Reviews for Sunset Marina
Fun place to stay, 2016-10-23
Captain: , Little River , SC (30)

Almost did not find this place in Ocean City, as our Garmin still shows it 'on land'!! Dock hands were very helpful getting us into our dock. Restaurant on premises had great food. Well established 'fishing' marina, but they welcome transients as well. Another place to stay on your way South by boat.

Sailboats rare but welcome , 2016-10-18

Despite the fact that I was the only sailboat in this marina, staff and facilities were great... Only challenge is not with Marina, but navigating the inlet and approach ... Not well charted, have a 6.5' draft, wouldn't navigate this inlet in the dark, or anything lower that 1/2 tide... Great marina, good food, good people.

May be Nicest Marina Ive ever seen, 2016-10-12
Captain: , Naples, FL (170)

This is a first rate marina with plenty of on-site restuarants, laundry, stores, bathrooms, showers, pools etc. WIth all of the palm trees you will think you are are in florida. No issues at all getting in with 6' draft. We had help waiting for us to dock the boat. The marina itself is very well protected from waves and wind. This is primarily (almost exclusively) a sport fishing marina but we felt very welcomed in our sailboat.
We walked the mile or so to the Outlet Mall where we were able to get everything we needed: Marine, hardware, pet supplies, groceries, printing services, etc. Plus plenty of fresh seafood available at very nearby restuarants and stores.
I would give them 5 stars but for one reason - WIFI. As good as everything else was (and it was very good), the WIFI was almost unusable. Sunset - you dont skimp on anything else, do what you need to do to improve the WIFI.

BEWARE-Pool often closed without NOTICE at Whim of Lifeguard!!!!, 2016-08-24
Captain: , Cherry Hill (378)

[REVIEW AFTER 2nd VISIT in 2016] Just got back from our second long weekend here and were not as impressed this time. The moment I checked in, I am told their (awesome) large pool is closing early at 3pm Friday and all day on Saturday due to a wedding (owner's son). I would have appreciated knowing that when I booked my slip. My two kids were very upset and this surprising news. The part that bugged us even more was that the wedding did not begin until 7pm on Saturday, so why the 3pm Friday closure?! We met other cruisers who were there for the whole week prior and they said the pool closed two other days during the week. One of the closures was because the lifeguard called out sick (wow!) and not sure why the second closure.

Our second disappointment was with the slip assignments. The office incorrectly stated to me and numerous others I spoke to that slips were booked when they weren't. Two very nice ladies in the office were misreading "the board" and it took me several minutes of working through some deductive reasoning to convince them that the boat that was supposed to be in the slip I wanted, is not there and not coming back, and there is no other boat coming in the whole weekend (and even if there was, they could put that boat in the slip I would be vacating). I felt like I was on candid camera as they were very persistently telling me the board is never wrong and the dockmaster doesn't make mistakes.

More craziness....our 3rd day our friends who were docked right behind us told us the office interrupted their lunch at the restaurant to tell them they had to check out, as another boat needed to check in. Our freinds left immediately. Guess what? No boat ever came into that slip the whole rest of the day and night. They either lied to my friends or made another mistake.

Also they have a huge restaurant at this marina, but there is no wait service at the large pool when the waiter/waitress doesn't feel like working it. You either get service some days and other days you don't; without notice.

Now the good stuff. We still love it here. The "small" pool is still decent. We were on A dock facing north which gave us a perfect view of the dozens of 60-90' sport fishing boats that come and go every day. The slipholders, both private owners and charter crews, are so very nice. The captain of one charter gave me tons of info I needed and also told me to borrow his bicycle any time I needed it, stressing to not ask beforehand just take it. Another charter crew member saw me with an empty pizza box and trash bag in my hand, stops me in my cockpit (it was raining too) and insisted he would throw my trash out for me!! I declined twice, but he pressed me and I let him do the favor. Many other stories I could share.

