Reviews for Skipjack Cove Yachting Resort
Nice Marina Nice Location, 2016-10-26
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (340)

Stayed one night on a fixed dock because of our catamaran with a 24 ft beam. Not a big fan on fixed docks but they were well protected with bumpers. Dock hand very helpful. We ate at their restaurant. Good food with large portions. Wait staff very friendly. Prices were average. Would stay here again. Off season rate of $1 per foot.

The value can't be beat, 2016-08-26
Captain: , Middle River (50)

We had a wonderful stay this weekend. The view from the pool is one of the best on the bay. The facilitities are nice and the grounds are wonderful. The marina held a Hawaiian Luau--what a treat! The transist slip price is superb and it drops 50 cents/foot if you are with a group. The river trip to the marina is beautiful. We will be back soon.

Perfect destination for my first cruise up the Sassafras, 2016-08-08
Captain: , Worton Creek, MD (56)

I was a transient here for a night. During the planning of my weekend cruise I selected this marina based upon the other positive reviews on Active Captain. As a previous reviewer had mentioned, I too was a bit perplexed by the number of empty slips in this very reasonably priced, and appealing well-kept marina. The fuel dock and office are at the river%u2019s northern bank, and the sign designating the marina as you approach is large and clear, which is good because this area is crowded with marinas. I found the fairways to be ample size for easy maneuvering and backing into the slip. The dockhand was helpful and answered many of my %u201Cfirst-time %u2018away-from -home-port%u2019 stay%u201D questions. Once you are tied up after a long motor up the Sassafras, the hilltop pool is not to be missed. Spectacular view of the Sassafras, many tables with umbrellas, lounge chairs, and the bathhouse is adjacent to the pool. The bathhouse provides private rooms with toilet, sink and stall showers in each. Very clean, very nice and very air-conditioned. There is a large picnic area with grills (since I believe they don%u2019t allow grilling on the boats near the docks). There is on site restaurant, but we didn%u2019t dine there. The setting is nicely landscaped and shows their efforts to create the %u201Cresort%u201D setting they advertise. The vibe while we were there was notably laid-back. (it was a Thursday in August).
The area in general seems welcoming to anchoring and your dinghy to shore, since I saw many sailboats anchored out.
If there was anything to gripe about, it would be the %u201Cunwalkability%u201D of the area in general %u2013 not a fault of the marina. We couldn%u2019t easily meander our way from this marina to a restaurant at a nearby marina via the water%u2019s edge without some acrobatics. You could walk on the street, but then you lost the view of the water. A fee-for-service water taxi would have been nice.
If I was planning a season where I intended to really explore the Sassafras on my weekend cruises, this would be at the top of my short-list as a spot to get a seasonal slip. I%u2019d say that its location in relation to the bay is distant so if you are looking for a spot that provides quick access to the upper bay, this isn%u2019t it. The scenic cruise up the Sassafras makes the excursion worthwhile and I would encourage it at least once.

Nice Marina .. some issues, 2016-06-20
Captain: , Macatawa Michigan (1144)

We stayed here on Father's Day 2016 so needless to say the river traffic was dense. We were placed on the outside face dock, pursuant to our request, we are a single screw 50 trawler with windage. We were very comfortable there because it was the weekend and a downstream 6mph zone for the anchorage and no wake for the marina was respected. Pilings are double size so locals throw the loop end and tie the bitter end to the boat cleat. The very nice dock hands were helpful but did not know if there was (1) current (Navionic's current indicator near Marina) (2) tide -- it's about 2 feet according to notes on AC and it did appear to be ~1.5 to 2.0 or so (3) whether the water at the dock was well water or city water and (4) whether the shuttle was still operational that takes you over to Georgetown. Maybe not many visitors make the 7 or so mile trip up the river and many of the boats there were high speed but it's still good practice to train and inform dock hands. Lunch was good at restaurant which is quite plain inside, I guess I was expecting a resort setting. Fuel dock is not operational and Marina office spartan. Pump out worked well and runs much of the length of the face dock. All staff were very pleasant. The trip up the Sassafras River was pretty.

Fantastic Marina, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (451)

This is an outstanding Marina in all respects. The dock hands are skillful and would happily do anything for you. Rich, the General Manager, is particularly helpful and he has insured that this Marina runs beautifully. There are both high and low speed fuel pumps, and the water is free, and from a Marina hose that is used just for clean drinking water. The laundry consists of four washers and four dryers in a clean room. The showers are truly beautiful in private rooms for ultimate privacy; each room has a clean shower stall, a sink, a toilet, and plenty of space. The Signals restaurant and bar serves great food and drink, with friendly and efficient service. The chef is very talented and the menu is huge, with portions to match. In my thirty years of sailing the East Coast of the United States, I have never found a better Marina than this one! Georgetown is a great little place, but we always come here because of this fantastic Marina.

Charging for water, 2014-09-14
Captain: , Cape May, NJ (20)

Spent a weekend in a transient slip at Skipjack. Very nice facilities. The pool has an incredible view of the Sassafras River. The restaurant, Signals, also has a great view although the food is a little over priced. Dockhands are sparse but pleasant and helpful. Not really sure why there are so many empty slips at this marina. Upon departing, we stopped at the fuel dock. We asked for a hose to fill a small container and we were informed there is a $5 charge for water. When questioned, the dockhand explained that the fee is normally $10, but since we were asking for such a small amount, it would only be $5. He then handed us the only hose available, the one that is used to rinse the holding tank!

