***************NOTICE***************

Hurricane Matthew caused significant damage to several of our dock systems. Three of our four T-heads were destroyed in the storm, along with other slips. As the marina was still recovering from a microburst in July which damaged eight slips, we now have 20 slips less. This is about a 10% decrease in our total slip count. Due to this unfortunate circumstance, St. Johns Yacht Harbor is limited to the number of guest boats that we can accept at this time. We have restored a handful of slips, but still have plenty of repair work ahead.

We will graciously offer our shore amenities (fuel, water, bathrooms, showers and courtesy car) for those that may choose to anchor off the marina and come in to the marina by tender. We hope to be fully restored by spring 2017.

Slip into something spectacular! St. Johns Yacht Harbor welcomes all boaters traveling through the area to Charleston's best kept secret! We offer the lowest pricing on transient dockage, plus save even more with 25% off with your BoatUS card. $0.05 per gallon fuel discount with BoatUS card. Ethanol-free gas and diesel. Free dockside pump-outs. Beautiful amenities including excellent floating docks, first-class bathrooms and showers, knowledgeable dockhands, courtesy car, free Wi-Fi and laundry facilities. Please note that with increased occupancy, St. Johns Yacht Harbor's transient capabilities are limited. To insure availability, please call ahead to secure dockage reservations.

The marina no longer operates a restaurant on site. However, there are numerous dining options within minutes of the marina via our courtesy car.

Reviews for St Johns Yacht Harbor
Gracious While Repairs Underway, 2016-11-03
Captain: , Essex, CT (1151)

Our past stays were great! Unfortunately several docks were damaged during Matthew so they have very few transient docks until repairs are completed. However they have earned our appreciation due to their offer of FREE services if you anchor off and come in by dinghy. Bathrooms, laundry, water and even their courtesy car! Several grocery stores are nearby and with their generous 2 hours, you can even drive to the Firefly Distillery on Wadmalaw Island - highly recommended!!

Some real positives, but also some shortcomings, 2016-04-26
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1120)

April 2016 update: on-site restaurant is now closed since bridge washed out. Even more isolated than before.

Very nice floating docks in excellent condition. Amazing bath/shower areas, proably the best we've ever experienced. And a courtesy car (indispensable here) provided. The negatives: Charleston is so close, but so far away! And the Stono river current can make landing a challenge unless you're assigned a spot on the face dock (we weren't). If you come here intending to see Charleston, plan to stay a few days and arrange for a rental car.

Spectacular Marina, 2016-04-18
Captain: , Chattanooga (220)

Absolutely the nicest bath facilities I have ever seen in a Marina. Dockhand named "E" was prompt, friendly and helpful. Don't expect easy access to Charleston, but it is a very nice Marina for traversing the ICW!

First class Marina, 2016-04-16
Captain: , Britt, Ontario (691)

A little out of town but very nice facilities and they do have a courtesy car that you can use for two hours. The t-heads are out in the current, it is much calmer if you will fit and ask for a slip. Really clean washrooms and laundry ($1 each for wash/dry).

nice but isolated, 2016-04-04
Captain: , Louisville, KY (347)

For being so close to Charleston, it is away from everything. Loaner car was a pleasant surprise; most are beaters, this one was quite nice. Tattoed Moose restaurant a couple of miles away has lots of character, and good food with a large selection of draft beers. speciality is duck club sandwich, and is VERY good.

Exceptionally nice and new docks, facilities, and staff, 2016-04-02
Captain: , Moyock, NC (984)

This marina offers a weekly rate and readily available courtsey car. It is a great place and good stay over. We've been here 4-5 times for a day, a couple of days, and twice on the weekly rate. This time it surprised me that we needed to stay over a day, due to questionable weather, and they would not extend the weekly rate for the extra day. Every marina that we've encountered always extends the longer period rate if you need to stay over an additional day due to weather, unless they are short on transient spaces. However, they did allow a slight discount on the daily rate.

It's a short drive to many store on and close to John's Island. Be certain to see the 1400 year old Angle Oak tree. Carta bus #31 back to a shopping center prior to the last bridge to John's Island for $2 and then took a taxi for another $14 to travel the remaining short distance back to the marina. New nice materials and very clean facilities' laundry cost is $1 per wash or dry. The restaurant and bar is closed until a road bridge is repaired. The surrounding and nicely landscaped area is a great place to walk and walk pets.

amazing staff, 2016-03-28
Captain: , Galesville, MD (441)

Beau and the staff are amazing. Always helpful even dealing with the bridge issues. Best place to stay in Charleston. Heads and laundry are clean and well maintained.

Awesome place. Pleasant and friendly. , 2016-02-04
Captain: , southport nc (30)

Great place. Dock master "E" was knowledgable and helpful even after a recent "unpleasant experience with a drifter". As a local put it. The whole staff was helpful and very pleasant. Offered me a loaner car to buy a fire extinguisher. Even after I told them it seemed stupid to loan a car to a stranger. I will stop here again. I need to say more good things, but I hate typing. Thanks.

Very Nice Marina , 2015-12-09
Captain: , Southport, ME, USA (1158)

Friendly competent staff. Floating docks in good condition. Very nice rest rooms, showers and laundry. A bit out of the way, but they have a car you can take for 2 hours.

