Reviews for Sunset Bay Marina and Anchorage
great place off season , 2017-09-02
Captain: , Pittsburgh (564)

We stayed for a week after buying a boat in Stuart. All the local amenities are near. Not cheap!

FANTASTIC SPOT to visit or live., 2017-07-19
Captain: , kemah (22)

I sailed up from Marathon to enjoy the cute little city of Stuart during Hurricane Season and have fallen in Love with the Marina. Sam Portolese, the General Manager, Nicole and all the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this marina to everyone. I'm on a 45' sailboat and have lots of great neighbors on very large power boats all around me.

The facility is new, clean, and well maintained. I guarantee, you will love this marina. I took one of the complientary bikes and rode all around the quaint little Stuart downtown area. It's full of restaurants and bars and great views everywhere. There is a Publix Market a few blocks down the street, and a farmers market every weekend. Lots of other shops, and needed facilities.

One of the best on the east coast., 2017-07-12
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (283)

This is an enjoyable spot to spend a night, a month or longer. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of nice amenities, an air conditioned laundry, a guest lounge, weekly pump out and free loaner bicycles to name a few. Their internet connection is also very good, alllowing for streaming, etc. It is also in close proximity to the quaint downtown of Stuart.

Great stop not perfect but really good, 2017-06-25
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

On A dock, fixed dock on west side would be exposed to wind wave from west.
Fuel dock floating, good prices and service, free water, trash dump, ice available, pumps work well. Helpful attendant .
Only bad thing to say is another young attendant who helped us dock was terrible, had a bad attitude, was not trained, could care less. Dropped two lines in water, tied us to slip that would not accommodate the two fifty amps outlets we had ordered when we made reservation.Had to move the boat to the next slip after being tied up. Tied us so tight the first and second times we could not position bumpers, had to ask him to loosen up the lines on both tie ups. No smile just a bad attitude.
Other staff had a good attitude, were very helpful. Very clean restrooms, clean facility, numerous dock carts for each of the 4 docks.
We had just completed an overnight passage from Great Harbor Cay in Bahamas, called in for arrival to US Customs, got arrival clearance but since we did not all have the LBO we had to report to US Customs at the Ft Pierce Airport about a 45 min drive. Had to rent a car. No hassle at airport just had to rent a car to get there, out in middle of no where on far side of Ft Pierce.
Sailors Return restaurant is outstanding, be sure to eat there sometimes need reservations.
Enterprise will pick u up, 10 min away. Open 7 days per week, great staff.
Food stores nearby long walk or reasonable bike ride. Downtown Stuart has many nice restaurants if you have time see the downtown, very nice, many shops etc, old Fla.
Good laundry on site, small gift shop. Good power and incredible water pressure, be careful maybe too much pressure for hooking directly to your boat.

Subperb marina!, 2017-05-22
Captain: , Toronto (10)

We spent two months at Sunset Bay and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Amazingly clean marina! The staff is wonderful and always have time for you. They go out of their way to engage fellow boaters eg. movie night (popcorn included), potluck dinners, etc. You feel at home with the beautiful boater's lounge with a huge TV, comfortable sofa and chairs, as well as books for the avid reader. We've been in many marinas who say they have WiFi but really didn't. Sunset Bay WiFi is exceptional! Parking is included. Great restaurant with live entertainment nightly on site. It's like being at a resort! We've already booked for next winter! Doug & Lori Johnston

Great Marina very accomodating to Cruisers, 2017-05-08
Captain: , Gulfport FL (80)

Free bikes to ride downtown
Free movie night - last night we watched LaLa Land and had Jambalaya for dinner, supplied by local eatery
Cruisers lounge with lots of books to trade
Nice store with cute stuff
A great restaurant next door:Sailor's Return
Clean docks
Water & electricity
Friendly Office staff
Plenty of dock carts
Free shuttle to stores
Nice showers
Laundry room
Wow, I might just have to move here
The only negative thing I can say is the water here from the Inter-coastal/Indian River is the muddiest I have ever seen
No not swim in the water, lots of wild life does however, dolphins, fish etc.
Sunsets are also fabulous, with the afternoon thunder storms and clouds, the sunsets are often dramatic and very colorful!!
Sunset Bay Marina is a great place to get boat work done while in Florida

Large marina with access to almost everything!, 2017-04-07
Captain: , Cape Coral (81)

The best features that we enjoyed were 2 small restaurants located within 2 blocks of the marina. Casa Bella is a small Italian place located in a house. food and atmosphere reminiscent of Savanah Georgia. La Granja is a Peruvian place that serves authentic cuisine dishes of beef, pork, chicken and beef. very good and very inexpensive. this is not a high end sit down place like the Italian. You walk in, order at a counter, they bring you your food. we were in and out in an hour on a Friday night in season.

The marina is fresh and we'll maintained, plenty of seating for daytime socializing or sunset viewing. old town Stuart is an easy enough 3 block walk.

Confirm your reservation, 2017-03-22
Captain: , Charleston (130)

When we announced our arrived at the marina, the staff did not have a record of our reservation. Unfortunately, the dockhand mistook us for another boat and put us in their slip which was barely large enough and only had 30 amp service (we need 50 amp). In the office, the staff said I should have received a slip assignment when I made the reservation and would have paid in advance. None of that occurred even though I had a record of my phone call. Sam helped with getting us power and acknowledged there was some sort of miscommunication. The next day, the marina made good and said they would refund us our slip and electrical fee. When making a reservation at this marina, make sure you get a proper confirmation.

Sunset Bay Camp for Boaters, 2017-03-13
Captain: , Confetti, Kadey Krogen (1719)

This was the first time we stayed at sunset bay marina, the staff and services could not have been better. We stayed one month. The marina is exceptionally clean, the laundry room has lots of washers and dryers and brand new ones as of march 7th. The marina has a great lounge and they do a lot of extras including movie night and pizza and they have their annual end of season party this week. They also have a huge gas grill with lots of tables you can use anytime. The marina is very secure and safe. In contrast to a previous review about paying for dockage up front, while you do have to pay when you make a reservation, they will work with you the best they can if your dates change some. It's a great policy and is needed as some folks make reservations and change them at last minute without notice to the marina. You can walk or ride a marina bike to everything. Publix is right down the road and downtown Stuart is right across the street from the marina. It's a wonderful downtown with lots to do. Check out the Lyric theatre and Luna's for great mussels, pasta and pizza and Noodles for awesome curry and sushi. If you need chiropractic services - Dr Lisa Grassam is fantastic and within walking distance to the marina. And be sure to go to the Stuart Museum which is open Sundays and Monday's and the huge Farmers Market every Sunday from 10-1. And there are free concerts on the water every Sunday from 1-4. A huge thanks to all the staff at Sunset Bay!!!!! It's like a huge camp for Boaters and they even have a fire each evening!

Stayed for 2 nights in mooring field, 2017-02-24
Captain: , Englewood, FL - Winter, Cape May, NJ -Summer (1098)

First time here so we elected to stay on a mooring ball. About 50 percent of those on balls were also active cruisers. MF was too far for the available WIFI. Staff was competent and helpful. Sunday night was movie night with pizza c/o the marina. About 8 free use bicyles with baskets, not junk, available to sign out as needed. It was nice not to have to haul our folding bikes to shore. I wish more marinas did this. We used them for a run to Publix. Downtown district easy walking distance. The only real negative was the Ships Store is tiny at best.

