Reviews for South Harbour Village Marina
Great dock crew, 2017-09-19
Captain: , Little River, SC (754)

Beautiful marina, clean, well maintained, professionally run. Norm and Rick were extremely helpful from the moment we approached the dock to three days later when we left. Norm had my lines, water and electric nearly hooked up before I could disembark. It was a near perfect experience. Only minor problem was the pumpout was slow. Will definately recommend to friends. Has nice restaurants (2) (Joseph's is excellent, if a little pricey) and bar, but otherwise somewhat isolated.

spent a week here for repair, 2017-08-30
Captain: , michigan (10)

Everyone here was great, they were all very friendly and helpful. Good resteraunts with great service. I would highly recomend this marina to anyone in the area, hope to stop here again someday

Friendly and Helpful, 2017-07-29
Captain: , Olympia, WA (60)

We spent 3 1/2 months here getting our boat ready for the The Loop. The dockhands and manager Bill Gregory are terrific. Helpful and friendly, they clean the docks and facilities daily. The marina is newly dredged and the docks are maintained regularly. Highly recommended. Thank you for a great 3 1/2 months!

Great Spot, 2017-07-02

Great Restaurants on the grounds. Dockmaster goes out of his way to accommadate

A Magical Stop, 2017-06-28
Captain: , Redondo Beach, CA (10)

I sort of came upon this marina by accident. I'm so happy I did. They staff was incredibly accomodating and helpful from simple local knowledge to helping troubleshoot boat issues. Bill and Norm who run everything are simply the best. I've been to many marinas all around the globe and this is one of the few that I'm leaving and truly am going to miss. Facilities are excellent and there are bars and excellent restaurants less than 5 minute walk away. It also is a very safe place to leave your boat if that need arises. South Harbour Village Marina is a place I wish I could stay longer and one that I will be back to in a heartbeat when the time beckons.

I Wish All Marinas Could Be Like This One, 2017-06-26
Captain: , San Diego (20)

We liked this marina so much, we tried to buy a house that is just down the street from it. Not only is it easy to get into and get out of but all the facilities are top-notch. We felt like the staff bent over backwards to make our stay as pleasant hs possible and went the 'extra mile' to take care of every possible detail. We are definitely looking forward to going back.

Great Stop, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (986)

Update 6/11/17 - Great weekend visit. They have dredged the marina. No issues with depths. New dock staff are professional and knowledgeable about docking.

5/7/16 Update: Shallow waters have appeared inside. Arrived 1.5 hrs off high tide. Runway between A/B docks....2' depth at entrance to runway. Used thrusters to move off shoal. Bill was quick to offer alternative dockage. If you draw >4' beware of where you are asked to dock. All other comments still valId. Great stop, great restaurants.

Wonderful experience. Marina staff are top notch, willing to help make your stay enjoyable. On site restaurants were very good. Recommend this as a stop over.

Banged Against Dock All Night, 2017-05-27
Captain: , Nashville, TN (70)

We had reservations well in advance of our stay and requested to be put on inside of long facing dock. It had tons of room. They said no. We were slammed against the dock all night long by ICW traffic. We are 43' and this was the first time we had to pay for more, as they asked length of pulpit and swim platform, adding another 5'. Staff is friendly and helpful with docking. Beware the bathroom/shower: I locked the door and had a staff member bang on the door on two occasions and then, despite my calling out "occupied," he entered by pushing the handle jarringly over and over and pushing hard. I am a female. I was using the "family" restroom and shower because the ladies room was occupied. I did not appreciate his busting into the bathroom while I was using the toilet. I would not stay here again.

Nice marina with helpful staff, 2017-05-01
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1304)

This is a pleasent alternative to Southport and an easy trip(uber) to shopping. The docks are nice, electric works, and the staff excellent. The only shortcomings from a five star ratting are that they don't have a pool and they are right on the ICW with signs on the dock for no wake, but no markers on the channel/

Good stop outside Southport, 2017-04-25
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (380)

Stopped here because Southport needs dredging. Nice people, nice facilities, fun restaurant on-site and nice area for a walk. Still miss Southport, but not a bad alternative. Only reason for the 4 is the passing wakes, which can be pretty intense.

good service, 2017-03-30
Captain: , Annapolis,MD (90)

1st time here, and dock assistant was waiting after vhf call. Plenty of room to rotate our vessel inside face dock.No fuel, replacing lines, and stopped at Southport for that, which was no reponse to the radio, and an employee with no boating knowledge.
I would like to add that their fuel system is again up and running. Dredging some areas of marina, thus call early for reservations

Friendly and Great , 2017-02-12
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (451)

This is a great marina with very helpful dockhands, which are essential because of moderate current most of the time. If you are not comfortable handling your, they will advise you and compensate. If you are good at handling your boat, I suggest you tell them what you want them to do for you, such as docking into the current.
They will do anything to make your visit perfect! The two restaurants are great and the place is very dog friendly. Their deep water and easy access makes this an ideal fueling station before going out the Cape Fear Inlet in a deep draft boat. Their prices a very reasonable too!

Great place, 2017-01-27
Captain: , Dover DE (144)

We came in just before Christmas and discovered engine issues. Eventually we had the engine repaired. We were going to leave several weeks ago, but the weather didn't cooperate and we came back inside on the same dock. We have actually been here two months. It is a bit expensive as a transient, and they charge for "overall length" instead of whatever your USCG docs state.

