Reviews for South Harbor
South Harbor - Petersburg, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Kirkland, WA (4478)

July 2016 - Petersburg's three harbors remain great places to stop for short or extended stays. The harbormaster is very helpful and everyone in town is friendly. Grocery shopping is good in Petersburg and there are several hardware store options. However, the options for dining are rather limited.

South Harbor, along with North Harbor and Middle Harbor are managed by Petersburg Harbormaster who is very good at accomodating requests for specific locations. South Harbor is further from town but still within easy walking distance to town. The docks are not quite as new as the North Harbor but in good condition. All of the Petersburg docks include a mix of recreational and working boats. The town is delightful and the people are wonderful.

This is a fishing town, 2016-07-05
Captain: , Whittier Alaska (609)

Hotshot for recreational cruisers. The dock is in good condition but watch out for boats and gear. Lots of activity here. This small community wants to attract recreational cruisers. Nordhavan rondy this month.

BE WARNED! Heavy current here. Best to plan your departure at or near slack. We were pinned against the dock for a few hours.

Good provisioning stop, 2015-07-22
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (955)

There are not a lot of places to provision while transiting the Inside Passage, but Petersburg has a good offering of stores and markets. Food (IGA), liqour, hardware, fishing, clothing, gifts, etc are all avaliable and within walking distance of the docks. Lovely little town.

Petersburg: South Harbor, 2012-12-01
Captain: , Seattle (21031)

This is a very fine municipal marina. The staff is extremely friendly and no request is too great. Though extremely crowed during the summer months, the tension doesn't seem to have a negaive impact on the locals who seem perpetually cheerful. South Harbor is most likely will be where a transient will be berthed, but the entire complex (South, Middle, and North Harbors) are controlled by the same entity. Whether you've just exited the Wrangell Narrows or are about to enter them, this is a nice city respite before or after the transit. This is also a good location to restock all of your supplies.
