Reviews for South Minneford Yacht Club
A Little Rollie - but a decent place to stay, 2014-09-26
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

Due to a last minute change in plans we called in the morning looking for a place to tie up shortly after noon. The secretary was receptive and helpful and told us to come on in. The dockmaster met us in the rain and helped get us settled. The slips are narrow with fingers on both sides. The floating docks are substantial and well cared for. It was quiet enough at night but the marina is open to the east and with an east wind blowing there was a fair amount of boat motion. The only downside is that there's a single, unisex head and shower that is pretty rustic. There are two laundramats about 1/2 mile away and a small IGA market about 3 blocks further. There were a fair number of restaurants nearby as well.

Terrible service, 2013-09-14
Captain: , Portsmouth, England (190)

Were originally considering North Minneford but after reading Active Captain reviews considered South. Initially emailed but received no response, followed up with call to ask if they would have availability and cost and were advised by secretary this would need to be discussed by the board (we were asking for slip for week or two in August 2013 as we had visitors) and she would call back. A week later no response, called back, advised board meeting next day, again would callback. No response, at this point we should have given up but we did call back and got put through to secretary's boss, assume chairman who basically advised they didn't really want us staying there. This seemed to be based on the fact that our boat was not big enough or a make that they wanted! Magnum is a Centurion 36, Wauquiez, in our 2.5 years cruising Europe, the West Indies and US we have never come across such treatment. It is very disappointing that they behaved in this way but lucky that we contacted the Ocean Cruising Club in the area who was able to advise on some much more accommodating marinas.

Have been here before., 2013-06-30

South Minneford Marina is also recovering from Sandy. They have opened up 2 new floating docks and the electricity had just been installed when we arrived. It continues to be a well run marina with helpful staff. However they do need to upgrade the unisex shower facility. The restrooms in the office area are fine. It is a convenient location to town with laundramat, restaurants, hardware and IGA grocery store. Also good walking/jogging if you go over the bridge.

New docks at South Minneford, 2013-06-10
Captain: , City Island New York (600)

We just have redone the docks D and E after Sandy with electric and water...looks gorgeous...perfect for transient going north or south..

Very Nice Marina!, 2013-05-29
Captain: , Edgewater (321)

We stay at this marina a few times a year. We prefer it to North Minneford. The staff can not due enough for you. Docks are good, fellow boat owners very friendly. Bathrooms are clean. There is a nice small lawn to walk your dog. It is in the center of the island and you can walk to any restuarant on the main street within a few minutes. Good security. This is a great palce to do a stayover on your way to other places, we usually stay 2 nights. 2 things to remember here: All slips are bow in and all electric is 50 Amp. If you use 30 amp, alert them on your way in and they will have an adapter ready for you.

Update 5/29/13 we stayed here for 2 nights on Memorial Day. Chuck the dock hand was exceptionally helpful when we docked. The marina is 3/4 open. The first 2 fingers are closed for repairs both scheduled and damage due to Sandy. The showers were not working as thay are being repaired after Sandy, which was not a big deal to us.
Our favorite restaurant which was within walking distance, was not there, it had been washed out to sea by Sandy. We had awesome drinks, lobster and clam strips at our new favorite restaurant Sammy's Shrimp Box.The bartender, staff and food were awesome!! Wethen rode our folding bikes up and down the 1 mile mainstrip stopping in 3 great old time boat supply stores.

This marina and town have been through a lot, but have survived well!!!

Lovely people!, 2011-05-31

Simple facilities, decent prices, lovely people. The members of this club -- all I met -- fall over each other to be gracious and helpful to visitors.

Perfect location for touring City Island, 2011-05-25
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Dockmaster was helpful and transient rates are reasonable. Secure with a locked gate. 50 amp readily available. Walking distance to hardware & restaurants.

Secure Facility, 2010-01-03
Captain: , City Island (194)

One of 2 choices for me here on CI as a resident - due to security and privacy - - staff is courteous and condition of piers, docks, pilings, etc are excellent - club house is quite small and far from showering facilities - - showering facilities are not very private - - however on of 2 places that i would consider being in.

Nice spot, 2007-10-21
Captain: , Sarasota, FL - Newport, RI (435)

Very helpful staff with 24 hour coverage. Good slips with full length finger piers on both sides. Right in the middle of shops and restaurants on the island

Not fancy, very workable and deep entrance, 2007-02-22
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2310)

The staff did everything we need, and the location is perfect for visiting some of the outrageous restaurants on the south end.

Due to the arrangement of slips, it is easy to maneuver inside the marina even with a 46 foot sailboat with 9 foot draft. Only 3 stars, as I recall my daughter complaining about bathrooms not being clean.

I recall my daughter complaning about bathrooms not being clean.

Great Place to stop to visit City Island, 2007-02-04

Wrong place for the City Island Yacht Clubs, 2007-02-03
Captain: , Old Saybrook, CT (6)

Don't confuse this with the several real yacht clubs on City Island, all of which are on the other side of the Island. This one's a commercial operation.
