Reviews for Southport Marina
Beautiful Marina, friendly staff, 2016-10-25
Captain: , Marina del Rey (60)

I came into Southport Marina on a Saturday afternoon after a couple long days on the ICW after Hurricane Matthew. They had a slip for me for 1 night. However, on my way in, I discovered a badly leaking stuffing box, and Zimmerman's couldn't get a mechanic to me until Monday. The marina made arrangements so I could stay until I got repaired. Nice people. Clean restrooms and showers. Nice facilitied. Good floating docks. Only complaint is their pump out service isn't working, and apparently hasn't been for some time. They need to get that fixed!

Weather and Navigation Briefs are in full swing, 2016-10-24
Captain: , Southport, NC (168)

There's been a little confusion about whether we are doing the briefs this season due to a previous review incorrectly assuming they were no longer being provided. The briefs started on Oct 20th and are scheduled to run through 15 December. I look forward to seeing you here in Southport. Hank

Outstanding Marina!, 2016-09-18
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

This is a must stop when transitiing the ICW. The folks could not be nicer. Please sure to check out the free 6pm seminar from Hank at Carolina Yacht Care. He is very impressive. Spend some time here and explore Southport.

Nice Marina...But no Hank, 2016-09-12
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (100)

We were really looking forward to attending Hank's ICW presentation but we were told he stopped doing them a little while ago. Not sure if that means he stopped for the season, but it felt like he will no longer do the presentation.

Zimmerman marine over-the-top service, 2016-08-17

top notch Marina , 2016-07-06
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, Fl (280)

Safe Returns. 65 ft Fairline Squadon

Very well run Marina. The share the area with Zimmerman Marine. The docks are really the nicest we've seen. Very clean. The worker that fuel the boats are very very curtious. It's Always sir or ma'am as the case may be. Dock Master Eric King runs a very nice operation!! We will be back on the way south.

Southport Marina Review, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Southport (10)

Great Marina with very attentive staff. The only complaints is they do not have a pool and the pump out service has been down for several weeks. I'd like to see them stock the dock house with more items eliminating the need to go into town. Overall, a great Marina.

Good but not best, 2016-06-08
Captain: , Palm City (40)

As everyone else has said Hank does a great presentation and provides invaluable service.
However marina staff does not always know details of where and how long you can stay. Verify all reservations. Also, boats can play loud music and if you are their neighbor you can do nothing.
They charge $10 a day for rental car parking so be aware of that.
Many restaurants nearby.

How did this marina get marina of the year?, 2016-06-02
Captain: , Atlantic City, NJ (20)

While on a delivery from RI to Fl, we stopped at the Southport Marina to refuel. It was drizzling on and off. We were told where to dock for diesel. No help with the dock lines. A young lady with pretty pink boots finally came out. She pulled out some of the fuel hose, and left the nozzle in the pump and told us that the pump was ready just get the nozzle. She then went back into the office. We had to pull out additional hose ourselves to reach the 2nd tank. Still no help from the employees.
I have been to this marina dozens of times and usually had a pleasurable experience, but not this time.

Excellent Marina ... plus daily weather and navigation briefings for cruisers!, 2016-05-27
Captain: , Bayfield, Wisconsin, Lake Superior (10)

We found the Southport marina to be clean, efficient, and very well run in addition its location within easy walking distance of the town's many attractions and restaurants. We stopped there to pick up a FedEx package we had asked be sent there, but beyond the FedEx pickup were more than happy we made the stop.

Why so happy? We found that beyond its typical marina offerings, Southport provides an extremely helpful service to cruisers ...Hank Hank Pomeranz' daily weather and cruiser briefings. Hank keeps up on ICW status both north and south of Southport, plus offers a comprehensive daily weather briefing, all with extesie handouts. As a professional meterologist in his prior life, Hank's weather briefings are outstanding and comprehensive. Since we were heading offshore from there to go around Cape Fear, Cape Lookout, and Cape Hatteras to Norfolk, Hank even offered to provide us a quick update on any changes in weather outlook via email to our SatPhone email address while we were underway. He's the best.

A few other marinas along the route arrange cruiser gatherings and/or provide welcome packets with some useful information, but Southport provides a service of much more tangible value ... Hank's daily weather and ICW briefings. Don't this miss this stop on your way north or south, inside or outside.

great Marina-ICW BRIEF A MUST, 2016-05-18
Captain: , Racine Wisconsin (161)

We have been here two nights. The marina is great the staff is very nice and it is very close walking distance to town and restaurants.

A gentleman by the name of Hank Pomerantz generously gives his time and energy to prepare very thorough analysis of the upcoming weather and conditions of the ICW. It is well worth your time. Thank you Hank!

Nice Place, 2016-05-17
Captain: , Miami (20)

Reading previous reviews indicate that the facility is excellent and that the dock hands are good at what they do. The marina is right off the Atlantic and close to the ICW which is really opportune, particularly for the sailing crowd. I have not had the opportunity to rest my boat here, but visiting the marina in person revealed that it is indeed a very nice marina, and all of the staff are quite accomodating.

the north bound brief, excellen, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Pensacola, Florida (90)

southport marina is a great stop, very clean and a very helpful staff. lots of restaurants and shops nearby. the very best thing about the marina is they support Hank Pomranz and his nightly brief about weather and the north bound trip between Southport and Norfolk. would stay here again.

The Place to Stay, 2016-05-12
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

if you want a marina with all the amenities. Easy walking to everything. Worth the high price.

Great stay, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay (62)

Outstanding stay. Excellent help from the dock staff tying up. Safe, secure spot, just off the ICW and near the inlet. Easy walk to a nice downtown. The facilities are first class. The evening talks by Hank regarding the ICW are outstanding - this is a fantastic service.

Great place to stop, 2016-04-28
Captain: , Bedford, NH (625)

Staying just one night, 4/28/16. Fuel dock a little bouncy from the ICW traffic, but good help from dock hands. Much better at slip. Although the staff was very helpful and friendly, we never heard about an ICW lecture and we didn't receive any packet of info. Walk to town is not bad. I have difficulty walking distances and was able to do it. Mr P's restaurant is a must. Great food and reasonably priced. Would stay here again.

Great marina - Helpful staff and ICW seminar outstanding, 2016-04-17
Captain: , Annapolis MD (210)

Right off the ICW, this marina is a must stop for boats going north in the spring and south in the fall. Great facilities and skilled staff. Highlight is the ICW seminar given every evening by Hank Pomeranz outlining all the problem areas along the ICW and how to traverse them.

