Approach

The approach to the marina is quite difficult and can be tricky. The NOAA map is poorly detailed; also, after entering Porpoise Channel, the secondary channel directed to the marina is not marked with buoys. Avoid entrance at low tide and, possibly, wait for a local to exit the marina and follow his/her route.

Reviews for Stony Brook Yacht Club
lovely little place, 2016-07-23

Don't bother hailing them on the radio. It's broken. But just pull up to the courtesy dock and go find the dude. Reasonable rates. Probably busier when the restaurant is open. Channel is wicked and tricky, and they say don't try to enter within two hours of low tide.

Questioning the club for a 40' 5' draft I received the following
I am your contact person (Marie). We have a clubhouse & serve meals Wednesday thru Sunday. We also have a private beach w/showers & restrooms. The cost to stay is $4.50 per ft per day plus $15 electric. We can accommodate your size boat, our only problem is that you must come thru the channel 2 hours either side of HIGH tide or you may run aground. If you have any other questions, feel free to call me at 631-751-9873 Mon %u2013 Fri 9am to 4pm.

Wonderful Place, 2013-07-07
Captain: , Rye Boat Basin (407)

We spent a wonderful, quiet 4th of July at this Club. The transient slip is located at the Marina entrance, next to the gas station. Club members are very friendly, the facility is very well kept and the village is a small gem. The island in front of the marina is populated by birds and seagulls and visited only by some kayakers. The approach to the marina is quite difficult and can be tricky. NOAA map is poorly detailed; also, after entering Porpoise Channel, the secondary channel directed to the marina is not marked with buoys. Avoid entrance at low tide and, possibly, wait for a local to exit the marina and follow his/her route.