There are daily, weekly and monthly fees. The personnel are nice, helpful and informative.

Docks on the ICW get waked constantly (use extra lines and fenders), and the current when tide is coming in or out is swift and will pull you away from the docks.

Showers and restrooms are cleaned daily. Showers are in the restrooms. There is a Lady's Room, Men's Room, and a "handicap" room.

Laundry has two dryers and two washers, and is clean.

The facedock has room for several large boats, and the water depths are generally around 17' or deeper at high tide.

Southport proper is a wonderful little town. We visited several eating establishments (but had to have a car to visit various places). If you're walking, there is a small, used boat parts/consignment shop about a mile away.

There are a dozen or more good restaurants in the town.

One excellent, and we highly recommend it, Brew Pub called "Check Six Brew Company" (Microbrews, started off as a homebrewing group and became a company.) They are about 3-4 miles from the marina, and you will need a car, taxi, uber or a friend to give you a ride.

There's a grill/pub at the top of the hill called Dead End Saloon. Ok, but not my first choice of eating - but close and easy to walk too. There is also an Italian restarunt at the top of the marina, but they are pricey.

Will stay here again if we can come back with a slip at seasonal rates.

NICE PLACE, 2017-01-24
Captain: , Nyack, NY (646)

We often stop in Southport. Friends were here so we joined them at this marina. Very professional service. We love the village, and this is further than we prefer, but friends had a car and we enjoyed the Thai Restaurant. We were on the outside, subject to wake and noise at all hours. Of course it sits right ON the ICW so it's easy on and off. Would stay here again since there is good food on site.

Fantastic service, 2016-12-15
Captain: , Dartmouth (80)

S/Y Blew Beyond.

Many thanks to Bill and his team for a faultless stay. The marina facilities were good, plenty of water at the dock for our 7ft draft. The two local restaurants were good as well, especially the Italian. UBER is available locally, Hertz car hire only a miles walk away to the local airport. Marina residents offered to take us to the supermarket as well.

Not what we expected, 2016-10-30
Captain: , New Bern, NC (10)

Well, followed the advice of the reviews and were severely disappointed. To start with we were given a price per foot and when we got the bill, it did not add correctly. Questioned it first with the dockhand and said "they routinely add 6 ft to your boat length to account for Davits and bowsprits." I stated that I had neither and he referred me to the other dockhand. This man told me if I wanted he would come measure the boat with his wheel. He came down and looked at the boat and agreed with me and the builder that the boat measured 42 feet. He agreed to adjust the bill but then showed up the next day with his measuring wheel. Surprisingly, the boat measured 42 feet as I'd told him. They did adjust the bill but come on, this is not how to treat customers. We were told the marina was going to fill up so they placed us at the far end of the outside dock. After 2 days, we've seen a handful of boats come in but far from full. On a weekend, if you are on the outside, expect to be constantly waked by passing boats who pay no attention to the large "No Wake" signs. Restrooms were clean but that's about it. Laundry room is clean and serviceable. I think there are much better marina choices in this area for a small increase in price. In my opinion; skip this one.

True Southern Charm, 2016-09-27
Captain: , Ellicott city MD (10)

We have stayed here many times
Of the past few years. Easy dockage, great staff, and both on site restaurants are perfect.
We have friends that live in Southport so the marina makes a perfect stop for entertaining
Check out my buddy Reverand Dan playing his heart out at the fishy fish

Loved this place, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Tracys Landing, MD (266)

Stayed here as transient before moving a Cat down to the Bahamas. The restaruant was great with fantastic service. The wind was blowing a gale the night before departure, but there were zero waves in our slip. The marina was well protected. Just a couple of miles down the road is a new grocery store for provisions. Easy to get to. Will be back!

Excellent Dive Service/Prop RepairAvailable, 2016-08-17
Captain: , Denton, TX (435)

Ran aground at an inlet south of the marina. Called ahead to J&J Dive Service and they came promptly after I finally arrived at South HarborVillage Marina. It was a Friday but props were pulled and taken to the shop. Repairs were completed on Monday and the boat has never ran so smoothly. Good job by J&J and thier prop shop!

Captain: , Savannah, GA (330)

Escorted my wife up to Joseph's for her Birthday Dinner. Service, wine and food were excellent. Casual attire even with table cloths and flowers on each table. Best Italian food on the waterway. Now take the other reviews concerning the marina and staff and you have a win-win experience.

South Harbour - Excellent Marina, 2016-07-23
Captain: , Southport, NC (40)

We are in Southport NC for several months during the year and always work to stay at South Harbour. Bill Gregory and his staff are always on top of things and the Marina is always very clean. I would recommend the Marina to ICW and blue water sailors and powerboaters.

great place to stay , 2016-07-21

Short Term or Long Term-Great Marina, 2016-06-22
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

Good depths, Fuel, Pump out, Two restaurants, clean shore facilitites, and a friendly very helpful staff are all things that we want in a marina. South Harbour has it all. I have stayed at other marinas in Southport, and they are fine, but this one stands out. Very easy dockage if you are a transient and staying overnight. In our case, we are staying for over 10 days, therefore the monthly rate is the best and it is very reasonable and includes electricity.
You are not in Southport as this marina lies two miles to the west, but I found this marina suited us very well.

