given a bottle of wine - have had that happen at only one other marina. This will be a regular stop for us in the future.

A most pleasant stop with a Five Star restaurant, 2011-11-09
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (1288)

From start to finish, our two-day stop at the Marina at Grande Dunes was top flight. Reservations were easy to make, and the reservations taker was able to tell us right where we'd be berthed--with good, easy-to-understand instructions. We were met on arrival by an experienced dockhand there to take lines, and he knew what to do with them. He even flemished them in coils on the pier for us--and then refused a tip. (How often does THAT happen?)

Little to add to what others have said about the facilities: plenty of room for maneuvering, good deep water, nice floating docks in excellent repair, good security with controlled access, solid 240V electric (though a bit pricey at $12/50 amps).

They were willing to negotiate a couple of nights of free dockage if we took on fuel, but even with that we found we'd save money by refueling elsewhere and paying the dockage. Check-in was quick, easy and professional, and included a free welcome bottle of wine.

Easy walk (10 minutes) across the highway to a CVS pharmacy and big Lowes food store.

I saved the best for last: Waterscapes Restaurant, which is less than a five-minute walk from the transient dockage. It's located right on-site in the Marina Inn, and it's where we had the best meal of our trip since leaving Maine--true five star dining with superb fresh local fish and produce (great beef too), friendly caring service, all in a splendid, elegant setting with a 20% discount from the menu prices for marina guests--a total bill of less than we'd have paid at the nearby Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. No connection with the restaurant than as satisfied customers, but DON'T MISS WATERSCAPES! Further info at: http://www.marinainnatgrandedunes.com/dining/din_waterscapes.aspx

Good protection from ICW wake action., 2011-07-04
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

Well, first the positives. As the title proclaims this marina consists of two separate protected coves which give excellent relief from the constant wake action from passing boats on the ICW. The staff is friendly and we even received a free bottle of wine @ check in. Bath rooms are clean and air conditioned as were the shower facilities. There is also a free shuttle that will take you to their private beach every eight minutes. The Anchor Café which is on site was very good.

Now the negatives. Upon pulling into the marina we were assigned a slip on E dock and had our choice. We had a brisk SE wind (10-20 knts). Finding it difficult to maneuver into a 15%u2019 slip w/ my 13.5%u2019 beam I decided to pull clear and get some dockside assistance prior to making a second attempt. I had to radio twice to get someone to respond and that was after making initial contact on my approach to the facility. In their defense, it was the Fourth of July weekend and they were kind enough to supply us with a 50amp splitter. We would stay here again.

Great stop, 2011-05-31
Captain: , Charleston (11)

Great location with fuel, Ruth Chris, and Anchor Bar and pool. They helped us with fuel and good dockage for a one night stay. We didn't need the Grocery/Drugstore but could be very convenient. Would come again anytime.

was better last year, 2011-04-09
Captain: , Wilmington Deleware (330)

We stayed at this marina December 2009 when Todd Merritt was the dock master and thought it was fantastic. Sadly things don't always stay the same, Todd is no longer there and the marina was not the wonderful experience this Novemeber when we stopped. There seem to be a bunch of young kids running the show and they just don't have the flair Todd added to the stay. Of course Ruth Chris is still at the end of the dock and there is a great grocery store right across the street. It is a bit expensive and without the special treatment, not really worth the stop.
We stopped 4/11 and had an even worse experience. Called ahead by cell to reserve a slip, then hailed on the radio. Had no help with lines and docking. Unless we are caught in a storm we will not stop hre again.

Incredible facilities..., 2011-03-29
Captain: , Castine, ME (59084)

We stayed at Grande Dunes for a month over the Winter working on ActiveCaptain and dealing with a variety of extended family issues. The docks, facilities, and protection here are out-of-this world great. Everything is first class - concrete docks, power, security system, etc. We worked out every other morning at the exercise room available and even treated ourselves to Ruth's Chris one night (Happy Valentine's day, Karen!). There is a very nice grocery store across the street with a couple of other stores and restaurants.