Great Mooring Field, 2017-02-09
Captain: , Hampton NH (292)

Planning to stay for one night but heard of the planned Super Bowl party and a 20' outdoor screen so stayed for three. The moorings were robust and perfectly safe. This marina has good security, a caring staff and the dinghy dock was a gem. It is close to town and the excellent on site restaurant is a draw. Good bikes are available for longer treks.

Great Facility, 2017-01-30
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

I have always liked this marina and mooring field since the first time we walked its docks seven years ago.
This Christmas we finally got to spend several days on a mooring ball and it was as expected awesome.
With winds out of the east at twenty plus we were very protected with very little chop.
The marina laundry facilities were great with five washer and dryers that worked great we would definitely stay here again if in the Stuart area which is also an awesome small town.

Longer stay than planned...., 2017-01-24
Captain: , Maine (221)

Intents were a few days, but refrigerator issues turned it into a two week's stay. Stuart is enjoyable, got a lot of walking in. Marina shuttle is very convenient and enjoyable (watch out for Sam!). Moorings are robust as we had a couple nights where the wind blew into and over 30 kts. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves and will return. Oh, and Sam is a delight. Even his jokes.

Sunset Bay Moorings, 2017-01-17
Captain: , Spruce Head (582)

Do not call for pump out, sign up in Marina office. Currently slips on Thursday and moorings on Tuesday. I discovered that after calling the # listed on our first Tuesday at 0800. Went to the office to learn that the clipboard had already been picked up. Sam placed a quick radio call and we were pumped out by the nice young man on the Martin County boat just as we returned from doing errands. Later, we all received e-mails that the Wi-Fi would be upgraded between 9-11 one morning. Both the upgrade and the communication from Matt and Sam are noteworthy. All staff, including Nicole were helpful at one point or other during our two and a half week stay. Very sociable atmosphere around the clubhouse. We have been here before and we will return.

Great Experience, 2017-01-13
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

We stayed at SB for a week and enjoyed every moment of it. All the previous reviews are valid. We stayed on the outside of A dock. It was a great dockage with plenty of protection from the winds that blew through from the N and E. Perfect. We were fairly close to shore. The wifi was white hot. No problems with streaming. Staff, shoreside facilities, the town, the shuttle bus, etc. all terrific. I want to mention too that there was a very friendly and fun sense of community about the place. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood and happy. There was lots of dock talk and gatherings on shore. If they had a pool, I'd be hard pressed to want to be anywhere else. One downside is that it is surprisingly noisey from the highway and train tracks.
Great experience. We'd love to come back.

We love it here!, 2016-12-15
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (282)

It is all true! This IS a fabulous marina...with clean, modern bath and laundry facilities, lovely outdoor spaces with a firepit, porches with sunshades, a large grill, comfortable outdoor furniture. all surrounded by beautiful landscapting. The moorings are on a first come, first served basis with plenty of room to swing and protection from the north and east and a floating dinghy dock. BUT, the BEST thing about Sunset Bay is the STAFF! Everyone is friendly, helpful, kind, and cheerful. Sam, Matt and Nicole run a great organization. Their number one goal is customer service and that is obvious by the way they treat transients as well as long term tenants and their careful maintenance of the property. Simply stated, we have never felt more welcome at any marina from Maine to the Bahamas! Thank you to everyone at Sunset Bay!

Sunset Bay moorings, 2016-12-14
Captain: , Galesville, MD (1341)

The moorings are first come, first served. So be prepared to check the mooring field and have a back up plan if the field is full. Staff may know which balls are open and will advise if you call, but they can't hold it or guarantee it will be open when you arrive. To avoid the small hassle we had, here's a bit of info I didn't see on their website. There are two mooring sizes. I now understand that the moorings with red numbers (easy to read) are for boats under 37' and generally the lower-numbered moorings closer to the docks. Moorings with blue or black numbers are for larger boats over 37' which are numbered 37-65 and seem to be the outer rows closer to the charted channel and towards the southern end of the mooring field.

Due to a miscommunication over the VHF radio we selected a mooring that was too small for our boat, although we thought we were following marina directions. We had to leave the mooring field after we were settled since there really weren't any appropriately sized moorings available. We moved over to Pendarvis Cove just across from G25 and G25A for the night. The next morning we were told a mooring for larger boats might be coming open. Since it was hard to tell when and where the ball would be available, we took the dinghy over and marked with a float one of what turned out to be two open, appropriately sized moorings, then moved the boat over. Overall, it turned out fine and we like the marina, wifi and services. Just be flexible and have a back up plan if the mooring field is crowded.

Guaranteed slip, 2016-11-11
Captain: , Green Cove Springs (81)

WE have stayed at Sunset Bay Marina and Anchorage for the past four years because it is a fantastic place to winter. I was on a waiting list the first year, but now that I can pay a deposit and KNOW I have a winter slip I am much more comfortable about my winter quarters.

If you want a quality marina with great ammenities it is the only place to be in the Stuart, Florida area. By far the best feature of the marina is the staff. They are helpful to a fault and will do whatever is necessary to make your stay wonderfilled. Sam, the manager, is helpful beyond belief. We travel the east coast from Lake Champlain in the summer to Stuart in the winter and throughout our travels, we stay in no finer place.

I have heard of a boater complained about having to pay a deposit to guarantee a slip, but they do not know the difficulty of finding a winter slip of such high quality that does not require the same deposit. Further, they did not know that the required deposit was refundable within reason and that it cemented their place in the marina. Some people grouse about everything and are simply immposible to please. To them I say, "Please stay elsewhere so happier people can fill their void."

Great Marina, Great People!, 2016-11-08
Captain: , Stuart, FL (426)

Ed, with all due respect, you are substantially wrong about the cancellation policy. Last year, Sunset Bay adopted a policy of requiring 30 days notice for cancellation in the busy season. This was due to 15 "no-shows" or very late arrivals at the beginning of busy season last year that cost the Marina 10s of thousands of dollars. So to your two points, you don't "Pay in Full", you pay for between one and 30 days up front, and you can cancel for any reason, you just must do it 30 days prior. In addition, Sunset Bay Management is not unreasonable. We had a medical issue last year, they worked with me on arrival dates. This is a great Marina in a great location, much better than Loggerhead (which no longer allows live-aboards), and due to it's popularity and the significant number of no-shows is trying to adopt a policy that is fair to boaters and to them. Don't forget when the 15 boaters last year did not show up or were very late, it kept 15 of us from being able to stay here at the busiest part of the year. In my opinion, they are the real problem, not Sunset Bay. Lastly, Sunset Bay management has always been open to ideas or suggestions.

Reply to previous negative review by Ed Mull., 2016-11-08
Captain: , Captiva (173)

We have spent the last five hurricane seasons at Sunset Bay Marina. Having sailed from Charleston, SC, to Corpus Christi, TX , we have never stayed at a better marina. I want to reply to the negative review written by the previous person, Ed Mull. Having been here for so many years, I have witnessed the numerous cruisers who make reservations for the winter season and never show up, never call, or arrive weeks late. There is always a waiting list at Sunset Bay in the winter season and many boaters are turned away both in the very popular mooring field and the marina. The people who work in the office could not be more accomondating. Last year they started a policy where they would begin charging a customer on the day the reservation began. This mainly applied to people staying for months. Of course, they planned to adjust it if the cruiser contacted them with a reason for being late arriving. Invariably when they call people on the waiting list with little notice after someone does not show up or call, the perosn has made reservations at another marina. In fact, this "rule" has not been used yet and is not being enforced this year for winter season guests due to the delays getting here because of hurricane damage on the way south. I once heard of a woman who made reservations for the winter at Sunset Bay and also at a marina in Ft. Pierce and decided at the last minute which one to stay at. Obviously situations like this cause problems, which Mr. Mull must realize. I've known the marina to credit someone who was staying here by the month and left without telling them. They automatically charged him for the next month but when the person got the bill and called, they refunded him, which they didn't need to do since he failed to notify them he was leaving. Anyone who stays here knows the marina staff goes out of their way to accommodate people. If Mr. Mull did not like what he presumed they were doing, that is fine, but it is unconscionable to call for a "boycott" of the marina for a necessary policy in a very popular location which hasn't even been enforced yet. Trust me, this marina will be full for the entire season because it is so highly rated and loved by the seasonal and year round guests. Reasonable people understand that a marina has to make money and if guests make reservations repeatedly and do not show up, they have empty slips which could have been filled.