SORT OF AVERAGE, 2014-09-10
Captain: , Bodkin Creek Md. (227)

I don't have any negative things to say about the Marina other than it's about average for it's size. Poo was very nice and clean and they gave our BYC Yacht club the use of one of their picnic shelters for our party. We arrived on thee Friday before Labor Day and departed on Monday. Staff was helpful when needed. I would stay there again.

Not too bad, 2013-07-09
Captain: , Jacksonville, Florida (30)

Stayed over 4th of July weekend. Fairly decent place but some issues. Had some power issues with the power peds, and burned up my 30 amp cord. Electrician did come out but said everything was good??? Signals restaurant on site was very nice with good food. Drink prices a little steep. Marina office was severely lacking in goods and boat items for sale, but there is a shuttle that will take you to Georgetown Marina a little further up the river that has a very well stocked chandlery. Gas and Diesel is higher priced than most of the bay so I wouldn't fuel there. All in all decent and I would probably stay again if I needed to but more than likely I would stay at Georgrtown Marina.

Relaxing Stay at a Nice Facility, 2013-06-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

We stayed here for two nights in mid June. We arrived in a drenching rain and the two dock hands disregarded the uncomfortable conditions and got us pumped out and tied up in a slip. The docks are easy to get in and out of and the fairways are adequate. We wish that the docks had been lighted at night, as the pedestal lights did not seem to be working. We used the spotlight on the boat to light up the dock near our boat for accessing at night. There is a good area for dog walking, but it is a long way from the outer most dock. The facilities are first class, especially the laundry. We stayed during mid week and the restaurant was not open, but the pool and club house are in a beautiful setting on top of a hill. We found that it was a very long walk from the marina to the very small town of Georgetown, and we did not find many services located here. The nearest grocery appeared to be 2 or 3 miles away in Galena. We enjoyed our stay at this out of the way marina on the Sassafras!

Friendly staff!, 2013-03-30

Have had lunch here and bought gas. The staff has been consistently very friendly. Great selection of boats to gawk at. Gave me a case of 2 foot disease.

Friendly & Accommodating, 2012-11-03
Captain: , Browns Cove, MD (402)

We booked 4 boats for 1 night over Labor Day and when the weather turned lousy, the marina juggled a few boats and allowed us to stay for 3! Great pool overlooking the river. Restaurant is up on a hill with nice view. I'd say the food was adequate, but the setting and staff make up for a lot. Definitely will be back.

Great Marina, 2012-10-21
Captain: , Fitchburg, MA (20)

My brother in law docks his boat here and I have visited this marina and it is awesome.

Not worth the trip, 2012-09-11
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (348)

After a long trip up the Sassafras all you find is a nice Marina in the middle of nowhere. The pool is nice but their is NOTHING else here.

Stoped for Gas and had dinner too., 2012-07-25
Captain: , Easton, Pa (40)

We stoped at the fuel dock and asked about a good resturant nearby. They said...."How about ours?" We tied up down from the fuel dock and walked up teh hill to eat. I had the best soft-shell crabs of my life!! Will be going back!

A great place to spend the weekend, 2012-06-18

Best Marina on the Sassafrass, 2012-06-02

Very nice and clean with friendly staff. Try the crabcakes, they are great. The rest of the menu not so much.

Will return, 2011-10-03

Restaurant Advice, 2011-09-05
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (71)

Avoid anything likely to have been prepared in an oven. It seemed like it was all precooked and the run thru a moocrowave when ordered. The result: A lot of the choices of our party were overcooked, dry and tasteless. Best bet: a burger or a steak.

fuel dock/, 2011-04-13
Captain: , Galena MD (171)

These guys are great. They treat our little 22ft sailboat like the big guys and wait on us with the same curtesy for our $10 purchase as if we were buying 200 gallons for fuel. Also really like the restaurant. The view is spectacular up the river, the food if always very good and more reasonable than some of the other restaurants in this harbour. Also usually not crowded and no wait. I believe the best deck for watching the river in the area.

Nice Marina, 2009-07-14

We keep GOTTAGO there now. Marina and office staff are courteous and friendly.

Nice, but fuel is way too high, 2008-08-29
Captain: , Bear, DE (197)

The marina is nice in almost every way. I would not recommend have the yard do anything but paint the bottom. Fuel was $1 more per gallon during the summer 2008 than other places on the north end of the Chesapeake.

Nicest, cleanest marina on the Sassafras, 2008-03-23
Captain: , Newark, DE (259)

We keep our boat here. The marina is very clean and well cared for.

SkipJack, 2007-02-04
Captain: , Sasafras River, Cheasapeake Bay (206)

We keep our boat here. The facility is very nice. The heads are great. The pool is great and the parking lots are paved. The fuel is a little expensive and the service is mediocare. I would not use there service unless you really need to, at least for an outdrive. They have capability of hauling large boats.
We really like the location, the facilities and the folks.