There is a very large dog park at the YMCA facility about 2 miles away. It's a long walk but you can get there on protected roads away from the main highway.

Most of Myrtle Beach is a too far away to walk. This facility would become an instant 5-star place if they had a couple of courtesy cars that could be used to travel into town.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The dogs had a good time. I'd definitely go back.

Protected marina with great staff, 2010-11-16
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (87)

Nice protected marina with excellent and helpful staff. Matt fueled me and gave me a great t-head spot away from the fuel dock. He rode over on the swim platform and then promptly tied me up. Free bottle of wine as mentioned. Gas price was $3.05/gal and best price seen in past few hundred miles at the time. There is a CVS drugstore and specialty grocery across the highway (cross carefully). Laundry had 2 washers and 2 dryers both priced at just $1. Ironing board as well. I'd give this 5 stars if the bathrooms/showers were a little cleaner and in better condition. (Toilet seat was loose, no place to put soap in shower, floors outside shower a little dirty.) Now this is far better than many marinas, and I have often found transients aren't always nice to the bathrooms they visit, so it can be tough for a marina to combat that. The Ruth's Chris deal they offer is a good deal. Cab to Broadway on the Boardwalk (massive entertainment complex) was 10-15 minutes and $18 each way. If you are going to go there anyway then you can eat at any of the many restaurants there. Airport is about 15 minutes away and $30 one way if you have anyone traveling out or in. Overall, very nice experience. This marina is far enough down the ICW in Myrtle Beach that you are passed many of the no wake zones and the "rock pile" so when you start out the next day, you are done with the Myrtle Beach section of the ICW fairly quickly.

Best Value Northbound ICW this Year!, 2010-11-06
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Update: 11/6/10 Still $1.75 (with BoatUS card), but electric is $12 and you still get the wine. You also get a discount coupon for Ruths Chris which is on the premises.
5/17/10 $1.75/ft including 50amp electric!!! And free wine. Previous review comments are valid. There's also a "pet" alligator! Excellent facility - no current, no wakes, very protected. Staff is not only helpful, but interested in doing a good job. We'll stop here again.

Great staff, 2010-11-06
Captain: , Lansdale, PA (330)

The staff did a great job at the dock and in the office. Free bottle of wine was a nice surprise. The docks are in excellent condition and the surroundings are pretty. We took a cab to Myrtle Beach, but it was expensive - next time we would take advantage of the discount at Ruth's Chris, right at the marina.

Best place to stay in Myrtle Beach, 2010-05-16
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

What a find. Usually stay at Barefoot Landing - but why. The facilities are first class and the Boat US discount and the free bottle of wine make it competitive with all the rest. Long face dock behind a high sea wall eliminate passing wakes and even some wind.

The staff couldn't do enough. Great supermarket (Lowes) located across the street but didn't have to walk because, without asking, the Harbor Master drove us over there.

There is a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on premises but forget that and eat at Water Sides (20% discount for marina guests.) A great three course meal for $38 and the food is gourmet. I would go out of my way to dine here again.

We look forward to a return visit to this marina!

Nice Place., 2010-05-11
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

We stopped here because there was no room at Barefoot Landing, which is our usual stop. We would stop here again. The marina is located in a basin so is protected from wakes and there is little current. Great staff. Nice area to walk pets. The Boat US discount brought the transient rate down to $1.75, which included electric and a nice bottle of wine. Food at the Cafe was reasonable. The only thing I missed about Barefoot Landing was the variety of eating establishment to choose from.

Month long stay, 2009-08-15
Captain: , Port St Lucie (514)

We've been here for a week and it is superb. Floating docks, professional friendly staff, extremely clean and well-maintained facilities throughout. Showers and laundry ($1) are superb. Lots of great spots in the area. All this for $13/ft per month in Auigust. Also Boat US discount applies to daily rate of $2/ft. Anchor restaurant has a great view and good food although drinks are pricy. We'll stop here any time we can in the future.
