Reviews for Sunset Marina
Terrible management, docks a mess, 2016-05-31
Captain: , Casco Bay (20)

Poorly run marina with docks in bad shape. Lots of boat wakes. Parking problems. Owners not friendly at all. Stay away.

Enjoyable Stay, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Edgewood, RI (117)

Stayed for a couple of nights and found accommodating staff, on site management, good heads, showers, laundry etc. Just a little rolly on the perimeter dock. Needed an unscheduled trip to Hamilton Marine, roughly $35 round trip by taxi.

The only thing going for this place is the sunset., 2013-05-06

Winter storage nightmare. Shouldn't storage end when get your boat back with contracted services finished? You must unstep for storage by a firm hired by SM, fine. What your not told is the problem. Haulout is about 1/2 mile zigzagging through an old industrial site off road very dusty and very bumpy, an unused dirt road so the hauler does not have to registar with town. I was told that if I wanted to go on road I would be last because it's too much trouble to do this legally. Really? We were told launch date Monday 5/1, stepped 5/3. Weds. On Weds. I was told I owe them another $178 for two nights at their dock waiting for their stepper, SM scheduled and charged us directly as part of winter storage bill. I felt this is an outright robbery and when I complained was told I was lucky he didn't charge me for the nights I stayed on my boat in "his yard" prepping for relaunch. April in Maine, no bathroom etc. the place wasn't open yet. When I mentioned this to a slipholder they said they hear these stories all summer long and the owners don't understand why so many have left to go to the marina next door. Before this happened I had asked for a deal to stay the month of May, it was twice the cost of the "fancy" place in town. Rude and arrogant behavior doesn't win repeat business.

Not a good experience, 2012-05-23
Captain: , Corpus Christi (65)

I had my boat stored at his yard. I was asked to leave 2 weeks before my end date May 30th. No refund. No explanation. "We want that boat out of our yard on the 16th." Others in the area say stay away!

Good Portland Marina, 2011-07-09
Captain: , Stuart, FL (909)

Stopped here for the fourth of July and to meet up with our boys. Easy in and out. Owners met us at the dock and helped get us settled in. We had access to a car, so got into Portland easily. They have a dinghy dock in Portland. A little less rock 'n roll than Demillo's and a little more laid back. Wanted to try the Saltwater Cafe but they were booked. Went to Yogusake in Portland - great sushi and outdoor dining. Owners were very accomodating.

Captain: , Portland, Maine (61)

It's unfortunate you had a bad experience.....we've stayed at Sunset many times and have ALWAYS had an enjoyable time. The staff is friendly and more than accommodating. Good luck in your travels and enjoy staying on moorings. I prefer a slip with facilities and a restaurant. Always a plus. We'll definitely return to Sunset again.

Do not pass "GO," ..., 2010-09-16
Captain: , Rockland, ME (90)

Not sure where all the positive reviews came from. Our one experience was poor. Pros: View, good restaurant on premises. Cons: Tugs & commercial traffic make the dock the roughest we've every stayed on. Awoke at 0400 from our boat being slammed against the dock from wake. Shore heads were filthy. No easy access to downtown. Management seems to be off premises. Bottom Line: Do not pass GO, do not collect $200, go directly to Handy Boat Service up in Falmouth Foreside.

Sunset Marina, 2010-08-25
Captain: , Grasonville, Md (252)

Best extended stay rate,$10/ft. for 7 nites; $3.25 for shorter stay. $3.00 for 1/30amp elect. Shaw's grocery shopping 25-35 minute walk. Access to dingy dock across river in Portland. Constant rolling from boat wakes during day. Acceptably quiet after sunset. Very accommodating staff.

My marina, 2008-05-12

This is where price meets service. The marina fees are acceptable and the staff is friendly and helpful. The restraunt on shore is great but a touch expensive. They have Diesel and Gas. The best part is the view!

Typical of Maine Marina, 2008-01-21
Captain: , South Portland, ME (3)

Sunset is typical of a Greater Portland marina. It offers gas, diesel, beer and assorted snacks, oil, ice, and phone, cable and wireless internet connections as well as showers and bathrooms. The docks are somewhat decrepit and as is the case from May through September in Maine, dock space can be at a premium, so call or radio ahead. Dockhands are typically on-staff full-time during summer hours and for a price there is a tender that will take you over to the bustling Old Port section of Portland across the river. All in all, Sunset is a pleasant place to tie up and is patronized by a nice mix of commercial vessels and pleasure craft.
