Reviews for Telemar Bay Marina
Good stop-over, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Kemah (60)

In spite of some of the bad reviews, we pulled in here as the other marinas in the area were full. We were welcomed by friendly dock neighbors that helped with the lines. Docks are fine, fixed is not a problem with minmal tide range here. Only negative is what they charge for electricity: we need 50 amp and they charge $17.50. Outrageous! Great place to ride out a storm.

Best Fuel Price ever, 2016-04-07
Captain: , Woodstock, Georgia (359)

We stayed here on March 27, 2016. Not a bad place to stay for one night. For me, the really gereat thing was the Fuel prices. We got diesel for $1.85 per gallon.

Price went up, services didn't, 2016-01-21
Captain: , Key Largo (5304)

I paid cash, $1.75 foot in 2010, nice inespensive sports bar, Doubles, just a few blocks away, protected, fixed docks.

I feel like I have been robbed, 2015-12-07
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl. (71)

In November 2015, on a Saturday, I hit an underwater object in the Indian River, near Melbourne Fl. I limped into Telemar Marina, that was the only marina within 30 miles that could lift me, and arranged for a haulout on the following Monday. I was verbally given haulout and storage rates but no written literature. The employees were helpful, friendly and apologetic for the high cost. The marina seemed under staffed so I chose a local contractor to survey and repair the damage. Telemar charges $75 a day for an outside contractor and $90 a day for dry storage while the boat is being repaired. I cannot tell the whole story because I do not want to get the employees fired but one of the two restroom/showers has the shower head and water controls removed so they can't be used. ALL of the slip holders and liveaboards that I encountered hated the marina's owner. Please use this place as a last resort. Worst marina situation I have ever been in. This is a shame because it could be an excellent facility if the owner cared.

Do Not Stay Here: The owner is a thief, 2015-11-24
Captain: , Washington, DC (63)

Have stayed here twice, in spite of the terrible reviews of how badly the owner, Nick, treats boaters. He also owns a hotel in the area and uses his corporate lawyers to screw people around. He kept my deposit even though I gave him more than thirty days notice I had given him, as required. But when I changed the date verbally with the person who runs the marina, he refused to honor the change and kept my depost!! Check with anyone in the area: this is NOT a marina you want to stay in.

Horrible owner- DON'T give them your business!!!!!, 2015-08-12
Captain: , Melbourne FL (30)

Absolutely horrible owner to deal with. Well earned bad reputation in the local area among boaters and service vendors. He was very disagreeable in changing prices and rules for yard work previously quoted by his yard manager (who subsequently left employment there- no surprise). Had my boat docked here for 6 months while it was listed for sale. They knew that it could sell at any time, so they asked for 30 days notice to get a refund of deposit. Just got an offer on the 4th of February, set to close in 20 days. I let them know immediately and their response was that since the notice was not received by the first of the month, then I was out of luck and they wouldn't repay my $435.13 security deposit. Would not even let me pro-rate 4 days dockage out of that and refund the rest of the month. I had to pay an extra month (March) while the boat sale closed and have that factored in the purchase. Even doing that, the Marina has not refunded my deposit. DON'T give them your business.

This is an addition / edit to the above review:
I see that another marina user had a similar no-refund of their deposit during a similar time as us. This is obviously a recurring problem with the marina. I have demanded the refund of my deposit and provided proof that we paid in full through the end of March and provided more than 30 days notice of our departure. We never have received any explanation as to why our deposit was withheld other than that they didn't like my (truthful) review on this forum. We obeyed all marina rules while our boat was there. We caused no damage, used no restroom facilities, and never slept overnight on our boat. Like the other recent reviewer, we intend to seek the refund of our deposit through Boat US and small claims court if necessary. At this point it is an ethical matter as well as financial. I encourage ALL readers to AVOID doing business with this marina.

Did not return our deposit, 2015-07-06
Captain: , Jacksonville Beach (30)

My wife and I rented a month to month slip for our boat at Telemar Bay Marina for 3 months during the period of November, December 2014 and January 2015. I had communicated with the manager Karen of Telemar Bay Marina many times by email and phone before we arrived indicating to her what we were looking for during our 3 month stay and she explained their rules and we were told that if we did not stay on the boat more than three days at a time we would not be considered live-aboards and would NOT be charged the additional fees. The Marina was very willing to rent us a slip for month to month and required a deposit.

We returned to the boat 3 or 4 times and never stayed over the 3 day limit. We always followed all the rules of the Marina even though the staff changed them verbally each time we came to check on our boat and stay overnight. We were never given written rules. We always checked in at the office each time we arrived to stay overnight. We were told that the owner was watching all activities at the marina by camera and from his condo across the street from the Marina. We were fully aware that we were being watched and had no issue with that as we were following all the rules that we were given.

