Reviews for Sunset Cove Marina
07/26/2016 - Would stop here again, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Blanco, TX (420)

Quiet family owned marina, no shopping or restaurants, which works for us. Joe was very accommodating, moved some boats around to make room for us, wind picked up so kind of tricky docking but had plenty of help getting us on the dock, no frills place, would return

Great stop, 2015-07-26
Captain: , Sandusky, Ohio (392)

Called ahead for a reservation, Joe said he'd keep an eye out for us. It was a great stop after 7 hours and 4 locks from Bobcaygeon. Joe is layed back and extremely helpful. We got a tie up on a wall in front of his house in the shade. Quiet, down home marina which we always look for. Good wifi and electric, no water. Baths and showers good. I'd stop again.

Stop before Simceo, 2015-07-09
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

This is a nice place to stop before going thru the five locks before Simceo lake. Joe the owner moored our 37 foot on the gas dock. We had a couple of boats that did not obay the no wake. for the most part it was a very quiet place. Restrooms and showers are clean.

A Pleasant Stop, 2014-07-10
Captain: , St Petersburg, FL (277)

This is a nice stop in a pretty residential area between Fenelon Falls and Lake Simcoe. The docks were in good condition and the outside dock easily handled our 42 foot trawler and the 49 foot Grand Banks that was behind us. The toilet and shower facilities were adequate and clean. Wifi was good. A few boats went by, but otherwise it was very quiet and a restful stop.

Handy stop on the long Trent Canal, 2013-08-23
Captain: , Calgary, Alberta, Canada (854)

Despite what you might have read from one single recent reviewer, we checked out this marina again on Aug 22, 2013 and found everything in pretty much the same shape as noted three years earlier. In particular, there was no garbage (in pact the place looked very clean) and the docks were certainly capable of mooring our 45 ft Sea Ray MY. Joe was his normal helpful self, even going above and beyond to assist another boater who had damaged her prop in the canal a day earlier.

We continue to recommend this marina for a nice break as you head down the long canal to/from Lake Simcoe. As stated earlier, the owners live on site and are very helpful.

Larger transients tie up along the outer wall, which is subject to some wake disturbance from other boats in the nearby channel, but such disturbance is rare after 7 pm when the locks close immediately upstream and downstream.

Yes, Joe is a nice guy, but he has lots of excuses for all the stuff that does not work or needs fixing. He's a one man band that appears to be hanging on by a thin thread. This marina has seen much better days. This is really an "any port in a storm" marina. Forget all the reviews you've seen on this marina. The Good: Ice, fuel and a pump-out that has lost some of its vigor. The Bad: Trash everwhere; in the water, on the shore, no decent facilities. Rickity docks, uncovered electrical outlets and other hazards abound. It's like traversing a minefield - danger everywhere. Dock here only under duress. GMK 07/19/2013

great stop, 2013-07-03
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

nice quiet stop. No restaurants though Joe said there is a pizzza delivery. Very dog friendly. Wifi OK. 2-30 amps worked fine. we stayed on outside dock. Lock just a mile downstream. Laundry was down so Joe allowed us to use his home washing machine.

Sunset Cove Marina, 2012-07-22
Captain: , Miami (71)

Nice layover and very relaxing. We needed to stop and pay some bills with Wifi so we called ahead to confirm. Joe said they were having some temporary problems but they could accommodate us. When we got there we were greeted by Joe and the dogs. Very dog friendly. Still no Wifi so Joe took my wife to their house and let us take care of our bills. Very accommodating indeed. Very quiet and peaceful.

Great Stop after Nervous Day, 2012-07-14
Captain: , Dataw Island, SC (290)

Stayed here after the nervousness of the Talbot River. 3 family members helped us dock - very friendly and helpful. Niice relaxing setting with plenty of depth. Would definitely stay here again.

No laundry small family run

Good stop for the night, 2011-07-15
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

The owner Joe was there to assist with our docking and checkin. This is a family run operation.

Docks are wooden and in good shape. Minimal wake due to this area being a 10 Km/h speed limit.

Nice view. Would stay here again.

Good docks for large boats, 2011-07-07
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Deep water, clear of weeds at dock. Owners, Mary & Joe, live on site and are accommodating. Docks are new and stable. Best stop for miles. Wi-fi signal is strong. Quick stop for fresh produce and staples is a mile walk.

A good stop before Lake Simcoe, 2010-07-01
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

This is the second time we have stayed at this facility. It is family run - they live on the site. It's a bit of a hike to a restaurant and grocery store but you don't come here for the shopping.

On our last visit we weathered a major storm and felt very secure. If you want a convienent stop for the night in a large boat with necessary facilities - this is a safe choice.