Great stopping place, 2016-04-12
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (140)

Stopped here on 4/11/16 for one night. Had 2 dockhands assist in tying us up and they did an excellent job. Got us into a tight spot on the inside of the fuel dock with no problems. Marina staff is very friendly and helpful, plus the package of info they give to transients answers just about every question you might have. A number of restaurants are within easy walking distance. Highly recommend the Provisioning Company. Lots of locals eat there. The town has lots of charm and historic homes dating back to the late 1700's. Very peaceful but with lots of things to see and do. Would definitely stop here again.

wakes are terrible, 2016-03-31
Captain: , new bern, NC (100)

Do not let dock master put you on exposed face dock. Wakes from passing boats are terrible. Asked about moving into a slip. Dock master had lots of slips on the inside. Seemed to have no interest in moving us. Not worth the price charged to rock & roll.

Good stop for visit to Southport, 2016-02-10
Captain: , Bear, DE (390)

Floating docks, well protected and easy in and out from the ICW. Easy access to fuel and pump out. Hank Pomeranz did a superb weather briefing for those headed southbound on the ICW. The briefing is in the evening during the fall migration south.

Convenient to downtown Southport and its many shops. Restaurants within easy walking distance. Mr. P%u2019s was particularly noteworthy as the food was superb and reasonably priced. We also ate at Fishy Fishy which provides both indoor and outdoor dining. I highly recommend this marina. We will definitely return for the town%u2019s charm and fine marina.

Great Marina and fun Town, 2016-01-22
Captain: , Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732 (190)

Arrived about 11/4 in rain marina staff helped with fueling, pumpout and docking. Easy spot off the ICW and close to town. Zimmerman's is first class and Hank Pomeranz nightly 1800 classes are worth the stop. Town is close by and lots of fun stuff to see and do. We found several music spots.

Fantastic Marina, 2015-12-09
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (150)

Stayed at Southport Marina on 25 Nov while heading south. Easy in and out. Fantastic team on the dock to help with all matters. Attended the Captain's Briefing from Hank Pomerantz at Carolina Yacht Care. This is an INCREDIBLY valuable service that should be continuously offered at the marina. The depth of information and updates on weather, issues on the waterway, etc. is spectacular. Hank took a lot of time to walk through different scenarios with us as we were facing bad weather offshore and full moon with very low tides. His insights lead us to change our plans for the onward voyage. A great marina we will visit again and a great service from Hank we will attend whenever offered.

Great place to stop, 2015-11-12
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario (90)

Southport Marina, coupled with Zimmerman Marine and Carolina Yacht Care offers a great combination of services. Stayed here 11 and 12 Nov and used all three.

Wx and Nav Briefing A Plus, 2015-11-02
Captain: , Charleston (55)

There is a daily wx and nav briefing at 1800 during the fall season. Hank, with Carolina Yacht Services does the briefing. Covers southbound issues. Very helpful. Keep offering this service!

Easy in Easy out, 2015-10-26
Captain: , Mystic CT (130)

Nice Marina - walking distance to several good restauarants. Town appears to be pleasant. Would return.

Great Facility & People Too, 2015-10-11
Captain: , Washington DC (312)

Update: The manager did reach out to in an effort to address my concerns. Update: Shiine coming off? We have stayed with Southport Marina on several occasions previosly. Sadly our recent experience was not as swell. I tired out the online reservation form. After a couple of days not hearing anything I called and was disconnected during the transfer to the dockmaster. I called back and got through to Abbey. I asked about coming in for a "few" days. Not knowing the day I was requesting was duing a local event I was told they were not accepting reservations and the next sound I heard was click. No"we are booked until Monday" nothing. This situation gave me the motivation to look around and found a competitor with 5 stars that saved us enough money to get a car for our entire stay. The down side is missing out on Hank Palmeraise ICW discussions. Too bad because we really like the place.

This is a very well kept facility with an enthusiastic crew. Need we say more? Ok, Chris on the dock was knowledgeable there whenever we needed anything. Cute little town with nice restaurants. The only "challenge" is lack of full service grocery walking distance. We did see a Marina shuttle PARKED it would be great to add grocery run on some very limited schedule! There is a weather and navigation briefing every evening at 1800 which was fun and VERY informative. We will be back!

it is the little things that can ruin your stay, 2015-10-11
Captain: , Longboat Key (110)

We had stayed one winter at Southport Marina and really enjoyed it and the town. As a result we were looking forward to our visit here as a transient. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by changes in attitudes of the people working at the dock. We needed fuel and it appears that all boaters in all situations are given the same docking isntructions. In our case it meant dragging the fuel hose across the boat and doing a subsequent tight turn to get to our slip and switching the dock lines and fenders for an opposite side tie. It was unnecessary. As well, we were placed on a dock in a situation that was difficult to get out of with a sailboat and had to argue with the dockhands about it in the morning. Their attitude was surly. That, coupled with a single female shower for the entire marina and no ready access to food shopping and no courtesy car for a marine this size makes this a less desirable place for a transient. There was a loud party set up by slip holders on the access to the dock that blocked the route to the shower buidling. They did not move when I tried to get through which was disappointing to have to trip over chairs to get to and from the boat. Paying top price to have this kind of experience ensures I will look elsewhere on my next trip through Southport. Very disppointing for what was a nice marina. Locals still serves a great breakfast!

Wake disturbance, lack of power outlets, 2015-09-30
Captain: , Seven Oaks, South Carolina (185)

This is my first stop here, and we found it nearly full (fishing contest scheduled). We had to move the boat to reach a power pedestal as there didn't seem to be enough, though in fairness they are full and may have put us in an irregular spot. We had a lot of rocking from the wakes of passing boats.

First Class All The Way, 2015-09-22
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (622)

This is a first class operation. Everything is commercial grade, relatively new and clean and in good repair. The grounds are beautifully landscaped.

It's not too long a walk to town and it's an interesting town to visit.

Yes, more showers would be nice. That's about the only fault I can find. I didn't have to wait but my wife did.

Nice marina but needs facilities, 2015-09-13
Captain: , Catawba Island, OH (523)

Stayed here several times in the last year. Nice docks and nice folks. Bathrooms recently redone, but still inadequate for the number of boats in the marina. Only 1 shower in the womens bath room. Laundry room is nasty. Convenient to downtown Southport, but you really need a car to get to grocery stores. Many other marinas have a loaner car and that would be a good addition here. Bathrooms need professional cleaning and expanded facilties.