Excellent Facility in the Midst of Nothing, 2015-11-26
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (450)

Stayed overnight with no real expectation of anything nearby, but there is literally nothing nearby except one restaurant that was essentially empty because the access bridge has collapsed. Seems like more than a mile of dock/boardwalk which was good for taking a walk, but led only to the remote parking lot. Many liveaboards in this "condominiumized" marina. Bet it's hopping in season - but right now, not so much. Really kinda boring.

Really Great Experience, 2015-11-25
Captain: , Oriental, NC (160)

We were "stuck" here for 5 days during the flooding and rain event this Fall (2015). The power never went out, the Wi-Fi worked, cable worked and they had a courtesy car. The facility is well maintained.Best of all they have a great staff that treated us and everyone else great. The restaurant and bar onsite is a real plus and it was open for dinner throughout. Several weeks later we stayed here again and had the same great experience. Access from ICW is very easy and you avoid the hassle of Charleston. This is the old Buzzards Roost marina.

We made a quick stop here for fuel. The guys were great and they filled our water , pumped out our holding tanks, took our trash and let us use the showers which were the best since Annapolis. All of that for no extra charge. They also gave us a Boat US discount on the fuel. We tipped the guys and will definitely stop here again

"E", the assistant dock master, and his staff are great. They gave gone out of their way to help might a stay great

After a very long day, a bit frustrating, 2015-11-09
Captain: , Edgewood, RI (117)

By phone, we were advised that our slip would be a length in excess of our LOA, and it would be our choice regarding bow or stern in. Exhausted, I chose the easy route, bow in. Once in the slip, with the help of some fine dock hands, we found that the slip length included a short finger and a lot of water to a piling. Our bow had to be brought forward, hanging over the main dock to allow us to step onto the finger. Would have worked better with better description of the dock when we called. Good stop for an overnight.

Quality service, 2015-11-08

Limped into this marina with raw water pump issue. Bill Chamberlain (Manager) and his staff made our stay very pleasant and the over all facility was found to be very clean and appropriate for our needs.

Some great, some not, 2015-11-03
Captain: , Baltimore (419)

We stopped at St. Johns Yacht Harbor for a night while moving south for the winter. The docks are very nice - concrete floating docks that are very well lit. The marina staff are very helpful and professional.

The items that were just not five star were wifi internet, the resturant, the fuel dock, and local services. The wifi internet was setup very professional with time limited login and multiple access points. Unfortunately, the service was extemely slow. The resturant was not open, just the bar with very limited menu - not even a hamburger. The hotdogs were surprisingly good. The fuel dock can be a bit tricky to get in/out of. The staff commented that they are hoping to move it out on a face dock, because there have been several boat to boat accidents from boats leaving the fuel dock in current and being pushed into boats on the lifts to starboard. Last, the marina is away from Charleston and there is nothing within walking distance.

Best of Both Worlds, 2015-10-25
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2997)

We're back again and still love being here. Yes, they had a "mishap" with the bridge but that just meant we got to walk along the beautiful boardwalk with the dogs. The staff is always friendly and helpful and the grounds are pleasant. A good stop that we look forward to visiting again.

2014-04-30:
St Johns Yacht Harbor offers you a terrific alternative in Charleston. The marina is located in a quiet location away from the noise and crowds of Charleston. Yet with the use of their convenient courtesy car you can dine out, explore the city, and even provision the galley. There seem to be lots of friendly liveaboards making it have a community feel.

The docks are well maintained floating docks which the dogs love. The rest of the facilities are truly lovely and well maintained. And the icing on the cake is the wonderful, friendly staff. Stop being the little guy on the mega-dock. Come to a marina that is happy to see you and will treat you right.

Friendly, helpful staff, 2015-10-24
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6484)

Lots of help with dock lines in a strong current. Free in-slip pump out. Exceptionally roomy & clean restroom / showers. Very sturdy docks. Nothing in walking distance, but we were offered ride to nearby Food Lion. Good area to walk your dog.

On site restaurant stuggling due to access bridge collaspe. Long walk from parking lot to marina and restaurant. Bridge collapse causes little grief to transients unless someone coming to marina to meet them.

REAL FRIENDLY, 2015-10-19
Captain: , Charleston, SC (110)

I likes it. I does, I does.

Difficult situation, 2015-09-12
Captain: , Kent Island (40)

Marina continues to be one of the best facilities in Charleston area, especially if you seldom plan to go ashore. The access bridge has collapsed, requiring a long walk to a nearby parking facility. As of now, no solution is in sight. On site bar is suffering. Great overnight just off the ICW. Fairly strong current and lots of boat wakes, especially on weekends.

CBest place, 2015-08-06
Captain: , New Bern (318)

It's all by its lonseome at the end of a point overlooking the Stono River. Currents can be swift as with anywhere in So SC low country but reliatvely cool and no bugs in early Aug. New courtesy car with access to grocery, including Publix across bridge.

Great local transient/liveaboard community. 5-star showers.

Enjoyed two nights.

Excellent Harbour, 2015-07-16
Captain: , Norfolk (20)

Stopped here heading south. The staff and amenities are top notch. Best place I have stopped so far.

Still a terrific spot, but there are serious problems with the bridge, 2015-07-12
Captain: , Bayfield, WI and the ICW (1279)

This place has new docks, swimming pool, spotless facilities, laundry, great staff and tenants and a beautiful new marina courtesy car. The access to Charleston is easily available with the courtesy car, but faster by dinghying into the Charleston City Marina, paying $5 to stay at their dock and then hop on the free purple trolley to downtown. This is quiet, safe and a beautiful spot to stay for a night or season. But on July 2, the bridge from the marina to the street collapsed. This could cause you some access problems.