SAD NEWS TO REPORT, 2016-11-06
Captain: , Naples, FL (52)

They have gone to a PAY IN FULL IN ADVANCE! at the time of your reservation and STRICTLY NO CANCELLATIONS OR REFUNDS for any reason.
I have stayed there a few times every year, it was great!!!
I'll never stay there again unless boaters boycott and cause them to change this unreasonable policy.
Loggerheads is probably the next best option if you want to be close to town.
Thank goodness we have Active Captain to warn each other!!

Always a good stop, 2016-10-31

Wide floating dock slips with wide fairways. Friendly staff. Expensive electric. No discounts. Sailor's Return restaurant on dock ok food expensive

Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (396)

Not cheap ... But in. This case YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
Came in on a VERY windy day. We had reservations fora slip (cross winds). Asked for a tie along. Even though they were full up, they made it happen! Dockage with no problems. Staff is GREAT as well as accommodating.

Facilities are clean and well maintained. Good access to old downtown Stewart and river walk.

Any problems, talk to SAM .. Very helpful and concerned.

Highly recommended!

great marina, nice town, 2016-06-13
Captain: , Kemah (73)

We stopped in Stuart to talk to the local sail maker, Mack Sails, about a new set of sails.
The best marina in the area is Sunset Bay as it is much closer to Stuart than Loggerhead. The prices were a little higher but the marina was very clean and had a great on site restaurant. All floating docks were excellent and the marina has courtesy bikes with small baskets. We stayed there three nights as we discovered that out fresh water pump on our engine had failed. The local marine supply store, Shearwater Marine, was able to source the part the next day. We also found a store to get a carb kit to fix our outboard. They have a great selection of new and used parts. The store is called Marine Parts Outlet, and the staff were excellent.
The town itself is great, with a lot of history. We ate at the Pelican Cafe which is not to be missed and only a 3 minute walk from the marina. We also went to Terra Fermata one night (think eclectic hippy) to see a live band.
All in all, a great stop on the way Northbound

A welcome respit after coming from the Bahamas, 2016-05-15
Captain: , Bradenton, FL (90)

What a great place to sail into. After checking in with Customs and being directed that we must go to the airport for a personal appearance, Sam Portolese, Gen. Mgr., helped us get an Enterprise rental car ($9.99/day) so we could drive to the airport to check in with Customs. The accommodations at the marina were the best. Clean showers, great laundry facilities. Can't say enough good about this place. Sailor's Return restaurant nextdoor is a plus also. Free bicycles to use. Excellent area for grilling out and just hanging out too. The scenic downtown area is in a short walking distance.

Way out in the Mooring field..., 2016-04-18
Captain: , Chicago, IL (1056)

Wifi not great on the outer fringes of the mooring field, but that shouldn't be a surprise. Beautiful boaters lounge, helpful staff, easy walk to downtown - Farmer's market and outdoor concerts on Sundays. Large dinghy dock area for folks on mooring balls, accessible without having to enter the marina.

Look forward to mooring again, 2016-04-15
Captain: , Point Edward (459)

Staff was very good. Wifi reaches to the mooring field. Great dinghy dock. Showers and washrooms very clean. Laundry was reasonably priced with lots of machines. Good weekly rate for mooring field. Use of bicycles was appreciated. Close to downtown is a bonus.

Great Marina, Great Staff, Great Location, 2016-04-06

Spent the winter at Sunset Bay Marina and loved it. The staff is wonderful, friendly and accommodating. The facility is first class and maintained beautifully. They make recycling easy. Couldn't have been happier! Thanks Sam, see you next fall!

Stayed here a month. Like others have said, they try to make this place home when staying here. The staff support is outstanding. The town os Stuart is great. Good provisions either by bike or courtesy van twice a week.

Nice town, Nice Marina, 2016-01-05
Captain: , Sunset Beach, NC (1146)

We enjoyed the town very much. If you like pizza, go to Luna's. They have pizza by the slice which is most excellent. I've seen nicer showers and I'd expect this to be top notch for such an expensive marina. Follow the back road South to find a very nice park which is good for walking dogs. Even though I had paid for two days they refunded the second day when I decided to leave early. Also let me give a shout out to Treasure Coast Battery and Alternator -- they came out to my boat and installed two new batteries, and did a professional job for a great price.

The new wifi is outstanding. Other marinas should use this as a model for what is possible, but then everything at this marina is first class.

Great stop, 2015-12-02

Very nice facility, let us pull up to the dock for most of the day for some boat repairs at no extra charge (we hung on a mooring for a week). Close to provisioning, restaurants, good wi-fi.

great Marina, great staff., 2015-11-14
Captain: , St. Augustine,FL (261)

Spent a month here in October 2015. Can't say enough about Sam, Matt and the guys they were great. The facilities are 1st rate. Wifi is being upgraded. Restaurant noise not an issue on A. Dock could be an issue closer in.
Overall one of the best best marinas we have visited.

New (and great!) WiFi, 2015-11-13
Captain: , Annapolis (1465)

Just turned on the new WiFi system. Repeaters all along the docks. Very fast. This place just keeps getting better!

I cannot say enough good things about this marina. Everyone on the staff is super friendly and out to make your stay pleasant.
"D" Dock is a little close to the music and the outside of "A" Dock can get rolly in a south wind. The floating docks are great!

Martin Co. Pump out boat comes weekly. Restaurant ( Sailors' Return) is fabulous!

Great marina, solid docks, clean restrooms, helpful staff, 2015-11-13
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

Answered phone and Vhf promptly. Fuel and pump out on the way in, easy to get done before moving to slip. Wide fairways. If placed on long face docks, don't turn down dock help. Boats are packed in close together. Very clean restrooms, showers, large laundry area. Very nice upstairs boaters lounge. Shuttle bus service to area shopping.

Very clean, well-done marina, 2015-08-21
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (201)

Only reason I don't rate it 5 stars is it's missing a pool (so in comparison to other marinas it's lacking that amenity). But the bathrooms are among the cleanest I've seen and the laundry room is huge. Within easy walking distance to downtown Stuart. Decent wifi.

A Great Place, 2015-07-10

Beautiful marina with great docks [almost all are floating]. Easy access to Stuart and all that it offers including grocery and restaurants. Slips are hard to come by during the high season, but fairly easy to find during the summer. Great on-site restaurant.

Very Accomodating, 2015-05-28
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (10)

Warm, friendly and engaging management and fun too! This is a very clean and modern facility. Many good restaurants nearby, with shuttle service to groceries, etc. Sam and Nicole are great.

Nice place to stop- reasonable price, 2015-05-17
Captain: , Kalispell, MT (40)

Picked up a mooring ball (last one available) for $25. Longish row in the dinghy to the dock. Nice place. Clean showers, Walked into town for dinner.

Overall, very pleasant place to stop. We used it for staging before heading down the ICW enroute to Lake Worth and then crossing over.