Nice Place!, 2016-05-10
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (490)

After a long day on the ICW, we met Abby and JD upon arrival. They could not have more professional even though they were extremely busy! They even helped us find a vet for our newest crew member Rhett Butler!
Stayed an extra night because of the vet visit and we are glad we did. This is one of the nicer towns on the East Coast with great food. We will be back!

Staff is great, 2016-05-09
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We came in and had trouble with the tidal current, but there were two dockside staff to help us and they expertly tied us up safely. We went up to the restaurant for some well-deserved cocktails and a nice meal and we had a perfect evening. Yes, we would come back.

Great Customer Service - Above and Beyond, 2016-05-02
Captain: , Gloucester, MA USA (80)

We arrived late (7:30pm) due to a halyard jam. After fixing the halyard we hailed alternative marina several times, no reply. Bill jumped on the VHF and offered us dockage and then proceeded to wait anouther 20 minutes for us to wind our way into their location. Fanatstic crab cakes at the neighboring bar & grill. Thank you South Harbour Village Marina! Turned our a unpleasent arrival into a great marina experience.

Good quality float docks, nice water pressure, easy access.

This place is the best, 2016-05-01
Captain: , Oxford, MD (392)

We stopped here on our way south. Have done so in the past and have always received the best care. Two years ago, they crawled out on the dock on their hands and knees and chopped ice off so we could dock after an ice storm. This time we had an electirical issue and the people they recommended to help us were superb. Very responsive and knowledgable. Bill continually checked in to make sure we were getting what we needed and all parties communicated beautifully. Had the opportunity to eat at both restaurants. Joseph's is amazing and the more casual one was good as well. While not as convenient to Southport as Southport marina, had no problem getting a taxi when we needed and was very reasonable. Also easier to dock here. This is a place we will always come back to. Well worth the stop

Why go elsewhere?, 2016-04-20
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (480)

When we first arrived, I was hesitant to tie up on the outside of the face dock for fear of being rocked by the wakes of passing boats. But most (though not all) of them slowed down, even a large barge didn't cause any real discomfort or concern, and there was essentially no traffic after sundown. Beyond that, the other recent reviews are spot on - Bill Gregory is the perfect host, the grounds and facillities are clean, and the Italian restaurant, Joseph's, was quite good. We'd definitely visit again.

April 20, 2016 - We did visit again, this time requesting to tie up on the inside of the face dock, but it doesn't seem to matter - and perhaps somewhat ironically, the only boat that really rocked us (first passing southbound, and then a little later northbound) had a red diagonal stripe on its forward quarter and was piloted by a bunch of guys in blue uniforms. Most everyone else went by slowly. Tried the more casual Dead End Saloon this time and were well-pleased with the meal. Still a good stop.

I agree with everyone., 2016-03-02
Captain: , Wanchese NC (30)

Really nice marina. Can't say anything bad and I agree with all of the previous reviews. Didn't try the italian rest but we have been to The Dead End Rest. on site several times and it is well worth it. Will be back.

Good Transient Marina & Resturant, 2016-02-07
Captain: , Fort Myers, Florida (687)

Easy access to floating dock along ICW. Pumpout, water, fuel, 30 & 50 service all right there. Best part is Joseph's Italian Bistro 400' away! Outstanding Italian Cuisine & Steaks. Dinner and a craft beer was $25-30. Thought about staying a second night just for the food. Will be stopping at Joseph's again and the marina also.

I wish I could give this spot 10 stars., 2016-01-03
Captain: , Eastport, MD (161)

I live on the hook but needed to get friends and family on and off of the boat while visiting here on the path south, so I bit the bullet and took a transient slip. Man, was this the right choice.

This spot is clean, a bargain, well run, and I coasted into a cushy spot in 17' of current-free water with staff at the ready to help me tie off. I have never run across such friendly, genuinely nice folks. THEY thanked ME for letting them know I was singlehanding. What planet is this?

Diesel was a tad higher than other spots but geography seems to do that to petroleum. $1.20/ft less 10% Boat US for a transient slip is just ridiculously good, and rarely seems to come attached to a decent marina with nice folks. Hats off to Bill, Bob & crew for doing it right. Free wifi was blazing fast and strong at the docks. Had dinner my last night up at Dead End Saloon which is right next to the dock office. They did a really solid job. Much better than the standard breaded & fried crap often available near marinas. Also Southport is a cute town, just down the street.

If you need or want a marina spot in the Southport/Oak Island area, this is your jam.

Nice Marina and Restaurant, 2015-12-23
Captain: , Hampton, Virginia (289)

Easy access Marina about a mile south of the river entrance. Very helpful staff, can't beat the price, and in slip fueling was very convenient. The Italian restaurant onsite was very good. Would have given it five stars if it had been a little closer to stores, but the marina manager would have been more than happy to drive us there.

excellent stop, 2015-12-15
Captain: , Halifax, NS (111)

Marina and Joseph's Restaraunt very good. Zimermans sent a tech out to start engine (battery issue). No charge. Thanks for the excellent experience. Some Nice 3

Very convenient - nice stop over spot, 2015-11-16
Captain: , Hingham, MA (1079)

Very simple approach - easy in/out - directly on the ICW. The dockmaster is great - his expert line handling made this the easiest docking ever (and he had treats for our dog - which is always a bonus); he also gave us helpful advise for the next stretch of the ICW. Facilities are very clean and lots of grass for the dog.
Dead End Saloon has good food, great for watching sports, and has a family dining area.

