Reviews for South Side Marina
Great Marina, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Bronte Harbor Oakville Ontario (203)

This is a great Marina very clean and Bob will do everything to take good care of you.

Southside! 3/13/17 , 2017-03-14
Captain: , Port Everglades (10)

Great little marina, charts look a bit scary however it's fairly easy to navigate. Bob will "walk" you in when you come into sight. Bob is the most laid back easy going guy and extremely helpful. Bobs bar is on the premises, marina is extremely calm. Best night of sleep I've had in awhile. Definitely recommend Southside.

Great place to fuel, layover, hang out and or just relax!, 2017-01-14
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (11)

I%u2019m a delivery captain and I%u2019ve been to almost every marina in the Caribbean and South Side Marina is definitely one of the coolest marinas around. %u201CUncle Bob%u201D is always there to help, the facilities have just had some additional remodeling like the showers and laundry. And then there is the world famous Bob%u2019s Bar and Bocce Ball. Great view and cocktails as well as the Wednesday night BBQ Potluck with live music.

The road to town just got paved so it%u2019s even easy to get here by land. Bob will arrange Customs and Immigration to come to the boat so you don%u2019t even have to go anywhere to check in or out.

Like I said, it%u2019s a really cool spot with super cool people and always a pleasure to stop in when I%u2019m in the neighborhood and a great little hidey-hole to wait for a weather window.

Ok for a stopover, 2016-06-25
Captain: , Hingham, MA (1079)

Good: Bob is very nice and will take you into town. The marina is tucked away and has good protection from wind.
Bad: The marina is very sketchy to get in/out - very thin water. We draw 5 and almost bumped. After a couple days on the dock, there was mice feces found on two of the boats in our group. The docks are a challenge to get on/off due to the dock lines running everywhere. There was only one functioning shower/toilet and it was in an apartment. There is absolutely nothing nearby that is walking distance and you cannot get any food deliverd.

I didn't want to leave, 2016-06-02
Captain: , Boston, MA, USA (125)

This a great little place with friendly and helpful staff. You might find more modern facilities, but not a better attitude.
Though it's not close to any facilities, they will drive you to them if needed. If you need a rental car, they will arrange it.
Just one word of warning--do not play Bocce Ball with Bob unless you can handle losing!

South Side Marina, 2016-04-15
Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

We are a 47 foot sailboat, 6 foot draft, 66 foot airdraft. A little tricky entrance, but Bob will talk you in. We had to go in and out at high tide. Floating docks, nice facility. Bob will drive you to the grocery store and back. Very well protected, Bob is a great guy and very interesting to talk to! Highly recommend this place. Clean, nice bar on site, and a barbeque provided up at the bar to cook on. Fuel available.

Nice but overrated IMO, 2016-03-16
Captain: , Sneads Ferry, NC (351)

Aside from the cold showers (I was really looking forward to a warm one!), the marina is quite nice. My issue is with the staff and the notion that "all marinas should be run like this". I'll explain:

After a couple of nights at SSM, we decided to explore TCI by boat. Bob was in the DR (he has/had a g.f. there), and his office gal was "due in by 10 or 11" then "1 or 2" then "not sure". This started at 9, she got there at 4. When we gave up on her, the dock hand checked us out at glacial speed, so instead of moving to West Caicos, we left near sunset and had to anchor over by the town dock. The dockhand kept saying "You need to check out of the country" to which we replied "We are not leaving the country; we are leaving Southside Marina". To which he replied "You need to clear out of the country" to which we replied....... We did this three times, then he said "OK". After we spent 2 days at West Caicos, we called SSM to talk with Bob about ways to contact Immigration to find out the rules for staying when there is bad weather or a boat needs parts. He said "Let me handle it" and we could hear him talking to the Immigration officials saying "They left the country without clearing out and now they want back in". When we had him back on the line, we explained the actual situation and he insisted that we had told HIM that we were leaving the country. He wasn't even there when we left SSM. Again, after telling him we left SSM but not TCI, he scolded us saying "You really shouldn't leave the country without clearing out". In further conversations, we became convinced that Bob is either distracted by romance or having some memory problems. Your experience may be different, but ours was wacky.