Wow! Great Place!, 2015-04-27
Captain: , Fort Collins, CO (107)

Staying here on a ball for the first time on our way to Indiantown. It is really a top notch marina. Moorings for $25 a day include use of all facilities, which are first class. Great showers, laundry, cruisers lounge, free bikes that are not rusted, nice (but pricey) restaurant, etc. Sam, the manager, goes out of his way to be friendly and helpful. Will stop here twice a year when we bring our boat back and forth to Inidantown to be hauled.

Beware of the current, 2015-04-17
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

We have fueled and docked here and the current very strong. Beware. Try to dock at slack tide. Docks are good. Showers/laundry exceptional. Great boaters lounge. Restaurant onsite is excellent if you can get in. Make reservations in advance of arrival. Walking distance to downtown with lots of dining choices.

April 2015: diesel prices good. Still a good marina and very clean facility. Friendly area. Will return.

Best spot in Stuart for being with in walking distance to everything, 2015-02-24
Captain: , Stuart, fl (40)

Make reservations in advance because it books up quick. Had a problem with reservation but Matt took care of situation quickly and found me a slip. Very clean marina, friendly people, and lots of action at marina as well as tons of places with in walking distance. My only complaint would be parking at peak times. Other than that this place is the best marina around with even better sunsets.

Great mooring field - super staff, 2015-01-16
Captain: , US East Coast (610)

spent 2-1/2 months on a ball here while fixing boat issues from a lightning strike. Super nice staff, great courtesy dock privileges, convenient to everything (we had a car).

can get just a bit rocky in a north blow, some train noise, but great sunsets and wonderful stay.

Great community here, 2014-12-27
Captain: , Cobb Island, Potomac River, USA (363)

Well-kept marina with friendly, helpful staff, and bikes offered free to get to the many options around town. The best part is that for those staying for a while, the marina sponsors get-togethers to create a nice community. The moorings are a great low-cost alternative.

Nice vibe at this well designed marina, 2014-11-16
Captain: , Deerfield Beach, Florida (150)

Sam the dockmaster was very knowledgeable we were assigned a slip on A dock. The view from A dock over the mooring field was great. Apparently the seawall under the A dock does not go all the way to the sea bed. There can be unseen currents even though the surface water looks calm. If help is offered, take it. There is a unique cantilever 2%u2019 x 3%u2019 platform to make boarding easier that can be moved along the dock on a rail for long term folks. The cleats can also be moved. The laundry and restrooms are very clean. The showers have a curtain to protect your belongings and a door. The on-premises restaurant played live music until 11 PM on Friday night with a lively dancing crowd. Many seasonal live-a-boards and knowledgeable boaters inhabit this well designed facility. I can see why it is popular.

Another great time here, 2014-11-14
Captain: , Narragansett RI (234)

We always stay here for a week on both ends of our annual cruise and love it. Couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Stuart.

Nice place to mour, 2014-10-30
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (60)

Had my boat here on a mouring - also where I bought it from. Great facilities and friendly people and lots of night life if you are into that sort of thing. Kinda loud on the weekends till around midnight so don't expect t turn in early without ear plugs!

Mooring Balls, 2014-10-02

Great Mooring Field. Larger boats on South end. We're 53'. Mooring ball requires a line tie.

Easy fuel stop., 2014-07-13
Captain: , Fort Pierce (72)

Left the boat on the fuel dock for awhile when going to the nice town center for breakfast, a great spot. Marias Cafe gets 5 stars as a breakfast place as recomended by the very helpful dock hand.

Great Independence Day BBQ, 2014-07-06
Captain: , Stuart, Florida (10)

We thank Captain Cobber for the kind words and I would like to clarify one point. The BBQ was a great success thanks to my counterpart Matt Moritz. Matt planned the entire event and was assisted by LeeAnn, one of our superb Dock Attendants. Sunset Bay is fortunate to have key employees of this caliber.

Great Independence Day BBQ!, 2014-07-04
Captain: , Cocoa FL (670)

We stopped in for a few days on the way south to the Keys and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Sam and the staff hosted a fantastic BBQ the evening of July 4th which was followed by an outstanding fireworks display at Flagler Park across the street. Although the river walk is close by, we enjoyed the fireworks from boat as the view was fantastic from the mooring field. Clean washrooms, well-stocked store, close to downtown Stuart, we can't say enough. The city even sponsers a free historic tour/shuttle that will pick you up and show you around the city. A truly well-run marina in a wonderful city!

Great mooring field with lots of aminities, 2014-06-20
Captain: , St. Petersburg (749)

We were here one night on Sat. June 7. You get a lot for $20. Great little shopping area, nice loaner bicycles, GREAT live entertainment in the afternoon & evening and a very friendly and helpful staff. Only thing more I could have asked for was a pool. We went gunkholing up one of the creeks in our dinghy.

Hard to beat for mooring value, 2014-06-19
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

We have used their moorings several times now and for $20 you get a lot of amenities: a great TV lounge, great showers and heads, free Wi-Fi, a super gas grill and patio area, nice loaner bicycles, and a very friendly and helpful staff. I would rate it 5 star if it had a swimming pool but there really isn't room for one.

windy stuart, 2014-04-27
Captain: , iuka,ms (222)

arrived at the hight of the wind/current .. lee ann answered my first call on 16 . she was very helpful getting us tied up/fueled/pumped out along with about 6 other boats..the fuel dock is a little bumpy but thats natures fault not the marina..we were then helped to r slip by matt who was also very helpful.. good wi-fi, floating docks, good restaurant, free bikes , good experience

We were a little fish in a big pond but what a pond!, 2014-04-04
Captain: , Gloucester, Virginia (100)

Our 40-ft. Mainship trawler enjoyed our overnight stop among the big guys, Dockmaster was helpful, facilities were clean and nearby. People friendly. Nice walk into town. Good dinner on outside patio at Oscelo's. Beautful setting

ONE OF THE BEST, 2014-03-04
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

We stayed here in a slip on dock "D" for 3 nights and on a mooring for 2 nights the first week in April. 2012. The facilities are tops, great cement floating docks, clean bathrooms and showers, a nice boaters lounge, a marine store, and a very good laundry. The dockmaster, Sam, was very helpful and accomodating, although I thoought he needed some more help. The help was knowledgeable and friendly and assisted in docking. They have a shuttle bus to take you shopping, and the Town of Stuart is nearby with plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. In fact there is a restaurant at the marina called Sailors Return. It drew large crowds and they had live music. The Stuart Historical Museum is a very worthwhile stop. The only 2 things keeping me from giving a 5 star rating was the train that came thur every night and early morning. It was close to "D" dock and disturbing. The other issue was that "D" dock was exposed to the wind and waves and was very rocky in a 15k to 20k wind. The mooring was much more comfortable.
Stayed here in Jan. 2014 for 4 days. This time in an inside slip. Everything was first class.

Top notch...$300 for a month on a ball and GREAT service/facility, 2014-02-25
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

Courtesy bus to shopping (but there is still shopping within walking distance) twice a week, community activities, great lounge and showers, free bikes, and Sam (you'll see). Great downtown in walking distance.

Currents on D dock, 2014-01-15
Captain: , Midland, Ontario (142)

The sea wall on D dock is only partial. Suggest that you discuss slack tide arrival with office. I have watched large vessels with hydraulic thrusters having difficulty dealing with the currentson arrival and departure.

Beware of the current!, 2014-01-04
Captain: , St Petersburg (345)

We were on "D" dock and saw numerous boat crashes caused by the current. Do yourself a favor (and everyone else) by coming in and going out on slack tide.
The current doesn't seem to be so bad on the other docks since they were more protected. We also found it very curious that the dock personnel doesn't mention the current.
Other than that, the marina is wonderful.