Great spot on the Stono River, close to ICW, 2015-06-27
Captain: , Onset, MA (90)

Much quieter spot than the municipal marina. Staff very accomodating-- Jessie was great. Beautiful lounge, pool, outdoor grill area. Bar and restaurant-- the Stono Breeze-- on site. Didn't go but it was very popular.

Nice Marina just off the ICW, 2015-06-12
Captain: , Sunbury, Ga (352)

Friendly staff met us at the dock to help us tie up. Very clean restrooms. Courtesy car available for 2 hours. Didn't get a chance to use their nice pool, darn it. T heads are a very long walk to showers and restrooms.

St. John's Yacht Harbor, 2015-05-18
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1156)

Great marina with friendly staff, floating docks, bar/restaurant, pool, and good wi-fi.

Picked the wrong inlet to go into, BUT..., 2015-04-26
Captain: , Rochester Hills, MI (20)

We were running low on fuel and went into the Stono Inlet by mistake. Fortunately we ended up at this marina and fueled up and spent the night in one of their scarcely available slips. The next day, after working with their excellent crew and harbor master, we hung up the boat keys and will be here for quite a while. This place is amazing! The facility and crew are beyond compare. The crew is extremely vigilant and are always ready to assist boaters with whatever they need.

5 Star Facility, 2015-04-19
Captain: , Austin, TX (867)

Excellent facility, super clean restrooms and showers, friendly and helpful staff, Thanks to James and Beau. Swimming pool, too cold to use, restaurant on site, $1.00 washers and dryers (4). We rented a car to take to downtown Charleston from Enterprise. We also used the marinas loaner car, the nicest car we have had for a loaner. Facility is easy in and out, especially at slack tide. We will definitely stop here again.

Very nice marina, 2015-03-20
Captain: , Sunset Beach, NC (1124)

This would be 5 stars if there were more protection from wind and current. That said, once we entered the fairway, we found that the high wind was dimished somewhat by all of the other boats. Wind can be a problem for our boat and we backed in nicely on a day with 15+ knot winds from the East, which is abeam when you're trying to dock. Like I said, once we entered the fairway the wind was negligable so I only had the current to deal with and it runs nearly parallel with the slips.

Nicest showers I've seen in any marina, period.

Huge discount with BoatUS makes this the cheapest place around here for daily or monthly rates.

Lots of live aboards make this a nice and easy going community. Nice people and very dog friendly.

We'll definitely stay here again when in the area.

Overnight Stay, 2015-01-22
Captain: , wilmington nc (30)

James the dock master very nice and professional was a great big help guiding us in. thank you will be back.

Not impressed, 2014-12-28
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (640)

Professional help in tying up. Less than attentive to needs after tying up. Not impressed with their attention to my needs but faciliteis were very nice. Wifi worked but they did not say how to get to hooked up easily. When I called them to help they said, our IT dept works that. Not something that impressed me. I will probably not come back.

11/23/2014 Awesome Place, 2014-11-23
Captain: , Kuttawa Kentucky (410)

Spent the night here due to bad weather. Jessie met us at the dock.. Tricky to park due to high currents. Ended up on T dock at the end of E dock. Short walk to showers that are amazing. Used courtesy car for provisions. Walmart 6.6 miles away. Waited 2 hours for courtesy car because someone had it out. Call ahead if you need car to know when it is available. Restaurant closed at Marina.. Nice floating docks. WiFi is strong and fast even at the end of E dock.

Nice facility with friendly liveaboards, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Annapolis (213)

Kept the boat here a week while I flew back home. Liveaboards came out to help me dock when I came in late at night. Staff was friendly and helpful. Docks are A1, as are bathrooms. It's not close to anything in walking distance, but I look forward to coming back.

True five star, 2014-11-04
Captain: , Port Aransas (992)

We spent two months here, September and October, 2014. The floating docks are in top notch condition and lie with the current fore and aft, making entry and exit much easier considering the currents typical of this area.

The staff are very laid back but pay attention to the boater's needs. They can often be seen roaming the docks tidying lines and checking on things.

The facilities are second to none we've seen in over 2000 miles. There are plenty of stalls in the shower rooms and they are kept meticulously clean and gleaming. The laundry room is clean and has four washers/dryers for $1 each per load... and they work!

There is a loaner car with generous terms and a Food Lion right down the road with very low prices as compared to Publix. You're 15 minutes from Charleston proper and West Marine. There is also a hardware store on Johns Island nearby.

In the warmer months, the pool is a welcome oasis. The on-site restaurant closed as of Labor Day 2014. Hopefully it will reopen at some point because it would have been a nice perk.

Wi-fi is free and although it isn't the swiftest, they are working on improvements. There is a really nice community room upstairs and the views from the porch there are great.

The people make this place one step better, from staff to local liveaboards. Everyone was more than nice. We will keep this one on the top of our list and wholeheartedly recommend it to all.

Quiet convenient stop just outside of Charleston, 2014-10-29
Captain: , Fort Pierce, Florida (60)

Great accommodations, friendly and capable staff, reasonable rates, huge and clean laundry and shower facilities. There are strong currents in this area but plenty of space in the fairways. We encountered no problems due to current, although this was reported by other cruisers. Great marina for pet owners with nice large wooded areas for walking dogs. Located in pristine marsh land location with long, beautiful and under-used boardwalks. Fabulous pool and deck for cruisers. Short cab ride to Charleston, or short ride to local restaurants as well. The Stono Breeze restaurant was closed, but we understand is due to open in early 2015. There seem to be quite a few live-a board folks at this marina.