Very nice spot and team, 2016-03-02
Captain: , Lac Champlain (105)

Thank you to M.Bob and all team.

Excellent marina, just arrived at high tide. Bob and all the friendly people, nice place, possibility for our customs and immigration directly to the South Side marina.

There is a small cozy bar, there is even a nice BBQ to cook our steaks or other than Bob, but to us, very good WiFi, there are water and fuel. You can diving, a team is on site. You can go grocery shopping with the suggestions from Bob, fantastic.

Congratulations to the entire team, we recommend this very pleasant South Side marina.

D&R Rodignard

Superb spot with a very welcoming staff., 2016-02-29
Captain: , Hampton, VA (91)

Stayed here for a few days and had an excellent time. Bob really treats you like family. We were welcomed immediately by bob and his pups and immediately into a laid back atmosphere. Bob has a bar at the top of the marina with amazing views and Navarde, the bar tender, makes the best rum punch I've ever had. Laundry facilities available. Shower also available, was cold at the time, but hey it's the Caribbean, it felt good! Bob will also give you a ride into town if needed. Would recommend this place for anyone and if your lucky, you can beat Bob in bocce ball. I played him in about half a dozen games and never seemed to win. You feel like family at this Marina!

Extraordinarily Cruiser Friendly, 2016-01-24
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (50)

Southside Marina provides excellent protection, services and hospitality. They offer clean fuel, floating docks, showers, and laundry. TCI officials will come to the marina to clear you in and/or out. The owner, Bob Pratt, is very knowledgable about services and attractions on the island. He will do anything humanly possible to ensure you have an enjoyable stay, including providing transportation to the mega-IGA grocery, hardware/chandlery, airport, etc. Julien is the marina handyman and can provide excellent assistance in getting your boat in order. Overlooking the marina is "Bob's Bar, an attractive and friendly place to view sunsets and meet other cruisers and locals. The equally attractive and friendly Nevarde is the hostess at the bar,and will provide you with enough liquid encouragement to challenge Bob to a game of Bocce on the adjoining well-groomed court.
On a previous stop at Provo, we based ourselves at Sapodilla Bay and had a less than enjoyable experience. Now thanks to Bob and his cruiser friendly marina, we look forward to many future stops at Providenciales!

Great Stop, everything, 2015-08-17
Captain: , ocean ridge (119)

Great stop for fuel, water, electric, and calm. Entrance seems tricky, but really easy if you go slow....Bob's the man! He will gladly drive you around, Jullien always there to help...

Entry by 7' Draft, 2015-05-05
Captain: , Norfolk (60)

April 2015

Marina Mgmt provides excellent assistance to visitirs: Rides to local market, organizing rental cars, rides to airport, etc. Entry channel is marked by three lighted, floating Red Bouys. Stay close to them on entry (10' or less. Channel is currently being dredged so watch out for dredge equipment.
For drafts of 6' and more, enter on high tide and call SoSide Marina on VHF 16 for assistance / updated channel instructions.
SoSideMarina has excelleny wifi.

2013 We were anchored in Sapodilla Bay being bounced aorund when we overheard Bob's morning Weather information... following that we called him and immediately pulled anchor and headed over to Cooper Jack Bay, and upon high tide we were able
to slide the keel across the sand into So Side Marina
so, it is dooable if you are careful and there another waves coming in. We were very glad to get in and enjoy some calm dockage.