Nice marina, good wifi, 2015-08-18
Captain: , Newport Beach, CA (360)

Nice marina. Close to town and restaurants. Good WIFI. Close to ICW. $1.95/foot is kind of pricy, but it's a nice stop.

Great location in a cool old town, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Honolulu (531)

Stayed 7/24-26, $1.95 foot. Great location in old town of Southport, walking distance to great restaurants, museums, shopping.

Good marina, but, 2015-08-05
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (185)

The docks are in good shape but only partially shielded from wakes on the ICW. The dock staff is adequate but no more. The check in process is sketchy, I didn't get a key card for the heads till I asked for one the next morning. Heads and showers are a bit of a trek from the docks. WiFi not adequate for the modern cruiser. In short, it is a good marina but not a $1.95 a foot marina.

First Class facility, 2015-07-06
Captain: , Little River SC (365)

As stated, get on the inside of the face dock. There is a lot of traffic just outside the entrance which is open to the face dock. Dockhands are excellent and the town is a short walk. I would give it 5 stars but the restroom and showers are a little far away.

Just off the ICW, 2015-06-04
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

Better to be on the inside of the fuel dock/T head. Wakes from pasing boats on the ICW make their way in. Good an knowledgable staff. Floating docks in excellent condition and solid electric. The ICW/weather briefings had stopped the night before my arrival. I've been fortunate to attend them in the past. A great service, very informative and very well done!

Great stop for the next 60 mile jump north or south, 2015-05-04
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

First "Cutest dock girl ever" wrong, hardest working dock person ever. She was briging in 6-10 boats and hour, ALONE, for most of the day. She hustled the day we were there. If you didn't tip her, send her something in the mail NOW.

First rate facilities, super staff, the close location ro

Another great stop, 2015-04-22
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

Cutest dock girl ever and she was really good! Working her way through College! Floating docks. Did not use the facilities.
Very good fuel prices, Mr P's restaurant about a mile walk in town was fantastic! Get a reservation early!
Floating docks, well protected easy on and off from ICW. Pumpout at fuel dock.
Typical neat small town, many interesting older fixed up homes in town.

Well-deserved Honor as Marina of the Year, 2015-02-11
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (702)

We were here for about 3 1/2 months while some work was done on the boat and we went home for awhile over the holidays. Staff was friendly, supportive, and took great care of us. Watching them serve the crowds migrating south with a smile and a friendly greeting shows why this facility was rated Marina of the Year. Their expertise and facilities are great, but more impressive is the attitude of the entire staff--a unique stop!

Best stop for ICW status briefing for the Carolinas, 2014-12-12
Captain: , Annapolis (20)

Great marina, friendly staff, excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. Best of all is the ICW Southbound briefing presented each evening at 6 PM by Hank Pomeranz. Briefing sponsored by Soouthport, Carolina Yacht Care & Zimmerman's. We received full color charts showing the current Corp of Engineers surveys for all the trouble spots along the ICW thru the Carolinas - with current reports from cruisers to help us plot the best course south.

Don't Miss the Weather Briefing, 2014-12-06
Captain: , Guntersville (100)

We overnighted at Southport Marina on our way South. Everything about the Marina is great. The best service is the nightly weather briefing by Hank. The briefing not only covers weather, but navigation through the ICW to Savannah, including updated problem areas. It gave us great confidence to proceed on and using the handout provided, navigate each problem. Don't miss this.

Everything you want in a marina, 2014-11-28
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (1288)

It's marinas like this and towns like Southport that make a cruise up or down the ICW a delight.

And this fall (2014) they've added a great new feature: a weather and ICW trouble spot briefing by former Navy meteorologist Hank Pomernz. Hank is a sailor and his 90-minute briefing gave us a great weather overview and all the information we needed to avoid or deal with trouble spots from Southport down to the SC/GA border. Hank's briefing was professional, focused, and drew in information from all the sources including ActiveCaptain, Salty Southeast Cruisers Net, Matk & Diana Doyle, plus input from cruisers like you and me. This briefing alone is a great reaon to stop at Southport Marina!

We were pinned down here for four days by a serious gale, so we had a chance to sample not only the marina but the town of Southport. Both were superb.

The marina: Very competitive price. Completely rebuilt six year ago, high quality floating docks, good signage, solid 240V electric, good water, friendly and competent dock hands, a ships's store with a thoughful selection, and a very pleasant dog-walking area. Wifi and, reportedly (not tried), cable TV too. Deep entry channel but the marina has silted in, especially the inner slips, but the buoyed channel led us to the face dock and at our place on the back side of the face dock (well protected from the gale) we saw no less than 8 feet at MLW.

The town: just a 10 to 15 minute walk away from the marina, Southport is a nice, friendly town with an eclectic assortment of shops and restaurants and a lot of history. Not large enough for any big box stores or even a supermarket in town, but a friendly local we met offerer--not insisted that we take--his pickup truck and gave us directions to the Super WalMart, just two miles away. On the recommendation of a friend we had an excellent low country dinner at Mr. P's Bistro in town--it fills up quickly so make reservations. We had a great casual seafood dinner at Fishy Fishy, a spot that reminded us of the Bahamas.

Always a pleasant stop, 2014-11-24
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens (34)

Stopped in on 11/9 while helping bring a friend's boat to Florida, after several previous visits in my own boat. Always a good stop, with protected floating docks, helpful and friendly dockhands and clean, convenient facilities. Wifi was actually usable from the boat here! Good resturants within walking distance - liked Fishy-Fishy. Check out the boardwalk just north of the marina that takes you over the tidal flats to a gazebo at the edge of the ICW.

Beautiful, clean marina, 2014-11-16
Captain: , Clayton, NY (645)

Loved the briefing by Hank from cyc. Docks were nice floating docks. Bathrooms and showers were clean and very nice. Staff was wonderful. Town was nice with many shops to brouse.

