Approach

Call Harbour control just as you enter. They will direct you to an available space. Rafting up is common here so that is also a possibility. Might even be better because you will not have to fender off the wharf. You still have to pay.

Reviews for St John's Public Wharf
No floating docks, 2016-10-25
Captain: , Portugal Cove (30)

The floating docks are no longer there, they were removed for construction. The only place to tie up is Pier 6 (wharf) with is rubber tires hanging from the wharf. Space on pier 6 is limited, so you best call before you get there otherwise there may not be a place to tie up. Larger boats and ships are common place and rafting up to most of these larger vessels is impractical. There is electrical and fresh water at pier 6.

The Geo Center and the Rooms Museum are highly recommended, 2014-08-19

Floating docks in a nice park. Walk to cafes and the Crow's Nest historic Officers Club, walk to the Rooms Museum-great restaurant there and view of the city, walk to the Geo center for geology and Titanic exhibits. Mitey Whites laundry nearby. Nominal dockage fee was $50 for 5 nights. There is some noise from the supply boats loading but the oil industry is revitalizing this city. Interesting gift shops, pubs with local music, coffee shops, parks, small quality grocery stores nearby. The locals are very helpful and welcoming. We stayed 9 nights in August 2014. Good Bell Telus signals at the docks for our international ipad plan.

Very interesting town, 2012-10-17

Great hiking possibilities. Visit the nearby touris info office for free hiking guides. It really is spectacular. Lots of bars & restaurants very close by. The only negative is the condition of the wharf and trying not to get your boat messed up rubbing on the tires. I would probably try to raft up next time to get a "floating dock" that I could fender effectiely.