Rumor has it, 2013-09-29
Captain: , St. Augustine (26)

Stopped by last week to visit an old friend at this marina and the rumor on the docks is that the owners are now in the process of replacing the long time dockmasters with some of their friends from Ft. Lauderdale. Brilliant!

Great marina, great location., 2013-09-02
Captain: , Tampa, Florida (100)

Our first time at the marina and we would definitely return. The assistance began when we entered the marina to dock and continued our entire stay. We needed service on our freezer and the dock master located an excellent person. Our computer monitor had broken due to a wake from an inconsiderate sportfish, we asked the dock master where we could get a new one and he gave us an extra one he had at home! The marina has a fun restaurant immediately next to it (can't remember the name), or you can easily walk to downtown where there is a selection of restaurants and bars. We definitely recommend this marina.

Great Faciliity with helpful staff, 2013-08-08
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (732)

Great floating-dock facility, helpful dockhands and marina staff. Wonderful lounge with books, TV, cold AC, etc. Location is excellent, adjacent to downtown Stuart. Watch for the current flowing across the entrance.

Beautiful Marina... update 2013... update ammended, 2013-07-01
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1316)

Very nice staff. (not so nice anymore) But I added another star.
Heard from one of the office staff and they say they have improved the wifi there.
No Internet the last time we were there 12-2012
It's really a nice marina and Stuart is a nice town. Doesn't matter what the review says... the marina is always full.

Beautiful floating docks
Nice community of boaters in the winter
walking distance to two park, restaurants, and a the river walk
Beautiful boater's lounge with big screen TV and DVD
Large grill at outside common area
Great Restaurant at top of hill... If you can get in.
Most of the staff are excellent, especially the office staff. (Not so excellent anymore.)
Never stayed on a mooring but they seem nice. Facilites are clean.

Highly Recommended, 2013-06-06
Captain: , Kemah, TX (159)

Stayed 3 nights. On last day, needed to go to nearby West Marine and there was no available transport so dockmaster loaned me his car!

Sunset Bay Marina, 2013-05-25
Captain: , st marks, fl (62)

Been here a couple of months, Apr and May. Good floating docks and clean mooring balls. Very clean showers and laundry facility. Staff is excellent. Bus 2x a week to Publix, West Marine, WalMart, etc. during the season. Courtesy bikes available all the time. Nice downtown area and waterfront boardwalk. Only drawback is no really cheap diners in walking distance.

Stuart is a Neat Town, 2013-05-21
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

The staff was near perfect and the town is so much fun to see. Docking is easy. Price is too high, but that is offset by the neat town. Worth the extra ride form the ICW

Sunset Bay Marina, 2013-05-16
Captain: , London (342)

After looking from Miami to Stuart for a marina that would suit our needs as "cruisers" Sunset Bay Marina stands head and shoulders above any other option we found both in terms of amenities and cost. The staff are helpful, generous and kind offering help and assistance when needed. This is a place with a real community spirit. As to facilities there is a complimentary bus to supermarkets and West Marine for guests and car park for those with vehicles. Very clean showers and laundry facilities. Post & parcel delivery is organised and reliable. All berths have power and water and there is a comfortable airconditioned lounge area offering TV, games, kitchenette etc. The Wi-Fi is the one downside. Whilst we were there a new sysyetm was put in place which worked very well until the new log-in page appeared and it is now no better than before, and that means poor. The area of Stuart has very heavy growth in the water so be prepared to have divers attend your boat at least every month. Strong tides when entering and leaving the marina area should be taken into account when navigatiing.

I really like this place!, 2013-05-15
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (1089)

Quality, well protected floating docks, a seperate full-service fuel dock, clean laundry, head and shower facilities, great ships store, excellent restaurant "Sailor's Return" on premise, and a five minute walk to Old Town Stuart with all sorts of fun shopping and dining. Oh, and I did I mention a really competent, friendly and helpful staff? I really like this place!

Update 4/2013 - Still a great marina with excellent facilities, but try not to stay on C dock above slip #38. It is open to the channel from that location so you get some wave action. Much better to be on B dock if space available.

Another great dinner at Sailor's Return!

Close to perfect - somewhat less closer to perfect, 2013-05-14
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

Update 4/11: Since last review, stayed a few days in Fall and just spent 3 weeks on the A dock - much nicer than the D dock. The restaurant is better than our first visit. Sam the dockmaster (deputy, I think) is great. A very well-managed, maintained, and clean facility. Shuttle bus runs on Wed and Sat to take you shopping and provisioning.

5/2/10 $2/ft $7/50amp The facilities are very nice (they're new). Small tidal range here (1 ft) so fixed docks are fine. Dock staff was helpful. The captain's lounge was very nice - nicely outfitted and a great view. The only issue here is that transients are put on the D dock, which is maybe a tenth of a mile from the Old Roosevelt Bridge (which is also the Okeechobee Waterway), with nothing in between, and you rock and rolll all day long with the continuous boat traffic. It does stop at night (mostly).
It is very convenient to the Stuart Riverwalk, lots of restaurants (try The Riverwalk Cafe for an outstanding meal), and shopping. Publix is 0.8 miles from the marina. Unlike many municipal marinas, they do provide free internet. The food at restaurant at the marina is adequate, while the environment is very lively at night.
Update 5/14/13 - This time in a slip way at the end of the dock (0.16 mi from office) - much more current here (are we in Charleston?) and much more exposed - try to stay closer in if you can. Coming from the west, St Lucie River has lots of skinny spots so be aware. Marina and staff is still very good and helpful. Docks and facilities are being maintained in excellent condition. One facility item to note, they close the restrooms and laundry for 2 1/2 hrs every day. This seems excessive - 1/3 of the day spent cleaning for the other 2/3 of the day. The restaurant had flaws - the cook (not chef) is heavy-handed with the salt (soup) and the onion rings had too much breading and the oil wasn't hot enough - they were awful. The wait person did comp the $1 extra charge. There are much better places to eat within a short walk. New to us is a produce market, with what's in season, just across RT 1 (short walk).

Friendly Staff and great Facilties, 2013-04-12
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (271)

Our second time at this big marina with helpful staff and very clean facilities. A few too many "codes" for bathrooms, laundry, gates, and wi-fi, but all-in-all a great value for the money.

Good Place But Books Up Early, 2013-04-04
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

This is a very good marina with state of the art docks and amenities all in good shape. Outstanding staff as well. Because of this and the Sailors Rest Rest. and the center of Stuart within walking distance, this is a majorly popular place for boaters to stop and stay for a while. Definately call well ahead for a place as this books up easily and remains full during the winter months. Good staging for the Bahamas and/or the west coast of Florida.