Great Pleace in Charleston, 2014-10-18
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (180)

12 OCT 2014- We came back for one night on our trip south. We were at St Johns Yacht Harbor from January to April 2014. It was a nice place to stay. The bathrooms were clean and they have a loaner car. The staff is nice and friendly. They were always there if you needed something. This will be on our list of marinas to use again.

4 Months on the dock, 2014-10-17
Captain: , Everett, WA. (20)

We planned on spending 1 month at 4 different marinas waiting for our insurance to allow us to head south. Ended up staying here for 4 months. Great price with 25% discount. Very helpful staff. They pumped out our boat every week or so w/o being asked. Loaner car was great and almost always available. Locals very friendly. Pool was wonderful on all those hot days. Free coffee in the morning. Too bad the restaurant/ bar closed part way through the season. $1 laundry and the facilities were very well kept. Fast current was a small inconvenience but weekend traffic on the Stono kept us rolling. Great experience overall. Would recommend this place for any extended stay.

OK Marina & convenient, 2014-10-06
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Everbody raves about the docks while I did not think they were bad I did not think they were exceptional. Docked on t-head of last dock to bridge and lowest depth we saw at low was 15 feet. Plenty of water on approach. Electric power was good and price was fair with Boat US discount of 25% came to about $1.50 a foot including electric. Loaner car to go get pizza. Convenient to ICW, would return. Was here night of 10-5-14. Very swift current when tide is running.

FIRST TIME, PROBABLY LAST, 2014-09-21
Captain: , Hampton, VA (321)

On a southbound delivery with owners aboard. Wanted to get south of Wappo Bridge and this marina stuck out as a very nice place...and it could be.
Good: Nice floating docks, friendly staff and tenants, nice bathrooms.
Bads: restaurant closed (not noted on web site or mentioned during phone contact) and courtesy car cannot be used after hours to go to a restaurant. LOTS of pretty "well used" boats taking advantage of inexpensive slips. Makes an otherwise very good looking marina look pretty run down.
Oh yea, one liveaboard let their dog poop right on the dock and didn't clean it up.

They saved my boat, 2014-09-18
Captain: , Southport NC (10)

unknowingly I was taking on water and luckily stopped for gas at the Marina. While filling up, my boat (49 Gulfstar) started listing. Jesse a staff member jumped on the boat and found water in my engine room up to my waist. Within minutes I had 6 people with additional pumps helping to get the water out. After about a half hour we had the water down and found the leak. Bill the owner of the Marina was in the water helping me plug the leak from the shaft intake. The entire crew was outstanding. Without their help, my boat (now my home) would have sunk. They were the best. I will definitely stop by whenever I pass through again. Did I mention, they didn't charge me a dime. (i did tip the crew).

Top Class Marina, 2014-09-09
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (61)

We had a hard time getting through the Folley Bridge and the cut through. Once through it you have to make a turn to the left to get to this Marina. We made a mistake and went further which grounded us. We had the Marina on Radio and phone. The Staff was just excellent. They waited as long as they could and told us where to park after we got ungrounded. The only problem I had is the current is very fast moving in this area and I was trying to Dock at night. Sea Tow assisted us and the man in the neighboring boat came out to help us get into the slip. Once there we had all the hook ups and checked in the Office in the morning. You could not ask for a better Staff. Very respectful and kind. We had boat issues and had to spend 4 months there. They gave us discounts on fees that they didn't have to. I'm a Veteran and it was important for me to get to the VA in Charleston. They had a Vehicle ready upon request. We used it a lot. During the 4 months we had left somewhere in the middle of it and the boat had machanical issues where Seatow had to bring us back. The Facility itself is state of the art. Laundry and showers are kept very clean and handicap accessable. They have pump out right at your slip from a pump out boat. They also had the fuel station infront of the office, but I have to tell you I didn't go there to fuel up because the currents are very tricky and fast. During that time we spent, I only seen 3 boats crash tryiing to get in. But that's not the Marina's fault. I not as good a Sailor to navigate to the pumps under those comditions. There are some many Pros to stay there it would be impossible to list them all. only other thing that was bad was the internet connection were slow or dropped carrier. Could of been our Laptops, I don't know. The wifi is right on the Docks. Would I stay there again? YES. Pets are very welcome and they have stations where you can get doggy bags for poops. Not all people use them, which I found annoying. Great place, beautiful with a lot of nice people.

Good facility, about it., 2014-08-24
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

I guess we caught the marina staff on a bad day upon arriving 5/20/2014 for a three night stay, especially after reading the previous reviews. Two miles from the marina we tried reaching the marina first by VHF, then phone, with no response. We proceeded until the marina in front of us and after doing a couple of 360's in the river (with major flood tide) finally raised a girl who attempted to talk us into the fairway and slip assignment. Two high school girls met us at the dock and had no clue how to retrieve lines being tossed, finally slammed into the dock (she tied line when only halfway into slip) and secured. Not a good first impression, then while standing around the marina office looking for someone to wait on us, the guy fishing off the store deck finally put his pole down and took care of business, strike two. Courtesy cars??? they mentioned these, and said come back later because he didn't know anything about that. Fortunately, Enterprise was still running their $10/day weekend specials, so we weren't stranded. Strike three. Reason for only three stars, as most everyone has mentioned the facilities are in good shape and the price was right.

