Reviews for Sugarloaf Harbour Marina
Nice rest before the Canal, 2017-09-03
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (471)

This was a nice jumping off spot for transiting the Welland Canal. The staff was helpful and let me use their computer to print out our receipt for the Canal toll. Clean spacious bathrooms and showers

Best & Only Place to stage Welland Transit, 2017-08-28
Captain: , Cleveland, OH (174)

Nice protected harbor with adequate facilities.
But you can't beat the convenience!

So easy and quick to get to the pleasure craft check in docks at the south end of the Welland Canal.
Also easy to walk into town and get a good meal at the numerous restaurants. Staff recommended Smokin' Buddha and they were right! The food was different and delicious, and the experience unique.

nice and helpful people, 2017-08-25
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (829)

The marina staff was great. They took us to the grocery and hardware store for supplies and assisted with clearing customs and negotiating the welland locks.

Great Before or After the Locks, 2017-07-22
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (605)

Stopped for the night after passing through the locks. Very nice facilities and there are two large washing machines and dryers. Everyone is very friendly and the staff professional. We were at the end of the visitor dock with plenty of depth and the breakwater surrounding the marina stopped any wave action from the 15 to 20 knt. winds. I would not hesitate to return.

Perfect Place after the Welland Canal, 2017-07-08
Captain: , Sacramento, CA (372)

After an uneventful but exhausting trip through the Welland Canal, this marina was perfectly located and amenitized (if there is such a word). Easy to get to, staff was helpful with the dockage is strong winds, restrooms/showers were clean, restaurant on site. All was great.

Good Place to check in after crossing the lake, 2017-05-02
Captain: , Grand Haven, Michigan (230)

We overnighted from Cleveland, it was super gusty pulling into the Marina no help on the docks but we were early in the season... they have a phone to check into Canada from the states friendly staff nice showers easy 10-15 min walk to town

Just what I hoped for., 2016-09-21
Captain: , Cleveland, Ohio (130)

Friendly staff. Easy fueling and pump-out. Nice docks. Clean facilities. And, Port Colborne is fun too. Try the Smoking Buddha.

Obvious stop before or after the welland, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Catawba Island Ohio (530)

We have stopped here before a few years ago and then again now. the common denominators were that we got no docking help either time, both times we were told someone would meet us and they did not. This time we got fuel fiirst so they had plenty of time. Now the good; good docks, showers, bathrooms and restaurant over top. The indoor staff has always been nice. My sister lost a necklace in the bathroom, we called and they found it a few days later, called us and were sending it back to her. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO THIS STAFF MEMBER.

Super friendly place, 2016-08-04
Captain: , Racine Wisconsin (161)

Great people, very protected nice restaurant on premises. Plus walking distance to many restaurants and grocery. Must stay after transiting the Welland.

Always Enjoyable, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Erie, PA (160)

Have visited several times for weekend stopovers and for fuel coming/going from Welland Canal. Nice facilities, not too far from town. Most fun visits have been during Canal Days!

great marina, 2016-02-27
Captain: , Buffalo, NY (10)

I have been there several times and agree with most of what has been already said. By mid season it does get choked with weeds. More of an issue with sailboats. Better at the larger docks closer to the entrance. During "Canal Days" docks can be loud late into the night, but it's a fun time to visit with lots to do in town. If you have a bike you can easily get all over town. there is a paved bike path along the Welland that we enjoy. We also bike to Nickel Beach for a swim, but you could anchor your boat there. We always enjoy our time there, and plan to go back.

A near perfect experience, 2015-09-17
Captain: , Little River, SC (752)

Another beautiful marina on L. Erie. Spacious, clean, comfortable, not a thing to complain about. OK, if I really push it, maybe one - a bit of a walk to the dockhouse. But that's minor. Sugarloaf has an onsite restaurant and bar. Highly recommended by meself.

Stopped on the way to and from canal, 2015-09-09
Captain: , CURTICE (171)

Large commercial marina. Very clean and helpful staff. Easy entrance and docking

Wi-Fi is available but very slow and poor signal.

Fuel available.

20 minute walk into town, but staff will give you a ride and pick you up if you want.

Grocery store, restaurants and other general stores in town. Not much open on Sunday.

Would stop here again, although if only wanting a quick overnight after an easy day would stop at the free dock at the entrance to the canal. Despite information to the contrary, this dock is FREE and over night is allowed. No Toilets or Electricity though.

Nice Marina, 2015-07-28
Captain: , Petoskey MI (317)

We pulled in late after coming through the Welland. Great that dock staff stays until 9pm. Two staff took lines when we docked on the main center floating pier. Wifi worked fine. Restrooms immaculate. Good laundry room. Restaurant on site "so so".Our second night, the staff shuttled us downtown to the Canalside restaurant! Highly recommend this place. Owner and his wife super friendly. Great wait staff. Food very good and reasonably priced. Try the perch dinner!

In the morning of our departure, fueled up and got a pump out at 7:30. The two staff members did all the work-including filling our two fuel tanks at the same time.

We will definitely stay here again.

2015 stopped after locks, 2015-07-05
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

7/1/15 another great night here. On a 48 Sea Ray sedan bridge and had to dock on the furthest dock in the harbor. Dock hands were great. Was windy, lake was about 5' but got the lines when we touched the dock. Got ride into town for dinner... Cab back. Restroom facilities were great. High speed fuel fill at fuel dock. Took no time, good fuel. Agree.. They need to put in wifi remote antennas for better reception. Only could get a decent signal when in the office where I saw a 12" antenna. Lost a star for that.