Great great great, 2015-11-11
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

Easy face dock, even on the inside where it is a bit more protected, as the fairways are wide. Friendly and competent dock master. The adjacent Dead End Saloon / Grill was really good. Also large park - Dutchman Creek Park perfect for your dog.

Great Marina, Staff outstanding, 2015-10-29
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (45)

Traveling south on the ICW we made reservation in the morning arrived at 15:00 greeted by Jack who was very helpful and informative about facilities and local eateries. Showers and laundry very clean, not to be missed

Good & easy stop, 2015-10-14
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Easy in & out right on ICW. Surprisingly little wake. Water at dock was 20 feet at low. Rate was $1.20 minus 10% Boat US plus $11 for a 100 amp electric plug. Outstanding electric and very cordial and helpful staff. WIFI available, no charge, no code.

10-13-15 Stayed here again, same report, Mgr. Bill Gregory is very cordial and makes you feel welcome.

Great Staff, Great Service, Inexpensive Transient Slip Fees, 2015-09-28
Captain: , Middle River, Maryland (69)

I have kept our small sailboat in this marina nearly every year since 2005 while in the area on vacation. Here now for 2 months. Bill Gregory and his staff are fantastic. The facilities are first rate and immaculately kept. First class Italian restaurant (Joseph's) a few steps from the dock. For lighter fair in a more casual atmosphere, the Dead End Sallon is great. Owner is from Maryland and makes real Maryland crab cakes as good as I've had anywhere in Maryland. Plus, their slip fees are the cheapest in the area.

One of the best, 2015-08-07
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

03/17/15 - We would not think of passing through Southport with out stopping here.
Over the years we have gotten to know the excellent staff and can count on the best service ever.
Ditto the wake problem on the fuel dock, we took several hard hits this time, so use plenty of fenders.
when the Cape Fear River was really kicking and not a good choice, we returned to the dock and although we stayed a good part of the day, we were not charged another penny! Bravo guys!!

great marina/great restaurants, 2015-07-27
Captain: , Annapolis (35)

long fuel dock. stayed the night. power boaters on the ICW need to observe no wake zone. Dead end saloon and fish factory grill is within steps and awesome food!! order scampi and crab cakes (owner from maryland)! bathrooms great. bill is the best!!!

Great stop for a night or longer, 2015-06-25
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

We left our boat at this marina while we took a break and headed home for a few weeks. The people couldn't have been nicer and we felt very comfortable leaving our boat in their care. Very nice facility, with restaurants on site.

South Harbour Village Marina, 2015-05-13
Captain: , jupiter,fl (140)

We stayed at this marina Wednesday night and could not have had a more pleasant experience. When we called for a reservation, Jim was so nice and friendly. When we pulled in, the winds were strong but Kip was great and extrememly helpful when we docked. The Marina manager, Bill, is also a really nice guy. The floating docks are in great shape and at least two restaurants are right at the marina. We will definitely be back. Yavhta....Yachta

Good clean, well-run marina, 2015-05-13
Captain: , Louisiana (554)

We stayed here both before & after our yard period, since Bill Gregory offered us special arrangements. Bill & his assistants are all great people, and try their best to make the boaters feel right at home. they like to have a good time.
the one possible downside of docking here is that it is exposed to the wakes of all the dummies going past on the ICW.
If you see Bill, talk to him about how great Univ of Michigan is, and he'll be your friend for life. I made the mistake of being an OSU Buckeye & we teased each other for the rest of the week.

Great stop for over night or the winter, 2015-05-04
Captain: , Deale, MD. (10)

We had made a couple of overnight fuel stops and liked it so much that when we wanted to winter somewhere short of Florida, this was the obvious choice.

The manager, Bill, runs a very smooth operation with the assistance of a great crew. He makes sure you have his cell number if you need anything.

The Dead End Saloon is good for simple fare and Joseph's is a first class Italian restrauant.

The LONG fuel dock makes for easy in/out on overnight fuel stop. Dog friendly with plenty of places to walk.

Just An Excellent Experience, 2015-04-12
Captain: , Hampton, VA (453)

We pulled in here after leaving the GeorgeTown area and called ahead to let the marina know we would be there in about 20 minutes. Upon arriving the Dock Master, Bill, was there at the dock to assist with the docking of our sailboat. Bill is excellent and knows the water and current so he provides good information on how to approach and get ones boat docked. The marina is clean and has excellent showers...good place next door to eat and have a drink. With a wifi booster we are able to watch NetFlix on the boat so was a definite plus. An overall positive experience and this will be on our places to stop in the future as we make our way south and north from staying in the Bahamas.

Nice friendly marina, 2015-04-06
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

I was transiting North and wanted to stop and rest for the night in a reasonably priced marina. Service was excellent with them helping me dock & tie up as I was by myself. Resonable prices and clean facilities were a big plus. Cable TV was available so I was able to watch my home teams play. Fairly good selection of channels on cable including sports. The other boaters staying at the marina were nice and friendly. Being able to go to two close resturants another plus. Easy docking on the long pier was another plus being without crew &easy to leave also.