Worth the stop just to hear Hank Pomeranz speak on ICW issues, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Essex (140)

We stopped here for 2 nights in late October. The floating docks are terrific and the dock hands and Dock Office personnel were great. I would rate this and easy 5 stars if they had paid a little more attention to the restrooms and laundry facilities. The floors were dirty and looked like they were not attended more than once or twice a week.
Southport is a great stop over, with Southport Marina an easy walk into town. The architecture is unique NC coastal, the shops are varied and the restaurants plentiful. Try Mr. P's.
We would also highly recommend the daily presentation that Hank Pomeranz, of Carolina Yacht Care puts on, sponsored by the marina. He covers the current weather forecasts and the hazards and mariner notices between Southport and Savanna along the ICW. Leaving the presentation with a 40 page bouy by bouy roadmap is worth the stop. If you do anything in Southport, stop by to hear this lecture updated daily. Southport Marina deserves a hand for supporting such a great aid to mariners.

Great support, 2014-10-11
Captain: , Denver CO (55)

Good to have supportive folks around when you do something dumb! We came in on Thursday afternoon and walked the town and in the process met Melody and Robin, owners of the newly opened flower shop, Wild By Nature. After getting acquainted, Robin offered to drive the Admiral 2 miles up to Walmarts the next morning to buy a new printer cartridge. On the way back to the marina I stopped off at Zimmermans and asked Steve if they would be willing to give me help if I got behind the curve in replacing a thermostat on my genset as its placement was tight in the engine room. He said OK but Friday would be a full day and no work on the week end. Get an early start. So on Friday I did. All going well with the genset thermostat replacement but after checking its owner manual in the pilot house I came down the stair and stupidly fell down the open hatch to the engine room gouging my leg to a bloody scene. WE NEVER LEAVE IT OPEN WITHOUT EVERYONE KNOWING IT. But there you are! Now the support begins! We called the marina asking for transport to the Emergency Room and
Kerri Brooks, Office Manager was at the boat immediately. Walking out I saw Steve of Zimmermans who said they would finish the torn apart genset job for me. Five stitches and two hours later the Admiral and Melody not only had a new printer cartridge but adequate biotic and bandages for cruising. Back at the boat the genset was back together and at the desired 190 degrees. So, bottom line is its really nice to have folks rally around you when you feel really dumb and are under pressure. Melody, Kerri, Steve, thank you. We've been with you often and look forward to returning!

we'll be back!, 2014-10-09
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (476)

Here on 9/16/14.
Very nice marina located near a great little beach town.
Put us on the face dock which was quite easy. Friendly and helpful staff.
A definite return spot for us!

glad to be back, 2014-10-01
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (935)

Finally changed our schedule to be sure to stop here because we always enjoyed it. Wasn't disappointed. The afternoon staff got us in, fueled up and let us stay at the fuel dock. The place is still like new. They have kept it up.

We showed up on Mon 2/6/12. Even though it was really cold they had a smile on their face, helped up dock and fuel up and guided us to a new little restaurant/deli that had food and desert to die for and just a short walk. Will always stop here.

Nice Place, 2014-09-04

This is a nice well kept Marina. The only downside is that the fairways seem to be pretty narrow. We are 50' and had to do some fancy foot work docking and leaving. We also had no idea what a tourist destination Southport is. At 5pm on Monday the restaurants are already getting full. By 6pm there is a line. Nice area to walk. I forgot to mention what great service we have had on our visits to SouthPort. The dock hands are very professional and work hard at making your stay enjoyable.

Stayed the night of 8-30-14. A little confusion as to where to put us but we ended up on the fuel dock. Had a great view without much wake during the night. Had supper at Port-of-Call in Southport, very good. Marina was clean and neat, good staff, and easy walk to town. We will stay there again for sure.

This marina is top notch, I would stop here every single opportunity The staff is fantastic, from the Marina manager, to the dock hands. Facility was clean, the grounds were kept nice and the bathrooms were very clean. No complaints here at all. Absoluetly love this place and the staff is phenomenal

Captain: , Southport, NC (10)

Though a resident, I wanted to share the great services I've received from both Zimmerman Marine and JJ Boat Services. Zimmerman (Steve Wallace - 910-477-9044) is a full service boat yard who totally restored my bottom from barrier coat outwards, thru-hulls, replaced my A/C etc. JJ Boat Servies (Justin Heady - 1-910-616-0959) just restored our hull with a special ceramic coating that looks like it was just painted w/awlgrip - unbelievable! Both groups are very customer oriented and sensative to transient short notice needs. You won't be sorry!

Southport marina, 2014-06-24
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Great marina. Had a slightly negative experience as the instructions (I thought I heard), had us downwind in a dead end narrow fairway AND the side given for fenders/lines was incorrect. No harm done, so only a slight downgrade. Electric was also a problem, but easily taken care of.
Our experience at the Fishy Fishy Resturant was very negative. Food not great, were overcharged and the manager was totally uninterested.

Good marina, Excellent briefing, 2014-06-04

Hank's weather and hazzard briefing is what makes this marina outstanding. Four stars for the marina, at least five stars for the briefing.

Good Location, 2014-05-26
Captain: , Little River, SC (1967)

My previous review is sti;ll true but we visited there again this spring and I have one major complaint. They need to clean the bathromms and empty the trtash more frequently. We were there for two weeks and the paper towels ran out daily, the toilet paper ran out at least twice. No soap in the dispensers twice. I think they only clean about evrey three days. I had to call twice because the facilities were out of everything and dirty. The trash and recycling is just as bad. The containers were almost always overflowing. This is a top notch facility but they need to pay some attention to housekeeping. I contrast they had 3-4 dock persons on duty all the time, sitting around the dock house. Should have been cleaning up instead.

Southport Marina is fairly convenient to downtown and within 15 minutes walking distance to several good restaurants: Mr.P's Bistro being our favorite. Dock personnel were friendly and helpful but the showere/restroom facilities were not the cleanest. Laundry cost $1.75/load. They were filming a move there along the waterfront which made things kind of interesting.
All of their service work is performed by Gregory Poole Service. We had a mechanic change the oil and fuel filters on our trawler. It took all day but it was not entirely his fault. He charged us for only 5.5 hours.

Not just a marina, it's a destination..., 2014-05-22
Captain: , Castine, ME (58583)

We stayed for a couple of nights waiting for better weather. And what a perfect place to wait for weather - restaurants, shops, great facilities, super staff, and now, Hank giving nightly weather and hazard updates.

The captains meetings are wonderful. Hank is a meteorologist and helps to interpret what's really happening along the coastline. What a wonderful addition to this part of the ICW.

We always loved Southport. It's one of those ICW places that you have to stop at.

