Reviews for Soper's Hole Marina
Horrible experience with Customs and Immigration, 2017-08-18
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (30)

Soper's Hole and the harbor are a nice place to stay, but we are deliberately rating this one star because of our bad experience with Customs and Immigration, specifically, immigration. We arrived on 15 August and Immigration gave us clearance for 3 days, and said if we wanted to stay longer, such as because of weather, we could easily extend our stay. When we went back this morning (3rd day) the officer behind the desk said we could not receive an extension at West End--we had to go to Road Town to the HQ there to get an extension! Well, it would have been nice if they had told us that when they cleared us in, but no, they don't tell you that! Had we known, we would have used our car rental from yesterday to go to Road Town to get the extension. Graciously, the car rental place gave us the same car for a half day--at half fee--so that we could get back up to Road Town. Then, you'd think that just a bit of paperwork would happen quickly?? No--for literally 5-10 minutes of paperwork to clear, we had to wait over two and a quarter hours to get through the process and came out $20 poorer. So beware! Get a clearance for well beyond your stay because you cannot extend your stay in the BVI except at Road Town on Tortola. And the process is not quick, you'll need a half day to take care of it.

As good an option as any, 2017-02-18

We stayed one night in February 2017 just to make clearing in to the BVI easy and see some friends. Very good docks, nice people in the office, broken wifi (so what's new?) but could still get AT&T signal from the USVI. Not their fault but it's silly to require inbound boaters to tie up to a mooring or anchor and complete the clear-in process before proceeding to a dock if that is where one is staying your first night. Soper's gets the nod over the other marinas for a shoreside facilities, including market, Pussers, D'Best coffee and other shops/services.

Its that good, realy!, 2016-05-16

OK, the wake from the ferries can be annoying, but otherwise it has great protection from the prevailing winds, stable shore power, decent docks, much to do and see, decent food, fabulous scenery, provisions, shops, and if you sepnd $10 for 24 hrs on the World WIFI even that works!

Nice facility and office, dockhand was a problem, 2015-12-25
Captain: , Shell Knob, MO (948)

This is a nice place right in the middle of the action. Water 25 cents a gallon, electricity a flat $35 a day for 50 amp service. We had trouble with the dockhand, who wouldn't follow our instructions and got surly very quickly. The office people were very nice. Harbour market had very little when we were there.

Very nice facility, 2015-04-08
Captain: , Apollo Beach, FL (928)

Office staff very courteous on the phone and radio. Dock hands very good and friendly. Nice restaurants nearby. Easy to get a taxi/tour to see the island. Had a nice dinner at Pusser's and breakfast at D' Best Cup. Good rate for a catamaran. Showers were clean, water temp OK.

Good stop, nice place, 2013-12-04

Stayed 2 nights here. Crowded, yet still a good vibe. We rented surfboards from Island Surf for the week. A great shop if you need boards for the fantastic surf in the BVI's.

A very pleasant stop, 2013-05-16
Captain: , Sarasota, Florida (82)

We decided to go into Sopers Hole, it being the closest marina to us at the time, because of an electrical problem with our battery charger/inverter the staff were great and contrary to an earlier comment the office staff were very helpful with making local phone calls for us etc. The dock staff were outstanding. You could make water and swim in the water here, very clean and clear. The only 'difficult' part of our experience was with customs and immigration who were surly and officious. We enjoyed D Best Cup just behind Pussers for breakfast. At $1.25 per ft the marina was fair value for these parts. All in all this was a very easy and relaxing stop.

A good marina gone bad, 2013-03-19
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (12)

A marina that shows signs of bad management. Fuel is not often available as they only buy a small amount at a time. WIFI is managed by a Calf. company and very expensive if you are on a mooring ($20/day) and also does not work. No refund in office. Office staff has a definate bad atitude. Dock hands are very helpful and polite. Showers and Laundary often does not work.

Only for groceries, 2013-01-09
Captain: , Kingston (269)

The ladies in the marina office were largely rude and unhelpful. The area is well serviced but we couldn't get out of here fast enough. I'd echo the description of the 'marina' as being disney-like. This is not my thing, but obviously many people love it.

There is a choice of places to eat, and the location is good if you need to grab any provisions. Next time I'd just pop in for an hour or so, not overnight.

A Village-style marina, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Pilots Point (466)

This port feels almost like a planned marina-community. Marina and docks are bordered by condos and shopping areas. Instant access to all sorts of supplies, provisioning, and entertainment. I liked the place but it feels very "staged". During parts of a trip to the BVIs though, this might be just what's needed.

sweet spot, 2012-04-13

we anchored out and did the dink in thing.
great dockside bar.
love the place.

Good store for provisioning, 2011-01-28
Captain: , New York, NY (470)

We picked up a mooring ball. The harbor is nicely protected, but a bit crowded (by BVI standards) with all the moorings. The cute little area with the pastel buidlings offers typical tourist shops, with lots of people wearing Princess Cruise logo-wear shopping. I thought this would be a charming "town", but it really was a Disney-ish little collection of t-short shops. However, there is an excellent grocery store for provisioning, so it is worth it to duck into if just for that. We are dinner at a restaurant just west of the ferry dock (on the north shore of the harbor.) They have a dinghy dock, and the meal and atmosphere was quite nice and a bit more authentic than Pusser's.

Good location, 2010-11-18

At Soper's Hole there is the marina, and further to the West, a boatyard which is not marked on Active Captain.

The marina is OK with fuel, water, and power. However the whole site is very much designed to attract the Cruise Ship passengers with its boutique shops and the Pussers restaurant. So when a ship arrives, expect it to get busy. Having said that its a nice spot. Most visitors pick up a mooring buoy and use the free dinghy dock. Anchoring in Sopers Hole is not really an option as it is deep and full of moorings.

The boatyard is further West in Sopers Hole, nar the entrance on the same side as the marina. They are very helpful and have haul-out and repair facilities. They have a web site at

Overall Sopers Hole is a good spot, sheltered but with a refreshing breeze that keeps the bugs away.

It's Ok, 2007-03-14
Captain: , Huntington, NY (2311)

2002 last visit - Only ok. The shops are very limited, the two resturants are serving fare that isn't special, in fact looks like the same menu as Marina Cay, but does not taste as good.

A little crowded and a bit hairy manuvering in this tightly packed marina. If your approaching from the North, you start to wonder if the GPS is dead wrong ... as it looks like your heading directly into the shore until you can see the turn to the left.

Last time I was there you needed to buy tokens to the showers, and if you had any left over, they wouldn't buy them back from you.
