Reviews for The Marina at American Wharf
After season stay, 2016-09-18

It's always a pleasure to stay at America's Wharf with its cement floating docks and manicured grounds. While starting to show its age, the property is always clean and well maintained. I was a little disappointed with the reduced services available 2 weeks after Labor day, but it was reflected in the price. Apparently, right after Labor Day the pool is closed, casino shuttle stops at 6:00pm and the restaurant, which closed on the 18th, was only serving a very limited menu of their leftover supplies. While I understand the business logic for the above, I was disappointed that I was not made aware of it at the time of booking. The marina closes for the season on October 15.

Very Nice Oasis, 2016-08-16

Amazing facility for the price! 20% discount at the restaurant for transients.

Great Marina & Casino, 2015-10-27

Very professional team @ marina, watch out for a guy in green kayak he likes to stay in middle of channel and video any boat that causes him a wake. Even though he should not be in the channel They should be by shore. He likes to call the police or conservation department.

Awesome Marina, 2015-01-20

Been going once a year for the past 3 years and plan on going again in 2015. The service is first class and Mike the GM
knows how to treat a transient boater. The locals are friendly and every year they remember us and offer is drinks and food and invite us to their parties. Love this place!

Wonderful Marina, and the Casinos too, 2014-08-05

Back again in 2014!
Not much to add to last two times. If you are looking for a clean, well managed marina, witha pool (unheated!), this is your place. Bargain at $2.50/ft + electric.

Back again in 2013- Resaurant seens to have cut back their menu but still good food. If you want to talk eat outside, the band is VERY loud. Food good, service excellent. Marina is well run, very clean, one of the best stops on this part of the Sound. There is no speed limit on the river except around the sub base and at the end, so you can make good time getting here.
Free shuttle bus on request to and from the Casino. Casino view from the river is worth the trip in itself.

Returned again in July 2012 and found it better than ever. Restaurant was in full swing, good food ranging from burgers, to shellfish, to salmon and other varied entrees. Full bar. Staff was very accomodating, Mike the marina manager went out of his way to be helpful, including driving the free van to Mohegan Sun casino. Pool was cool but very nice, clean laundry facilities and very clean showers. Beautiful ride up the river and well worth the trip.

It is a shame there isn't a six star rating!

Town of Norwich is a typical working New England town, old, but clean, trying to recover.

Wonderfully run marina, excellent staff and management. Restaurant right on the dock, a free shuttle to either Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods casinos. Like new concrete floating docks, very quiet and protected.

Kudos to Mike (marina manager) and Arthur (restaraunt manager) for makeing our recent trip exceptional. Have a yearly "buddies" trip that had four of us with two days of tee times and one night at the casino. The facilities are top notch and the staff was more than accomodating in shuttleing us to our activities. Nicest suprise was on the first night when we looking for a local steak house, they actually brought in some prime steaks from a sister restaurant and set us up at the bar to eat and watch the NBA finals...could not have asked for anything more, have already recommended this to friends and will not hesitate to come back.

First class marina and great for rendezvous, 2011-12-23

This is a first rate marina. It is worth the trip up the river. You can choose to either just enjoy the first rate facilities or take the van to the casino. I am happy just visiting American Wharf but the casinos are so close it is tough not to go.

Easy trip to Casino's, 2011-01-26

Easy trip up the river. Very interesting, especially passing Groton and Electric Boat. Good chance of seeing subs coming/going. Trip up/down the river is very scenice. Stay in the channel and you'll be fine. Marina has new concrete docks. Great condition. Marina staff very nice. Restuarant was good. Pool is good for kids. Otehrwise, only reason to go is for the casino's, which are certainly accessible from here.

The location and staff were outstanding. they shuttled us to the norwich inn/spa. The manager was really great, really cared about his marina and customer experience. I loved travelling up the river to discover this spot. the restaurant had excellent food and was reasonably priced.

Great spot for a different kind of trip, 2010-06-29

Going up the Thames River is a beautiful and placid trip. The Amtrak bridge in New London Harbor is on VHF13 and will gladly open for you. You pass the submarine base and lots of interesting derelict factories and docks on your way to Norwich.

The marina is first rate, wonderful staff, nice pool and great shower/bathrooms. Their is a shuttle to either Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods casinos, we had excellent meals each night. The restaurant/bar there is quite good and does a fair business.

The town of Norwich is like a mini-San Francisco; very cute, completely restored and historical - but it looks like a Stephen King apocalypse movie set since it is probably 90% vacant. There is a Greek-style coffee shop, a pub, the superior court and two law offices, and... that's it. This town should be viewed by any city thinking of buying into a big redevelopment bond project.

We love it there! The motorcycles do ride nearby in the summer but it all eventually quiets down and we always have a placid night in the slip
