Reviews for Thames View Marina - Military Only, MWR
New London Submarine Base, 2015-07-17
Captain: , Florida Keys (734)

7/15/2015 Great floating docks, good electric. Water was off the night we were there. Pump-out not working.

The commissary/NEX is about 1 1/4mi. Couple of hills made a loaded wagon interesting. A busy golf course with snack bar is closer.

The manager here is pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Call ahead to check on transient availability. You must clear in and out with naval marine security, who do ID checks.

The area is interesting, with the road names on base named for lost submarines, with the number of deaths, and the date on each sign. Lots of historic notes, old torpedoes, a Japanese mini training sub.

The huge area is paved, with the only close spot to take the dog was a bramble area on the hillside. We were told to watch for hornets there.

Wonderful base, yea USN, 2013-08-31
Captain: , Portsmouth, VA (430)

Had all anyone could want, floating docks, water, electric, washer/dryer, bicycle nearby commissary and exchange; movie theatre. Colors at 0800 as they should be; evening colors at sun set, fills the heart.

Active or retired military transients welcomed, 2012-08-19
Captain: , Galesville, MD (246)

Staff was very happy to have us spend a few nights in the marina. For cruisers transiting Long Island Sound, it provided a good opportunity for dockage at well below going rates. Marina is remote from base facilities, but marina staff drove us to and from commissary and exchange. Wakes from passing boats were a nuisance.

Very Helpful Captains!!, 2012-06-11
Captain: , Deep River, CT (10)

Not a lot of amenities, but you can't find a greater bunch of sea faring folk. Very knowledgeable and friendly! Military Only.

Not for the general public, 2010-06-29
Captain: , Norwich, CT (24)

This marina is on the grounds of the U.S. Navy sub base and is not open to the general public. It is also a strictly enforced no-wake zone and those passing the marina and adjacent submarine base should keep a sharp lookout for the two Navy police boats that patrol here 24/7. If there are vessels moving in or out of the sub base, boats transiting the river are usually stopped. Notice of temporary river closure at the sub base is given by Coast Guard Station New London on VHF-16.
