Approach

There is an unmarked post not on the charts at the entrance to the channel. Leave it to port then keep to the port side of the channel. Once you are between the jetties, look for a sand boat launch on port and be sure to move to starboard there. Clear deep channel there. It is highly recommended that you enter at high tide and do not attempt this entrance in the dark. The marina monitors channel 16. Contact the marina for assistance.

Their floating dock is not well maintained. The rub rail was too soft and the exposed bolts below were rusty and jagged causing a 7 ft long gash in my hull. I have photos to prove this. I asked the manager, Ta'Shar Cuccurillo for their insurance info several times, but was never given it.
My insurance company, BoatUS, has made several requests for the name and contact information of their insurance company and also never received it. My emails and copies of BoatUS emails are proof of this. All they ever did is deny responsibility for the damage. It makes me wonder if they even have insurance.

We love this place!, 2016-03-01
Captain: , Ottawa (303)

Limped into this peaceful oasis last spring to escape a nasty storm with waterspouts and deliberately returned this year to the same friendly welcome. The staff are very helpful, the shelter of the cove is superb. The facilities are good (pool, laundry etc) and the rates are outstanding. We definitely plan to return on our way back to the US and may even consider leaving our boat here at the neighbouring yard.

Reasonable & Quiet, 2015-04-14
Captain: , Ft. Myers, Fl. (361)

Enter only at high tide if you draft over 3'. Staff friendly. They knew we were coming but had to wait for them to make room on center dock for our 53' MY. Small, protected Harbour Good free wifi. No restaurant or bar. Far from any shopping or food. They took one motel room & made it a small laundry & dock bathroom. We stayed 3 days waiting for a crossing to FL. MAKE SURE YOUR TENDER IS SECURED! There are issues with theft of motors in the area. Boat US discount.

THE BEST DEAL ON GRAND BAHAMA!, 2014-07-02
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (372)

This place used to be called Running Mon Marina way back in the day. It was a such a shoddy dump back then that I never bothered to stay. It was sold and re-launched as Sunrise somewhere around 2008. I can't BELIEVE how nice they've made it. It is squeaky-clean, has great facilities (floating docks!), great wifi, friendly staff and excellent security. The rooms in the hotel are VERY nice and are as spotless as the rest of the place. It is a welcoming, relaxing place to stay. There's a great (surprisingly large) grocery store less than a mile away. Knowles Marine (full mechanical services, a fuel dock and haulout facilities) is right next door. We were only planning on staying for a day and moving on, but we liked Sunrise so much we ended up staying 6 days. I couldn't believe how small my bill was when I left. Make sure you ask for the BoatUS discount -- it makes what was already a great deal even better. I'm only giving it 5 stars because they won't let me give it 14 stars. I'll be back. Soon.

Great place to stay, 2014-03-08
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (375)

Ta'Shar and her group do an excellent job of making you feel at home here. Great dockage, great food. The inlet is only about 5 feet deep at low.

hot shower and cold AC, 2014-03-02
Captain: , Palm Beach, FL (341)

We stay there when go tuna fishing in the channel during the summer. The place is clean and safe and out of the Lucaya tourist craziness. Floating docks are great. Rooms have hot showers and cold AC. Pool is clean. Nice billiards room to hang out.

No restaurant or bar. Bring your own food with you unless you want to grab a taxi into town.

Staff is supper friendly.

TaShar, the GM will take good care of you. Bring her fresh mangos and tell her Checked-Out sent you!!

Our favorite marina on Grand Bahama. Very cheap and good services. Floating docks! Shower facilities clean, great wifi. Approach channel down to 3 ft at low tide, OK for us we are shallow draft.

Nice and Inexpensive, 2014-01-07
Captain: , Ottawa (1173)

This little marina has a lot going for it, as long as your expectations are reasonable. First off, they have well built floating docks (floating docks are a luxury in tidal waters), good shelter and very friendly staff.

They have basic amenities here, so don't expect a 'five star resort' type of experience. They have a room they've converted for the boaters, with a toilet, shower and washer/dryer. There's not much else at the marina. The restaurant and bar are closed now.

The marina is located close to many useful resources. Walking distance to a grocery store with a good selection and reasonable prices. Freeport and Lucaya are a short taxi ride away.

We stayed here for two weeks while we had family visiting, and very much enjoyed it. If we had a requirement to stop on the south shore of Grand Bahama again we would happily stop here again.

Great place to check in, 2013-11-26
Captain: , Tracys Landing, Maryland (350)

The marina itself is very protected and the staff is wonderful and will make arrangements to have customs and immigration come to the boat - so this is a great place to check in. We were a little concerned about the channel after reading some of the other reviews, but no big deal. Our 21ft. beam was no issue, and as long as you transit during high tide you will have no issues. The conch stand up by the grocery is amazing! There is a bar down the beach ($2 Bar), and they go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome (kids and dogs included).

Nice Marina, 2013-06-18
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (142)

We spent two nights here in mid June. Easy check in, great staff, clean facilities. Entered within 2 hours of afternoon high tide, 5' draft and had over 3' underneath. Easy dinghy ride to a couple of nice beaches to walk and swim. Didn't make it to town, but will on the return.