Great facility but don't let the dock people fool you by saying that the restaurants are a short walk away. After giving us a ride, we decided that walking back was not an option. The cab was right there and they were great. We found out that we could have brought the boat around and docked right at the restaurant. Would go back there again.

Good location for Welland, 2015-06-10
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

We stayed the evening following our Welland transit. Good stop. Floating docks, good protection from Lake Erie waves.cost $1.60/ft. Have fuel and Pumpout we did not use. Don Cherry sports bar on premises. We enjoyed their food and view. Long walk from docks to marina office. Call them on ch 68 they don't monitor 16 or 14.
They offer a town shuttle till 9pm we did not use. Small boating supplies store at marina office. We found their wifi to be useless.
Town docks are much more convenient to the small downtown area.
We hired Roger St Amand 905-933-4146 as our Welland guide, he was excellent, charges $175 for the transit. As a retired canal employee he knows how to get you through the canal.

Arrived late, left early, 2015-05-24
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

5-22-15 Stayed here after canal transit. Plenty of water depth 10-12', power was ok, fresh water, $1.60 foot (canadian). Lots of help getting in and very cordial. Restaurant was ok.

May 2014
Went here as walls were full downtown, arrived at 11 PM and left at 5 AM. 10-12 feet of water all the way in and at dock, did not use any power, ran gen all night, docks were good, have previously been here and is good spot.

Great place to stay, friendly staff, 2013-08-07
Captain: , St. Catharines (498)

We arrived the Thursday before "Canal Days" without a reservation after a bad day out on Lake Erie. They managed to accomodate us without problems. The staff is really friendly and provided help getting our 44ft boat into a 35ft dock.
we had 30amp power and water without any problems. We stayed until Sunday. The on-site restaurant is good. All services are a short walk away. Nice friendly place. I'd stay there again.

Good Facility, 2013-08-02
Captain: , Britt, Ontario (711)

Good floating docks and excellent, clean facilities. It can be a very long walk to the marina building from the furthest docks. Town is an easy walk for groceries, drug store, etc. easy walk to Welland Canal.

A Great Place to Stop, 2013-06-17
Captain: , Midland Ontario (660)

We like this marina. Staff are friendly and helpful. Services include good showers, laundry, fuel, pump out and a restaurant on site. Lots of water in these days of low water and a good place to stage for the canal. Grocery and offsite restaurants are a 20 minute walk from the marina. Travelling west on the Cdn side Leamington was the next marina with transient space for a boat with our 6' draft (140 mi)

Helpful Staff, Some Good Facilities, 2013-06-14
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

We spent one night here after transiting the Welland Canal. It's easy to get to the fuel dock but the water around most piers is very shallow. The only docks that can handle 40+ foot boats are a very long walk from the office/heads/showers. The floating docks are very close to the water and a long step down from the boat. We needed to borrow a set of stairs to get on board!

There's a nice sports bar on site that served pretty good Lake Erie perch and traditional fish and chips.

The staff was very helpful and offered to drive us into town to a different restaurant and even offered to make a trip to get us some supplies but we didn't need to do that. The young dock attendants were pleasant and energetic but somewhat inexperienced.

The head and showers are in good shape.

All in all, not a bad place to stop.

Good stop before doing the Welland, 2012-07-25
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1541)

We stayed one night before transiting the Welland Canal. Good marina with helpful staff. Very weedy basin on approach to dock. The marina has two sets of washer/dryers, both quite new and worked well. Marina wi-fi was a bit fussy, but we did get it working. Marina staff offered us a ride to town if we needed it (we didn't). Nice place, they made us feel like they wanted to be sure we had a good stay. We'd return if ever in this area again.

Good marine store, 2012-03-02

Great marina for a stop over in the transit of the well and canal

Sugarloaf Harbor Marina, 2011-10-15
Captain: , Catawba Island, Ohio (160)

Nice marina with very nice floating docks. 50 amp or 30 amp. Quite a few weeds in among the docks. Long dock walk to marina. Nice baths. Can walk to town, but cab is better.

July 26th, 2011
Good depths, good floating docks, lots of weeds.
We stayed there for three days before we could start the Welland Canal. They gave me a great name of guy to assit going through the locks. The best advise as when we went the wind was very high and it made the trip streesfull. Good restauant and a marine store on the property.

Sugarloaf and Marlon Marina are now one: Sugarloaf, 2011-07-12
Captain: , Oriental, NC (1148)

This is a big marina:: 700 slips. It has water depths to 11 ft and can accomodate vessels over 100 ft. It has all the facilities needed for the cruiser. Marlon still exists as the repair facility and has haulout capabilities. There is a coutesy van into town which has a big super market and several good restaurants. Good place to stop in transit through the Welland Canal.

Walking distance to Acute Care facility, 2011-06-23
Captain: , Toronto (203)

This moderately priced ($1.50 per ft) marina is walking distance from an acute care facility (ie an emergency unit). The marina is well looked after, staff are pleasant and you can get a ride into town. On-site restaurant was a bit disappointing.

Excellent marina, 2011-02-03
Captain: , Titusville, FL, USA (411)

We were here in 2005 and had a great experience. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Piers and facilties were clean and neat. Piloting in the marina was relatively easy, although it is a large place and the other marina is right next door, so it could be confusing.

capt jeff, Spirit, seasonal, 2009-07-15

excellent rates, professionally managed, excellent floating docks, well protected, dock hands, free pump outs, security, fuel and canal nearby, close to town, one of the best managed marinas on the lakes and eastern seaboard