If you have to go to Provo..., 2015-04-30
Captain: , St Augustine, FL (83)

....This is a good place to stop for check in and friendly helpful staff.
Bob, Cam, and Julienne....very good service. Assistance in getting to grocery store is great. If the laundry had been reasonable and in an enclosed building ($5 for a load of cold water wash $5 for dryer out in heat and Mosquitos, & no folding tables, no thanks)
And, if the shower room had a way to hang your things off the floor and had warm water, then a five star. This is all more of a guy kind of set up. We didn't use shower or laundry because of the set up for those.
Provo overall gets about 3 stars for being a copy of the Florida coast at 4 times the price. As another stated here..... overdeveloped eyesore, but it has some things that are helpful for progressing on south.
This Marina is one of them.

Bob is Awesome, 2015-04-23
Captain: , San Marcos, TX (865)

We did not stay here this voyage, but listened to Bob's cruisers net most mornings. The service and friendship he provides sets an example we should all follow. He helped us locate and communicate with some fellow cruisers several times. Thanks, Bob

Great little spot, 2015-04-15
Captain: , Portsmouth NH (681)

We did not like Provo at all, out of control commercial development has trashed it, but this great little marina made up for it.

Bob is very knowledgable and he and his team are always helpful. There is an interesting community that gathered in Bob.'s Bar, everyone from wandering mariners to the T&C police commissioner while we were there.

BEWARE: there is some lackadaisical dredging going on at the time of writing but the entrance is very tricky. We came in at low tide with a 4'6" draft and touched bottom three times. The good news it is fine sand/silt so no damage likely. Talk to Bob before coming in and you will be fine.

Awesome place to rest, 2015-03-21
Captain: , Halifax NS. (392)

Bob and Julien made our stay here very enjoyable. They couldn't do enough for us. Customs came and cleared us in with no hassles. 5 minutes and we were done. IGA was a hike but once we started walking we got picked up and dropped off same on the way back. Internet was good and the two "watchdogs" we're very friendly. Bob opened up the bar in he evening and served a mighty cold beer! This is a place we will have to come back to.

Pleasant, friendly stopover, 2015-01-23
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (250)

travelled in from Mayaguana on our way south. Bob Pratt made us feel welcome, providing advice and even driving us to the local market to reprovision. Facility is not flashy but is solid and provides good shelter. Very dog friendly as Bob has two "Marina dogs" Fuel was $6.15 per gallon on 1/23/2015.

Kudos to Bob Pratt, 2014-12-28
Captain: , Miami Beach (223)

Kudos to Bob Pratt, owner/manager at Southside. Although we were unable to visit his facility, we valued his morning Provo cruisers net (VHF 72 at 0730). Bob was also gracious enough to provide some individualized advice on TCI weather and anchorages via VHF . . . and invites all cruisers to the Wednesday potluck!

sheltered marina run by helpful cruiser. full services. well-marked entry, 2014-12-19
Captain: , Dover, DE (101)

owner Bob Pratt is a lifelong cruiser and long-time T&C resident. Very helpful, even giving rides to grocery store and other side of island for to check out snorkeling there. He runs "Bob's Bar" and hosts a pot-luck for cruisers, encourages nice social atmosphere at marina,
floating dock. room for catamarans. transients and long-terms welcome.
Bob provides weather on local radio show each morning. tracks many weather charts and you can stop in and get updates during day
customs/immigration comes right to the marina to do the checkin which is very convenient
well-marked channel. follow Bob's waypoints to the number and you'll avoid coral and rocks.
marina's water is clean and clear
Cons: internet spotty and slow (by US standards) but wireless does reach to boats
one shower/bathroom for guests, open air so mosquitoes at night
cold water only in bathroom and laundry (but that's typical of the area/island)
cost ($75 a day plus water, electricity, laundry) a bit high for what you get

Great place to unwind and connect with real people., 2014-03-15
Captain: , Crockett (610)

We arrived after a 3 day passage from Fajardo, Puerto Rico and couldn't have been more happy with our stay. South Side Marina is a small independently owned an operated marina with little flash but a whole lot of substance, if you're looking for infinity pools and spas look elsewhere. Bob goes beyond hospitality by offering rides into town, arranging customs and helping in any other way possible.