Warning: You will not want to leave this marina, 2014-07-17
Captain: , St Pete Beach, Florida (256)

We%u2019ve been here four weeks and just extended another two weeks. St. Johns is so much more than a marina; it%u2019s a neighborhood. The inhabitants include artists and poets, dogs and cats, young and old. The parrot on the boat across from ours whistles out songs and does a pretty good imitation of a rooster, but only when she%u2019s in the mood. It%u2019s a wonder that the staff are always cheerful and enthusiastic even in the wilting mid day heat. Other reviewers have exclaimed the clean, cool showers and laundry room (complete with two ironing boards and irons), and I concur. We availed ourselves of the grill at the pool and the happy hour and sandwiches at the Stono Breeze.
We rented a car from Hertz and explored the greater Charleston area. Start at the visitor%u2019s center where you can board a van or horse drawn carriage. There are also free trolleys. I highly recommend a historic walking tour. Don%u2019t miss the old Customs House where three signers of the Declaration of Independence were imprisoned by the British and George Washington danced in the ballroom. Outside the City are many plantations, the only tea plantation in North America and the very fun Firefly distillery%u2019s tasting room.
The cuisine in Charleston is world class, and there are some excellent restaurants nearby, although you need a car to get to them. I have the sense that one or more marina residents would provide transportation if asked. Our favorite is the Wild Olive for a special dinner. Lunch favorites are Crust (pizza) and General%u2019s Kitchen (the best bean burger ever). On nearby James Island are Earth Fare (organic and specialty), as well as Harris Teeter and Publix.
Folly Beach fishing pier is popular and we learned a lot from the fisherman there. Beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented there. The James Island County Park is 600 acres of trails, dog park, water splash area, campground, RV park and playground. Bikes can be rented and there are four miles of paved trails.

Outstanding Marina, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (706)

We loved this marina. The facilities are incredibly nice, air-conditioned, they even have irons and ironing boards in the air-conditioned laundry area. Best bath/shower facilities I've ever seen!!! Pool is great and Stono Bar is fun too. Stayed longer than we planned, it was so nice!! Also, easiest to plan to come through Charleston on a weekend to avoid the bridge openings on their "quirky schedules" and the shallow areas that you need to be at high tide.

Great spot and Great people, 2014-07-12
Captain: , palm harbor (160)

We spent the last month at SJYH. We got there on June 13 and after making reservation and calling beforehand it seems as though someone put a boat in our slip. We tied up to the face dock but was not too happy as there is a lot of boat traffic out there and no wake protection. We were bounced around so much that we left for home early.
I made known my displeasure about being on the face and they found me a spot inside. My friend who lives in Charleston moved the boat inside for me. We returned and truly enjoyed our stay. The showers/bathrooms are spotless and kept nice and cool. There is a nice pool and a good bar at the Stono Breeze. The staff are fantastic and after a couple of days you feel like part of the marina family. We met a lot of other liveaboards among them Freddie and Will. They are two great guys and I recommend finding them when you show up. A definite stop for us when we head north.

One note, make sure you clean your strainers often as the sea lice are abundant.

good stop over vers charlston, 2014-06-16
Captain: , Port Arthur, Tx (476)

price is right current was tough at the time we docked but staff was great helping with tie up. arrived on monday to find bar closed but that is ok schedule posted on door.

Great times here, 2014-06-07
Captain: , catskill (290)

Good price, free loaner car, friendly staff, docks in great shape. We left very happy!

Excellent Choice!, 2014-05-19
Captain: , St. Louis (340)

We stopped because, frankly, it was less expensive than other marinas in the Charleston area and had good reviews. So glad we did because it is a well run marina. The manager made time just to chat and the local tenants were friendly. Laundry is clean and very reasonable, with good machines. Showers were spacious and clean. Only negative was the wakes on the T-Heads where they put transients. Of course we were there on a weekend and the marina can't change discourteous boater's manners.

Good Alternative, 2014-05-12
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

St Johns is a good alternative to the City Marina. St Johns appreciates you and welcomes you. The facility is clean, the Staff is friendless and the showers are phenomenal. We were visiting a friend who lives on Folly Beach so we did not have to use the loaner car to get into town, but it's available. If I could change one thing, I wood lobby City Hall to make the area in front of the marina an idle speed only, no wake zone. The boaters are not as friendly as the Staff.

Definitely a good stop, 2014-05-05
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

We pulled in here last night after a long day on the ICW.
All the marinas in Charleston were full and this marina was able to fit us in at a much better rate with Boat US discount for $1.35 ft.
The wind and current made our docking a little interesting and the passing swells were rough until the evening, but the docks are floating and sturdy.
The marina has 4 washers and 4 dryers at $1.00 per load charge - great deal. The on site bathrooms looked great but did not use.
The marina also has an on site restaurant and pool, the food was very good and well priced.
Would have stayed longer but needed to get north but will definitely stop there again.

St. John's Yacht Marina, 2014-05-03
Captain: , Sandwich (692)

Just south of Charleston off ICW. Stono River has swift current. Floating docks make for easy docking. Bath/Shower area quite nice and kept fairly clean. Very busy on weekends. Pool area adjacent to outdoor pub. Access to courtesy car makes for easy run to Food Lion.

finest marina in over 3,000 miles, 2014-04-28
Captain: , Newark DE (110)

This marina had everything you would need in a marina. Very nice loaner car, not a beater. Clean bathrooms and laundry. Friendly, helpful staff. Pump out boat that comes to your slip. Bar/restaurant on site. The only downside is there is no place to walk to. Easy in and out right off the ICW.