Cruiser oriented marina!, 2013-03-21
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (311)

Stayed here for the month of January this year on a mooring ball. Stuart is a very accomodating city and welcomes cruisers. Sunset Bay Marina is an equally accomodating gateway to the community. The marina provides a shuttle two days a week to all the major shopping stores including Publix, CVS, Harbor Freight, Wal-Mart. Downtown is a short walk or the marina provided bicycle loaners. The town is fairly bike friendly, but stay on the sidewalks or get run over. We biked north to the Mall, Kohls, Total Wine, Target, and Wal-Mart. Downtown provided music and weekend markets. There is a great fresh vegetable market on the north side of the river, but you probably need a car as it is some distance. If you like Sports Bars, Duffy's in downtown is the place to go with discounts in the afternoon with their Duffy's MVP card. The marina itself offered a Movie night. There are places to gather and have group cookouts in the eventing. The lounge upstairs is a great place to use the computer or meet people to watch a movie or play games in the eventing. Buy a coffee mug and get discounted coffee in the morning. The convenience store has some basic food and boating necessities. The staff is super friendly. You can call the city/county and schedule a pump out at your mooring ball weeksly. You can also pump out at their fuel dock. They were nice about letting you take some time to fill with water and rinse down the boat. They also have a dock near the restaurant next door if you need to park during the day to load or unload something. The only downside to the marina is it is so popular in January, it is sometimes hard to find space to park at the dinghy dock. Sometimes people park large dinghies between the finger docks and virtually block you from getting in or out. They might want to make some improvements by having 10' or greating length dinghies park on the outside finger and have only shorter dinghies between fingers.

Great Marina - Great Staff, 2013-02-18
Captain: , Stuart, FL (71)

I can't say enough about the folks at Sunset Bay. The staff - Buzz, Sam, Ruth, LeeAnn, Jason and Chris are the best. We stayed at Sunset for 5 months and they were the most helpful group I have ever run across in a marina. The facilities are clean and up to date. It's a short walk to downtown Stuart. There are a number of restaurants in walking distance and a Publix supermarket about a quater mile down the road. The have a Mini Bus that makes a loop a couple of times a day that can take you to most anything you need. We will be back.

Great facility, 2013-01-17
Captain: , Weston, VT (570)

My wife and I are just finishing our first week of 8 we will be Sunset Bay. We are loving it. On C dock in front of restaurant but not too close. Bands play, people talk and we hear little of it. To us not an issue whatsoever. Staff super friendly. Best feature is location. 5 minutes to historic area. We have a car and I was concerned about parking and fighting for a space with the restaurant. Marina has it figured out and there are no issues. Looking forward to the rest of our stay.

Pro's and Con's, 2013-01-14
Captain: , Bristol, RI (431)

We were here during the Stuart Boat Show. There might be more pluses during a quieter time.

marina staff are friendly and helpful
good location, bikes and shuttle available if needed
docks new and maintained
dog-friendly - we don't have one, but enjoy patting any we see

We were placed in front of the restaurant which was very noisy, even without the bands. If you need quiet, don't stop here, since friends in the mooring field could hear the band. I don't know if bands are a regular thing or just for the boat show.

Lousy internet. If a marina advertises internet, it should work, especially at the dock.

While the bathrooms were clean, the shower heads were a bit wimpy and it took forever to get hot water.

I'd stay again, but would try for a mooring first.

Gorgeous Facility, Great Staff, Nice Town, 2013-01-13
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

This was my final stop on a relocation trip south. This marina is top notch, well kept, great walking access to town with shopping and restaurants. Fuel dock staff was great. Dock attendant helped us tie to our assigned slip and office staff arranged for a ride to the airport. The trip included 9 other marina stops, and Sunset Bay was by far the nicest. Many others were basic, clean and well staffed, but this one is a cut above.

We will come here again, 2013-01-09
Captain: , Rising Sun, DE (210)

Very nice, new facilitiy with large laundry, clean bath house, cruisers lounge, loaner bikes, easy fuel dock and friendly staff. Publix 0.6 miles, West Marine 2.5 miles. Upscale restaurant (Sailors Return) onsite.

First Rate Marina with great staff, 2012-12-31
Captain: , Washington, DC (435)

While we prefer to anchor out we were referred to this maria by a classmate of Freddi. It exceeded every expectation; new docks in great condition, good communication, very competent dock staff (helped us depart in 15+ winds, etc), wonderful dockmaster, great facilites. The on site restaurant, SAILORS RETURN, is an excellent fine dining location with a good, well priced wine list. There is a boaters lounge, lots of events, loaner bikes, ship's store, etc; all a 10 minute walk to old town Stuart. We'll be back. They have great prices on moorings and an active cruising community.

Big, Modern and fully equipped, 2012-12-15
Captain: , Wickford, RI (386)

Great spot right near historic downtown Stuart. Big marina that can accomadate almost any size vessel. Newer docks and facilities, nice restaurant.
Don't miss the riverwalk that runs from the marina all the way around under the bridges to downtown Stuart.

Very Bad Experience for us, I will never go back!, 2012-12-09
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

I do believe this is the first one star rating I have given on an open facility.
Sufficent to say, No VHF on fuel dock???are you kidding me.While sitting out front, with a reservation, No answer atfer 3 calls, called on the phone, no answer, left a messaage. But wait, theres more, read on....
Fuel dock attendent that finally apeared wasn't helpful ,after buying $600 worth of fuel, and we had to pull the hose out and put it back, Fuel attendant was busy washing his shoes.
the manager ( I think) helped me dock, after we were all tied up, heasked "how the fuel dock guy was", I said worthless, he went a bit nuts and said he didn't like my attitude and demaned I leave.
Not a nice guy. Must be the owner, no employee would act like that and still have a job.
I know this is a nice marina in a good locations, but I will NOT be back.

Well Maintained, Downtown across the street, 2012-12-08
Captain: , Halifax Marina Daytona Beach (300)

well maintained Marina, slip on face dock was very tight but we got plenty of help from the staff, downtown is just across the street, Sailors Return is a good restaurant with nice view

Be careful with the moorings, 2012-12-07
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1926)

We spent one night on a mooring. When we pick up the pendant, the eye was covered with barnacles, so was the mooring ball. Got out a scraper to clean the eye before threading my line and scratched my hull on the barnacles on the ball when I was working. Complained a check-in. Woman said that they had just cleaned it 4 months ago. They just don't get it.

A fine place to stop, 2012-11-26
Captain: , Ocean Springs MS (1454)

Nice folks. Mooring field is watched over/patrolled and kept well. They're a bit shorthanded so sometimes you might have to wait a bit for phone/vhf response but go ahead in or take a ball, they'll settle you. Lots of do and see ashore, right there at the marina as well as short walk into town. Transports available too. Good stop.

great place to stop, 2012-11-10
Captain: , Key West, FL (90)

We grabbed a mooring and ended up staying here longer then we had planned. The facilities are excelent and well maintained. We weathered tropical storm force winds from hurricane Sandy. It gets pretty rough in a west wind but well protected from the North and East. There is a tiny bit of current. When the wind slows down you will ride up on the ball. The town has everything you need all within walking distance. Be sure to get coffee at the Osceola Street Cafe.

Best Marina I've Stayed In, 2012-08-19
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (211)

This is the best Marina I've encountered in 50+ years of boating East and West Coasts. A very negative review recently causes me to write and express my opinion that the facilities and staff are the best. I don't know what problems Captain Sterling had going the day he pulled into Sunset Bay but his experience is not the norm.

And tarpon too!, 2012-08-12
Captain: , Va Beach, VA (151)

A great marina with a great restaurant (Sailors Return).
As an added bonus, take your dingy outside the breakwater and catch 35-50 lb tarpon during the warm months!

Great beginning!, 2012-07-12
Captain: , New York (70)

I recently purchased a vessel that was docked here and so had the opportunity to spend a few nights at the marina prior to heading back to New York.

In short, I was very impressed. Staff, facilities, conditions -- everything was great. Not to mention being able to take a very short walk to historic downtown Stuart, an area full of shops, cafes and restaurants.

Sunset Bay Marina, 2012-05-28
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Great place. They were very nice and put us in a place where a handicaped visitor could easily get aboard. All we had to do was ask! Good facilities and docks.