Bob's Bar is in fact open every night 5-9 and is a mix of locals, vacationers renting villas and fellow cruisers. We had a great time hearing stories of the folks that helped develop Provo and I really think a book needs to be written. Cruisers seem to congregate in the gazebo near the dock and we spent a number of nights connecting well past our bed time.

Too bad we can't stay longer, but we don't want to pay our $300 cruising permit (only required for stays longer than 7 days) and it's time to continue our journey north. If we pass through here again we will definitely stop by South Side Marina.

Slightly overrated?, 2014-03-12
Captain: , Mooloolaba (692)

We spent just the one night here travelling in from Sapodilla Bay and then leaving the TCI. Quite a journey in with a very narrow entrance. Well sheltered and an easy place from which to hire a car and travel the Island.

Bob very helpful.

Docks and showers rustic. Beware nail heads on wooden docks. Noisy with fishermen and the air compressor for the dive boat. Shower requires one hand in air to hold water on. Better be taller than 5' 6" or you wont reach the tap.

$75/night for a catamaran. Would be happy to leave my boat here unattended. Less attractive attended.

Outstanding, 2013-12-22
Captain: , Annapolis (221)

Such a great place! Whatever you thought you knew about the T&C's but never found out for yourself -- forget it. Come to these islands and form your own oppinions and even if you don't stay here make sure you tune in to the cruiser net in the morning on 72 at 0730hrs.

Joining the Chorus of Cheers!, 2013-07-19
Captain: , Palm Is., FL (11)

All the great things already attributed to Bob are true and prove if you don't like this place you deserve to be floating behind your boat with the breadfruit.

Great stay at Southside, 2013-07-14
Captain: , British Virgin Islands (20)

We spent 12 days here in April 2013. Wifi worked really well, water so nice we swam there. Bob the owner is hard of hearing so may not hear you call on VHF. He takes care of calling customs/immigration for you and will also drive you to stores, etc. When it was time for us to leave Bob was very helpful checking tides, which were unusually low that day, & we followed his advice carefully. Felt safe here, nice showers, definitely recommend it.

South Side Marina, Provo. Turks & C, 2013-05-16
Captain: , Pensacola, Fl (83)

May 15, 2013:

Have been here before. Well protected Marina, Warm management.

The only thing that detracts is that it is difficult to get into marina. Watch the tide. Call Harbor Radar/Harbor control on Ch 16 and ask for the tides to be at high.

At least 5 or 6 Corral heads in approach and even at high tide some areas 6 ft or slightly less. At low can be 4 ft olr so. Experienced boaters needed.

Make sure you call for the waypoints! Do not try to enter by eyeball at low tides!

Fantastic Marina, 2013-01-25
Captain: , Boston (300)

Perfect small, cruiser friendly marina, well protected, all amenities. Bob will drive you to groceries, meals and take care of all your needs. Happy hour every day is great, but the Thursday night barbeque with cruisers and some of Bob's local friends is fantastic. The about to be licensed bar is extremely nice with a great view.
We never saw less than 6 1/2' all the way in at a little after half tide. Yes, a longer stay with a fishing permit can be a little pricey, but up to seven days is reasonable and the customs officer is friendly and helpful.

If Only all marinas were this good, 2013-01-08
Captain: , Road Town (537)

I agree with the other reviews. Bob is one of the best owners I have come accross. Great protection - the kind of marina one could leave a boat in for a month and not worry.