Outstanding Restaurants, 2015-03-27
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

Plenty of fuel or day dockage space to hang on the docks or head into Josephs or DeadEnd Saloon. Most vessel's observe the no wake here which is a plus since the basin is not sheltered.

A well run Marina!, 2015-03-19

Stayed for about 6 days (ending on 16 December 2014) Staff were efficient, keep the place spotless (little things, like walking the docks in the morning cleaning off the bird poop). Fuel was a bit pricy at $3.49/gal but weigh that against the very reasonable dockage fee.

Back in mid March headiing north. Another excellent stop. Joseph's restaurant has excellent Italian cuisine. Dead End Saloon is pretty good for quick fare and both are a two minute walk from the T. dock. Good showers, and wireless was good as well.

A $12 cab ride to Southport. The Napa store is the only place to buy marine supplies (if you need supplies, then Wrightsville Beach has the WMarine).

Two restaurants. Josephs has excellent Italian food and the Dead End Bar has great clams and they know how to cook Grouper -- the local favorite).

Strongly recommend!

We are not really marina people, but when we ghosted out of our anchorage this morning the fog was so thick we decided it wasn't safe to travel so we pulled into the Southport Harbour Village Marina, and we are very glad we did. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the facilities are clean, well maintained and easy to access. WI-FI works every where on the premises and all for a price that makes sense. If you are looking for a marina in the Southport NC area, make this your first call.

Ranger Tug Transmission Problem, 2015-02-01
Captain: , Myrtle beach, sc (10)

While traveling the intracoastal from NC to SC, transmission problem found us stranded at South Harbour Village Marina on a Sunday. Dockmaster Bill Gregory was very helpful and assisted us with finding a Yanmar Mechanic, a ride to our car, and watched over our boat for 5 nights while we waited at home in Myrtle Beach for the repair. This marina is first rate, with clean restrooms and showers, two great restaurants, and friendly staff who will help you in any way they can.

Bill, the dock master, puts service back into a service based industry. Something nearly lost elsewhere. Great stay on 11Jan 15 heading to Florida. Bill stayed late to catch us at the dock (can have a pretty good flow past here) and really made us feel at home. Clean showers and hot water - the mark of civilization, were well received. Prices here are 30% less than just up the ICW. Well maintained docks, close (and great) places to eat, clean showers, and friendly people. Glad to be back home in the South.

Southern Hospitality, 2014-12-09
Captain: , Boston (10)

I was delivering a 55 Beneteau Sense to Charleston Sc from New England this Nov/Dec 2014, And encountered a few issues along the way, one being a motherboard on the fly by wire throttle control unit left the throttle wide open. so with no wind to sail on, and no motor to move us, we were just floating around 45 miles off Cape Fear North Carolina. after contacting the Coast Guard to contact a tow company for us, Sea Tow arrived and pulled us the 45 miles into Southport SC in pea soup fog.. amazing job by SeaTow.. While being towed and staying in contact with SeaTow along the way on VHF. SeaTow contacted South Harbour Village Marina to see if they could accommodate us..
With a 6 hour tow ahead of us, Bill the marina manager stayed in contact with SeaTow for our status, they even waited until we arrived under tow at night in thick fog and tied us up. I have never experienced hospitality like this before, and I have been up and down the entire East Coast. from SeaTow right down to South Harbour Village Marina..
I highly recommend South Harbour Village Marina to anyone heading south, via the Atlantic Ocean or the Inter-coastal waterway, they go above and beyond the call of duty, true Southern Hospitality..... And I must also mention, there are 2 restaurants at the marina, and the food is outstanding...After the rough and frustrating issues, it was nice to have an amazing meal at Josephs Italian Restaurant right at the docks.
And on a side note, the problem we had was a motherboard on the throttle control unit which was diagnosed by Al from Bennet Brothers Yachts, who was contacted by Seatow while towing us and met us at 7am the next morning and had the problem fixed with in an hour.. So if repair is needed here at South Harbour Village Marina, Bennet Bros Yachts will come right to the marina. When Bill from the marina heard that Al from Bennet Brothers was coming, he assured me that he will figure this out and we are in good hands.. Thank you again South Harbour Village Marina, SeaTow, and Bennet Brothers Yachts... You have a new friend here...

Awesome stop. Not Too Far, 2014-12-08
Captain: , Nashville, TN (320)

We came into South Harbour in the dark and in the pouring rain. A cold and miserable rain and Bill was standing on the dock ready to take our lines. I told him not to wait since we'd be so late. Told him we'd be fine to tie up on our own. He said, "No way... this is what we do. I'm gonna wait for you captain."

The whole place was great. Good showers, nice floating docks and great laundry area. It's not far from Southport and I think they had a couple bikes. Hank at cYc provides a cheap shuttle optioin that will take you anywhere you need for 15 bucks!

The other great thing about this place is the Dead End Saloon is right at the end of the dock. The best crab chowder I've ever had! So, if you wanna get in late in the day but don't feel like messing with going into town or feel like cooking... it's a perfect stop. We stayed two days waiting out weather and will stay again if back that way.

Top Rated Marina, 2014-11-26

Dock hanks are knowledgable and always available. Full 500 ft transient dock makes stopping in for fuel easier than any other local marina. 2 of the best restaurants in the area in the marina make it a great stop over.