A Great Marina, 2012-04-13
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (506)

Nothing's perfect, but this Marina comes close-- it seems to have everything -- the big clean laundry room even had an iron and ironing board!! A nice boaters lounge, good restaurant, small boutique, lots of outside lounge chairs, security gates, good proximity to town, and lots more. Stay here if you can!

Sunset Bay Marina Stuart 03.17.12, 2012-03-18
Captain: , Emerald Isle, NC (300)

Height of the season and crowded but dockmaster found us a spot in the marina to stay to visit MTOA friends ashore. We usually stop at the mooring field but not this time.

Flea markets on dock Sundays. Boaters do dinner on the docks for friends and new comers...

Friendly and helpful. Would recommend and stay again if we need a marina in Stuart on the way to / from Lake O.

Great free bicycles, 2012-03-04
Captain: , Georgetown (290)

We stayed on a mooring here for 2 nights. The field is a bit tight and you need to tie very close to the ball. The staff in the office and the store were extremely friendly and helpful. The laundry had great new low agitation washers, but had to run my towels twice in the dryer. There was and arts and craft fair in town and we took advantage of the free bicycles to check it out and for a run to Publix. A very pleasant stay.

cruiser friendly, 2012-02-03
Captain: , Westport,Ma (710)

We stayed here for a month wish we had found it sooner. They have a shuttle that takes you to several stores they run twice a week. Wed and Saturday mornings. great laundry, showers the grounds are very nice with a picnic area, and rocking chairs along the water. The resturant, Sailors return is excellent. You are located within walking distance to shops and other resturants. entertainment most nights at sailors return. Many activites planned throughout the week. Love it here and will return next year.
We have returned again for another month and its still just as warm and welcoming as last year.

Great mooring, 2011-12-21
Captain: , Galena, MD (1856)

Called at last minute to secure mooring ball and they had a few left. Pulled up to dock and pumped out holding tank, filled water tanks and then moved to mooring. Easy dingy ride in and good dingy docks, easy walk to town and shopping. Stayed til 3 PM the following day to visit with friends, total charge $15. Clean showers and laundry and friendly people.

This is a great marina with lots of amenities and close to everything. However, do not take an alongside tie on the outside of D dock. With any North or East wind it is very bouncy. The staff knows it is uncomfortable, but they still want their $100 a night. Insist on a slip inside the breakwall or go elsewhere.

Best Marina!, 2011-12-09
Captain: , Boston (232)

We have stayed at hundreds of marinas. Sunset Bay Marina is in excellent condition and has the services that one expects. What sets it apart is the people. I needed to go to West Marine to pick up a replacement fresh water pump. When I asked for a taxi Sam the Dock Master tossed me the keys to his car. I am very thankful for the generosity and kindness that Sam extended to me. I would highly recommend this marina!

Captain: , Harrison Twp, MI (350)

Nice marina, clean, maintained and friendly. Excellent laundry and showers. The mooring field is the best amenity for cruisers like me. It is priced right, but often full. Access to everything one could want within walking distance except West Marine, which was a little over a mile. Short dinghy ride up small canal gets you to an excellent mexican restaurant with good prices... or walk there if you wish. Only bad side is the muddy river water.

Outstanding Marina, 2011-10-27
Captain: , Houston, TX (114)

The best facility I have ever stay at. Sam the Dockmaster is outstanding and takes a personal interest to help. Great staff, good rates, Sailor Returns restaurant unbeatable. Ships store and small supplies on site. Shuttle service to nearby West Marine. Pfooublix and multiple food and drink nearby. Stayed 5 months and hated to leave.

Great location and great marina. The Sailors Return restaurant is located in the marina and has good food and a great bar. The marina has modern facilities and floating docks.

Came for 3 days, stayed 3 weeks and loved it!, 2011-07-05
Captain: , New Orleans (651)

Arrived 6-8-11 to stay 3 nights, but loved the town and marina so much we stayed 3 weeks and transferred to the monthly rate. The staff and live aboards treated us like family including offering free mangoes in the mornings. The ships's store had great coffee, wine, bread, unique clothes and handmade jewelry and handbags made by local cruisers. We walked the boardwalk to the historic town daily and never ran out of restaurants with cozy atmospheres to sample. The neighboring inlets and waterfront restaurants warrant car trips for a few days. We will return to this marina because of the warm atmosphere and great staff. True hospitality exists here.

5/5/2011 Came in from St Lucie lock at 8:30pm and picked up a mooring - $15. Nice SS thimble on pickup. docked for 2 nights at C33 - floating docks - nice! $2/ft & $9 for 50amp. On-site restaurant (Sailor's Return) was excellent. Staff was very helpful - especially in office. Dockhand could have been more friendly. Free loaner bikes. Nice laundry & showers. Good security. Nice location for walk to downtown Stuart. Will come back again.

Spent 3 nights. Steve on the Fuel Dock was a super helpful guy.Great Location. Sam, Harbor Master very helpful and gave a personal tour of the facilities and explained everything. Beautiful floating Docks. Nice seating areas around office to enjoy socializing with other boaters. Ships store. They have a nice mooring field with a great dingy dock. Security Gates. Free Bikes to borrow. Shuttle to stores. Good Restuarant on site and a short walk to many more good places to eat. Fanstatic meal at Jerry's La Famiilia Ital1an & Seafood Restaurant. This was a very enjoyable and pleaant stop. Hey Sam: We will be back. Would like to see Cable TV avaiable next time. Management is working on it. Showed Sam how to access their reviews Capt Bob M/Y ALLEZ!

Poorly placed Dinghy Dock, 2011-04-21
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

We started out in the mooring field, but had to move to the marina after an encounter with barnacles on rocks near the dinghy dock. The dinghy dock is U shaped and hard dinghy are asked to dock on the outside of the U. That means that the inflatables must maneuver between the end of the dock and a wall of rocks. If you take the turn too widely the dinghy will rub against the rocks which of course have barnacles. We got a nice 2" rip in our inflatable from the barnacles and had to rush back to the boat and lift it out of the water before the tube filled with water. There was a deflated dinghy on the dinghy dock so I know that we are not the only ones who have had a problem at this dock. The rest of the marina was nice and close to town.

safe, clean, convenient, 2011-04-06
Captain: , Nashville (260)

A great stopover or place to settle in for a while. Professionally managed, rapt attention to detail and boater needs. Convenient to town, easy transportation, good sites for walking. Ample support facilities nearby. Busy and noisy on weekends with a popular restaurant on site, but not intrusive. First class facility!

Great Stop, 2011-03-30
Captain: , Kingtston Ontario (273)

Marina is really clean & well looked after. Came for a few days, staying for a month. Everything is close by & they have a great shuttle bus. We are on a mooring ball & use the dink to go ashore. One caution when using the dink dock, beware of the 30-40lbs Jacks pursuing the mullet, they are know to ram the boat going after their prey & get you real wet, we know first hand:-)

Upscale Marina..., 2011-03-18
Captain: , Indian Harbor Beach, Fl (40)

This is a very upscale Marina with superb services and attention to detail. I rate this marina high in quality but a little pricey for our pocketbook. However, great mooring field with dingy dock which is very reasonable. Attendants see to your every need and the facilities are high quality and well maintained. Short walk to downtown and a very pleasant place to tie up%u2026

Came for 3 days, stayed 2 weeks, 2011-02-07
Captain: , New York, NY (36)

The staff and facilities are great. It is a nice building with a very nice cruiser's lounge and porch upstairs. Downstairs there is small store containing basic necessites and goodies - not too many stores stock Bahamas Explorer charts alongside cup noodles, but this place does.
They provide courtesy bikes, although publix is only a 10 minute walk away. I used the bikes to cycle to Home Depot, Target, Walmart etc on the north side of the bridge.
Downtown Stuart is a short stroll away with lots of restaurants and shops, you take the scenic route there by following the waterside boardwalk from the marina.
Stuart itself is a nice small town. While there I was entertained by 3 free outdoor concerts, and a pig roast put on by the local yacht brokers.

