Reviews for Stingray Point Boat Works
Sailboat help top notch here!, 2017-07-24
Captain: , Manitowoc (287)

Rick at Stingray KNOWS SAILING. He knows motor vessels too. He came out on a SATURDAY to help me with Plan B's halyard and sheet issues. His expertise was amazing and there was NO GUESSING as to the problem as he has working knowledge of sailing rope issues down pat.

He was fast and he took the time to explain and educate this Skipper as to what NOT to do going forward to prevent a recurrance. He explained things about my 32 year old vessel that the prior owner did not herself even know.

So if you need expertise and you are tired of paying for someone to try to figure it out...Come to Stingray and talk with Rick.

First Rate Yard, 2016-10-30
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (60)

We were here for three weeks doing several boat projects. Some we did (the yard has no problem with %u201Cself work%u201D) some the yard did and some were done by outside contractors. All outside contractors must be pre-approved by the yard, before beginning any work.

Their lift can accommodate a boat with a beam of up to 24%u2019. Important for us as we have a sailing catamaran. Rick, one of the owners, and his crew were all very nice, easy to work with and accommodating. Newer bath house with both heat and AC.
They have a loaner car which we used several times to run into town, which is a mile or so away. They also have a handful of some of the nicer loaner bikes we encountered.

There are a few little restaurants, in town, none of which deliver. There is also a large West Marine and a fantastic hardware store called Hurd%u2019s. It%u2019s a TrueValue, but very much a small-town hardware store with a bit of EVERYTHING, except groceries. If you need it they can and will get it for you. When you go there ask for Sam. He%u2019s an incredibly knowledgeable guy who will take the time to help you and explain anything you need help with.

We will certainly come back to Stingray Point Boat Works, whenever we%u2019re cruising in the area again and need any work done on the boat.

A GOOD PLACE TO BE, 2015-02-04
Captain: , Nyack, NY (646)

We spent two months on the boat in winter. Lee and his brothers (and staff) treat people as they would like to be treated, not as "Customers" or "ATMs." Mechanical problems on our way south brought us here. We bypassed many facilities on Chesepeake Bay on the recommendation of good friends in Deltaville, and by the AC sponsorship and your reviews. The yard is spacious and equipment is new and or well cared for. Prices are very reasonable and you can do your own work and stay on your boat. Outside contractors, only by agreement. If thier crew can do it, they will probably not let outside contractors do it. The heated bath house is clean and functional, although groundwater anywhere near the shore on the peninsula is salty. Deltaville is a boating center with a large West Marine and a well stocked independant hardwhere store. Lee loaned me his pick up many times for provisioning, and water runs from the fire station. I would not hesitate to use this yard again for projects, or recommend it for storage.

Don't know how they could be any better !!!, 2014-12-12
Captain: , Winterport, Me. (244)

We have kept C-Note here for many summers even before Lee and his crew arrived. We are snowbirds and have never had a second thougt about looking for another yard. I just don't know how you could beat this place. They go out of their way to accomodate us in every way from good advice to doing top notch work at reasonable rates. When anyone asks me about boat storage I don't hesatate to recomend SPBW and hope I have steered some business Lee's way, they have earned it by the way they have treated us!!! All the staff are super friendly and make us very comfortable and feel right at home here and now with the new heated bath house and laundry facillities I just can't see how it can get any better, but I am sure Lee will find a way to improve even more !! Keep up the excellant work !!!

OK for DIY, Problematic Service, 2014-12-09
Captain: , Colorado (411)

I left my boat at this yard hoping to get a number of items taken care of while I was away. Work was slow to complete and actual charges were 50 to 100% higher than estimates. Plumbing work done leaked and additional damage adjacent to work areas were found. The fiberglass guy did decent work and I have no experience with their mechanic so can't comment on his abilities.

The yard has mostly 15 amp service (bring a long extension cord). The water in the yard is unpotable, somewhat better in the bathhouse (although it is still salty). Most people go to the well at the fire station for drinkable water. Storage rates are reasonable at $100/mo for standard boats and $200/mo for wide beam boats.

OK yard for DIY work where you are staying with this boat during the work. Definitely do not recommend having work done when you are not there to supervise.

Very flexible, very helpful and knowledgeable!, 2014-07-09

This place is great! We have our first "boat project" here. We are DIY and beginners. I have spent a lot of time surfing the internet and talking to boaters and asking stores/suppliers to find out how best to restore our boat. The best advise I have gotton is from Lee and his crew. In the past year I have seen several boats painted by SPBW and I have been surprised at how perfect and new they turn out. I have had great help with lifting out my engine and taking down the mast. I asked them to put our catamaran on stands high enough for me to take the centerboards out and they did. The work I have had done by them has been at great rates and done well. I read a lot of forums about people feeling cheated and unhappy with this and that from boat repair facilities. I tried it myself in Maryland where we took over our boat. I can't say how positively surprised I was when I started working with SPBW towards getting our boat sailing again. With the new bath house and laundry on site, the only thing I miss from the marina is having the boat in the water!

Great boat yard!, 2014-04-27
Captain: , Etna Wyoming (20)

We have Hauled and stored several times here and will again. Lee & staff have done a great job since they bought it and always help in anyway needed. They have added new shower faciliteis, new travellift and well, The yard is undergoing a makeover (gravel, elec, water) and new docks to come soon. Only draw back is no potable water in the yard, but the fire dept has a community spigot out front not far away.

Always Pleased with the High Quality of Service and Workmanship, 2013-10-10
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (20)

I have been bringing my boat to SPBW for a few years now and have always been happy with their technical expertise and quality workmanship. I highly recommend SPBW to any sailor needing electrical/mechanical work; prices are fair and work is done in a timely manner.

Outstanding, 2013-04-11

Lee and his crew do great work. They also allow DIY work as well. Best yard in Deltaville for DIY folks hands down.

Highly recommended., 2013-03-01

Good, solid mechanical help. Eager to provide aid to boaters, local and transient. Travel lift on site.

Good folks to work with, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (197)

Lee and his people are very friendly and accomadating. They even moved the boat of a client of mine 8 miles for no charge as he was going to store the boat at their facility. That is service! They have just added a brand new bath house for DIY owners.

Great place to haul out & do repairs - cheapest rates in the area., 2012-06-23
Captain: , Gloucester, Va (222)

We had our old boat hauled out & repaired here, when it was owned by Shroeder in 2010. They had the best rates in the area, did the work on time & under budget. This is usually not the case when dealing with marinas. Its really not a place I would want to stay in for transient dockage, etc. It is really a repair yard, with competent mechanic & fiberglass repair techs. Over winter dry dock rates are reasonable here.

Not Shroeder's anymore, 2011-02-16
Captain: , Urbanna Va (10)

Shroeder's has been taken over by the Farinholts of Chesapeake Marine Railway

Small, friendly and very reasonable price., 2010-01-30
Captain: , England (411)

We searched the area for the cheapest place to leave our boat. This was it. But to our surprise it was also very friendly and relaxed. The only yard that allowed us to live aboard and work on our boat when we wanted for no extra charge. There are also mechanics, painters etc in the yard for work you cant do yourself. The easy going and relaxed attitude can sometimes be too relaxed if you are in a hurry, so try not to be. The low price is balanced with low facilities, only a porta-loo on site, use the yacht club wash room a short walk away and the tap water is not suitable for drinking or putting in water tanks due to the high sulphur content.