Excellent Service - Very Impressed!, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Nashville (315)

After losing some time at a couple of the bridges that we didn't quite make, our eta got pushed back and we realized we wouldn't be arriving to Southport until after dark - around 6pm or so.

We called to offer to give our card info and that we'd just dock ourselves and we were told that it was their policy to wait for incoming boaters no matter what. When we arrived in the dark, Bill was waiting for us in the rain and was extremely helpful in taking our lines and getting us safely docked.

He told us not to worry about settling up that night, just to get dry and get on up to the Dead Head Saloon before they closed for a drink and a hot dinner. He said we could just settle up in the morning.

The next morning, we met Dave, who saw that I had a trash bag in my hand and he came over, introduced himself and took the trash from me. I was on my way up to the showers and asked if we could settle up and he told me to just go take my shower, he'd be around all day (we were staying an extra night to wait out weather).

They have been extremely helpful and professional - something that is so truly appreciated when you've come in soaking wet and tired from a long day.

It's a little off the beaten path from downtown, but they have free bikes to use (nice ones) and with the awesome Dead Head Saloon and the Italian place (which we'll try tonight) just at the end of the dock, you don't need to even venture far for a good meal. We will definitely stay here again next time we're in Southport.

09 OCT 2014- We spent one night and will come back. The staff was great and helpful. It was enjoyable to come to a marina and have someone who knew how to tie up a boat. When I mentioned I needed a diver they were ready to make a call to have someone there. Great food within walking distance; if you like Italian food, Joseph%u2019s is a great place to eat. Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (736)

Very reasonably priced with Boat US discount. East on and off fuel and pump out dock. Stayed on T-head dock so we didn't have deal with current inside the basin. Call marina before coming in, they can help you with current and wind on approach. Deadend Saloon had good food and TVs. Easy dinghy into Southport without being right in the middle of things.

After staying in all of the other more well known local marinas, we ended up here when it was too rough to get into Bald Head and Southport didn't have room. Great luck for us.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful, including (famously) staying until after 8 PM to ensure we were in safely (with a mechanical issue). Restaurants were great, local stores were a short bike ride away, and we even celebrated our anniversary by renting a biplane. And the price was right for everything. The liveaboards couldn't have been nicer to both us and our golden retriever.

I really recommend this marina!

Southport Harbor Village Marina, 2014-05-03
Captain: , Sandwich (722)

Directly on the ICW. Nice floating docks, cable, wifi. Fairly clean showers/bath facilities. The best attraction to this marina is Joseph's Italian Restaurant. A must stop for an excellent Italian meal with plenty of left overs to make a second meal.

Great Prices, 2014-04-29
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

South Harbour Village Marina is a bargain ($1.20 per ft. Boat US) Gas, Diesel, pumpout, 30 & 50 amp service, water, cable TV, floating docks, laundry ($1.00 per load), two restaurants, WIFI. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The transient face dock is directly on the AICW and about 90% of boaters in this area don't slow down for no wake zones.
Doesn't get 5 stars because the location is far from old town Southport.

We stopped here for an overnight rest heading south. We didn't call or radio and as we were pulling up to dock, help was already waiting on dock. We have never been thanked as many times for patronizing a business. We received a 10% discount on everything and we're NOT charged for our bowsprit or dinghy. As we were unloading our garbage and we're getting ready to make the trip up to the cans they insisted we need not worry about it and promptly hauled it away for us. We were reminded that they were a full service dock and if there was anything else we needed please let them know. They were helpful in every way. All businesses could learn a lesson in customer service from these guys!

Captain: , Santa Cruz, CA (150)

Bought a sailboat here. Decided to stay a month before heading south. Was a great decision. Bill, Jim, Dave and all the other staff could not have been nicer. Clean bathrooms, as in cleaned daily! Nice laundry facility. Easy to get mail and fedex. Plenty of parking and free bikes to use for transients. All around great spot. Grocery stores are a few miles away. But there's fresh shrimp daily on d dock from a local shrimper. Two restaurants in the marina. The cheaper one we visited twice a week and some weekends there's live music. Will go back for sure, thx SHVM

The Real Deal?, 2013-11-02
Captain: , Essex, CT (1245)

Updated 10/31/13 from 5 stars to 3 stars:

With each return visit, another "shoe drops". Last time, we called in early to reserve a spot & confirmed "the outside of the face dock" (as we'd seen boats inside struggle if strong winds & current, along with the fact it's easier to slip away at dawn from the outside). Told no problem but on arrival, with the outside face less than 1/2 full, were told we had to go inside as a larger boat needed the outside.

This time we got the outside, but couldn't figure out how we were charged (they don't give receipts except for the C/C). After the 3rd time when it still didn't add up, he said "oh - I added 10' to your length - 5' for your dinghy & 5' for your bowsprit"! Well on our catamaran the dinghy is actually indented slightly from the sterns & the bow sprit we can easily retract in (but never been an issue before). In fact at our next marina (Barefoot Marina) I asked about this & he just laughed.

So realize that while the rate is low (actually just lowered), you may be arbitrarily charged an arbitrary 5' or 10' without mention.

Original post:
Dave was great, first on the phone with our reservation, then in person with docking & all of his help along the way. Right on-site is an excellent Italian restaurant (Joseph's) not to be missed.