The upper deck above the large pool has lounge chairs and a breathtaking view of ocean, inlet, Assateague, etc. and steps from there is an excellent gym for a marina with the same beautiful view. Restaurant is very large and food is exceptionally good. The Shark accross the street is even better. It's farm to table quality food with big city chef style cooking and presentation (not affiliated with the marina).

I still recommend the marina, but confirm the pool is open when you make your reservation and don't believe the answer to any question that anyone gives you here the first time. Take extra steps to be interrogatory to confirm accuracy. I honestly don't know why it has to be like that, but it is.

[REVIEW AFTER 1st 2015 VISIT] We stayed for 2 nights at the end of August 2015. Our slip A4 was perfectly located next to the entrance of the north pool which is by far the nicest pool I've ever seen at a marina. My kids had trouble remembering we were not at a posh resort hotel in the Bahamas! The pool was stunning, the adjacent shower facilities were like the Ritz Carlton, particularly the ladies' facility. We did not eat on site but the two restaurants looked great and face west to the sunset. Also next to the north pool was a game room (ping pong, air hockey, foosball). The south pool was nice too, but much smaller and quieter. Both pools are served with food and drink, but the marina also welcomes you to bring your own food, drink, booze to the pool which is nice. This marina also has live palm and coconut trees all throughout. Apparently they dig them out each winter and store them inside and replant them in the spring! The expense and hassle of such a thing boggles my mind, but this marina is about exceeding customer expectations everywhere. Again, by far the nicest and cleanest marina I've ever been to. Can't wait to return. Some complain about high prices, but at a place like this that puts so much profit back into the marina, I wouldn't blame them if they were twice the price as their competition.

Wonderful!!!, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (124)

This July 4th weekend was our sixth stay at this wonderful marina. I have been all up and down the east coast, and Sunset Marina is certainly one of my favorites. From teh friendly staff, to the great food at the on site resturants, to the entertainment, to the great pool, Sunset has it all. Plus you are a short wolk from several other good resturants and a fun water taxi ride away from the fun to be had in Ocean City. My one and only complaint is that the dock are not floating. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about this destination.

Sailboats are odd man out, but . . ., 2016-07-11
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (1371)

We were only 1 of 2 sailboats in the 100+ slip marina. But, if you are not intimidated by all the big offshore fishing boats, this place is worth a stay. After a 19 hour sail from Norfolk, we wanted a bit of comfort. The "new" pool is amazing; fountains, water falls and bar service. Super clean air conditioned showers. Would give 5 stars except for the tight docking quarters and we do not have bow thrusters. Without bow thrusters, in a breeze, a sailboat can only go bow in.

There are three restaurants at the marina, but we tried the "Shark" restaurant across the street and liked it so much that we had both lunch and dinner there. Their tag line is "mindful eats and spirits". Locally sourced food and very creative dishes and libations.

full service marina, 2016-05-16
Captain: , Mystic,CT (202)

Stayed in May 2016. Very proctected marina, helpful fueling staff, was on a fixed dock in good condition. The only negative was the men's bathroom and showers were dirty and had not been cleaned for a while. Showers shelves had dust and prior shower occupants items.

Great place, 2015-11-10
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

We stayed one night (Oct. 31) on our way south to Florida. Very quick and easy access from the ocean. Beautiful facility. Fuel in your slip. Nice wide and stable docks. Rest Room/Bath facilities were top notch and the food at the restaurant was wonderful. Too cold to use the pool. Would definitely stay here again. Don't mind paying extra for first class facility.

nice but pricey, 2015-05-24
Captain: , New York (262)

Spectacular views entering inlet. Beautiful, well maintained marina. Teriffic resturant with views of slips
Maybe the nicest place we stayed in on the entire trip north from Ft Lauderdale (tied with Hilton Head)
Only downside is you PAY for what you get. The most expensive stayover of the trip

Great Off Season Rate, 2014-11-14
Captain: , Ludington MI (70)

Going South 10/4/14 and pleasanly suprised with $1.50 dock rate. This is truely a First Class marina in facility infrastructure and landscaping. Bar and restaurant onsite.... obviously Sportfishig port with tournament events. Great tackle shop onsite also. LIked the Shark bar across the street and the view of the commercial fishing boats. Also a Caterpiller service agency across the street.
Staff polite and helpfull..... lots of room to walk the dog around the storage buildings.

