Reviews for Smith Boys Marine
Launch for Erie Canal, 2017-07-05
Captain: , Pittsburgh (146)

We used Smith Boys to launch our Rosborough for a canal trip to Syracuse. From Wendy in the office to Aaron on the docks, they were very accomadating and helpful. Parked truck and trailer in secure lot and will have it available to us on a will call basis. Friendly folks in the marina where we used a transient slip for 1 night. Snack shop had a great brisket sandwich. Would have earned 5 stars, but the lauch ramp was very steep and narrow, marginal for launch, but would not try to pull from that ramp.

I have been boating for most of my life (over 50 now) and I just purchased a boat from Smith Boys and from the first day I went to look at the boat, to a revisit to have a mechanic look at, to my Sea Trial after buying the boat, the Sales, Service, and all the Smith Boys people I have dealt with have made this buy a total enjoyment. They can not do enough for you and are open and honest about everything. They have been in business for many years, are family owned, and they understand what a customer is. I would recommend Smith Boys Marine Sales to everyone. The best dealership I have ever worked with.

Not for big Trawlers, 2014-07-24
Captain: , Key Largo (5457)

Good news, not expensive,,

has current, rolly in wind,
WiFi did not work
No courtesy car,
more of a small boat marina

Good news,
Laundry was free (only one washer and dryer_)
good staff
good showers and heads.

Guess they have too much business..., 2013-08-08
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

We had our arch taken down in New Baltimore to allow us to do the full length of the Erie Canal. As we approached our final week on the canal we began to look for a place to have our arch raised again. A small job I know but a good experience can always lead to more business, can't it?

I called and was told I needed to speak to the Service Manager who was unavailable. I left a message. He called later that day but I missed the call. I called the next morning and the woman put me on hold and returned with a message from the manager to just come in. I said I had questions before I decided to use them so I needed to speak to him. From the moment the Service Manager came on the phone he made me feel like a bother rather than a potential customer. When I asked the very important question for a 6 foot draft vessel about depth at the facility and the two possible approaches he said he didn't know the depths and seemed to just want me off the phone. I pressed and he told me someone who was more familiar would called me back later that day or the next. That was 3 days ago.

A Service Manager not knowing something as important as depth coupled with the feeling that he wasn't really interested in my business caused me to search for an alternative in Buffalo. I guess they have too much business to bother with a simple stepping of an arch...

Clean large facility - nice folks, 2012-04-02
Captain: , Warwick, RI (432)

Mast stepping for my ketch was estimated 350 base price + $109 per man hour. Slips were available at pro-rated seasonal rate for a month <$300 rather than transient rate >600 (other places). I would definitely keep my boat here. No fuel.

Erie Canal sailboat decommissioning, 2011-01-03
Captain: , Utica, Ohio (245)

We stayed here for a few days preparing to transit the Canal. Nice, clean facility with a small but nicely equipped marine store. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a very long transient dock which is easy to get on and off. They helped me drop the mast of my 37' sailboat and secure it in braces for the trip.
Only complaint is that they have no fuel dock. If you're headed into the canal, you need to have already topped off the fuel elsewhere because Wardell (the other decommissioning option at Tonawanda) won't sell you fuel if you use Smith Boys to pull the stick.

Good facility, 2009-08-11
Captain: , Stuart FL Middletown RI (240)

Smith Boys caters mostly to long-term slip holders, but we found them to be welcoming and helpful as a transient. Their mechanics are first-rate and sorted out a couple of small issues on our boat competently. They have a small cottage at one end of the marina with good restroom/shower/laundry facilties. I thought the docks were ready for an upgrade -- they are not floating docks and there were a few rough edges -- but we were comfortable. There is a great little restaurant on the southern tip of the island -- about a 10-12 minute walk. Smith Boys also has a well-equipped ship's store. Be prepared to see plenty of Sea Rays -- Smith Boys are long-time Sea Ray dealers and the marina is home to a huge assortment of newer and older Sea Rays.

Large marina with most services, 2007-07-24
Captain: , Kiawah Island, SC (152)

For boaters (Especially Sea Ray)this is a good stop for most repairs and service. There is no fuel and they really cater to their seasonal boaters. Facilities are in good condition and be aware that there is a current always running because of it's proximity to the Niagara River(Yes, Niagara Falls is just downstream.)