A 2 mile walk brings you to a large, new Lowes Foods supermarket, with stops at an excellent bakery & fish market on the way (taxi back if you want).

Overall, an excellent, reasonably priced stop.

We were going to anchor off the cape fear river but the windlass wouldn't respond and we unexpectedly needed a marina at 7:30pm. Even though there are multiple marinas in the area, all of them had gone home for the evening (we later found that most close at 6pm). Bill from South Harbour heard me make multiple radio calls and finally told me that the other marinas were closed but he would stick around for the hour it would take us to get to him. He was there when we arrived and helped us tie up with a smile. Great guy, great facility.

A Great Place To Stop!, 2013-05-16
Captain: , South Portland, ME (30)

We have just spent a month here due to weather delays and spending time with friends. The facility is top-notch, and with 2 excellent restaurants on site, this is the best value in Southport. Bill and his staff go out of their way to accommodate every need, and the excellent rates are a plus. A local dive shop (J&J Boat Services) changed our zincs and cleaned the bottom at a very reasonable rate. All in all, this is one of the best marinas we have stopped at on the ICW.

Very nice marina and great staff, 2013-05-12
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (578)

Came in here to avoid a storm and found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. The price per foot is very good and the shoreside facilities are most adequate. Showers ran out of hot water after about eight minutes but could have been a very busy day. Cost of laundry was cheap but facilities were good. We would go there again if visiting the town were not a priority.

Handy Location, 2013-05-06

We made an unanticipated stop here in March, due to dirty fuel. The facility and personnel were great. There are transient slips on the outside along the ICW. Bathrooms and showers, laundry were first rate.

Good stop!, 2013-04-22
Captain: , Worton Creek, MD (60)

We took the free dock at the Provision Company and headed out the next morning to the Cape Fear River. Turned back immmediately due to rough conditions. Southport Marina had no transient dockage available so wound up here at SHV Marina. GOOD MOVE!!! The staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. 2 restaurants on site (only Dead End Saloon is open on Sunday); clean & reasonable washers and dryers; heads/showers are new and clean. WIFI signal is reliable and can be reached from the transient dock. This marina is very pet friendly, providing doggie doo-doo bags, and treats for your pup :) Large park a short walk from the marina where dogs are welcome (again, doo-doo bags provided).

Grocery and services are a bit of a hike, and taxi service is pricey - $10.00 to go 2 miles - but the good parts of this marina outweigh the taxi costs.
There are several fuel pumps along the transient dock and prices are competitive.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it highly.

Attitude problem, 2013-02-17
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

We called on the radio as we passed by thinking of stopping for the night. Asked about gas price and any discount. Were told to come in and find out, they couldn't discuss on the radio as per FCC regs. I never heard you could not answer a direct question on air. Anyway the attitude radiated through loud and clear so we passed by.

Easy approach to fuel dock in almost any conditions, 2013-01-12
Captain: , Marietta GA (416)

The long face dock parallel to current makes stopping for fuel easy.

Staff was helpful and competent at handling lines. Fuel price was competitive for the area and they offer a Boat Us discount according to the sign tied to the dock. I forgot to ask about the discount and they forgot to mention it.

Captain: , Charleston SC (743)

We stayed here tonight. Unfortunately we purchased fuel closer to Cape Fear river and then found better prices here. Competent staff helped us tie up very professionally. The dockmaster (from Michigan originally) was friendly until he noted I was from know Buckeyes and Wolverines... He was a great guy, patient and humorous. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. 12 feet of water on the face dock at MLW and an easy approach into the tide stream from either direction.

This is a great marina. Gary & Bill could not have been more friendly and helpful - from the inital radio contact to getting tied up at the dock etc. Good well organised, informative web site set the right note we me to start with - clearly listing facilities, prices, discounts etc (many other marinas could take note). We had a quiet night on the inside of the transient dock. Marina is very clean and well maintained. We had a good meal at the Dead End Saloon while clothes washing was underway. We look forward to trying the Italian resturant next year when we come back up north. Great place, freindly staff -we will definetly be returning here!

Friendly Competent Staff, 2012-11-06

We stayed here for two nights and found the dockmasters to be extremely helpful in tying up and letting you know what was available. There are two restaurants onsite and Joeseph's is excellent. We have eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. Wakes from passing boates can be a problem. We were on the inside of the transient dock and after the sun went down everything was quiet. We'll be back!

10/25/12: A warm welcome was repeated. And, upon arrival we lost our bow thruster. Within minutes, Gary called a diver - JJs. JJs called for parts within hours that arrived the next day, and, were installed. They do more than dive!,, 1-910-616-0959.

We had the same great experience this week (as follows, from our stop last fall). Dave and Bill welcomed us with open arms. We appreciate the ease of docking on a face dock, the cleanliness of the docks and facilities, the fresh breeze, and, the quiet mates. For those of you who need to wash delicates --- the marina now has a front loader washer! Last Fall: Dave and Stuart were very accommodating and efficient (regarding what services were available, dockage, bicycle borrowing, etc.). The marina is clean and easy to dock. The laundry and restrooms were clean, pleasant, and easy to access. The grocery stores are an easy bicycle ride. Joseph's restaurant, on site, was a surprise delight!! Thank you. We'll be back!