Excellent!!, 2012-08-11
Captain: , Galena, MD (1856)

Wonderful place to be protected from everything except from the west. Call Bob on the radio and he will review the waypoints coming in. Well marked channel after second waypoint. Bob will go out of his way to make sure you are comfortable. Will offer to take you grocery shopping or to a restaurant. We were here during off season and enjoyed it very much. To go anywhere you need wheels.
Rented a car for a few days from Scooter Bob and got out to see the island and visit a few restaurants. Scooter will pick you up at the marina and drop you off when you return the car.
da Conch Shack was a great place for lunch. Magnolias was wonderful for dinner and drinks. Provo is not cheap!!

small gem of a Marina, the project of one man, a long term resident of TCI, and a, 2012-05-04
Captain: , Edgewater, Md (20)

Call Bob on the radio or cell phone and he will direct you in thru a slightly tricky entry. Not for 6'+ drafts. Excellant wifi, and all the mod cons (providing you like a cool shower) Just a fun place to stop. IGA grocery just out of walking distance, thank goodness!

Groceries are a bit more expensive than the Bahamas, but the people are lovely, Customs and Immigration officers are efficient and courteous, if you are! Scooter Bob rents a small SUV for $59/day, plus plus of course.

Only Game in Town, 2012-04-06
Captain: , Washington, DC (840)

South Side Marina is the only game in town for cruisers. The other marinas seem to be dominated by fishing and commercial operators. Bob and Charlyn go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. They help with dinner reservation, car rentals, grocery runs, and organizing sundowner services. The customs/immigration officers use the marina office to check you in and out. Clearance could not be easier.

South side MArina, 2012-03-28
Captain: , Clearwater FL (685)

I concur with the other reviews. The marina is nice. Some new things: The rate to check in is up from $15 to $50. BUT if you stay over a week its $300 more!! This is something new this year. The fuel price today is $6.20 per gal.

Bump-pa-bump-pa-bump, 2011-06-02
Captain: , Newark, DE (250)

Simon and Charlyn are the best marina operators I have ever met! Bob is a cool cat too, but Simon and Charlyn make this marina outstanding! I draw 6'6" so I had to come into the marina during the peak of the highest tide, I bumped along some of the sandbars coming in, which was nerve racking, but it was worth it, those nerves recovered just fine with the daily 5:00 happy hours announced by the ringing of the bell, the weekly bbq, and the cruiser's heaven environment created by Simon and Charlyn!

We were treated to car rides to town, pick ups and drop offs at the airport, organized group luncheons, and experience and wisdom from the many seasons that this marina has been open. Simon's morning cruiser net broadcasts were very helpful, and his voice made me feel like I was on fantasy island!

There are other deeper marinas that I could tie into, but I'll wait for high tide everytime I go to Provinciales!!

South Side, 2011-04-11
Captain: , Babylon NY (331)

I am very pleased to say that South Side Marina is the friendliest marina I have ever docked at in 40,000 miles of cruising. The people are extreamly friendly and like a group of old friends that are constantly helping each other. They have daily coctail hours, weekly barbacues and a few outings for lunch or dinner a week. It is the place to stop in Provinciales. Say hello to Bob and Simon. They will help in ways you would not even ask for.

Very Cruiser Friendly, 2011-03-31
Captain: , Cleveland, Ohio (50)

We stayed at Southside in March of 2011 and think it is an exceptionally friendly place. We support the comments of the other reviewer re services. They also have happy hour each evening for those staying in the marina, a BBQ get together once a week, and Simon broadcasts a morning weather net each day. Finally, protection is very good from all directions except the SW. Highly recommended.

Superb Cruiser Marina, 2011-02-06
Captain: , Port St Lucie (514)

Simon and Charlyn make this marina with support of the owner Bob. Simon will give you waypoints through the shallow bank. Just stay on them and you'll be fine. If you're concerned about tides, deep draft or need a little extra help Simon will take care of you just call the harbor master on Ch 16. All floating docks, great internet and fuel are easy to get here. The marina will also shuttle you to restaurants, grocery, and marine store.

You can clear in here. Simon will call immigration and have them come to you! Mceever is the immigration officer and he's great to work with.

We were just super impressed by this place and highly recommend it!