My only complaint would be that the dinghy dock is in an awkward configuration and there are sharp mussel shells waiting to lacerate your inflatable dink as you make the sharp turn in/out of the small fairways. Be careful negotiating your way in if you have an inflatable.

Great Marina, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Palm CIty Florida (48)

Very good marina. Staff is very helpful and are interested in what is happening on the dock. Our boat is there for the year and everyone watches out for each other. Good location as it is close to downtown.

Excellent marina, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Stuart (81)

Great location within short walk of downtown Stuart and provisioning, every type of marine service you could want, well protected, new, clean facilities, great restaurant at head of dock, professional staff, free van service, a fun, liveaboard contingent, competitive prices, moorings or slips and south Florida weather.

Sunset Bay Marina, 2011-01-30
Captain: , Shell point, Fl (190)

We are younger cruisers, early 20's, and we were planning on mooring in their field however after the horrible reception we recieved upon docking our dinghy we changed our minds. After tying up we were immediatly approached and told that we could not park our dinghy there. I understand the stigma that comes along with youg cruisers but I had assumed a marina with such high ratings would not generalize when it came to their patrons. I was sad to discover however that they were rude and unkind. For this reason I would not recommend their facilities to any cruiser.

Great Marina, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Beaufort Morehead Yacht Club (221)

We left our sailboat on a mooring for two months in their mooring field. Although they cannot take responsibiity for the boat, we were able to hire one of their employees (Kyle) to monitor our boat. He checked it weekly - and found one of the two mooring lines had worn into and replaced it. Outstanding service and beautiful marina.

Best Marina Ever, 2011-01-10
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (660)

This is far the best marina I have ever been to. They can not do enough for there guests. It is very reasonable for south Florida. It is only about 2 years old since they did the renovation. Docks both floating and fixed are pristine. Free Bike rental, Twice weekly shuttle to shopping, cruisers lounge, outdoor movies one night a week. I can go on and on, but I think you will not be disapointed.

Mooring Field, 2010-12-06
Captain: , Washington DC (152)

Stayed at the mooring field for a few days at approximately $15 a night. Close to everything you need and service personnel were helpful and friendly. Shuttle bus to West Marine only runs two days a week. A little noisy ... trains and automobile traffic on bridges, music at restaurant, people singing/laughing ... but would stay there again. I agree many boaters do not pay attention to the no wake zone.

Good Stopover, 2010-12-05
Captain: , Rockport, ON, 1000 Islands (30)

Stayed for a month last spring and it worked out well.

Mooring Field, 2010-11-15
Captain: , Panama City, Florida (521)

Very nice mooring field. Better protected than it appears on the charts. The marina provides protection from the Northeast. Some wakes, but not too bad. Excellent free internet, laundry room, showers, dinghy dock, etc. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Easy access to restaraunts, shopping and historic downtown Stuart.

Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (998)

Very helpful staff and dock assistance. We were transient docked on B dock and the floating docks were easy to approach. Staff gave a tour of the Day Room the laundry and showers and a brief on the layout of the town. Publix three blocks. At least a dozen restaurants withing walking distance

Sunset Bay mooring field, 2010-03-22
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

Stayed here 2 nights; would stay again.
No pennants on the mooring ball. Line is easier to grab from alongside our boat (Defever 44). Large thimble; tied 2 separate lines to the ball from port and starboard hawse pipes.
Mooring field can be bumpy due to local boaters. Marina facility is quite nice. Town is a short walk. Lots of restaurants. Small Farmer's Market on Sunday's from 9-1PM.

Use caution, 2010-03-19
Captain: , Newville (488)

Great spot; friendly staff and clean facilities. Good fuel pricing. However, be aware that the outside of the fuel dock can be hazardous to your boat. Wind & waves are not too bad, but can be rough. Biggest problem is the inconsiderate boaters that blast past leaving a lot of potentially damaging wakes. We also lost some rubrail.

Excellent new facilities..., 2010-02-03
Captain: , MV Red Head (61833)

The facilities at this marina are great. They are new and very comfortable. The captain's lounge is very nice. The staff was very helpful to us - we got some fuel, pumped out, water, and then spent 6 days on a mooring.

The mooring field is very well laid out although it can get bumpy through exposure and wakes at times. It wasn't really that bad.

I think the dinghy dock is poorly laid out. It should just be a large U. Instead, there is an extra float that makes it impossible for a lot of dinghies to use the facilities. Everyone I saw had problems with the dinghy dock. It's hard to imagine that something hasn't been done about this.

The river walk is very nice with lots of shops and restaurants.

We would have had a better time if there was a dog park near the marina. We also would have stayed a lot longer. The dog facilities aren't good in the area. We may be odd in this regard but it greatly affects our experience (and our dog's).

Great stop, 2010-01-15
Captain: , Worton (445)

Excellent marina, good staff, well kept facilities. Mooring field a bit exposed. Dink dock a bit cramped. Captians lounge is excellent.

Free dockage for restaurant, 2010-01-10
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay (592)

There is a floating dock deep in the marina where they let me tie up for a meal (I also took a between-course trek to Publix). It probably gets crowded in good weather.

Good Facility, 2009-12-31
Captain: , Northport, Maine (80)

We are in the mooring field. No rafting of boats and the daily rate is $10. Monthly rate is $240. Staff is very helpfull, friendly. Great cruisers lounge with free wifi. Showers could be cleaner.

Be very careful using the fuel dock. Large 12" diameter posts keep you off the dock. If winds are blowing the wrong direction, you can expect damage to vessel. This could easily be corrected by marina but they won't install rubber guards on posts. We lost a good chunk of our rub rail doing 0 mph! This can get worse when other power boats fly by without slowing down creating large wakes and bashing your boat onto these pilings.

Stuart is a nice old town with a very active performing arts theater, many restaurants and shops. No access to the beach.

moorings plagued by wakes, 2009-11-21
Captain: , Block Island (1679)

A very nice facility with friendly staff. The docks look sturdy, and they have to be because even large yachts completely ignore the no wake zone just outside the marina. I suffered damage to my tender when it was tied alongside from the passing wakes while I was on a mooring, and that was during the week. I fled the place before the weekend traffic. Moorings are cheap at $10/nt. Would be 5 stars but for the wake problem that no one seems anxious to do anything about.

Roosevelt Bridge Info, 2009-11-17
Captain: , Edenton, NC (887)

Reviewed the bridge restrictions listed. Called bridge tender to comfirm. (16 nov 09). Bridge tender said the Roosevelt Bridge has been on a "On Request" at all times basis (except when the RR bridge is down) for about two years. (couldn't update the nav data on the bridge icon so I put it in the Sunset Bay Marina review.

Captain: , Punta Gorda, Florida (41)

Mooring field is excellent except in strong SE winds. We by-passed this on 4/11/09 for an anchorage up the North Fork of the St Lucie because of the wind. We returned here for the night of 4/12/09. Yes there are the trains—no big deal. There is a drumming circle in the nearby park on Sunday evening—yes, you can participate. Leave your dinghy on the canal wall going in next to the park. Showers, bathrooms, laundry are all very clean. Easy walk into town along the river boardwalk. Great town with nice restaurants/bars.
