Reviews for Spanish Municipal Marina
Nice, a bit strange, 2016-08-12
Captain: , Port of Toronto (296)

The marina is about 2 kilometers from the town of Spanish with supplies including a food store restaurants and a liquor store. Marina services include great showers, a busy laundry and a suana ($) gas, diesel and pumpout are available at the dock.

The thing that made me mark it down from a four star was a strange experience at the fuel dock. We were refused service because we didn't have a reservation. I'd never heard of that at a fuel dock. I always make reservations for a slip, dinner or a doctor but I found it very strange they would refuse us service. Canadian marinas monitor channel 68

Comfortable stopover, 2016-07-03
Captain: , Naples, FL (682)

This marina is modern and well managed. Staff are responsive to phone and VHF calls and will assist with docking.
Entry to the marina is easy but involves a sharp left turn from the channel and then a hard right to the fuel dock and day dock. With water levels 32 ins above datum during our visit we had 9ft depth in the channel and 8ft at the day dock, where we stayed overnight.
The marina facilities double as a community centre. Heads and showers are in the locker room style, well mainteained and with plenty of hot water. Laundry has six large washers and six large driers. The complex also has a reading/TV lounge and a small fitness centre both available to transiients during business hours (0800-200). Wifi is good.
The town is two km away and easily walkable but there isn't much there to warrant the walk. The view from the platform onthe cliff above the marina (via stairs from the marina) is worthwhile.
Update on departure 01 Jul 2016: There were spots in the channel where water depth was 7.5 ft

Nice Marina, 2015-09-10
Captain: , Milwaukee, WI (358)

Stayed here twice in August 2015. With water 2 feet above datum, we saw no less than 7.5 feet in the channel... no problem for our 6 foot draft. Shallowest water was at the channel entrance by the westernmost two pairs of channel buoys.

Facilities are nice... very nice bathrooms, showers, and laundry is cheaper here than Little Current. Pretty walk up the steps by the windmill to overlook the marina and Spanish River delta. I like the service dock (esp. pump out) better here than Wally's in Little Current.

Groceries in town are fairly limited, so not a great provisioning stop.

Spanish Rocks, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Spanish ON (30)

Well as a seasonal boater here I can tell you that Spanish is working hard to improve. The dredging and higher water levels are making a huge difference with an average depth of 6+ feet coming in the main channel. I find the staff pleasent and helpful and easy to deal with. The docks are nice and clean and sheltered very nicely. The fuel here is not high test but is good. Also just up the river a little bit is Alamenera En El Rio. Just talk to Russel or Jean and they can fix you up with anything you may need.

Excellent facility staff and village, 2015-01-14
Captain: , Port Elgin, ON Canada (20)

The channel has been dredged to 6 ft. min. The staff are excellent . The showers and laundry are excellent. The town has restaurants, food, liquor and a boat gear stores...prices are quite fair. It's a mile away but there are 2 uber style taxi vans on call.

Spanish Municipal Marina, 2014-08-01
Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

Narrow channel on approach, stay inside the markers. Good deep water harbour, nice showers and clean washrooms. 20 minute walk to provisioning. Pump outs, fuel, water available. Friendly staff.

Spanish Municipal Marina, 2014-07-02
Captain: , Port Franks (176)

Nice facility and clean. Channel is well marked and the shallowest I saw was 6'. We went fishing in the dinghy and found it to be quite shallow outside, so stay inside the markers.

Good Marina that's Close to the Action, 2013-08-15
Captain: , Portage Indiana (503)

Nice facilities, helpful staff and great location. They had 2 dredges working on the channel when we were there the first week of August 2013 and are hoping for a busy 2014 season because of their efforts. The grocery store is a long walk from the marina so try to get a ride if you can. LCBO near grocery store. We found the groceries to be priced nicely compared to other reprovisioning stops in the NC. Hike the trail behind the marina and start your cruise with a bowl full of wild blueberries. Also a telescope at the top of the hill to survey the Whalesback channel

If you are trailering this is a great choice for starting your cruise. The launch is steep and deep with a long dock to tie to while rigging/loading your boat. Recommend using a second bow eye strap when pulling your boat out because of the steepness of the ramp. Had a friend break 2 bow straps in a row here. Plenty of parking for your truck/trailer while you're out cruising

The Dixie Lee chicken in town provides what might have been the biggest/best breakfast I've ever had, and Lucky's snack shop is a do not miss if you like poutine style fries

Captain: , World (1151)

The channel approach is shallow and we were seeing 1.5 - 0.7m all the way in...

The staff were friendly and there is someone to drive you into town for supplies... We found everything we were looking for...

There are some fairly big power cruisers docked in the marina, so am not sure if they know of a better way in, rather than the channel...

There was a strong west wind when we were there and you can reallly get pinned to the wall...

Entrance Channel Caution, 2012-07-29
Captain: , Thames River Yacht Club (94)

In July of 2012 I tried to enter the Spanish Marina and did not make it to the 2nd set of bouys. I draw 4'6". I had to anchor and dinghy in.
Hope they are able to dredge the channel for next season

Spanish Municipal, 2011-07-20
Captain: , Port Sheldon, MI (131)

We have (when we trailered) trailered into Spanish for years. This in a great little marina and an excellent spot to start your North Channel cruise. The ramp is steep but very good, the docks and facilities are very well maintained. Showers, laundry, small essentials store w/ charts bug spray & hats.

We typically backed to the right side of the ramp for rigging, being sure to leave room for cars to come & go. The staff is friendly and quick to lend an expierenced hand. The Trailer Sailors often launch here for their annual cruise, awesome bunch but best to avoid their launch/haul schedule if possible. Be sure to get your parking pass and ask where they'd like you to park.

For larger vessels (which we now are :) be sure to follow the marked channel, no short cuts! Vessels drawing more than 7' call for current conditions, all others no troubles at all.

The town of spanish is a little ways away and services are a slightly limited. But there's enough there to get you through an emergency situation; Auto parts, beverages, restaurants and a variety store.

Trailer Sailor Launch, 2010-03-16
Captain: , Rockford, IL (614)

This is an outstanding spot to start your trailer sailor adventure. Friendly staff, easy to use ramp and it puts you in the heart of the North Channel. Ask the staff where to park while you rig, space is somewhat limited.

Spanish Marina, 2009-09-30
Captain: , AuGres, Mi (37)

This marina is often passed by because of the low water. We draw 5'6" and never had a problem getting in. It has silty bottom due to the Serpent River. Very nice building that has showers, laundry and lounge. Short walk ito town for supplies. Store will bring you back for a tip.