Great Marina, 2014-04-23
Captain: , Eau Gallie, Florida (140)

This marina has it all. The floating docks, laundry, showers, swimming pool and Stono Breeze bar are all first class. What makes this an exceptional marina are the people. From our first day to our last day we felt right at home.

Excellent Marina, 2014-04-23
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

Good staff, fair price, good courtesy car, outstanding shower facilities. I endorse the previous comments.

One of the best on the ICW, 2014-04-19
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (5686)

I've been cruising the ICW for the last four years from Poughkeepsie, NY to Key West. This is one of the few truly 5 star marinas. To achieve such a rating in my view they must offer a courtesy car, cable TV, docks in excellent condition, reliable internet service, excellent washers and dryers at a reasonable price and good showers along with outstanding service by the dock hands - all at a reasonable price for dockage. St. John's Yacht Harbor exceeded requirements on all counts!

Very, very few marinas meet all of the above requirement!s Less than five come to mind, at most. As a plus you have all of Charleston to explore in the courtesy car, hard to beat.

Great welcome on short notice, 2014-04-14
Captain: , oscoda, michigan (183)

Inspite of calling late just outside the marina, we were welcomed. Only one person on duty (Jamie?) but he managed to round up a crew of 4 to catch the boat in strong winds and current. Then invited us to an opening season BBQ!

Also within dinghy distance of city dock in Chareston so we saw the city from here.

GREAT PLACE, 2014-04-13
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (361)

All previous reviews are accurate.
Very nice place, helpful staff, nicest bathrooms/showers we have seen in a marina and 25% Boat US discount.
We will certainly return here if ever in this area again.
The current was swift when we docked but Joe got us tied up easily. Very competent!

First Class, 2014-03-27
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

Stopped for fuel and pumpout on 3-24-14. It was very windy, a strong current was running but dockhands are very proficient and were especially helpful. They even asked my plan to depart the dock so that they could provide the most help. Now that's impressive!
The restrooms and showers at St John's will rival the best country clubs for cleanliness, condition, and decor.
I can't comment on other amenities but I bet they are as first class as the crew working here.
Highly recommend!

Great facility, 2014-03-12
Captain: , HOLLY RIDGE NC (120)

Very nice. Clean facilities, like new. Large shower and bath facilities. Pleasant staff. Strong current and exposed to wind.

great stop, 2014-02-06
Captain: , Carolina Beach, NC (378)

Stopped again at St John's. They have baathroom/shower facilities among the BEST on the ICW from Norfolk to Palm Beach! Their laundry facilities are right up there too! If you don't just have to see Charleston, stop here. Boat US discount and a great dock crew. They now have a courtesy car so that you can go to the store.

Stay at St. Johns Yacht Harbor Marina, 2014-01-24
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (110)

Great place to stop on my way south to Florida ! Beau Anderson, Dock Master, was most accomodating. Not only the facilities were great but the staff was helpfull, friendly, and most capable. Bathroom facilities were one of the best I have seen in over 25 years of boating. Had a loner car in excellent condition, not your normal clunker that other facilities have.

I had to leave the boat at the marina for two months due to business travel. The boat was in great hands.

I had to take the boat to a yard form some work (Ross Marine), and the marina made sure I had a spot to bring it back to when I finished.

Again, due to work travel, I had to change plans. Beau worked with me to make sure that I only paid for the time I was there. I could not ask for more.

The town near by, James Island and Charleston, met all needs. Fantastic place to kick back and enjoy.

Plan to stay there on my way back north in the spring.

A great place to stay., 2014-01-22
Captain: , Shelburne, VT (120)

We enjoyed our November month long stay at St Johns. Beau and his crew were very helpful at the docks the store with the car and getting us to the airport. Although not near downtown the difference in price allowed us to rent a car for the month and see much more of SC. As stated bathroom and showers are amazingly clean and spacious. We will stop here whenever in the area.

A must stop on the ICW, 2014-01-10
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (10)

This is our third full length trip of the ICW and as far as marinas go, it doesn't get any better than this. These folks deserve your business.

Wonderful Surprise Spot, 2014-01-08
Captain: , Islamorada, FL (42)

We were looking for a spot in the Charleston Area for Christmas stop. Daughter flying in from New England. Nothing in downtown Charleston sounded very welcoming or safe. Decided Christmas day probably wouldn't be good for site seeing so explanded our search. Found St. John's Yacht Harbor and what a treat. Very nice facilities and the staff could not be more helpful. The courtesy car waqs a big help for shopping and a trip to Charleston would be very easy from here. The frosting on the cake was the price with the Boat US discount.
Found St. Joh

Best marina!, 2013-12-02
Captain: , Ft. Myers Fl (230)

Wi fi has been fixed, great rates, clean and new bathrooms and showers. dockhand Joe was very helpful. Don't let his youthful appearance fool you, he knows whT he is doing and made sure we were secure and set after a long day cruising. I will recommend this place to anyone in the charleston area.

Great Stop, 2013-10-17
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay MD (495)

stopped for gas and what a great place!!

Great dock hands and has pool and bar - Can't wait to come back!!

One of the Best, 2013-09-25
Captain: , Lizella GA (1414)

Found this place when I needed fuel before entering Wapoo Cut. Everything about this marina is 5 star except for the current which can make docking a little hairy. The marina head and shower areas are the best I have ever seen. The staff are top notch. I will stop here again.