Top Notch Facility, 2014-10-11
Captain: , WARWICK, RI (62)

A welcome sight after a long rough night. Very friendly and professional staff. Facility is spotless. Wish we had time to stay longer and explore the area.

This is a real marina!, 2014-07-28
Captain: , Charleston, SC (140)

We stayed for a night traveling south. Great location where a Tuna Tournement was going on. We rode our bikes down to the crab house at the end of the ditch. Great Maryland blue crab on the deck. Beautiful marina; wish we could stay a while and explore Ocean City.

Quick stopover - great place, 2014-04-29
Captain: , Stuart, Florida (50)

We stopped at Sunset Marina overnight and enjoyed their professional service and facilities. I'd like to go back when I have more time to stay.

Helpfull, highly recommended, 2013-09-18
Captain: , Osborn Island NJ (20)

Very accomidating, easy access to fuel docks, had a slight mechanical problem and they allowed us to tie up at a trans. slip for an hour while we found "the leak"

Outstanding Marina, 2013-08-30
Captain: , Waretown, NJ (354)

This marina is top notch. Dockhands are not only helpful but friendly as well. Bathrooms and laundry rooms could not be cleaner or more up to date. They built a second pool and a gym along with it. Fuel at the dock was very convenient and the restsaurants on site and within walking distance are great. Do yourself a favor while here and take a cab into town and vist Secrets!!

The place to stay in Ocean City, 2013-07-08
Captain: , bear, de (364)

An amazing facility. Great pool. Awesome restaurants within walking distance, Sunset grill is great . Staff is quite helpful. Sunset provisions is a great supply store, not just tackle, and quite reasonable. Easy taxi ride to the boardwalk. A second visit last week, great waterside bar with awesome entertainment

Excellent Facility, 2013-05-21
Captain: , St Petersburg, Fl (222)

We stayed there on 05/10/13 and found the facility first rate. Staff very friendly and very convenient as you can fuel right in your slip. Restaraunt on site was quite good. The entrance channel is easy to pass by as you come in from the inlet so look for the small sign at the entrance. Primarily sportfish boats fill the marina. Outside tiki bar is quite active.

October trip south, 2012-11-17
Captain: , Red Bank , NJ (275)

Great stop over on the way south to Fl. Very firendly and courtesy. You can fuel up right at your slip. Fuel is reasonably priced. Marina is very clean.

Fishermans Marina, 2012-07-18
Captain: , Occoquan VA (60)

I have had two extended stays here and I love being close to Ocean City. If you want to be near the beach this is great. I have read all the reviews and would agree with the facilities being superb, restrauants plentiful etc. But from a cruisers point of view, while the staff is first rate the other boats are mainly charters and are in business to take people fishing and are not out to make friends. I will stay again, but don't plan on potlucks with new found friends as most of the other boats are 99% anglers with few cruisers.

A great place to stay if you want to go to the beach or have boat toys: dinghy, kayak etc as there are many places to explore.

Nice stop going oceanside, 2011-02-01
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (87)

Couldn't go via the C&D canal due to ice conditions. Stop here and was pleased with accomodations, dining, and bathroom facilities. Fuel prices were on the rise because of the crisis in Egypt. 2.99 diesel by time taxes were added it average about 3.17 per gal.

fun place to stay, 2010-06-29

This a clean, well run marina with slip side fuel and pump out. They have a great eatery on sight. Easy entrance and slip approach. Need to take a taxy though to get to beach areas.