We checked out with the Marina manager Karen on our departure and was told everything was good and they would mail us our deposit.

After we left in January 2015 we called numerous times inquiring about our deposit. We were told over and over it would be returned soon, or our deposit refund was in the mail.

After more than 3 months and many phone calls, we were told that they were keeping our deposit because we were LIVE-ABOARDS. The reason they determined we were live-aboards was because THEY gave us a bathroom key when we first arrived. This was not the case because when we left after setting up the boat at the marina and then we returned we checked in at the office and they took the bathroom keys back. When I contacted the marina before we arrived I was told we could use the bathroom during business hours. Later that changed and we were told we should use the head on our boat, and that the bathrooms were for live-aboards or transients only. I guess this is why we witnessed several people UNIRATING 0ff the docks. They seem to change the rules to suit their needs, and in this case a reason to keep our deposit. The Marina will no longer answer our phone calls (caller ID).

Since leaving I have read other bad reviews about Telemar Bay, so we are not the only people that the Marina treated this way. We will be headed South again next year and we will avoid Telemar Bay Marina. There are plenty of other marinas in the area. My advice is to avoid this dishonest business.

We did try resolving this issue with the Marina about not returning our $460 deposit in many different ways including the Better Business Bureau and the Marina would not respond. This is one of the reasons they have a D+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We are also working with Boat US regarding this matter and plan on taking this issue to small claims court. At this point it is on principle and protecting other boaters from being taken advantage of. We plan on continuing our warnings to others and in many different ways and until our deposit is returned.

Thank you.

Poor Value and Service, 2014-12-03
Captain: , Key Largo (122)

Not transient-friendly. $35 utility fee, plus pay for wi-fi. No offer to help with power or water connections. Might need 100' of hose to reach water hydrant. Quiet and sheltered. Better places elsewhere.

limited protection from north wind, 2014-11-19
Captain: , Greenville SC (250)

Bouncy conditions in strong north winds. Good access to shopping.

Review of South Sails, 2014-11-18
Captain: , Sneads Ferry, NC (351)

Mac at South Sails made us a custom set of sails for just a tad more than overseas off-the-shelf sails. The care he took in talking with us about our choices and the compromises involved (size, cloth, features, etc.) translated into a perfect set of sails for us. If you prefer to give your business to an American craftsman instead of an Asian sweat shop, call Mac. Heck, he even took us sailing to show how to get the most from the sails! I gave a 3 star rating so as to not skew the ratings for Telemar Marina. South Sails gets an easy 5 -Star rating from us!

Decent marina, 2014-11-13
Captain: , Eugene OR (133)

This marina is ok. A little expensive for what you get. You have to pay for your internet.

Could be a real nice marina, but..., 2014-10-25
Captain: , Sanford, FL (39)

Nice location and overall well kept marina. Well sheltered. Rented a slip here for a month, but little things made this not suitable for the long term for us. For instance, when checking in I was told we needed to use our own "facilities" on board as they did not give shower/head keys to renters. Also no trash cans on docks (I found 2 in the entire place). Very expensive power wash on haul out @ $5/ft. Fuel price is high and the total on the pump is not the total you pay.

under new management , 2014-09-24
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (476)

Jeff and Cathy(?) we're very accommodating. Jeff explained that the owner really cared about boater's experiences so a change in management was in order.
Stayed night, fueled, pumped
Showers and wifi were just OK.
Great eats (Doubles, the best burger!) and convenience store nearby.
Very EZ and protected fuel dock.

Poor facilities good location, 2014-07-13
Captain: , Fort Pierce (72)

The location is great and quiet but there is only one sweaty shower for transients! The staff was really helpful but the facilities put this in the 3 star range. Has a geat hurricane reputation I was told by the staff.

Nice place to rest, 2014-07-02
Captain: , Perry, Kansas (317)

This was our third stop here. Friendly staff, clean facilities and short walk to restaurants/shopping. Next to a swing bridge that can disturb you if you are sensitive to such things, not much traffic though. Many manatee and dolphins to watch.

Nice harbor folks., 2014-03-25
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

(3/25/2014) Marina manager and dock master very helpful while coming in and ensuring we were well secure. Everything one might need is within a mile or so. Real laid back marina, not many people here using their boats, so very quiet. First mate is enjoying the scenery provided by the international kayak, kneel board and rowing school training sessions twice a day. Saw one manatee and many dolphin feeding nearby.