Overnight Stay 2012-10-05, 2012-10-06
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

43 foot boat for $68 including electric. Two restaurants on site, both were recommended. We ate at the Bar and Grill and passed on the Italian restaurant. Wished we would have gone o the Italian place as the bar and grill was barely average. Marina was professional and friendly. Facilities were first class. It did not have a down home feel. Transients are placed on the ICW side of a long floating dock. We were placed furthest from land with lots of empty space nearer the land and restaurants. I asked why and Dockmaster said previous reservations were in the empty spaces. Two large boats did come in later but there was plenty of emplty space to get us closer to the land and even more space on the iinside of the dock which would have made for less wake action from boats on the ICW. Appeared they were more interested in what worked for them instead of pleasing me.

Excellent marina, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

Clean bath/showers, VERY helpful staff, fuel prices are not the MOST competitive, and the outside wall (often used for transients) can be a little bumpy during the day due to ICW, but peaceful at night and EXTREMELY easy tie up. Both on site restaurants are very good. WalMart is about 3.5 miles away, but an EXCELLENT fish market and bakery (sweets only, no bread) are about a mile.

This is the second time that we stopped at SHVM. The first was the fall of 2011 when we had to leave our sailboat for almost six months due to a family situation. The boat was well looked after by Bill and his docklands. They kept me informed of any issues that needed to be addressed and recommended service people to take care of normal boating issues. The marina is well maintained and staffed with very nice, helpful folks. Fuel doci is an easy approach and prices are reasonable for the area. I can't say enough about this place and highly recommend it.

Wakes and rough water, 2012-05-05
Captain: , Red Lion, DE (712)

2012-05-04 Older dockhand was very nasty to 1st mate yelling at her to throw the dock line or the stern would go too far out. !st mate had to go 40' aft after throwing the bow line and the wind was blowing us against the dock anyway. We did not appreciate his attitude!
The little brochure they gave us at sign-in touts this marina as a "state-of-the-art" marina. We have docked and stayed at 91 different marinas during our cruising years and by comparison found this one to be very average. No security.
Wind against the tide made the waters quite rough on the outside of the face dock and a lot of wakes until around 11pm and again early in the morning. Won't stay here again.

GOOD STOP ON THE ICW, 2012-04-07
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (343)

Nice marina. Long face dock on the ICW is for transients and there were a few wakes, but not bad and none after dark. Resturants on premesis; we enjoyed one. Thought diesel price was average. Dockmaster very helpful upon arrival and providing local information.

Good stop in Southport, 2012-03-15
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

Very reasonably priced compared to other Southport marinas and I do not care for the local anchorages except the town basin which is often full.

Stayed here 4 times now and no complaints. You will get waked occationally on the facedock they put transients on, but not really at night. I dont discount stars for the wake though because I personally like the ease of access on and off of the face dock and accept the wakes as a worthwhile tradeoff.

Only reason not 5 stars is a marina has to be either in quick walking distance of grocery/supplies or offer a courtesy ride to get them.

The proprietor saw us and opened up again and we bought lots of things we shouldn't have bought but they were excellent!! Two geocaches very close by for those who play the game. Showers hot and strong and clean. Laundry only $1.25 for each. Two restaurants walking distance from the dock. $1.35 a foot - good price. Power, TV, Wi-Fi at the dock. Water too. Excellent stopover.

We couldn't ask for more. Newer facilities, clean and well maintained. Hot showers, laundry and all of the usuals. The dockmaster was great. We needed to exchange a propane tank, and he volunteered to drive me down at the end of his shift. We REALLY needed that propane to heat the boat with all of the Arctic temps lately and this was a life saver for the walking distance would have been 4+ miles. Please patronize this establishment. The bar and grill on site was good too.

Great Stay, 2010-11-11
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (778)

All the previous reviews are correct, it is a great place, the treatment by the dockmasters is great. The laundry is very nice and is the lowest price we have seen since leaving the Great Lakes. There are however a few crazies who do not know what "No Wake" means, so fender well.

Captain: , Houston, Texas (164)

We highly recommend this marina. Great service and excellent fuel prices. The dock rate when we stayed was $1.35 per foot and then a 10% Boat US discount is applied to that total. Electric is $4 for 30 amp. They also offer 5 cents off per gallon of fuel when you show your Boat US card. We sincerely appreciate Bill and George's (the dockmasters) hospitality. WE hav read an article that states starting July 1, 2010, that all boaters must have a pumpout plan/schedule in the state of North Carolina. This marina offers easy pump out access for $5 and be sure to get a receipt to document that you received a pump out at this location. Captains Bill and JoAnne S/V ULTRA

All around transient friendly place. Nice little deli on site. Newer docks and clean fuel. Most transients tie up alongside the main dock, very easy to get in/out. We have been stopping here both ways each year. The crew is always very helpful and friendly. They are in the process of putting in WIFI ! They have a little now but are putting in a top shelf set up. There is a new restaurant "Josephs" Great Italian food.

Pretty good transient dockage..., 2007-04-20

We stayed here for one night in April 2007. It is very convenient and directly on the ICW just south of the Cape Fear River. The facilities are very nice and the staff was excellent. We met many people on their boats all around the docks - it is a very friendly place.

There is a nice deli at the facility for lunch and a nice Italian restaurant right there also. Other than that, there isn't much that is walking distance.

For transients, most people will use this as a quick place to pull in and take off the next day. It definitely meets those needs at a competitive price.