Previous review:
This is one if our favorites and we came back again this spring. The docking is easy. The facility is first rate. The people are fantastic - even got a picture of our boat this time!

Super service, great prices, great access. This is the model of what transient docking should be.

We walked the 6 blocks into town and tried the Thai restaurant this time which was a 3.5-out-of-5 experience. Fishy Fishy is our favorite.

Previous review:
We came back.

Southport again was wonderful. Nice places to walk the dogs. Nice restaurants. I can't understand why others think there isn't much here - you have to walk a few blocks (not even a mile) to get to other local places but it's worth the walk. This time we checked out Fishy Fishy - really great with large portions that gave us lunch the next day too.

The facilities here are first rate and you can't beat it for convenience (literally on the ICW in a protected basin). This time we're jumping directly offshore from here - the inlet is just a mile from the docks.

If you haven't been here, it's a wonderful place to check out. We said we'd be back and we'll keep coming back!

Previous review:
The facilities are beautiful. The dockmaster is qualified to pilot my boat back to Maine let alone assist with line handling. The surroundings are interesting with much to do. It is extremely convenient to both the ICW and offshore. We arrived by the ICW and left out the Cape Fear Inlet. Just walking down a block from the marina gives a great view of sea conditions in the inlet - shows how close it is to the crossroads of everything.

This is the kind of place that you can just pop in for the night to rest and go to a local restaurant. But it's also the type of place to stay for a few days to experience Southport or escape bad weather in their safe basin.

We'll be back.

A definite stop, 2014-05-09
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1897)

I don't normally give a 5 star rating unless their is some extraordinary service.
The weather and navigation presentation given at 6 pm definitely qualifies.
Southport is a nice quaint town that is fun to walk around.

Nice marina with great town, 2014-05-08
Captain: , Silverthorne, CO (373)

This was a fine marina convenient to the ICW. They have a weather and navigation briefing every evening during the main transit seasons given by retired meterologist Hank Pomeranz. Very informative presentation and a great chance to meet other northbound boaters. It's an easy walk to Southport, a town with much history. We enjoyed the small museum at the fort, and the many history plaques. Unfortunately, the maritime museum is closed on Mondays.

Great Marina And Staff, 2014-05-06
Captain: , Eau Gallie, Florida (140)

We had read on Active Captain that a weather and navigation hazard briefing are given each evening at Southport Marina. This became a must stop marina. A low pressure system was creating severe weather and moving toward us. The information presented by Hank was priceless. We stayed 3 days to allow the low pressure system to move out into the Atlantic. Thank you Hank, Southport Marina, and Zimmerman Marine for sponsoring this.

We stayed at Southport Marina on 4/24 and 4/25/14 and enjoyed our stay. The marina staff was very pleasant and helpful. We attended the Weather and ICW Update presented by Hank, Carolina Yacht Care. It was excellent and the information was invaluable.

Helpful and Unique Marina, 2014-04-30
Captain: , Tampa (40)

The briefing on weather, navigation and hazards by Hank Pomeranz were excellent and the discussion he lead with all those who attended was most informative. Attend these to learn and help other to cruise safely.

The marina was a very pleasant stopping place with clean and modern facilities and helpful staff when docking in high wind conditions

southport marina, 2014-04-27
Captain: , Brunswick, GA (10)

The nightly weather and navigation is really outstanding. Do yourself a favor and attend, very informative. Marina was quite good although you are rolled quite a bit by speeding boat traffic on the ICW, no wake appears to have no meaning, so far in pretty much the whole of NC. Provision Market had outstanding shrimp and fresh blackened tuna.

Carolina Yacht Care, 2014-04-23
Captain: , Meredith, NH (638)

Hank Pomeranz was wonderfully helpful. He provided a ride to & around town for groceries & other items. More importantly he presents the weather forecast & caution areas on the AICW either north or south bound depending on the direction the attendees are headed. He also covers the conditions outside for those heading out the Cape Fear Inlet. His meeting is at 6:00 PM and lasts about a half hour. The meeting is free and is a must do for any of us heading north or south. Hank plans to stop the service in June after the heavy boating traffic heading north has passed. We're hoping he will resume the service in the fall when we are heading south once again.

Nightly weather and navigational briefing, 2014-04-20
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (361)

This marina is offering a 6pm nightly briefing on weather and navigation from here to Norfolk VA. We found this very helpful and highly reccommend it.
We enjoyed an evening meal at Fishy Fishy, close to the marina, with another looper boat.
Nice stop.

Should Not Be Missed!!, 2014-04-19
Captain: , Evansville, Indiana (65)

Jack Winternheimer

Coming North on the ICW we were checking out marinas for our evening stop. Reading over the information in Active Captain, we noticed that in addition to being a first class marina with most of the amenities we were looking for there was mention of a free nightly weather and navigation briefing for those cruisers traveling the ICW from Southport to the Virginia Line. Being new boaters/cruisers and always looking for more information, this was the item that sealed the deal, so we stopped at Southport Marina, N.C. We were not disappointed! The weather briefing, jointly sponsored by the Southport Marina, Zimmerman Marine and Carolina Yacht Care (CYC) was superb in every way. The briefing, given by Hank Pomeranz, a retired meteorologist and cruiser himself, covered the weather charts and prognosis for the coming seven days and then went into a detailed description of the hazards and trouble spots we would encounter traveling through NC on the ICW. All of the information was extremely accurate and up to date, as we were to discover in the next few days. All of this information was of great value to us.

If you are looking for a great stop, friendly people and a chance to learn about your upcoming route, Southport Marina and the brief by Hank Pomeranz should not be missed.

Great Facilities and Services, 2014-04-14
Captain: , Colorado Springs CO (180)

We kept our boat here for five months of winter and were more than happy with the facilities and staff. The proximity to Southport was nice making for easy biking to town. Zimmerman Marine took on some projects while we were away. They performed in a professional manner and communicated with me better than I am used to! The picnic tables under the oak trees is a nice touch. I will come back.