Emergency repair, 2014-03-13
Captain: , Stoney Creek, MD (10)

Kevin and Karen were helpful and pleasant to work with and the financials of the repair were fair. Kevin graciously arranged for us to store our just provisioned freeze/refrigerator FULL of food. This is the only marina for at least 25 miles with a heavy duty, (40T), lift. Tim is a very good lift operator and Willie the skilled yard worker is friendly and energetic. The restrooms are clean and modern. Bear in mind this is a closed yard so if you are hauled, you cannot be on your boat. Their mechanic, Tom, will do the work. He and his Dad ran the former, well known repair facility prior to the current owner buying the marina and ending the in-house repair shops and ships store. Tom is experienced and clearly knows his way around boats. Kevin's plan is to increase the repair and maintenance aspect of the yard. Check him and the yard out if you are in the area. The published transient rate seems in line with others in the area.

Friendly, efficient, quality work, 2013-11-12
Captain: , Port Canaveral Yacht Club (107)

Had our boat hauled, a bottom job and some prop work performed. Marina connected us to a wonderful mechanic, father and son, who took good care of our mechanical issues while the yard painter her. No problems waiting on the work with the dolphins playing in front of the marina.

Stayed there as a transient in Nov 2013. Nicest folks and so helpful, clean new restrooms, very peaceful.

Friendly and simple., 2013-09-02
Captain: , Tampa, Florida (100)

This is a simple marina in a pretty environment. The dock master is among the nicest we have come across in all our years of boating. There are convenience stores about 1/3 mile away. If you have a bike, or dont mind taking a taxi, there is a Lowes, Publix, Home Depot, Starbucks, and much more within a mile. The marina is also about a mile from the Atlantic Ocean beaches.

Well protected marina, 2013-05-29
Captain: , Hilton Head Island, SC (377)

I left my boat here for a month this Spring, and the best thing I can say is that the marina affords excellent protection from the elements. The T-dock to which I was tied had no cleats, but Kenny, the Dockmaster, was adept at tying boats to the pilings so it wasn't an issue. I felt the boat was secure because there is no tide to speak of.

There's a small store in the main office, but other than that, there's nothing around the marina. The shower and bathroom I used at the marina were clean.

Be aware that this is basically a one-person operation. If you arrive at mid-day, you may have to wait a half hour or so to dock until Kenny gets back from lunch (I did). However, he's so nice that it's easy to overlook this issue (although I wasn't so happy about it at the time as I had a plane to catch).

It was recommended by other cruisers, 2013-04-09
Captain: , Mystic, CT (211)

The crew here are just great. This marina was recommended by others who have crused the waterway and it just fit in our schedule this time by. Clean restrooms & showers. Friendly helpful crew. Easy in and out to the ICW. I would stay here again.

Dolphins Galore, 2012-12-21
Captain: , Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (354)

Stopped here for one night before a storm came up. The locals re-locate their boats here. Very secure.
Convience stores and restaurants an easy walk. Less than 1/4 mile.
Fast WIFI.

They were great!, 2012-12-10
Captain: , Miami Beach (630)

We couldn't get a slip with them as it is too close to our 'end of the month' but we did get fuel. The charge for the pump out with the fuel was $5.00. I did call first to inquire because of the rating so that probably didn't hurt but I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice and helpful they were.

Telemar Bay Marina, 2012-11-21
Captain: , Mayo, MD (41)

The guys at Telemar Bay Marina were some of the helpful and pleasant to deal with in our journey south. I would high recommend you stop there for fuel and a pump out if you're in the vacinity.

Telemar Bay pumpout, 2012-06-09
Captain: , Whortonville Nc (90)

Pumpout is now $25 and there's no sign warning you. When I pointed out that that price was likely illegal they said that they had not used a government grant so their price was not limited.. Called about diesel fuel yeterday and was quoted $3.98 when I got there the pump price wa $4.09 and that did not include sales tax. This is at the time a time when all the gas stations are actually lowering their fuel prices. They said the price of fuel was going up. Yeah right. I will never use this marina again and I will warn every cruiser I know to beware.

Unlike their snobby neighbor., 2012-04-07
Captain: , Chelsea, NY12512 (481)

We found this marina very friendly and helpful, unlike their neighbor, the Eau Gallie Yacht Club. Diesel fuel was $4.88/gal. Slip fee was &1.25/ft including electric. Bathroom was very clean.

The cheapest Marina arround Melbourne, 2012-04-06
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1214)

We stayed here because , frankly, for a cat it was $1.50 a foot. The bathrooms are acceptable though one was broken. The docks and the power were Ok. There was only a sub shop in close walking distance, but over acceptable

God Stop Just of the ICW, 2012-03-07
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (111)

Clean & friendly place, staff is very helpful, minimal to no tides. Docks are in good shape and deep / large enough for almost any size cruiser. No hotel on site, but there is a decent one just across the street. No restaurant or poll on premises.