What a gem, 2013-08-03
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1520)

Had always passed this one by, won't do that again. Beau and staff very helpful and friendly. There can be some current getting in so be cautious. Once here all 5 star, baths, pool, and the best loaner car we have encountered ever, almost new, not someone's leftover. Can't wait to come back and stay a few days.

New and facilities including pool great, 2013-06-26
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach (20)

Nicest marina on my trip from fort Myers Fl to Long Island

Recent Visit, 2013-06-03
Captain: , Charleston, SC (22)

Went to St. Johns this weekend for lunch. A great little place with excellent service and dock hands.

Great Stop, 2013-04-25
Captain: , Mystic, CT (211)

We were unable to make it to the bridge before 4 PM so we needed to find a place for a couple of nights. It seems that the marinas in Charleston were booked for the period of time we had.
The St Johns yachat harbor was a great find. The staff are very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. They even drove us into Charleston in their courtesy car. I would definitly stay here again.

Really Great Except for the Arrival, 2013-03-29
Captain: , Annapolis (424)

Probably the nicest marina we've encountered on this trip. Great docks, buildings, outstanding heads/showers and a restaurant/bar onsite.

There is a high highway bridge nearby but noise was not offensive. The site is not easy walking distance to much but supposedly a loaner car is available which we didn't use.

The arrival was marred by the dockhand trying to put us in a slip that was too narrow. With the current this was a little interesting. We ended up on the T dock where they didn't put us the first time as we said we needed 30 amps but failed to mention that we had a 50 to 30 adapter. The T docks only have 50 amps.

Other than that a great place for a stopover.

Great ICW stop - Rick & Margi Decatur Looper's (Stafford, VA), 2013-02-28
Captain: , Stafford, VA (148)

We stayed here two nights. We would definately come back again. We agree with all other reviews on restroom, laundry facilites and staff being great. The only down side is no courtesy car or full restaurant. For us this was not a problem. Joe was our dockhand and he was very knowlegeable, helpful and polite.

Very Nice Marina if you can't get closer to Charleston, 2012-11-25
Captain: , Warwick, RI (43)

We arrive with 3 other vessels on Nov 23rd (Black Friday) to Alex greeting us with a smile at the t-docks to help us tie off. This is primarily a live-aboard marina, so t-dockage is offered to transients. The facility is very clean, with ample private showers/changing rooms, toilet rooms, and a vey nice laundry facility complete with irons and ironing boards. Washer/dryers $1.00/each. Beautiful wide floating dock, nicely lite, (and T-docks offer 50 amp service only- our party used the Marina's 2 loaner service plugs) Residents very friendly and hospitable and take good care of their surroundings; Christmas lights adorn their vessels too!

We wanted to tour Charleston for the day, were referred to Enterprise but they were sold out for the weekend. We contacted "Limo's for Less Charleston"(tel:(843)965-5466) got a pick up, quick tour of downtown to get our bearings, and return home when we were ready for $142 including tip; most reasonable for 4 couples to split and hassle free.

Would definitely stop here again but call Enterprise in advance for a car if you want to get into Charleston around the holidays!

Great alternative to Megadocks, 2012-11-21
Captain: , Eastport, MD (491)

Not as pricey, and much, much nicer head & laundry facilities. For the difference in price get a rental car. Staff was great - dock hand was competent and very patient as I backed in slowly against the current. We were planning on a rental car anyway to visit family for Thanksgiving, but will consider coming here again even if not travelling anywhere outside the Charleston area.

Much Better Than City Marina, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Poquoson, VA (94)

We stayed here for several months during hurricane season. Marina has best laundry & bathroom/shower facilities I have seen. Staff is incredibly helpful & responsive. Vistas are nice of marsh from B dock. Restaurant is pretty much a bar with some typical bar type food items, sandwiches, salads. A fair number of liveaboards who are very friendly folks. All in all, I would definitely stay again. The only issue is the distance from downtown Charleston. There are two fantastic restaurants within 2 miles of the marina, 'The Wild Olive' and 'The Fat Hen'. There is a Food Lion closer than the restaurants and a liquor store next to it. West Marine, however, is further, on the mainland.

Very Clean, 2012-10-14
Captain: , Sodus Point, NY (688)

We stayed here for almost 2 weeks and enjoyed the marina facilities and people. Very friendly environment. You need transportation to get to the city, but it looks like all of the marinas closer to Charleston have the same problem. Yellow Taxi to downtown is $15-$17. We rented a car and toured all of the sights. The cost savinges here (especially with Boat US discount), justify the transportation expense. Will stay here again.

Only Shortfall is Out-of-the-Way Location, 2012-07-04
Captain: , Charleston, SC (422)

Great marina! Staff ready to assist as we came in. Boat US discount saved us on dockage. Pool, very clean/new showers. Tide runs at a good clip so need to take into account when approaching especially with a single screw. Had to pull out a 50amp adaptor to hook up my 30amp cord. Only food is an outside restaurant which can be brutal in summer. Docks are wide and in near-new condition, very clean, great spot

St. John's Yacht Harbor, 2012-05-07
Captain: , Charleston SC (10)

Prety upscale. Very attentive staff. Competitave rates.

St. John's Yacht Harbour, 2012-05-04
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

Excellent facility with floating docks. Somewhat short finger piers. Strong ebb and floood currents through the basin. Attractive pricing for the area; slip discount with BoatUS; better than average diesel price with BoatUS. Excellent washer/dryers at $1.00 per load. Excellent washroom facilities. Small ship's store. No courtesy car, but staff will take you to local stores.

