Reviews for Shipyard Marina
Pier 13 Hoboken, 2016-10-03
Captain: , New York (97)

The marina could not be located in a better spot. With the food trucks and the beer garden right on the pier, this is definitely a convenient stop. If you want to visit New York, the ferry is just one block/pier away.

The new docks put oin this year are a enormous improvement from years past. New cement docks, water, and electric hookups.

The marina is exposed to the river so you do get some of those ferry wakes. They do calm down at night and overnight. Weekends are calmer than weekedays. Other than that, this is a great location and would come back again.

Great view, Great Location, Good Stay., 2012-09-19

As a previous reviewer mentioned the marina is a bit rocky, however I do not beleive the marina is dangerous as was potrayed in a previous post. Maintenance could be a better but it is sufficent for the time being. Bathrooms are shared with bar attendees ......really only an issue on weekends. The bottomline is that if you are looking for a good stay, can handle some rocking at reasonable price this is a good marina to stay at.

Been going downhill..., 2012-08-27

(Full disclosure - I've been a seasonal slip-holder here in 2011 and 2012, though I will be hard-pressed to return unless improvements are made.)

As the first reviewer stated, the location is great. Lots to do in Hoboken, with plenty of nearby food and shopping. This summer, they started a nice open air bar on the pier (Pier13) and have some good food trucks parked right on the pier. The bathrooms are generally clean, though you are sharing them with the patrons of the bar, so if you're planning on using the showers, especially in the evening, be aware.

As for the marina itself, it's being neglected. There's no breakwater, so you're completely exposed to all the wake from the river traffic, including the Waterway Ferrys that tear in and out of the ferry terminal on next pier over. Because of this, it's relatively rough, even during calm conditions (watch the webcams on thier website), and flotsam from the river tends to float in and get trapped in the marina. The 2 docks closest to the river are practically unusable because they've taken the brunt of the incoming wakes. The remaining docks are in disrepair, and there are old, broken parts that are just laying around, so you should watch for broken planks and loose screws while walking the docks (especially if there are children). In the slips, there are some exposed metal brackets, and the rub rail on the docks is very thin, so make sure you have extra lines and fenders. The finger piers are also very narrow, which wouldn't be a problem if it was calm, but it's difficult to maintain footing when a wake comes in, which can make it difficult to access your boat from the dock for cleaning, maintenance, or even boarding. Other than water, power, and the restrooms, there are no services (fuel, pumpout, etc...), and don't expect anyone in the marina to keep a close eye on your boat if you're not there. The security the other reviewer mentioned is also not quite as secure as one might think, with it being relatively easy to gain access to the docks through the 'locked' gates.

Despite the no liveaboard policy, there are a couple of boats with people living on them. One has been there for years.

This marina can have a lot going for it if they can put more focus on keeping thier tenant's boats (as well as thier own equipment) better protected.

Good, but..., 2011-05-02

100% Agree with previous reviewer, but... Ferry wakes bounce you around alot. Extremely tight if you are 50'+ unless you get a T-head - I was promised one but it was occupied when I arrived. Difficult to contact them during April/Early May to make arrangements and for arrival assistance - in my case absolutely required due to size/location. Otherwise helpful people.