Great Homebase, 2012-02-17
Captain: , Indian Harbour Beach, FL (101)

We keep our boat here since over 4 years and are very happy. Kenny and team are looking out for you and are quick to contact you in case something needs your attention. We personally like the mix between liveaboards and weekenders like us, it gives the place a neighborhood feel and enhances security. No resort, but has all we need - and staff is very friendly and helpful.
Recommend to call on phone rather than VHF for inquiries or checkin...seems to work better.

Great Spot for Me, 2011-12-06
Captain: , Austin Texas (30)

I stopped here for a couple of days and ended up staying a couple of weeks. Easy access to the fuel dock and slip (51%u2019 LOA sailboat with 6.5%u2019 draft). All the staff was friendly, helpful, and flexible. The area is quiet and offers good protection from wakes and wind. If you are looking for a resort marina, you will need to look further. If you are looking for a quiet, protected, and safe slip with adequate resources in the community this is a good place. I%u2019ll be back.

Acceptable spot., 2011-11-04
Captain: , Daytona Beach, FL (533)

I came in near closing time and it seemed to bother the person in charge. It was an okay spot to stay - seemed semi-deserted, but It was alright.

Poorly Run, 2011-09-28
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (151)

Stayed there 9/27/11 for one night. Dockmaster was not knowledgable or easy to contact via VHF. Shallow entrance, silting waterways. Little service. Can walk to grocery et al. Not appealing but usable.

Karen and Kenny, 2011-09-12
Captain: , Newburyport, MA (20)

Karen and Kenny will take good care of you

Good Staff, 2011-06-27
Captain: , Cincinnati (1800)

This is a nice marina but the price is not as advertised on active capn. With fees and dockage, the charge was more like $1.83 per foot. They start at $1.50 and add on fees. Staff is considerate and there is no tide or wake here. No shopping or restaurants that we found close to marina.

Friendly staff, 2011-05-27
Captain: , Hudson (274)

The marina is clean and easy to reach. The only problem I had was when I went to pay for fuel and a pump out, I was charged $20.00 for the pump out. My holding tank is only 12 gallons.

so friendly, 2011-04-09
Captain: , Wilmington Deleware (330)

No floating docks, but clean and a good safe hole. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will stay here again. We did not try the pizza place, within walking distance, but heard it was good.

Good Storm Location..., 2011-03-18
Captain: , Indian Harbor Beach, Fl (40)

Telemar is a good place to be is bad weather. Very protected by the land mass on four sides. The folks at the marina are great and services are reasonable.

Great marina, great location, high prices, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Satellite Beach, FL USA (115)

I keep my boat in dry storage here. Kenny, Karen, Fred and Tony are excellent help. I wish that the prices were more competitive.

Clean and Quiet.., 2010-02-28
Captain: , Indian Harbour Beach, FL (30)

We've been a live-aboard here for about 3 months. It's been great. Very quiet, but accommodating. Kenny & Karen are great. The Banana river is beautiful. Surprisingly diverse wild-life. We have dolphins right off the swim platform all day, everyday.

Telemar, stay away!, 2010-01-02
Captain: , Northport, Maine (80)

Nice marina with easy access. Be aware of the unfriendly attitude and price gouging. You will easily pay up to $1. per gallon over other marinas. If you pump out, expect to pay $20. even if you have a 10 gallon tank. Also, even though we filled our diesel tanks, they charged us ANOTHER $20. to top off our meager water tanks. Of course they never disclosed these high charges until I went in to pay for the overpriced diesel.

Price gouge....., 2009-03-12
Captain: , Melbourne Florida (4616)

Had a shaft fail and started taking on water, called for a haul out on ch 16. Marina priced me at $5000.00! No help there...Eau Gallie Boat Works called back and hauled me out without taking advantage of the situation.

Great place, 2008-11-02
Captain: , Melbourne, FL (141)

Good marina. Deep water. Easy walking distance to stops and restaurants. Good place to get bottom job done or repairs made to your boat. Kenny and Karen are great!

Telemar Bay Marina, 2007-08-28
Captain: , Bristol, RI (132)

Telemar Bay Marina is a safe and secure marina easily reached from the AICW. While the majority of the slips are occupied year-round , Kenny will always make an honest attempt to accomodate a transient for a night or two. Wal-Mart, Publix and a liquor store are all nearby. reached with your bike or a short cab ride. Not fancy, but clean and well maintained.