Awesome friendly staff. Great security. One word of advice. Negotiate your taxi fares with the local (i can not remeber his name, but a great guy) driver ahead of time. Free bikes, great beach... AWESOME!

Great place to stay, 2012-08-05
Captain: , Bacliff, Texas (136)

Spent 3 nites at the dock. The staff is very friendly, THE BATHROOM IS CLEAN!! With the high tides, it is nice to be on a floating dock. A very good grocery story is close by and I recommend the ice cream store that is near the store. The resort offers complimentary bicycles, and had a good washer and dryer. In the evening, they drop off a small bag of ice, just in time for sundowners. It was a very nice change after spending time at the Port Lucaya Marina.

Well protected, 2012-05-01
Captain: , Halifax (20)

Stayed here for a blow and we were very well protected, the price is right, 2days free then a dollar a foot. Staff were very helpful, the place is clean and tidy. The entrance is a bit spooky especially for a catamaran. There is a very narrow area in the canal where the wall has collapsed and the canal is only about 25 ft wide, also there is silting at the entrance, high tide would be best for entering and you definitely do not want strong south or SW winds which make it almost impassable. At high tide we saw at least 7ft all the way.

Away from the action, but still very nice., 2012-04-14
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

March 24-28
Very good physical facities with floating docks and capable dock hands and friendly helpful staff. Very under utilized because of the economic downturn and their location from Lucaya where most of the activity is.
The price for trasnient boaters at this time was incredibly low, $61.00 for 3 nights included water and wifi and free bikes and kayaks , and small pool and laundry for a small fee.
Unfortunately it is not close to any attractions. We did an 8 mile bike ride to Lucaya. We had a great lunch and fun shopping. There is a good grocery store and restaurant about 1 mile from the marina. Great walking and jogging area. We also did a taxi tour with Godfrey and went to Freeport and then out to beautiful Fortune Beach for lunch and beach walking. Godfrey gave us some great information about the area and came back about 3 hrs later to take us back to the marina. The marina is ajacent to a boat repair yard that sells fuel.
The inlet can be shallow at low tide, we draw 5.5ft. We entered and exited at mid to high tide without any problems. Follow the marks carefully. A good point to position to cross the Gulf Stream. The Grand Bahama Island is very impressive in their development and reminds us of Fl. I would definetly go back.

Best Deal in the Bahamas!, 2011-12-18
Captain: , Annapolis (221)

At the time I write this, Sunrise is offering two night free, no strings attached. Combined with the fact that you can clear in there at no additional charge and you have a very winning combination. When the manager realized that some boaters were going to be trapped there by weather, she offered *everyone* the 25% discount regardless of Boat U.S. affiliation. The little grocery story is a short walk and it's well stocked and great prices for the Bahamas. Limes were 15 for a dollar for example. Free use of bikes, the kayak and a paddle boat. 10 minute walk to a beautiful mile of beach that we had to ourselves. Our electric cost for the week was $18 total (didn't need to run a/c) on our 40 foot boat. We used the spotlessly clean shower (which drain has been repaired apparently) and did not hook our boat up to it. Everyone is bending over backwards to make it the best place in the Bahamas and it's working. We really liked being away from the cruis ship croud and didn't mind taking the buss (normally 1$) or walk where we wanted to go. Staff did offer a shuttle one way to breakfast/dinner. Why did we ever skip Grand Bahama before? We are not ussually marina people but if more marinas were like this, we probably would be.

Not bad for the price, 2011-06-07
Captain: , Portsmouth (163)

The entrance to this place from the ocean is tricky- At high tide the width and the depth is 8' +. But there has been no maintenance on the channel for years. Your Garmin/Explorer charts will show you further west than you really are and roughly 150' past where the breakwater on the east starts there is a breakaway boulder on the east that will limit the width right there to 25-30'. After that the depth and width are fine- just be ware at low tide multi-hulls need to be very wary.

Once there the place is quiet. They have a nice pool and everyone is helpful. Make sure you ask for the Boat US deal right away: otherwise they won't give you a break price wise. Boat US discount was 70 cents per foot or $15.00 a foot for the month.

Freeport itself is trying to make a comebac, but most of the hotels and attractions are closed or looking like they are on their last leg since hurricane Hugo.

Water and electric are seperate, but reasonable. Their is one shower for the whole marina that drains poorly.

The price is right, but unless you just want to hangout and do little- not much reason to be there.

A real bargain, 2011-01-23
Captain: , Wilson, NY (432)

Nice flating docks, a lounge with TV, laundry. One of the motel rooms converted for marina use, so the shower is there. Very nice and clean. Water is optional, don't pay if you don't use it. With our BoatUS discount we paid $.65/foot! plus $0.45 kW for electric. Seems secure, fenced, entry only through lobby. Security guard. We walked to the store, no porblem in the day.

Sunrise Resort and Marina, 2011-01-20
Captain: , Grand Haven, Mi (2283)

Sunrise Resort and Marina (Running Mon Marina) is a quaint no frills marina close to Freeport and lucaya. It is a good place to check through customs and immigration. We asked for 90 days and the immigration officer said how about 95 that is the most I can offer. The marina staff is very friendly and willing to help with any problems. The cost of dockage is VERY reasonable and with a Boat U/S discount is much cheaper than most marinas in the States. Fuel is available on site.