Carolina Yacht Care, 2014-03-20
Captain: , Marion ma. (10)

While Kathleen spent a month at Southport Marina (which we highly rate) we engaged the services of Hank Pomerantz who runs Carolina Yacht Care. Hank was very accomodating, including his assistance with a repair job to a battery charging system, checking on the boat almost every day, making sure we had adequate heat, electric power, monitoring volts and amps which was an issue as we had shipped off the mastervolt for repair. Hank helped us with transportation and lots of local advice. His boat is berthed at the marina and he lives in town. He is a meteorologist and has developed an app for your iphone for site specific weather forecasts. I highly recommend his service

I would have given them a 5 if bathrooms were closer to fueldock and less wakes during our stay. Docks are great and staff outstanding. We needed a haulout and they were extremely professional and were waiting at the dock to tie us off. I would definately recommend

So So, but not 5 stars, 2014-01-16
Captain: , Jacksonville (190)

The facilities are magnificent, but beauty is only skin deep. They are convenient to town, and the town is great, highly recommend visiting the town!

WiFi, is bad, so bad that I have switched back to LTE. Washers and dryers are the most expensive I have seen, almost $2 per wash then another almost two for the dry. A little bumpy on the fuel pier, during the day, and I can only imagine during the high season, and I would say they are reasonably accommodating, as I needed to fax a few items and they gave me ok directions to a place in town, but I would have thought they might go the extra mile and offer to let me use their machine, I assume they have one.

Zimmerman's on the other hand is aces, and helped me out with some minor disposal, making me feel valued and wanting to earn my business.

We took advantage of a special 2 for 1 rate and stayed 2 nights. Resturants andf shops are close close by a Southport a great town in which to spend time. Wifi and cell coverage very good and docks in good condition. Staff very competent. The one negative, at least near the fuel dock where we were docked was the surge from passing boats. Not sure how the rest of the marina is effected but would not want to spend a long time with that annoying roll. Compared to the cost ot the nearby marina thought the !.75 was a bit high but is is the closed to town so one pays for the convenience of walking to town.

A must stop on the ICW, 2013-11-10
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (266)

Convenient location whether you're traveling ICW or going off-shore. Right on the ICW and just off the Cape Fear River this marina has a prime location. Easy entry into their basin, fuel and pumpout on first dock you encounter. Seems any request or assistance you may desire is quickly delivered with a friendly smile. Heather in the office, Matt and Max working the docks are all outstanding. I appreciate good dock hands that know what to do with a line when it's tossed to them, these guys do. They understand the boat's inertia and use the lines appropriately to assist in controling the vessel during docking. The little show they put on cleating docklines by whipping the rope around the cleats like a lasso is just a bonus, a little flash. Bottom line is they know what they're doing.

Marina has all the facilities you could expect and is a short walk to restaurants and town. This will always be my first choice in the area.

This place has it all, convienient to town and a walk along the water. Mr. P's restaurant has great food and a good menu. The main street is about 15 minute walk from the marina. Enterprise will bring you a car and we did a battleship tour up in Wilmington, which is also a nice place to walk the waterfront and do some shopping.
The Fish supply store near the city docks has the freshest seafood at the best prices if you are interested in cooking on board.

Wonderful Marina, Now Even Better!, 2013-10-31
Captain: , Cape Porpoise, Maine (240)

All of the positive comments about the marina from my fellow Active Captain members are true. Two more positives: 1. the town is very much within walking distance and is filled with fun shops, good restaurants and interesting museums, and 2. Zimmerman Marine has opened a repair facility on site. I consider them among the best service organizations in the US.

Nice Marina Plus Zimmermans, 2013-10-24
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

Came in on one engine for service by Zimmermans. We were directed to the face dock on E. Dock hands were very prompt at meeting us at the dock and good at handling our lines. A representative from Zimmermans was there within 30 min. even though they were very busy to evaluate our problems. Very competent mechanics. We are very satisfied with the service from Zimmermans who are aware of the need to get cruisers on their way as quickly as possible.

One of the Best, 2013-10-16
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

We have docked at many marinas, and this has to rank up with the very best. The dockhands are prompt and helpful, and the docks are in great shape. The entire marina has had a major facelift in the last few years, and it shows. It is more expensive than other choices, but I think they are worth it.
Now add the fact that Zimmerman Marine Services are available right on the dock and you have a truly exemplary facility.

We needed to be hauled for some service and I can tell you that the manager and employees of the Yard are terrific. These guys are careful, and attentive. You cannot ask for better service from the Yard.

First time here, won't be the least, 2013-10-11
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (944)

This was our first visit to Southport Marina and I was very impressed. As others have said, it is well run and has most eveything you can want as a transient. The dock staff was freindly and competent, taking the time to make sure we were properly tied up, electric hooked up, cable, etc., before leaving. A couple of good "down home" restaurants are within a 10 minte walk.

Only suggestion is when you stay here, be sure and ask to be in a slip on the "inside" and not on the fuel dock T-head. Since it is right on the ICW, that can get a bit rolly (even though it is a no wake zone).

Quality marina, good folks!

Nice stop on the ICW, 2013-09-25
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2153)

After a long day it was nice to come in to a marina that was well kept and well run. The dockhands know what they're doing, the docks are new and clean, and the facilities are top notch. The town was only a fifteen minute walk, but after a long day we opted for Dominoes - delivered to the dock.

Even Better Now, 2013-09-09
Captain: , Washington, DC (63)

Repairs are now provided by Zimmerman Marine, probably the best on the Chesapeake Bay. Like the marina staff, these guys really know what the are doing and go out of their way to be helpful and get you going again with excellent work and a fast turnaround.

we stayed here because we wanted to take the Fear river in the best conditions and see a little of Southport. The facilities were all very nice, but the part I most appreciated were the perfectly clear docking instructions, including fender height. The Dockmaster answered our call promptly about 1/2 mile from the marina and stayed with us verbally all the way in. Although our boat was not visible until entering the marina he was able to watch our mast to be sure we were following directions and have an easy entrance.

Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

This charming town was great. It was a quick stop for us (1/4-5/13), but we were able to walk to a restaurant called Fishy Fishy and enjoy a great meal. The staff here is very competent and the facilities are great. We used a taxi to do some shopping at the local Wal-Mart, which seemed a little tired compared to other Wal-marts we have been in, but it did the job. The first taxi service on the list the marina gives you was great. The second one on the list provided us with a driver that was less than friendly and a little strange. Could have been a fluke. In any case, there are only a few taxis even in the area and they are very mom and pop. We would definitely return to this marina.

