Reviews for Sunbay Marina
Very friendly and helpful Management, 2016-03-27
Captain: , Bremen (234)

Spent one night in Sunbay Marina. Infrastructure is superb, marina is well organized. Unfortunatly limited space for Kats.

Beeing an SSCA Member I was treated like a king by Olga the owner of the place. She received some parcels for me and stored them, helped with all kind of great information and all that even when I was on anchorage in front of Marina Isleta. Never came across such a friendly and helpful person in a marina.

Clearly a five star place

Nice staff. Good place to leave your boat for a couple of weeks., 2016-03-17
Captain: , Lakeland (997)

The marina was safe and secure. Olga, who is also the SSCA host for the area, is so helpful! I was able to have work done on my Yamaha outboard while here. We left the boat for a couple of weeks in the marina. We have a 42' cat and took one of the catamaran slips. They are small, but we liked it better than being on the T-head. Restrooms are fine. Laundry is a long walk and the dryer didn't work well. We found there was a lot of growth on our bottom from 2-3 weeks here and lots of weeds in our raw water strainers upon departing. A pizza place with good pizza is a couple of blocks away. A litte further is a great Mexican place called The Blue Iguana. Rental car companies will pick you up and drop you off at the marina. Overall, highly recommended.

GREAT MARINA/MAINTENANCE STOP, 2016-02-15
Captain: , NORTH POLE ALASKA (20)

Olga and Carmen are two awesome ladies that are most accommodating. Marina is clean with non-floating cement docks in good condition. Included is electric, water, cable TV, and wifi. Fuel dock is easy access with good fuel prices. Laundry is half way out on fuel dock, far to walk from other docks with $2 per load. Dock carts are provided. Marina has easy access in and out with good water depth in channel. SSCA discount available for dockage.

Many friendly folks here and easy access to stores/sightseeing. Rental cars will pick you up at marina. Used PR Boatworks for a generator (electric) problem. Josue was one of the best technicians I have ever used. Also had my jib serviced at Fajardo Canvas and Sail. Heather and Ziggy took excellent care of me with prompt service and great labor rates.

I highly recommend this marina and these two businesses. I plan to return as our 2-week stay was most enjoyable.

Excellent stay. Recommendable, 2016-02-04
Captain: , Haarlem Netherlands AMEL 54 (402)

Stayed here again for Xmas 2015.

Left boat to fly to kids in Toronto. As always excellent marina with Olga and her staff very friendly and helpful. All speaking good English but for the boat boys (which is typical PR anyway as not many people speak English in PR). All very clean and very safe!
Had a very nice stay at the end of March. Excellent service. One does need a car (like most marinas) but this can, indeed, be easily arranged by the marina staff. The marina staff is very helpful. Made our stay a very pleasant one indeed.

Safe, protected, 2015-12-28
Captain: , city island (342)

kept our 47 ft boat there all last winter. confident that our boat was ok. others also kept an eye out, in addition to the security guard. Owner Very Nice. But don't complain, she doesn't take well to it.
Only one washer working, and no hot water. Wifi sporatic and weak. after hours, we found that no one speaks english, or admitted to it. Fuel dock and dock hands really nice. No tipping policy.Winds had kicked up and bow thruster not working, so coulnt gert into assigned slikp. So they let me keep boat at the end of the T dock. Not the very best place, as slightly exposed, but boat was fine all winter. Overall good value, especially compaured to gigantic Puerto del Rey.
Bonus: Enterprise rent a car can be rented by nearby El Conquistador Hotel. they will pick up and drop off. And, the hotel is fabulous, so while we picked up and rented car, we used the facility.

If you need a marina stop, this is it, 2015-04-13
Captain: , With the Winds Environmental Expedition Team (350)

Fantastic marina with laundry, good wifi, clean facilities (showers are cold but you can't complain). Pretty new spot so they also have a pump out. Olga is great, very helpful. Provided a nice area map and arranged a taxi ride for us to get around to the grocery and west marine. There are some cursory marine/dive shops within long walking distance (1-2 miles).
Approach to the marina might sound tricky but isn't.

secure quiet location, 2015-03-15
Captain: , Hampton, VA (2502)

We came in to clear customs and stayed 3 weeks. CBP partol boat on site. Great place to provision with easy proximity (with car) to Costco etc.

Staff very friendly and supportive, especially for SCCA members. Lots of marine related services in the area including West Marine. Good industrial base within easy driving distance for service and parts.

Great base to explore the Eastern half of Puerto Rico. Fantastic Island!

Surge can be an issue. Make sure you have good fenders. entrance depth is just under 6 ft. Tide varies by about 1 ft.

Well protected, 2015-01-18
Captain: , Charleston (162)

Good security and docks tucked behind sea wall made this pleasant place to stay. No waves and no wakes. Need a car to get much of anything. There is a good Chandlery (Skipper Shop) about 0.5 miles away but need car for groceries, restaurants, etc. Only disappointment was cold only showers. Staff very helpful. Marina is clean and well maintained. Plenty of safe parking. Electricity, water and WiFi all included.

Mixed Emotions, 2014-03-11
Captain: , Afton, MN (120)

Not because anything is lacking at Sumbay, but because we're afraid it will become so popular there may never be a transient slip available when we need one. CLEAN, QUIET, SECURE, FIRST CLASS DOCKS, WiFI, 4G CELL COVERAGE, FRIENDLY BOATERS, and OUTSTANDING STAFF... No wonder so many call this their home port!

Nice Facility and really nice people, 2014-02-21
Captain: , Portland, OR (716)

Spent three nights here. Wind was 10 to 20 knots out of the east and marina was very comfortable. People are very nice and facility is clean. Can walk to Skipper Shop from here. Volvo Penta supplier and repair is walking distance as well.

Marina sumamente recomendable.

Great facility at a great price., 2013-03-26
Captain: , Apollo Beach, FL (928)

You can tell from looking at the marina on a map that it does not have a lot of protection when winds are from the SE, especially on the end of the western docks. On the other hand this is a great place for provisioning and repairs and the marina staff and security is great. We left our boat for over 2 weeks and never worried about it. The local taxi service can take you shopping. The nearby (but not walking distance) Ralph's has great produce and prices almost as low as the Super Walmart 17 miles away. If you rent from Enterprise, be sure to rent from the office located at the El Conquistador Resort. The ride up there and a visit to the resort is a great way to spend a couple hours. The Skipper Shop is a well stocked chandlery and is 0.5 miles away. You will find the marina owner at the fuel dock or walking around as much as you will find him in the office. Staff is well trained and focused on customer service. Finally, the marina administrator is the SSCA host for Fajardo and members get a great discount on slip space, which includes water and electricity.