Excellent alternative to crowded Charleston marinas, 2012-05-02
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (631)

We stayed there in August 2011. After many scary landings in 3 different Charleston marinas, we were looking for something more easily approachable and we found it. Staff gave clear directions on the radio and our tie-up to the face dock was painless. The swimming pool was clean, the bathrooms and laundry were spotless, and the bar/restaurant was better than expected. The price was very reasonable for dockage and for food. We'll be back.

First class marina., 2012-04-14
Captain: , prospect, ky (405)

I left my boat here for two weeks while I went home; returned to find all just fine. The docks are very new and nice. Be careful of the current here. Set good spring lines. Showers and laundry are the nicest I have ever seen. The restaurant is very nice but really only bar food when I visited. Staff very friendly. BoatUS discount.

Hot & Cold, Never on Sunday, 2012-01-23
Captain: , Pinnacle, NC, USA (1340)

Iimaculate bath & showers and a good fuel price countered by a Sunday crew of nonchalant youths.
Fueled up and stayed the night tied up to T-head nearest mid channel with up to a normal 2kts tidal current. Fender well and set those spring lines!

Nice stop close to Charleston, 2011-11-18
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

Stayed here one night 11/14/11. Nice floating docks and restrooms. Restaurant slated to reopen the weekend of 11/19/11. Nice staff - very laid back place.

Only bad thing was we were told to come in to the face dock with a starboard tie - which was WITH the current. I will trust myself next time instead of the dockperson although I thought someone working there would know the best way for approach for that particular marina. Not so much. Overall, a good stop close to Charleston at a reasonable price.

VERY nice facility, 2011-10-23
Captain: , Dover DE (228)

VERY Clean facilities, ice docks, showers, laundry and nice pool. Easy to dock with lot's of space. Fuel price was $3.81 today + additional Boat US discount! Will use this marina anytime we're in Charleston area! Dock was $1.30/ft. Weekly rates available.

Great accomodations, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Charleston, SC (80)

We took our boat over in May to spend a night at St. Johns for a wedding next door. The facilities are fantastic and the service is wonderful. Cleanest and nicest rest rooms, showers and laundry room that I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend it

Great stop short of CHS, 2011-05-29
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3048)

Great docks, swimming pool for the summer season. Not primarily a transient marina but a good place for we travelers and I am sure they appreciate the revenue. The pool is great and there is a BBQ there for grilling.

Good alternative to CHS marinas, 2011-05-09
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (450)

While northbound and enroute to the CHS, we saw St. John's Yacht Harbor and found it in the Active Captain. After a long day on the water, this peaceful and quiet place is like a bit of heaven. The dockhand was out to meet and help us out and the Boat US discount was good. You will be isolated from CHS, so if you want to tour the city, St. John's would not be for you and there was a current on the face dock. We are very happy here, though.

Great Stop, 2011-04-30
Captain: , Marathon, FL (458)

We stayed here for a month and it is a beautiful well-cared for marina with the most beautiful bathrooms along the coast. The downside is that it is a number of miles to Charleston so, if you need to tour the city, you would need transportation.

Nice stopove but remote..., 2011-04-18
Captain: , North Carolina (344)

Nice place to stop for a night or two. Marina is remote and you need to use taxi to get to stores, restaurants, or West Marine.

Staff was very helpful. They were willing to assist when we needed to secure the boat and leave for a family emergency.

In windy conditions, the marina gets pretty rough.

Renovated and very nice, 2011-03-23
Captain: , Charleston, SC (23)

We stopped for fuel and ate at the new restaraunt. No charge for dockage when eating and gasoline is ETHANOL FREE. Friendly staff and nice looking, brand new docks. Will visit again.

A Great Stop Along The Way, 2010-12-21
Captain: , Detroit, MI (160)

A very convenient, modern and beautiful marina. There is an elevated walkway that is the perfect place to watch the wild life in the surrounding marsh. Pretty decent ship store, great bath/showers and laundry facilities that rival one at home. We have been traveling for a long time and this is the first laundry facility that I have seen that provides irons and an ironing board! The staff is friendly and knowledgable. Will definitely visit again.

Must Stop, if do not need tourism, 2010-10-15
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

This place is a gem. Great price with the BOATUS discount. No wakes/little current versus the crazy Charleston Harbor (which used to be our home port). Do not stay in Charleston, if all you want is a place for the night, or to wait out weather. Can go to sea from here, versus Charleston Harbor.

Nice alternative to downtown Charleston marinas, 2009-11-12
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

Marina is located about 1 mile from Elliots Cut on the Stono River. Friendly staff; attractive and very clean marina. T heads and large slips available. Great diesel price in Nov. 09. Marina is in a remote area, but they offer a car and driver for local shopping. No wind protection and no restaurant on premises yet otherwise I would rate this facility 5 stars.

Excellent Marina near ICW, 2009-08-19
Captain: , Charleston, SC (215)

New docks with power, cable TV, water hookups. Friendly staff - easy to work with. Pumpout boat. Slightly remote from amenities (shopping and restaurants). Small ships store. Fuel dock open, gas and diesel available.

Web site is misleading, 2009-04-14
Captain: , Stuart, FL (426)

They show a pool and many other amenities that aren't yet built. The web site indicates they are. Make sure you call before you go since the web site is not completly honest.