We did a short hop to here from Joyner Marina so did not use the showers, fuel, or pumpout. We were in a nice wide slip tucked inside on C dock centrally located and close to the bath/toilet house just in the parking lot. We walked into town (not very impressed) and got a ride from a former marina worker to the WalMart for groceries and cabbed back ($10). We walked to a new restaurant, Frying Pan, throught the more charming, waterfront residential part of Southport. The fried food was good and the building is amazing. Just a big open space with substantial (i.e. hurricane resistant looking) beams and pilings. It sits up high and has a great view over the ape Fear inlet. Very nice, clean floating wooden docks. The harbomasters shop is nice too with a few provisions: beer, wine, snacks, some tourist stuff.

Very nice stop, 2012-10-11
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1203)

Great dockhands. Good docks, very close to town. We would definitely consider this for a longer term stay. Wakes weren't bad overnight, though during they day they may be a problem.

Convenient to the ICW, 2012-09-28
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

The docks are in great shape, the staff most helpful. They were right there to help with the lines and it was obvious they knew what they were doing. The facilities are clean. The quaint town is a short walk from the marina that passes a number of historic homes along the way. The wakes from the ICW caused a little rocking during the day but were not bad. Wakes were no issue after sunset. We'd stay here again and would recommend it to other ICW travelers.

Great marina to leave your boat for a while, 2012-09-01
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (780)

left our boat there for over a month and it seems to be a very secure place. Well maintained, nice and clean everywhere, relatively new docks and a very helpful staff. Had minor issues checking in and leaving due to absence of a management person, but not a big deal.

Our pick for Southport, 2012-07-28
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (231)

We stayed overnight on 7/28. This is a well maintained marina with a helpful and professional staff. The transient dock is exposed to southerlies and ICW traffic. However, we were at the east end of the fuel dock and were pleasantly surprised at how little rocking or hull slap we had from passing traffic and the strong south wind that blew until sunset. The entrance is well marked with good water for our five foot draft. There is no restauarant on premises and it was too hot and windy to make the 15 minite walk to anything interesting. You can't beat my wife's homemade spaghetti anyway. Unlike some other nearby marinas, there is no ferry to annoy you with noise and wakes. All things considered, we'll make Southport Marina our top pick for an overnight stop. A nice on-prem restaurant might make ot a five star for us.

Nice marina and town, 2012-07-26
Captain: , Murrells Inlet, SC (61)

Got in late and tied up at fuel dock. Power was available and resturant close by. They were shooting Safe Harbor when we were there that gave us a 3 block detour to get to Fishy Fishy Cafe. Some wind made it fun to cast off next morning but turned out to be easier than we expected. Dockmaster great o deal with.

Nice floating docks, staff very helpful. It can get a bit windy, the transient dock was parallel to the ICW and the fuel dock..our nite happened to be a little rally but our boat is a little on the lite side. Some nice small intimate restaurants of good quality. Provisions require some travel, as there are no grocery stores in downtown. Some items available at convenience stores. Marina facility is very nice, nice docks, well maintained, friendly helpful crew, and very nice shower and restrooms. Showers and Rest rooms can get busy on holiday weekends or during fishing tournaments. Recommend this stop.

I like to look at boats, so I was happy to see we were joining two new Flemings, a Hatteras, a 55' Nordhaven and many other very big beautiful boats. However, the reason we came was to recover from our 100+ mile outside journey and to rest. Now that the marina's restuarant has closed, the closest one was too far for our tired bodies to walk so we ate on the boat. All in all, a very nice, pleasant marina.

Very nice place, 2012-05-17

Arriving after 6 the dockmaster stayed to assist me,Many Thanks after a long run from Hammock creek and being stopped by the Harbor Police for getting too close to a Restricted area on the Fear River.Short walk to food and lots of hot water in the shower.

Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

Recently overnighted at Southport Marina and we were pushing it to get there by dark. They stayed open and stayed ready on the VHF for us. Not only assisting us with a slip for the night but also taking the extra 20 minutes to top us off with fuel so we could get an early start the next day. The renovated marina facilities are gorgeous and the bathroom facilities are very clean.

Very good dock crew, 2012-03-31
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (768)

Very good dock crew. We fueled here on the way South. For a 33' cat they had 3 people on the dock to handle lines. They had us properly tied off in minutes.

not much here, 2012-03-24
Captain: , sassafras river, md (303)

resturant is closed. rest rooms are pretty far away. sent a somewhat bumpy night with the power boats and tugs passing by and throwing wakes directly into the transit/fuel dock.

So Much Better now the the Ferry has moved, 2012-02-06
Captain: , Vero Beach (527)

Southport is an excellent marina in every regard but restroom and shower facilities. The floors are treacherously slippery even in boat shoes. The Men's floor outside the showers pools water. We pointed this out to them in 2009, and it remains a problem. We will certainly stop here again, but shower on the boat.

Protected marina with good facilities, floating docks, close to town, 2011-12-02
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

We came over here after rocking&rolling all the night before across the river at Bald Head Island Marina. I'm not saying "dont go" to Bald Head, as a matter of fact it is beautiful and a "must see". This marina was very protected from all winds West through N to East. The marina is so nice, someone had chosen the grounds for their wedding. It is a short walk to town (.4 mile) and there seems to be lots going on in the town. The maritime muesuem doesn't stack up to Newport News, but, what does. It is well worth the cost. It's free and interesting. Though other reviews cautioned waves from the ICW, we had no problem with that.

It Has Everything, 2011-11-15
Captain: , Deltaville VA (140)

If there is anything Southport Marina doesn't have, I'm not aware of it. I called Southport NAPA and they delivered a 30 Amp Shore Power Cord to me at the marina in about 15 minutes.

Very competent and efficient., 2011-11-03
Captain: , Michigan (583)

This was our third stay on 11-1-11. This has always been a first rate stop for us. Close walking distance to Fishy Fishy Restaurant.

Great marina!, 2011-10-26
Captain: , Boston (232)

Floating docks in excellent condition. Friendly and helpful dock staff. Easy walk to restaurants and shops.

Very nice clean marina, 2011-07-26
Captain: , No real home port. Cruising. (320)

Reportedly rebuilt about 2006, this is a clean marina with all floating docks, clean restroom facilities. Staff is friendly. Taxi service $8 to Walmart, $12 to Oak Island.

Nice Marina - adequate bathrooms, 2011-06-06
Captain: , East Haddam, CT (315)

They had a courtesy car (didn't use it though) so if you need groceries or anything (only restaurants and novelty shops in town) good to have that.

Great Marina, 2011-06-01
Captain: , Southport, NC (80)

In the best location in one of the best coastal towns in NC. Also, a quick shot over to Bald Head, up to New Hanover Co beaches and out to the ocean.

Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

This was actually my second stay here, but the first was three years ago. We arrived to be greeted by two of the most competent dockhands I have ever encountered. Very good restaurants are nearby (Something Fishy) and a great breakfast place right across the street.

Nice place to stop, 2011-04-24
Captain: , Between Boats, USA (623)

Stayed the night 4/22/2011. Nice stop. The dockhands really knew what they were doing, but were a little whiny about a couple of minor things. Batrooms were just ok, and the docks behind the dockhouse are a little open to the ICW. Nearby, of course, is the amazing little town of Southport. Go to Mr. P's for the best oysters! Plenty to see and do, but it looks like the economic downturn has hurt the town some. Still, it's a great stop. A little more expensive, but nice nonetheless.

Great stop!, 2011-04-22
Captain: , Stratford, CT (658)

The rest of the reviews said it all...the dog park facility at the marina is top notch-something you don't find at marinas.
Try Provision Co for some god eats.

One of our favorites, 2011-04-01
Captain: , New Orleans, LA (631)

Very clean docks, nice showers. helpful staff. Restaurants are a short bike ride through a very pretty town. Try for a spot at the end (or back side) of the face docks... it can be bouncy at night if you're tied up near the dockmaster's house.

Great Place, 2011-03-30

A "must stop", 2010-11-19
Captain: , charleston (761)

Southport Marina is a wonderful facility. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Beautifully maintained dog walk area under the oak trees. Southport is a charming town with much history, neat shops, and well maintained historic homes. Only downside would be lack of grocery facilities. Also we had to have a new battery and battery charger installed. Work for that was sloooowwww but that was not marina's fault.

Southport Marina 11/14/10, 2010-11-15
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (87)

They stayed open a little later to get us in and fueled. Great dockmaster. Not to far of a walk to town but bring a flashlight at night. Spent the night on the fuel dock which, although tucked in a bit, is very exposed to the wakes of passing ICW cruisers that don't slow down. They've been trying to get a regulated no wake zone out front of the marina but no luck yet. Request a slip if possible. Bathrooms/showers could stand some cleaning and freshening but would absolutley stay here again.

Great staff; beautiful marina, 2010-11-10
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

The staff couldn't do enough to help us tie up. Very rarely do you find marina staff who "flemish" the lines on the dock.
The facilities look great.

Disappointed in Facilities, 2010-11-09
Captain: , Oriental, NC (233)

Nice docks but the restrooms were dirty and a mess. When the management was told of the conditions, little was done to impove the situation. Ashley

Lost our reservation!, 2010-11-07
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (849)

Very disappointed with Southport Marina. We called this AM at 9 and made a reservation for same night. Very courteous response. Unfortunately, when we arrived at 4:30, they had no spaces left and had no record of our reservatgion. We even confirmed the number I called with our cell log and it was this marina. Luckily, Deep Point was able to accommodate us. The forcast is for freezing tonight and we would have been in an anchorage without power for the night.

Great Stop, 2010-11-06

This is my home marina. The marina is very nicely maintained and the employees are first class. The location is close to a very nice old southern friendly town.
I have enjoy my time here and will continue to keep my boat here.

Spent 1 night on 6-1-10 Very efficiently run, pleasant staff. Took on 100 Gal Diesel @ $3.05/gal Inc Tax Facilities nice floating dock

Up-Dated Review 9-18-10 A very nice end of the dey at Southport. Justin & Chris do a fine job managing the docks.
Fuel $3.09/Gal . Enjoyed our two day stop here. Dinner at Fishy Fishy very good. There are also other restaurants at the end of Howe St. Nice town but 90 % shops closed on Sunday as well as the Maritime Museum.Good location

Good transit stop, 2010-08-29
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

Stopped here for 4 days while going while waiting to get into marina in Wilmington. Stayed on the backside of the fuel dock and was rocked a number of times by ICW traffic. Was supposed to be on a T dock but due to lack of dock staff to help in getting in was put on backside of fuel dock.

Would be a 5 if they had a courtesy car. Need transportation to reprovision.

Helpful staff but limited number.

A number of good restaurants within walking distance.

Stop in May 2010, 2010-08-10
Captain: , Dallas, TX (726)

Great stop, got in late and was told to tie to the fuel dock since we came in on fumes. Filled up first thing the next am and offered to move while we had breakfast across the street. Dock attendant would not hear of it, said just leave her where she sat, no rush. Local knowledge changed the route plan to avoid going around cape fear. Plan to stay a couple of nights there to see the sights on the way back to FL.

Great Spot!, 2010-06-23

Southport Marina is a "Must Stop", 2009-10-11
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (370)

This is definitely a town and 1st class marina to not by-pass. We've been in a slip in the marina for a few days. The last time we were here was at least 7 years ago and it was definitely nothing to write home about. The transformations are amazing. A great amount of creativity and detail went into the planning of the entire layout! We continue to exclaim to each other about how beautiful and inviting it is.
Now for the restaurants! We live to eat, unfortunately---not eat to live! This morning we had breakfast at PJ's, just across the street. The food and service were great. It's a very popular place and there was a continual stream of patrons coming in for brunch. Last night we'd planned to go to the Provision Company but the wind died down and the mosquitos, the size of hummingbirds, were attacking in droves so we opted for inside seating at Fishy Fishy! Bill had Fish and Chips, I had the BEST Shrimp and Grits I've ever had, and we both had wine for under $30!!!
We've ridden our bikes all over this town (which doesn't take long) and there are so many cute shops, antique stores, cafes and bars--and a Super WalMart is a mere 2 miles up the main drag.
Plan a stop in South Port. "You'll be glad you did!!!"

Outstanding!, 2009-09-21
Captain: , Wrightsville Beach, NC (368)

Great people, new docks, a great place to stay a few extra days! This aerial photo is very old. DOck was completely rebuilt with Brazillian hardwood, and added docks as well. Great people, great place. I gave it 5 stars because there are not 6!

Very helpful staff, 2009-07-04
Captain: , Fort Myers (749)

We only spent one night here but were very impressed. Facilities are impeccable. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Nice walk to town with a few restaurants and shops. Only negative was that the transient rate is pricey for the area. It was much cheaper a mile or so down the ICW. If you weren't going to town, I would stay at the marinas a mile or two south.

Good spot to wait out a storm, 2009-05-17
